Warrant out for me

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 18:51

I've done something stupid and failed to show up at Jury duty which I know is so wrong though have had different things to deal with recently which I know is no excuse.

Now it appears a warrant has been issued for my arrest. I have had a phone call to say I have to go to the police station and could be locked up to appear in court.

Anyone know whats likely to happen to me. Proper bricking it.

Scary though self inflicted.

Clype is a brilliant word! Used here in W. Scotland, too. The other day DD2 called her cousin a 'clatty wee midden'. I loves it.

yousignup · 17/01/2018 20:40

@Nickynacky I'm not worried for you, just horrified at the spite. I am a non UK judge, and never give legal advice on MN. Maybe I will be reported to the Hague. Or Strasbourg. Or Brussels. Or the UN.

Nicknacky · 17/01/2018 20:40

expat that's a belter of an insult. I love a good "boot" too

Redglitter · 17/01/2018 20:41

😂😂😂 Clatty wee midden is brilliant isn't it

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 17/01/2018 20:42

@Paperwhites must be away composing a clyping letter to the Daily Mail 😉 can't wait to hear who (s)he has reported @Nicknacky to.....

Hoppinggreen · 17/01/2018 20:42

Hope OP is ok
No idea why everyone is bickering it sounds to me like the thread really helped her
Don’t know if it’s different in Scotland but here in England they only issue a warrant if you reply to the original summons for jury duty and THEN don’t turn up.
If the (non registered post) summons never arrives and you don’t reply - because how could you? There is NO come back
Just thought it was worth mentioning

expatinscotland · 17/01/2018 20:44

'The OP is/was ill. Mitigating circumstances.'

And failed to inform the court of this. All the police see is a warrant, which they are bound to serve.

Let's all put our imagination capes on, as Paperwhites has done so well here, and imagine how justice would work if, upon realising there is a warrant out for oneself, everyone simply shouted, 'But I was ill! There were mitigating circumstances!' and such people could then avoid being lifted (nicked for all your in England).

I love DD2's Scottisms. She watched Obsessive Compulsive Cleaners with me once. After one man came on she made a gurny face. 'So, he's a hoarder, a smoker AND a crim. Aye, he's a right minger.'

InBlackwaterWoods · 17/01/2018 20:48

Aye, its 'clype' with me too! Dying to know who paperwhites reported nicknacky to....the internet police??
Anyway, OP, I hope you're ok.

inblack I'm assuming it is to the real police but they won't be in the slightest bit interested if she told them what this is actually about.

expatinscotland · 17/01/2018 20:49

DH uses clarty, but he's from . . . Edinburgh Shock

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 17/01/2018 20:49

Clarty is my favourite Scottish world ever. "Shut it, ya clarty wee boot". 😃

Redglitter · 17/01/2018 20:50

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 17/01/2018 20:51

Wonder if @Paperwhites phoned 101 or 999 @Nicknacky? The recording of that call would be amusing.

Our downstairs neighbour keeps getting lifted. Because he's a smackheid. I'm so glad he can't just declare 'I'm ill! That's why I didn't go to court!' or whatever when there's yet another warrant out. It's so peaceful when he's away. I see the G4S van go by and wave at him.

MagentaRocks · 17/01/2018 20:52

The before midnight thing is good advice. If you are booked into custody before midnight it counts as a day. The day you are then taken to court counts as a day. If you are likely to be sentenced to a very short term in prison those days make a difference. So given a weeks custodial sentence, halve it for good behaviour. You have already served most of your sentence. A lot of our local regulars would hand themselves in just before midnight for this reason.

Nicknacky · 17/01/2018 20:52

"Muuuuummmmmm I need to grass on Nicknacky!!!!"

expatinscotland · 17/01/2018 20:53

'expat She sounds hilarious 😊'

She is. She's sat here next to me eating crisps and watching GP's Behind Closed Doors. I love her comments. Incidentally, she wants to go into the Forces and then join the police.

MagentaRocks · 17/01/2018 20:53

Oh and I know the thread has moved on but a few people had mentioned the before midnight thing.

Ginger1982 · 17/01/2018 20:54

That's actually not correct in Scotland Magenta. Your custodial sentence starts from the day you're in court. So if lifted on a Friday, it doesn't kick in until the Monday you appear.
