Warrant out for me

LauraLesleyLogan · 16/01/2018 18:51

I've done something stupid and failed to show up at Jury duty which I know is so wrong though have had different things to deal with recently which I know is no excuse.

Now it appears a warrant has been issued for my arrest. I have had a phone call to say I have to go to the police station and could be locked up to appear in court.

Anyone know whats likely to happen to me. Proper bricking it.

Scary though self inflicted.

@Paperwhites who on earth did you report @Nicknacky to? Ffs....

tralaaa · 17/01/2018 20:22

Getting worried now hope your ok

Nicknacky · 17/01/2018 20:22

She hasn't reported me at all!

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 17/01/2018 20:23

It's time to teach @Paperwhites the good old Scottish word 'clipe' 😃

Nicknacky · 17/01/2018 20:24

Well, to be fair can she be a clipe when there is nothing to clipe about?

Is that how you spell "clipe"? I've always wondered.

user187656748 · 17/01/2018 20:24

paperwhites that is crazy. Goodness me, all the talk about wasting police resources and you've now created the biggest waste. Your actions are just coming across as vindictive. Nicky was trying to be helpful. I am truly shocked that you've done that (although quite how you know who he/she is I really don't know.

I was coming on to address all of the comments about how the OP shouldn't have to go through this process. I disagree. A trial will no doubt have been postponed because the OP didn't bother to turn up. The impact of that will be tens of thousands of pounds wasted. And one of the reasons a warrant was issued was that the OP has a track record of not showing up in court!

expatinscotland · 17/01/2018 20:25

FFS @ Paperwhites-Get-It-Logged Brigade. Who are 'the relevant authorities'? Elvis died over 40 years ago. The OP would have been advised of this when presenting herself at the police station, so not sure anyone would give a fuck that some random on the internet didn't mention there's free legal advise available Hmm. Some people really need a life!

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 17/01/2018 20:26

@Nicknacky it might be 'clype'. Don't think I've ever seen it written down before, now I come to think about it.

Paperwhites · 17/01/2018 20:26

The OP is/was ill. Mitigating circumstances.

Serving police officers should not be on mumsnet encouraging very distressed and vulnerable people to get themselves down to the nick asap and not to forget to dress appropriately.

nickynacky even pronounced the poor OP's guilt.

Please do check.

Tollygunge · 17/01/2018 20:26

Haven’t read the whole thread but anyone claiming that going after the op is a waste of resources is missing the point that a trial had been delayed as one of the jury couldn’t be arsed to show. That really is a waste of resources

CharizMa · 17/01/2018 20:27

OP hope you're ok.

Nicknacky · 17/01/2018 20:27

This is getting hilarious. How did I pronounce her guilt?

wendywhite · 17/01/2018 20:28

I can’t believe all the grief about Nickynack in amongst all her fabulous advice not mentioning free legal help..
It’s pretty irrelevant as why would OP need legal advice when she has said herself she didn’t go to jury duty therefore a warrant was issued for her & she will be appearing in court.
It’s pretty black & white no.

Hope it went okay for you & it’s all done & dusted by now.

wendywhite · 17/01/2018 20:29

Clype here in NE Scotland ! :)

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 17/01/2018 20:29

@Paperwhites you're making yourself look a bit silly now. Pray tell us who you have reported @Nicknacky to? Your mum?

QueenoftheSilverDollar12 · 17/01/2018 20:30

Thanks @wendywhite! I'll remember that for future reference 😃

yousignup · 17/01/2018 20:31

@Paperwhites This is why I am so careful and cagey about what I post on MN. Your spitefulness is astounding.

Redglitter · 17/01/2018 20:32

I'm dying to hear who Nick has been reported to

The OP had already decided before posting to do the sensible thing and face the music. At no time has she tried to excuse her failure to attend.

Nicknacky · 17/01/2018 20:34

yousign I'm not worried! There is 10,000 officers in police Scotland and she only knows what she has read here and as we all know, many people change personal details......

user187656748 · 17/01/2018 20:35

Paperwhites I am all for ensuring that people know their legal rights (I'm a lawyer) but your reasoning is bonkers.

slightly worried I might now get reported to the law society

expatinscotland · 17/01/2018 20:35

'Serving police officers should not be on mumsnet encouraging very distressed and vulnerable people to get themselves down to the nick asap and not to forget to dress appropriately.'

Maybe she's not. Maybe she's not even a 'she'. Maybe she's a hairy-handed trucker. Or Elvis. Or JFK. Lord Lucan. Princess Di.

The alternative to the OP's not handing herself in would be . . . the police coming to her house to arrest her. Imagine!

Seriously, get a grip, Paperwhites.

Bubblysqueak · 17/01/2018 20:36

Hope you managed to get some sleep and today hasn't been too traumatic for you. Flowers

WaitrosePigeon · 17/01/2018 20:36

Thinking of you.

Redglitter · 17/01/2018 20:38

So a serving police officer who knows Scottish legal processes shouldn't be posting accurate advice to someone facing a rather unpleasant night in the cells but unqualified people who only have a knowledge of English procedures or no procedures should?

Yeah that makes sense

myrtleWilson · 17/01/2018 20:39

"I've already reported you" [big grin] @paperwhites - you're making yourself look over invested and silly. *Nickynacky said way up thread that a) the custody staff have welfare at heart of their approach and that b) it was an apprehension warrant so the OP had to present herself - getting legal advice on how to approach hearing was secondary to advising the OP on how to attend the police station.

The Op herself says "I definitely should have went [to jury service] so won't be making any excuse" and wasn't actually asking for advice on any stance to take to mitigate her non attendance - indeed she further said she wouldn't be lying under oath in response to another poster.

But am still intrigued as to where you've reported NickNacky to?!
