Warrant out for me

I've done something stupid and failed to show up at Jury duty which I know is so wrong though have had different things to deal with recently which I know is no excuse.

Now it appears a warrant has been issued for my arrest. I have had a phone call to say I have to go to the police station and could be locked up to appear in court.

Anyone know whats likely to happen to me. Proper bricking it.

Scary though self inflicted.

shakeyourcaboose · 17/01/2018 20:56

My post to the clype!

expatinscotland · 17/01/2018 20:59

'That's actually not correct in Scotland Magenta. Your custodial sentence starts from the day you're in court. So if lifted on a Friday, it doesn't kick in until the Monday you appear.'

And we love this! Because it means if Downstair Divy is lifted on Friday, he's away all weekend! Joy.

expatinscotland · 17/01/2018 21:00

'Yeh my bosses Mrs from further down Scotland says “Clarty or Clorty” I would say Clatty!'

But do you say 'mockit' or 'muckit'?

Ginger1982 · 17/01/2018 21:00

Expat 😂😂😂

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 17/01/2018 21:00

Oh dear. Hope you’re OK, OP!

FairfaxAikman · 17/01/2018 21:00

@Ginger1982 sheriffs can opt to backdate sentences though, if the accused has been remanded pending sentence.
(Not saying this applies in the OPs case, just talking generally for the benefit of the Internet Police aka paperwhites)

Redglitter · 17/01/2018 21:01

Definitely mockit 😊

Please make a thread purely about your dd expat. I have family in Scotland (live in the SE) and am seriously thinking about getting a job up there and moving me and my 2yo DD. So she would grow up properly Scottish. And hopefully, exactly like your DD Grin

We once lived across the road and down a bit from a police station in Leith. There was also a very dodgy pub farther down the road, especially at weekends. DH wouldn't finish work till 11 so was always up when things kicked off. 'It was two lassies paggering each other! They were pure mental! Female copper had to take one down, 'Ye.will.calm.doon.now!'

Free entertainment.

Ginger1982 · 17/01/2018 21:04

Fairfax, they cannot backdate it to a day before they appear in court. If, for example a person plead guilty on January 1st, sentence is deferred to February 1st and they get 6 months, the 6 months can be backdated to January 1st. That's as far back as it goes. I'm a criminal lawyer.

Ginger1982 · 17/01/2018 21:05

If they are remanded in custody that is.

Nicknacky · 17/01/2018 21:06

francis Grin I would love to hear that!

Ginger1982 · 17/01/2018 21:07

I didn't mean that to sound cheeky by the way! 🙂

sirlee66 · 17/01/2018 21:07

What!!! You can go to jail if you don't show up to jury duty!?!? Whhattttt!!! So in reality, no going to jury duty could be worse than the punishment given actual criminal on trial..!?! What if you were sick that day!?? This is ridiculous!

Sorry you're going through this OP!!

sirlee66 Being sick would be fine, you would probably have to provide evidence of that. It's the radio silence that's the issue.

Ginger did say ealier in the thread she had never heard of it, neither have I but there is probably loads of things I haven't heard of!

wendywhite · 17/01/2018 21:09

Lol

Muckit if someTHING is dirty,
It’s muckit.

Mochit if someONE is dirty.

She’s a right moch/ right mochit that een.

user187656748 · 17/01/2018 21:09

It isn't ridiculous. Simply failing to show up means everyone is sitting around waiting for the OP to turn up and then eventually the trial has to be postponed. Costs tens of thousands of pounds.

SaltySeaBird · 17/01/2018 21:10

My DM was called for jury service and threw the letter in the bin saying she didn’t want to do it. I explained it wasn’t voluntary. She never heard any more about it.

Nicknacky · 17/01/2018 21:10

Interesting that paperwhite has never came back on............
