Antisemitism

I read the posts on here with interest and often the subject of anti semitism comes up. I was brought up in a town in the South East. My mum gave me a book about Anne Frank when I was around 8 and I can remember asking ' what is a Jew?' as I had never met one. When I was about 14 a girl from northern Israel came to my school and I was asked to befriend her and help her settle in. I can remember being fascinated about her life in a Kibbutz and she used to show me
Hebrew writing. I don't recall ever hearing anything anti semitic about her or her brother as the only two Jewish kids - to my knowledge in the school. I also remember in my twenties encountering a group of lads from North London - white something and them having an absolute hatred for Jewish people. I can remember feeling utterly shocked as I'd never heard anti Jewish speak prior to this. Reading some of the recent posts on here it has made me wonder wherever there are pockets in the Uk with Jewish communities that experience antisemitism where the rest of the UK it does not occur as people simply have never met a Jewish person just their life- to their knowledge.Where I live I have only met 4 Jewish people in the Uk in my life and I am 47. The most Jewish people I have met were in Israel when I visited in 2000.

@EllaDisenchanted awful. A friend of mine is a filia regular, friend of Nicole's & staunch ally. She said the antisemitism was awful this year.

Horrible :/ The more I am reading, the worse it gets.

On the other side, Heidi Bachram posted about the talk they did re the silence of feminists post october 7th, and the big turnout they got. https://x.com/nicolelampert/status/1977146340736905424

Amazingly powerful event this evening with @bindelj @HWistrich @HeidiBachram @FreyaVanadiss @lubafein and others in Brighton discussing the silence of the feminists post Oct 7 and how the concept of ‘believe her’ was turned on its head. We were hoping...

Not strictly antisemitism related, but one of the Ramallah 'red hand' lynchers is being released 😖

I think the red hand pins worn proudly by 'artists' was one of the things that most disgusted me. A Palestinian flag I get, but the red hand?! Two seconds of googling would have brought up the Ramallah lynching.

This was new to me, but the antisemitic links to the symbol predates the Ramallah lynching. The red hand was painted on Jewish houses in the Farhud:
"The violence continued through the night. A red hand sign, or hamsa, had been painted on Jewish homes, to mark them out. Families had to defend themselves by whatever means they could."

It was brilliant that there was such a strong turnout.

Thank you. I didn't know the farhud connection.

Thank you. I didn't know the farhud connection.

Nor did I.
I always wonder, when 'artists' express political views, why their opinions should hold so much weight. As the red hand pin issue showed, their views are often either ill-informed at best, or extreme at worst.

I think people think they have some sor of neutrality because they are not overtly 'political', so that gives them some sort of weight. Its a completely nonsense idea, I don't know why anyone thinks it!

Kellie-Jay Keen put out a livestream expressing her disgust with Filia in very strong and heart-felt terms.

She’s an amazing and utterly fearless woman imho.

Worth a watch.

https://swedenherald.com/article/malmo-jewish-film-festival-canceled-due-to-cinema-security-concerns

Two examples of antisemitism here -

The first is cinemas either being opposed to hosting a Jewish film festival because the owners are antisemitic, or because they think it's unsafe to do so because there are so many violent antisemites in Malmö. Seeing what happened at Eurovision, I suspect it's a nice little combination of the two.

The second is the last question to the politician. Why ask if it would be equally outrageous if it had been a Palestinian event that was cancelled?! Honestly, it's so subtle most wouldn't even notice it. It's a good example of how normalised antisemitism is.

(To be clear, I consider it completely antisemitic to constantly feel the need to mention Palestinians in the same sentence as Jewish people. We are not somehow opposites. Mentioning Palestinians every time something Jewish is mentioned is just an attempt at conflating Jewish people with Israel which is antisemitic)

Edited

I don’t really understand what the purpose of force taking Palestinian in here is? I don’t really understand who is asking the question and why?

Ha, it was one of the journalists who asked the politician if she'd be equally outraged if it were Palestinians affected. It's so ridiculous. I really don't think most people would even have noticed that it's antisemitic in nature for them to have asked it. It's just so normalised now.

Dov Forman nails it

"The Prime Minister keeps repeating that he’ll “do whatever it takes” to protect the Jewish community. But since two innocent Jews were murdered in cold blood on our streets, he hasn’t actually done anything - other than announce more money for
@CST_UK
. That might sound reassuring, but it’s really an admission of failure: we can’t stop the people who want to kill you, and we’re not politically strong enough to try - so here’s some money to build higher fences and thicker doors before the next Islamist attack by those we’ve allowed to call for an intifada against you for two years. In fact, it’s only getting worse. Today, Jewish and Israeli football fans have been banned from travelling to Birmingham - because the police say they can’t guarantee their safety. And we have a Birmingham MP openly celebrating that fact. Our country has lost control of its streets to the mob. And the police are now openly saying: “If you are Jewish, we can’t protect you.” This is the acid test for the Government. Are Jews going to be protected on the streets of Britain - or are they not? No more platitudes. No more empty words in tweets. It’s time for Keir Starmer to act - before more Jewish blood is spilled on our streets."https://x.com/DovForman/status/1978904881139474916

Katie Hopkins talking about the Aston Villa football game and she seamed disgusted about the situation. Just when I think she could be an ally I see this comment:

Yes I’ve never been a fan of hers, quite the opposite. She’s definitely positioned herself as a friend to the Jews lately but clearly not really.

BeretInParis · 17/10/2025 23:34

The BBC covered this story with its usual ‘neutral’ stance where if one didn’t know better, it might be fair to surmise that the Maccabis are football louts and should be kept out of the UK because MP Kahn says it’s the right thing to do. Then lots of seemingly bemusing talk of antisemitism. Those Jews crying foul again!??? Literally no mention that Birmingham-based Jew-hating Muslims have threatened violence.
