Antisemitism

I read the posts on here with interest and often the subject of anti semitism comes up. I was brought up in a town in the South East. My mum gave me a book about Anne Frank when I was around 8 and I can remember asking ' what is a Jew?' as I had never met one. When I was about 14 a girl from northern Israel came to my school and I was asked to befriend her and help her settle in. I can remember being fascinated about her life in a Kibbutz and she used to show me
Hebrew writing. I don't recall ever hearing anything anti semitic about her or her brother as the only two Jewish kids - to my knowledge in the school. I also remember in my twenties encountering a group of lads from North London - white something and them having an absolute hatred for Jewish people. I can remember feeling utterly shocked as I'd never heard anti Jewish speak prior to this. Reading some of the recent posts on here it has made me wonder wherever there are pockets in the Uk with Jewish communities that experience antisemitism where the rest of the UK it does not occur as people simply have never met a Jewish person just their life- to their knowledge.Where I live I have only met 4 Jewish people in the Uk in my life and I am 47. The most Jewish people I have met were in Israel when I visited in 2000.

It's been the same everywhere since October 7th, but I have seen a shift in Jewish groups recently, especially in the liberal movements. Last year people had a wider range of views on Israel and were talking about how awful antisemitism was. Now they have been infected with the 'We hate Israel and we are all of one mind' virus. Jews are never of one mind, and whilst I am very realistic about the current Israeli government and have my own views, I also think it is a very complicated situation and we do not have even a fraction of the facts. I object in the strongest terms to the current trend for some liberal diaspora Jewish groups to publically turn on Israel and hence give strength to the antisemites.

I completely agree with this. Some members of my family feel this way but they don’t generally use any social media so are unaware of a lot of the recent antisemitism. They also have been left voters their entire lives so they find it hard not to buy into what left leaning media is saying. They are aware some of the facts but I think they feel some kind of guilt when they see the terrible images in the media. Not saying this is the case for all liberal Jews speaking up, they are entitled to their opinions, this is just something I’ve observed in my own Jewish family.

I don’t want to write on the Eurovision thread because that thread is very positive and needs to stay that way. But following Israel’s success, the comments online that I’ve seen are unbelievable. Blaming the fact they didn’t have a good time at the show because of the atmosphere in the city and the arena was horrible due to the protestors. And this is Israel’s fault because they didn’t pull out of the competition. Then it’s onto it’s all controlled by Israel. ‘They forced people to vote.’ ‘They need to do something about this mass Israel voting.’ ‘This is the problem with Zionism’ and various forms of they cheated.

knitnerd90 · 20/05/2025 02:15

People are getting absolutely conspiratorial about it. The voting is never totally clean. But people online are convinced that their country would never have voted for Israel and so Israel must have done something underhanded.

i didn't look on here but people online were being terrible about Gary Lineker as well.

we’ve moved past Holocaust denial to ‘it’s the Jews fault’ they just have done something to deserve it. Frightening. Absolutely chilling.

there was the incident with the French Jewish schoolchildren on a Spanish flight as well. We’re well past using Zionists as a figleaf for antisemitism. It’s just open season now.

This is horrifying. I don't know what to say. As you say, no filter at all. And that guy at the front laughing all the way through it.

EdithStourton · 24/07/2025 21:51

@EllaDisenchanted I couldn't watch all that, I just couldn't stomach it.

I'm so sorry. I used to think that the world could become a better place. I'm not so sure now.

EllaDisenchanted · 28/07/2025 16:54

Did the 'Nazi' video make the news? Or was it whitewashed along with Kanye's insane rants and swastika tshirt for sale...?

This week in 'it didn't happen, and if it did, it wasn't so bad..'

https://x.com/kivafein/status/1946924421249482912 assault at a kosher bakery in london

https://www.ynetnews.com/jewish-world/article/b1ezaztlex Jew assaulted on a bus in Dublin. I believe he was released without charge.

French Jewish children removed from a plane. Evidence still building with that one, but not officially, seen a number of reports of incidents of (visibly orthodox) Jews being not allowed to board planes recently on spurious reasons, which makes it very easy to believe. Like this one https://www.ynetnews.com/jewish-world/article/hjvvvmfgc - but have heard of other incidents (not in the press).

There were a few more; attacks on tourists in Greece on a few occasions.

The irony, I am flying somewhere for a few days in a month, and I am stressing about leaving Israel as a visibly orthodox Jew. Easier for me to go 'undercover' though, as I can wear a wig.

I think I will restart documenting some of what goes on around the world on here again.

MovingBird123 · 28/07/2025 21:25

If it makes you feel more comfortable, I don't think that non-Jews really know how to recognise orthodox Jewish women, unless you're travelling with men.

I’m accompanying my grandmother on a trip so will be without men on the way out at least, and I’ll take off my Magen David necklace. I’ll be going in a wig not a headscarf, which is more discreet. I guess because I can spot an orthodox Jewish woman a mile away, I just assume anyone can, but you’re right, it’s probably not that obvious. I’m sure it will be ok. I’m also stressed about getting stuck out of the country away from the kids if there’s a new surge with iran or something so it’s not just that!

I’ve seen a video floating online, I don’t know when she posted it but it is Huda, founder of make up brand Huda Beauty. She said that Israel was behind World War 1 and 2, September 11th, October 7th. And Iraq and Afganistan wars as well. I knew she was hugely anti Israel but this is a whole different ball game, all to her 4.8 million followers.

That’s a bit odd- there was no Israel prior to the world wars. 🤦‍♀️

Found a link. https://x.com/dahliakurtz/status/1949937225682092063?s=46
indeed Israel are behind two world wars prior to their establishment. Quite the achievement, time travel
almost on par with space lasers…

Yes exactly 😂

thank you for finding the video.

They sell her products at Sephora, Boots, Selfridges, Cult Beauty, Harrods and probably more unfortunately. I wrote to Sephora, Cult Beauty and Boots about her but only got a response from Sephora saying their founders can do whatever they want.

spraying water at religious Jews (including kids). Jolly video set to hava nagila.

I think this thread should be on the main board, not the Jewish board. The Jewish community already know about the rise in antisemitism worldwide. Tracking this on our little hidden corner of mumsnet doesn't raise awareness of the problem more widely.

@EllaDisenchanted i totally agree others should be aware of the situation.

Just wanted to update on my last post regarding Huda Kattan of Huda Beauty. She has posted an ‘apology’ video which you can see on her Instagram. Seemed like quite the opposite of an apology though. Sephora USA are considering their future with the brand apparently. They have been very quick to drop brands in the past due to any controversies but clearly that’s not happened in this case.
I have contacted several of the Huda retailers in the UK to ask what is being done and have had absolutely no response from any of them.

EllaDisenchanted · 10/08/2025 20:08

total non apology- even worse she just repeats the tired lie about weaponising antisemitism to silence her, and all criticism of Israel being called antisemitism.
I mean she outright blamed ‘Israel’ for both world wars ( a whopping lie, and as Israel didn’t even exist yet I think we know what she meant), but all criticism of Israel is antisemitic? Were being blamed for things happening before the state was established but she’s the victim?!?
ugh

Do you think there’s any point starting a thread on a main board though? Or will it just descend into a pile on and collapse?

Jewish man beaten in front of his children in a water park in Canada. The guy tosses his yarmulka into the fountain at the end.

in MSM they note that Montreal police don’t have the motives of the suspect just yet 🤔🤨

That footage from Canada really upset me. A man protecting his child and no one helped. The police took over an hour to respond and nothing……

EllaDisenchanted · 10/08/2025 21:52

There may not have been anyone around @stomachamelon - does it look like mobile or cctv footage?

What on earth could the motivation possibly be, I wonder?

A very upsetting clip, the poor kid. It's all getting ever closer isn't it.....

Thank you for sharing. I contacted Boots and got the below disappointing response.
"I would like to reassure you we take all customer feedback seriously and I have logged all of your comments. We will continue to monitor this issue for similar feedback."
So basically they are happy to keep supporting and promoting her unless they think it will impact them financially.

I just looked again and it zoomed in so I assume it’s filmed on a phone.
