Antisemitism

I read the posts on here with interest and often the subject of anti semitism comes up. I was brought up in a town in the South East. My mum gave me a book about Anne Frank when I was around 8 and I can remember asking ' what is a Jew?' as I had never met one. When I was about 14 a girl from northern Israel came to my school and I was asked to befriend her and help her settle in. I can remember being fascinated about her life in a Kibbutz and she used to show me
Hebrew writing. I don't recall ever hearing anything anti semitic about her or her brother as the only two Jewish kids - to my knowledge in the school. I also remember in my twenties encountering a group of lads from North London - white something and them having an absolute hatred for Jewish people. I can remember feeling utterly shocked as I'd never heard anti Jewish speak prior to this. Reading some of the recent posts on here it has made me wonder wherever there are pockets in the Uk with Jewish communities that experience antisemitism where the rest of the UK it does not occur as people simply have never met a Jewish person just their life- to their knowledge.Where I live I have only met 4 Jewish people in the Uk in my life and I am 47. The most Jewish people I have met were in Israel when I visited in 2000.

It’s unspeakable.
Not only what they said but the glee with which they said it. Proud of themselves.
Extremely disturbing. 😔

There's a Muslim woman parliamentary angry about the way they are being treated. Says they have said sorry and been fired and that should be enough. Says that ' anti-Semitism' is being weaponised.

Unbelievable. Those nurses said they had killed and would kill Israelis. How anyone, let alone an elected Parliamentarian, can say outrage about this is 'weaponising' anti-Semitism is beyond me. How can she not see and hear herself?

That’s disgraceful. No wonder people feel entitled to not only harbour such hate in their hearts but to publicly voice it, as something of which to be proud.

They admitted to murder and planning to murder other people in the future. Why aren’t they in custody awaiting trial?

I would like to get others thoughts on something, I recently saw that YSL had partnered with a Palestinian rapper called St Levant for a new campaign. I’d never heard of him before but having looked into him, apparently he applauded the antisemitic progroms in Amsterdam. They also have use Dua Lipa as one of the faces of their beauty brand, which I’m not thrilled about either. I’m not usually someone who revolves my life around looking into brands but I have one YSL handbag that I saved for and I love and use all the time. Now I do not feel like wearing it, especially at the moment. I’m just interested to get other peoples take on this, making I’m taking it too far by not wearing by handbag.

freakyfriday23 · 23/02/2025 11:00

I'm really annoyed. I don't come on here often so only just noticed that a post of mine was deleted from the me section within the Jewish area ( not the actual me section..I don't go there any more due to the open jew hatred that doesn't seem to get deleted). My post wasn't delete worthy and was probably reported by one of the many snoopers from the me section. How come the bile spouted on there with regular occupancy seems to stay. Concerns me that possibly MNHQ doesn't have impartial personal?

just my opinion, but I’d be guided by whatever you’re feeling rather than overthinking it. If it currently makes you uncomfortable, then don’t use it for now. But I wouldn’t get rid of it.

You feel what you feel and right now it doesn’t feel good for you to use something that you personally currently associate with antisemitism. That’s ok. And if that changes at some point, that’s also ok. It’s neither overdoing it to stop using it if that’s what you feel, or wrong if that passes and you want to use it again.

freakyfriday23 · 23/02/2025 11:48

Tbh I can't remember but I'm careful when I type. Seems we get deleted if we dare to call out clear jew hatred. Snoopers report. How come so much bile goes unchallenged on the me section. Probably because we rarely bother going over there any more as it's toxic. Never seen so much jew hating bile spouted. I don't read the equivalent on here, just fear and hurt which is quite interesting. Quite revealing...

stomachamelon · 23/02/2025 13:48

Sadly we have lots of snoopers.... interlopers..... whatever you want to call them.

Thank you, I really appreciate the reply. I just don’t think I’m able to think clearly this week and I don’t have a Jewish community around me, so it’s a comfort to speak to people on these boards.
I’ve put it away for now and maybe I’ll get it out at some point.

freakyfriday23 · 24/02/2025 10:55

Fwiw I had a very rare sneak peek at the me board last night and (at a quick glance...) didn't see anything that stood out as vile towards the Jewish community which was nice 😄

Its astonishing that these people are so morally rootless that they actually think they are the good guys.

I can't even begin to imagine that level of intellectual and moral bankruptcy.

Do they not realise that the sort of women they are, living the lifestyle they do, with the values they undoubtedly hold, are the sort of women Hamas hate?

I don't think they care. They know they will never meet members of Hamas up close and personal, they are just happy to spew hate safe in the knowledge that it literally has no fallback on them. I don't think they are even thinking that they are the good guys, they literally don't care, they are just enjoying the chance to call for murder for an entire group of people, with a thin veneer excuse to cover it up.

If you can watch videos of Oct 7th and react like that, then you've lost sight of your humanity.

Meanwhile, the actual people caught up in this on both sides do feel the fallout from people like this who are normalising hatred.

Hamas entrench further, backed up by support from people with no skin in the game, pushing them further and further away from the negotiating table, Israeli position hardens too, and the possibility of real peace slips further away. I really don't think if this was explained to people like this that Palestinians are suffering under Hamas too, and this rhetoric harms them, that they would care one jot.

It's shameful.

Such a massive contrast to the post and interactions in the comments I had read literally minutes before, from Palestinian Girl. The contrast between the nuanced posts from people like her, and the aggressive Western protestors at Barnard College pushing pro Hamas pamphlets... I know as a Jew and an Israeli who I would want to meet and make friends with...

That Disney have made an utter pigs ear of Snow White in every single aspect and they are doing damage control, while also not taking accountability for any of the issues that caused it to flop! They could be distancing from Gal because she is Israeli, which I wouldn’t put past Disney, but honestly I hope it’s just Gal distancing herself from this sinking ship 😅

Yes all of this could be true! Interesting that DM states ‘Jewish Gal Gadot is absent’.

I think there are plenty of lurkers TBF & if they haven't seen the tacit acceptance of antisemitism they haven't been watching.😕
I quite like the pandora poison apple charm....but if someone gifted it to me there would be some side-eye 👀 involved.
Btw the mugshot on the right has some seriously Rasputin vibes.

I am curious if there's been a sudden shift in views on the Israel-Palestine conflict recently in the UK, although I can't find any very recent polling.

There was one online community left I visited that was relatively pro-Israel, at least in the sense it blamed Hamas for what is happening. Almost overnight there's been a massive shift and now it's all talk of genocide and evil Zionist colonisers.

I don't blindly agree with everything Israel does, but naturally this shift also comes with a lot of antisemitism. I noticed a thread started about halal food that went exactly the same as a recent Mumsnet equivalent - almost every single post for pages was about how kosher food was "much worse but nobody ever talks about that" to the point I wondered if it had been started explicitly for that purpose.

Unfortunately I am noticing a pattern that a lot of attempts I see online of battling Islamophobia come in the form of bashing on Jews instead.

You could be completely right but I haven’t personally noticed a shift. I have seen a lot of that evil Zionist colonisers way of thinking since October 7th and it’s been quite consistent. It’s hard to gauge but i think a lot of those anti semitic voices just speak very loudly.
I’m often quite disheartened to read some of the comments on Mumsnet but it’s been that way for a long time sadly.

It's been the same everywhere since October 7th, but I have seen a shift in Jewish groups recently, especially in the liberal movements. Last year people had a wider range of views on Israel and were talking about how awful antisemitism was. Now they have been infected with the 'We hate Israel and we are all of one mind' virus. Jews are never of one mind, and whilst I am very realistic about the current Israeli government and have my own views, I also think it is a very complicated situation and we do not have even a fraction of the facts. I object in the strongest terms to the current trend for some liberal diaspora Jewish groups to publically turn on Israel and hence give strength to the antisemites.
