Hi ladies, I'm new (and late) posting in this thread but had my first, and very last FET on Wednesday. I've been reading your replies and found them comforting during this 'challenging' time so thank you. Sorry for this long post, history incoming...
I'm now 42 and we've been trying for 5 years. I was misdiagnosed at the start of COVID with PCOS after stopping the pill, went through the referral and clomid treatment then they realised it was ultimately unexplained infertility on my side. I also have an underactive thyroid and another autoimmune disease but both are under control. After many delays we finally got NHS funding but our area only funds 1 round (1 egg collection, 1 transfer).
First egg collection last October retrieved 22 eggs, 16 fertilised but none made it to blast to freeze. So that was the end of the NHS round. So so disappointing as they don't really prepare you for that to happen and we felt like we didn't have a good crack at the whip!
We then funded another cycle, medicine tweaked to yield a better result... apparently. Egg collection was in January and retrieved 25 eggs of which 2 made it to the freezer. Yay! One step furtthan before. However, I ended up in hospital for 4 days with severe OHSS and once I was better I couldn't face anymore visits to the clinic, I am actually still traumatised by the OHSS today, so much so I will not do anymore egg collections. Full stop. I'm having counselling to help as this has impacted me in other ways more than I thought.
No surprise I asked for a natural cycle for my FET which was approved by the consultant as my cycles are like clockwork. Relief, no more injections!
Out of the 2 blasts, unfortunately only 1 made the thaw on Wednesday... And my OTD is 12th May. I will be testing on day 9 as it was a natural cycle we should have a reliable result by then. Finally, as I feel like my life has been at a crossroads for the past year. Anyone else?!
If I hear one more nurse say "it only takes one egg" I will probably scream with laughter after this rollercoaster experience 😂 if you've managed read this far thank you ❤️ And I wish all of you the best with your upcoming transfers 🤞🏻
