Hi - I wondered if anyone else had recently found out they were pregnant after IVF or loss? I am 4w6d today, waiting on some beta blood tests and have my first scan in just under 3 weeks.

We are very lucky to have a daughter who is 3 born from IVF and have been trying for a sibling for 2 years.

Had forgotten how utterly terrifying and anxiety-inducing (or as I also like to call it, 'knicker-watch') this first part was so if anyone else is in the same boat and wants to swap stories then that would be lovely.

Did you go to your midwife appointment @wateringcanface ? I have a scan on Wednesday and my midwife on Thursday!

@BrownBlossom @CaffeineAndCrochet @Jcm1985 @PsychologyGeek @teetwenty20 @Nic28j @

Hope everyone is doing well! I feel like Christmas is providing me with lots of good distractions. Although I did have a total hormonal meltdown at my husband today about how much I feel I have to get done before I can enjoy the holidays. Poor guy.

@loulamay exciting week for you! Is that a private scan? I’m also thinking of booking one as 12 weeks feels like such a long way away, but not too sure when to book (9 weeks will be Christmas Day!)

@wateringcanface how was your midwife appointment (if you went)? Hope you and your partner are both feeling better.

@Nic28j I think I’m feeling a lot like you are. Hard just to get through the working day because of sickness and incredible tiredness! Have a meeting with my LM tomorrow and think I’m going to bite the bullet and tell her. It might take the pressure off a little bit at least.

I’m doing ok - have been quiet on here as just feeling so so tired most of the time and really busy at work which is making it even harder. We had our official seven week scan last week and still two little heartbeats. One was measuring bang on and the other two days behind (though they didn’t seem worried). Also have a bit of a bleed near one of the sacks, but again they didn’t seem too concerned. Have been discharged from our clinic now and first appointment with the midwife on the 18th.

To those of you who have booked private scans - when have you gone for?

Hope everyone’s doing well!

Hey 👋

Midwife appointment was good, uneventful really. Just a lot of questions about health and family history, urine test, blood test, blood pressure and flu vaccine. But was a nice experience and feels good to be starting these processes.

Midwife told me that as I'm IVF pregnancy it will midwife and consultant lead, and that they won't let me go over 40 weeks. Which I did not know was a thing, I'm not complaining about it, but I assumed I would just be treated like a normal pregnancy.

I am absolutely rotten; I think I've got full blown flu, only just got out of bed today. I'm trying to see the positives that it is now, and not closer to Christmas, but I do feel rough, I regret accepting the vaccine too as I was already ill, so think that has made it worse. I'm meant to have another scan tomorrow but I'm in two minds, I should really cancel but I want to go. Whenever I show up to the clinic they always ask if I have had any covid symptoms in the last 2 weeks, I know it is not covid as I have taken a test, but I'm not sure they will even let me in. It's not the type of illness I can hide as I'm talking like a 70-year-old who has been smoking a pack a day all her life, and I'm visually noticeably unwell (pale, blotchy, bags, snotty etc).

Glad everyone seems good, albeit emotional and tired x

loulamay · 09/12/2024 20:14

@PsychologyGeek yes, it's a private scan and I'll be almost ten weeks. I'm really not sure how it will play out but given that I'm 12 weeks on the 27th of December, I don't know if the NHS scans/booking system will be a bit delayed because of Christmas and I didn't think I could wait until mid-January if that's even a possibility! I'm so sorry you're feeling so ill - you're growing two little humans - no wonder!

@wateringcanface sorry you are also sick you poor thing! That's ringing a bell now about the consultant-led thing but I think in the end I was glad of it - I also had a planned c-section with our DD so didn't have the question mark over the 40 week bit.

@loulamay Exciting times, isn't it!

@Nic28j sorry to hear you are not feeling that great.

@PsychologyGeek You poor thing, but at least the twins are doing well!

@wateringcanface sorry to hear that you are not feeling well, but good that you will be consultant led, hopefully they will mange the risks better!

Sorry I have not been very active. I feel so poorly, I have never felt this bad in my life except when I had a stomach bug.

I was completely off food and drink and had to see my GP for anti sickness meds. Turned out that I had UTI as well! So she has started me on antibiotic and Cyclizine, can't say that it is helping!

I also had to tell my manager informally but my role is pretty independent and I cannot really slack off at work.

I am basically in survival mode barely breathing and keeping myself alive.

My midwife appointment is on Wednesday at 8+3 weeks, hopefully all will go well.

loulamay · 11/12/2024 18:22

All good with my scan today, baby was wriggling around and measuring 9w6d (IVF scan put me one day behind that so am technically a day ahead again) and looking much more baby-shaped!! Starting to feel like I can relax a tiny bit.

Midwife tomorrow and hoping to get some insight into 12-week scan dates given that 12 weeks falls on Boxing Day for me. Hope everyone is well!

OP posts:
loulamay · 11/12/2024 18:24

@teetwenty20 that sounds horrendous you poor poor thing! Can you work from home at all? Hopefully the UTI antibiotics will kick in sharpish and at least get rid of one issue. Sending hugs x

OP posts:
wateringcanface · 12/12/2024 08:51

sorry to hear you aren't well @teetwenty20, I have heard UTI's are common in pregnancy but not idea why.

@loulamay I don't think the NHS are that bothered about hitting the 12-week scan date exactly, my friend just recently got her 12-week scan on week 14. My 12 weeks falls NY. I have received dates for my first obstetrician appointment (April) and my first community midwife appointment (end of Jan) but not received a scan date.

I was discharged from clinic on Tuesday, had another scan at 9 weeks, baby measuring 2 days behind but said this is not a concern, and she said she doubts this is the case as she said the baby was very curled in so likely obscuring measurements.

I wanted to announce my pregnancy to a few groups of friends next weekend. I am going out with three separate groups Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. All 3 groups would guess straight away when they see me turn down wine or prosecco, so I might as well tell them. But I feel it is very self-indulgent and cringe to announce in person, so I'd like to pop a scan picture on the group chats the day before, but my 9-week scan pictures are awful, baby just looks like a prawn (a cute prawn). For all they know I'm just sending a picture announcing I have kidney stones or something as the picture is not very obviously a baby. I'm hoping if I do a private one at 10 weeks 2 days, it'll be slightly better, but I feel quite excessive having 3 scans before 12 weeks 😂

I'm still ill but getting better. What an awful week this has been!

CaffeineAndCrochet · 12/12/2024 19:17

7 weeks today, and have a scan on Monday to check for heart beat etc. Have been absolutely smothered with a headcold the last few days, so just doing my best to try and get through that.

Hope everyone else getting on ok. Will check back in post-scan. At the moment, I feel like I'm in stasis until I know everything is ok.

teetwenty20 · 12/12/2024 20:10

@wateringcanface No amount of scan is excessive, do whatever helps with your anxiety and gives you peace of mind!

I thought I will wait for the NHS 12 weeks scan (anytime 11-13 weeks in my area) but had heard a news of someone having a mmc around 10 weeks. I can't stop worrying now and have booked a 10 week scan next week.

@CaffeineAndCrochet Fingers crossed for you, hope all will be well with you scan xx

@loulamay How did the midwife appointment go?

Mine were pretty boring and I had reasearched on things do much that no information was new for me! 🤐🙈
I will be consultant led due to autoimmune disease which was expected.

wateringcanface · 13/12/2024 08:58

Hope your scan goes well @CaffeineAndCrochet

Thanks @teetwenty20 this scan is for dual reasons, one insurance, and two to get a better image so we can give it to some family members for the announcement. - (We aren't going 'public' public till 12 weeks, but just with the time of year this is falling on, we are telling a few groups a bit early).

I was also the same with the midwife appointment, I knew absolutely everything that would happen before stepping in haha.

I was told I need to have a consultant because I'm an IVF pregnancy. I don't have any other health conditions that would indicate need for consultant.

Me and my husband both tested positive for Flu, feels good to have it validated as we have been so rough. Though if you google flu and first trimester it comes up with miscarriage and defects, so that is not great - Luckily that is mostly due to fever, which I have not had much of.

loulamay · 13/12/2024 18:35

Hope everyone is doing ok - all these illnesses! it's totally the time of year as well. Look after yourselves.

Good luck tomorrow @CaffeineAndCrochet and good idea about the scan @teetwenty20 - my morning sickness has been absent for about 4 days now and luckily I had my scan on day 2 of that, otherwise I would have been out of my mind with worry. Worth every penny.

Midwife was totally fine, I had her with my daughter and she's lovely. Everything was mostly information gathering, I have my 12 week scan booked for New Years Eve (!) when I'll be 12w5d but the 5 day delay was at my request because of Christmas travel, doesn't seem to be any delays in our area which is good.

They are probably going to keep me on baby aspirin for the whole pregnancy so that will be the only drug I continue after I finish the IVF meds at 12 weeks. They took a blood sample and iron levels etc came back fine which is great, but they did find an antibody in my blood (which could be from pregnancy, miscarriage or the transfusion I had after my OHSS surgery) so I have to go back on Monday so that they can take a larger sample to find out which one. I shouldn't have googled but I did and now feel a little concerned but time will tell. It's always something!

CaffeineAndCrochet · 17/12/2024 09:03

Scan yesterday showed everything is progressing perfectly 😍
Saw - and took a video of - a beautiful strong heartbeat, and baby is measuring right on track. I've just been walking around in a cloud of joy since.

wateringcanface · 17/12/2024 09:44

great news!! @CaffeineAndCrochet what a wonderful feeling! Perfect just before Christmas.

All good over here too, my flu has gone. I have a tiny bit of scanxiety creeping in ahead of Friday, just as I am concerned about the toll being so ill for 2 weeks has had on my body and baby. But realistically, I know that babies are resilient, and if they are planning on sticking around, not much will stop em! Also been having some awful round ligament pain, really painful. I have looked it up, and I may be getting it worse as I have a large fibroid, so the uterus will be growing unevenly creating pressure - it makes sense, but I am worried if it is this bad now how bad will it be when I'm further along 😳

Assuming Friday goes well, we are telling a bunch of people over the weekend, we will be 10 weeks and 5 days. Bit earlier than ideal but statistically at this point, the stats are on my side. In other circumstances I would wait, but I've got 3 social events over the weekend, all local or hosted at ours, so there is no excuse for not drinking they would believe so we may as well. I'm not bothered about social media announcements; not sure I'll do that at all. Close family already know and are itching to be able to talk about it (first baby on both sides)

When are you all planning on announcing?

CaffeineAndCrochet · 18/12/2024 23:21

Our parents know already. Plan is to tell rest of immediate family over Christmas (I'll be about 9 weeks) but then I want to hold off for a while longer. I don't think it's the risk of anything going wrong, but I'm enjoying the little bubble we're in at the moment. It took nearly two years to get here, so I want to just enjoy it by ourselves for a while longer before telling other people.

teetwenty20 · 20/12/2024 12:07

@CaffeineAndCrochet what a lovely news about the scan! xx I completely understand what you mean, its like a little secret between DH & me and I didn't want to let anyone in and wanted to hold onto it as long as I can.

Unfortunately I was so poorly, I had to tell few friends here and there and had to inform HR as I feel I needed some adjustments. I feel a bit bummed that I couldn't do a big announcement but I really need all the support I can get right now.

@wateringcanface All the best for the scan today!
I also have that awful muscle pain around my belly which my midwife said was round ligament pain! I thought that came later down the line but I guess pregnancy is a weird thing.

@loulamay Hope all is well the antibodies, fingers crossed for you xx
Its always something, isn't it? You achieve one milestone and then worry about the next and can never fully relax!

I wasn't throwing up day and night for the last 1 week and was so worried about things going wrong, I had rescheduled the scan for yesterday at 9+6 instead of 10+2 as planned originally.
Turned out little one is thriving! It was very active, playing with the cord, throwing all its little arms and legs and was measuring a day ahead even! Mind rested for now and waiting for the next scan in 2 weeks which will be the NHS dating scan.

Clocloxx · 22/12/2024 20:13

Hi can I join? 😁 3rd ivf cycle finally got to transfer! Transfered two grade 2 embryos on day 3, currently 4 weeks 3 days pregnant, still in total disbelief and extremely anxious all the time!!

wateringcanface · 23/12/2024 10:06

@CaffeineAndCrochet that's fair enough, I've enjoyed keeping it from people up until now and does feel like a bubble.

@teetwenty20 Sorry you didn't get your announcement, if it makes you feel any better, mine were quite underwhelming, not that people weren't happy and making a fuss, they really did. Just that I felt a bit embarrassed and self indulgent, so tried to steer the conversations away 😅 . And I'm so glad your scan went well, it's so lovely to see them moving around.

@loulamay sorry I must have missed that comment before. I hope all is OK with the antibodies? I've never heard of that before.

@Clocloxx welcome!! And huge congratulations. If you read back, you'll see the anxiety in the first few weeks is awful. Easier said than done but enjoy the buzz, especially over Christmas. When's your first scan? And I'm calculating an end of August due date?

Our scan on Friday was great, measuring a day ahead (was 2 days behind on the 9 week scan) and very wriggly. The sonographer was lovely but did say something that concerned us, she was pointing out babies features, and got to the neck and said something about thickness, then said "are you getting screened for down syndrome?" And we said yes, then I asked if everything is fine and she said yes. Probably didn't mean anything and was just a poorly timed question but it was odd.

teetwenty20 · 24/12/2024 09:40

@Clocloxx Welcome! And cautious congratulations! It's amazing and extremely nerve wrecking at the same time!

@wateringcanface I hope the comment was poorly timed and does not mean anything! Nuchal thickness is measured at 12 weeks so you still have time. What an odd thing to say!

On another note, what are you guys wearing for clothes? None of mine fit me already and I feel so uncomfortable stuffing myself like a sausage in tight clothes. So far I have been doing midi dresses and tights for work but the tights have started to cut into my belly now! I wanted to look at maternity trousers during the boxing day sale but those trousers have massive bumps that I don't have yet!

loulamay · 27/12/2024 08:15

Hi everyone and welcome @Clocloxx ! Hope you all had a fab Christmas!

Not heard back about the antibodies result yet but thinking I might see if anyone is in the offices today - not sure what working days are happening. Otherwise we are counting down to the 12 week scan (when I'll be 12w5d) and then if all is ok there we'll probably tell some family and friends. I hate attention so won't make a big deal out of it! They all know we've been through the ringer with IVF so never ask any questions - but it will be nice to have some good news to share for a change.

I am already in my maternity clothes from last time @teetwenty20 hahaha - I don't think the Chrismtas eating has helped 😂I work from home so luckily don't need to find office clothes but one interim could be maternity leggings with a nice long top? the leggings just come up really high so don't have the same 'band' of material that the jeans and trousers have so you can grow into them. I didn't want to spend loads so New Look at H&M are not bad - their nursing bras are very comfy too. The other interim measure is a trouser extender which helps if your trousers won't do up - it's all so glam! Below link is not great, there are better out there but I can't find them right now. Will still need a nicer top to go over!

Hi girls I'm 6 weeks tomorrow I have some cramping only but no sickness yet, has anyone got morning sickness yet? I have my 1st scan on Friday and obviously a nervous wreck that the embryo has stop growing or just thinking the worse of everything 🙃 hope everyone else is doing good? X

NouvelleNovice · 01/01/2025 21:17

Hi all, hope you don’t mind me jumping in. I had 5 day fresh ET on 7th December. Scan is next Wednesday.

@Clocloxx can totally relate! No sickness but feeling really dizzy/faint whenever I get up or move quickly and today had cramps for about 6 hours, no bleeding so hoping it’s nothing serious and reading about your experiences has helped! I’m on the progesterone pessaries twice a day so blame any symptoms on them and refuse to believe I might actually be pregnant

CakePigeon30 · 01/01/2025 22:40

Hello, I'm 6 weeks today. First scan Monday.

@Clocloxx I haven't had any sickness yet, only cramps, sore boobs and a little bit of back ache.

wateringcanface · 02/01/2025 10:26

@Clocloxx I got a touch of nausea around 6 weeks but only lasted a week or so, otherwise my symptoms have been pretty minimal apart from round ligament pain.

I totally know the anxiety feeling, the first scan is the worse as you are just desperate for their to be a heart beat. After the first scan the anxiety for the next ones lessen, but is still there.

Congratulations and welcome @NouvelleNovice and @CakePigeon30 , exciting and nerve wracking times. I found it massively helpful to have others at a simular time line to myself. Not long now till the 3 of you have your first scan.

I've been quiet over Christmas as I've just been relaxing (plus I usually type when im at work on laptop and I'm not back yet 😂)

I hope everyone's the same and has just been enjoying Christmas and enjoying being preggers!

I had my 12 week scan a few days ago, everything was perfect, baby is measuring 2 days ahead and looks like a boy.

I have consultant appointment in a few days, sort of can't be bothered as I really don't know what there is to talk about.

I'm going to book a gender scan around 16/17 weeks, I'm not really interested in the gender I just like to have dates/ weeks to count down to.

Clocloxx · 04/01/2025 12:55

Hi everyone I had my 1st scan yesterday at 6 weeks 1 day, saw a lovely little heart beat! 💓 the doctor said she can't measure the rate of it but it looks good, still in total disbelief im actually pregnant!! my ovaries where also very swollen (I do have pain mostly at night when moving in bed) but my ivf doctor said it's normal for the ovaries to be swollen 🤔 anyone else have this issue?
Also I think my morning sickness kicked in slightly but in a different way, hunger kicks in quickly and if I don't eat I start empty reaching! Happened at 4 this morning and again in the morning 🙂
