Hi - I wondered if anyone else had recently found out they were pregnant after IVF or loss? I am 4w6d today, waiting on some beta blood tests and have my first scan in just under 3 weeks.

We are very lucky to have a daughter who is 3 born from IVF and have been trying for a sibling for 2 years.

Had forgotten how utterly terrifying and anxiety-inducing (or as I also like to call it, 'knicker-watch') this first part was so if anyone else is in the same boat and wants to swap stories then that would be lovely.

@Jcm1985 So there is hope then, fingers crossed, just wish for this weekend to hurry up

@Nic28j how have you got on?

BrownBlossom · 25/11/2024 23:46

Ahh feeling much better after the scan. Heart beat was there although the measurements were showing 1 day behind and little bean didn't want to show up hidden in some corner( could not get a clear pic) they said its nothing to worry about.
But the hurting bit is I have to continue with all the medication untill 12 weeks 🤮

Fingers Cross for you @Jcm1985

Congratulations @loulamay now looking forward to next mile stone of 12 weeks

loulamay · 26/11/2024 07:48

great news @BrownBlossom ! a day behind at this stage is no issue whatsoever - from what I've read you can be almost a week behind before they even start to question anything at this early stage and measurements are notoriously tricky for something so tiny!

When will you be 12 weeks? Have you booked in with a midwife?

@wateringcanface thinking of you this morning 😘

@Nic28j @teetwenty20 hope you're doing ok x

Nic28j · 26/11/2024 08:16

So pleased for you @loulamay and @BrownBlossom x

Everything crossed @Jcm1985, stay positive x

Good luck @wateringcanface today, thinking of you x

Mine isn’t until Thursday so another couple of days to wait. I hit a real low point with sickness back end of last week, came home from work sick on Friday but had a very chilled weekend and thankfully a little better - still vomiting once/twice a day but a lot less nauseous (previously it was constant, now it’s much more manageable).

teetwenty20 · 26/11/2024 08:58

@loulamay @BrownBlossom so
glad for you! x

@Jcm1985 stay positive! at this stage 1-3 days behind is normal.

Good to hear that you guys are doing so well!

I am not having the greatest time myself. I have had on & off spotting since 5 weeks, I am 6+2 today. On top of that I've had lots of weird twitching, stretching pain which I understand is RL pain, but I have had right sided cramping too. I had an ectopic on my left tube 3 years ago so naturally I am scared and worrying myself to health.

I tried to contact EPU and they have been really unhelpful and I was basically roaming in a circle of EPU-GP-111-A&E.
I ended up just going to work to take my mind off of things.

My clinic has also moved my scan to 7+3 from 6+3 which is next Tuesday!
I have booked a private scan on Thursday to get some peace of mind. Fingers crossed for a reassuring scan!

wateringcanface · 26/11/2024 12:31

Thanks for the well wishes, its all good here, measuring right on track for 7 weeks and could see little heart beat. Going back in 2 weeks for another scan, as my fibroid made the visibility poor, but they are happy with what they could see 😊

Sorry your morning sickness has been so rough @Nic28j Fingers crossed it's reached its peak and starts to come down.

@teetwenty20 that's really crappy of them, if there's a potential for an ectopic they should rule that out. Hopefully the pain is just round ligament pain, apparently it's common to feel it more to one side. Fingers crossed for you. I'm annoyed on your behalf they aren't taking your complaints more seriously x

Nic28j · 26/11/2024 13:45

@wateringcanface so glad everything went well x

loulamay · 26/11/2024 18:49

Oh @Nic28j you poor thing! Hope you're ok and that it does start to ease soonish!

@teetwenty20 - that sounds stressful and my heart goes out to you. I honestly think there's a mild PTSD that comes with IVF and things like an ectopic but so glad that you have a private scan in a couple of days - I think I would have done the same thing.

@wateringcanface (do tell us why that's your username 😂) so so thrilled for you. Also just goes to show that symptoms mean jackshit!

Not convinced that I can wait until the 12 week scan for the next reassurance and am thinking of booking a private one around 10 weeks. Seeing the midwife around then too but don't know if they do a heartbeat doppler that early on or just take bloods etc. We were in South Africa where we lived until I was 14 weeks so missed that whole part here.

Had quite an emotional day today - assuming it must be the hormones. Was in floods of tears over a dog rescue video on Instagram FFS 🙄

Great news to hear about so many successful seven week scans ❤

We have had quite a stressful few days as I started having some really bad pains on one side and was fearing an ectopic. Spoke to our clinic yesterday and they agreed to bring us in early (5w6d) to see what was going on. Thankfully everything was in the right place, but the big surprise was that there are two babies! Got to see the heartbeats and they were measuring where they should be. Obviously just so relieved but also slightly in shock! They found that the pain is because my ovaries are still really huge (they’re touching) and there’s some fluid leaking. Apparently nothing to do but wait until they go down now. We’re back in for our seven week scan as planned next week.

What a physical and emotional rollercoaster IVF is, hey? Sending lots of love to all you.

wateringcanface · 27/11/2024 09:58

@loulamay Unfortunately the story behind my name is fairly boring 😂I needed a name change, and just looked around the room for inspiration and there was a watering can, and walla, wateringcanface was born.

the hormones have been an issue with me, it is making me more irritable though rather than emotional.

I would book an earlier scan, 7 - 12 weeks is ages to wait I think.

I have one at 9 weeks, I ideally wanted one at 10 weeks as I feel comfortable announcing pregnancy then to friends/extended family, but I don't know if it is safe to do ultrasounds so close together? Anyone got any insight into this?

@PsychologyGeek Sorry about the added stress, is that mild late onset OHSS? but ... Eee twins! How exciting (I am ever so slightly jealous haha).

loulamay · 27/11/2024 10:16

wow, @PsychologyGeek that is big news!!! So exciting! (and a little nerve-wracking I'm sure!)

@wateringcanface I think I might book one for around 10 weeks as well. The only problem is that I've looked up most of the private ones and none give you a heart rate number, they all just say 'see the heartbeat'. As far as I know they pose zero risk to you or the baby.

OP posts:
wateringcanface · 27/11/2024 12:18

@loulamay is the heart rate number that important? I saw the heart beat on mine for about 10 seconds, from looking i could estimate the beat was approx 100bpm

loulamay · 27/11/2024 19:57

Let us know how you get on tomorrow @teetwenty20 x

OP posts:
wateringcanface · 28/11/2024 09:48

Good luck today @teetwenty20

I have enjoyed a couple of days of no anxiety from getting some reassurance from the scan on Tuesday, however, I am now quite conscious that I feel too good 😂. I did not need to nap yesterday, I was full of energy, and 0 nausea or anything. So, while not fully back, I can definitely sense it creeping back ahead of next scan.

Also, whats your thoughts on prawn cocktail? I am going to a Christmas meal in a few weeks, only options for starters are a pear and blue cheese salad, prawn cocktail, duck pate, and soup. I really don't want soup 😆. Prawn cocktail seems the lesser of the other evils? (I'll probably wimp out and begrudgingly order soup)

loulamay · 28/11/2024 10:47

Any cooked fish is 100% fine! Get the prawns!

Nic28j · 28/11/2024 12:20

We had our scan this morning - saw the heartbeat, everything is where it should be and measuring spot on at 7 weeks 4 days. Such a relief!

Thinking of you @teetwenty20 x

wateringcanface · 28/11/2024 13:49

amazing news @Nic28j xxx

teetwenty20 · 28/11/2024 17:20

Such a lovely news! @Nic28j

@PsychologyGeek What a surprise! You must be so chuffed!
Do look after yourself, with the swollen ovaries and two bubs you need all the rest that you can get x

I had my scan this afternoon and baby is 6+6 weeks with a strong heartbeat!!!
Almost can't believe that this is my baby! This is the first time I got to see a heart beat and I am so effing emotional. 🥹

wateringcanface · 29/11/2024 08:55

@teetwenty20 aw that is lovely.

Just had to tell the company I do a lot of work for I am pregnant as they were asking me about my availability to travel next summer for something. I'd have rather waited till 12 weeks, but I could not think of ways of tiptoeing around the question, eek. These little things make it seem more real.

wateringcanface · 02/12/2024 09:42

Morning guys, how has everyone's been?

I have had a nice weekend; first time I felt I have just been out enjoying myself rather than obsessing over the pregnancy. I had a day out shopping and went on a bar crawl on Saturday with friends - I was surprised how much I enjoyed that sober (granted not as much as I would have with wine, but still)

A bit of nausea seems to have creeped back though, which is odd, it disappeared for a week.

I found out this weekend that 2 more friends are pregnant, both very early. That makes 4 of my close friends now, we are all pregnant with just a few weeks in-between us all. We have a group chat, and we find it hilarious the timing of it. However, I said no more people are welcome as it is getting ridiculous and stealing my thunder 😂

As lovely as it is, it does also add a level of anxiety, as now we have multiple peoples milestones to compare ourselves to should anything go wrong, I expressed this, and I am so jealous of the non IVF naivety as it seems it hasn't crossed anyone's mind (minus 1, who has had a miscarriage) that anything would or could go wrong.

loulamay · 02/12/2024 14:59

I totally get it @wateringcanface - I have a close group of girlfriends from school and they all got pregnant with ease - one even on her honeymoon so the first cycle they tried - and although they are super supportive, unless you have been through IVF and/or loss, you really have no clue.

My parents are staying with us for a week which is bliss because they can help with childcare and cooking! So I'm hoping to have a relaxing time. I have booked a private scan for almost ten weeks, the day before my midwife appointment. Feeling less nervous about it than the first one, but also just counting down the days to the second trimester when I hope I will be able to breathe just a bit more.

When is your next scan @Jcm1985 ?

OP posts:
wateringcanface · 05/12/2024 09:52

Threads been quiet - I hope everyone is okay?

@loulamay I find it hard not to get jealous of those that baby making comes easy to. My OH likes to say if we tried when we first discussed a couple of years ago, then we would have had no problem, but we decided to wait till after his surgery and our wedding, and it was the surgery that caused all this 🙄but I guess we have no way of knowing really. I have quite a few friends with fertility issues, so I'm exposed to a mixed bag.

My scanxiety is creeping up again, I have had to tell a few more people as it was too hard to avoid in the context, and me and OH have been discussing how to tell other people around Christmas, I think the reality of it being public knowledge approaching is making me concerned that we are getting ahead of ourselves, and just because we had one good scan, does not mean the next will be the same.

Nic28j · 06/12/2024 09:18

Sorry for the quiet ness on my side, just been feeling really rough and expending a lot of energy just getting through the working days! I have told work this week as I am struggling to keep the sickness to myself, they were very supportive which is nice. Still seems scary though as we are not even 9 weeks yet.

I have my first midwife appointment on Monday - does anyone else have theirs booked?

@wateringcanface sorry you’re still struggling with the anxiety - do you have another scan booked?

wateringcanface · 06/12/2024 10:42

@Nic28j Sorry you are feeling rough. I think it is better to tell people, it puts unnecessary stress on yourself to act as if you are okay.

I have my midwife appointment on Sunday though I don't know whether to cancel as I have been unwell, I have had it mild, but my husband was unwell with 1-2 weeks with it, luckily, I seem to have had more like 2-3 days of it as its starting to (hopefully) go away.

Yes, I have a scan on Tuesday, this will be 9 weeks. I am nowhere near as anxious as the first one, but I am still anxious. Last week a dog jumped up at me, enough so to leave a small scratch on my pelvic area, it did make me a bit paranoid. Trying to tell myself though that the baby is quite deep in there and the scratch will be nowhere near it. Realistically if something was to have happened, that won't be the cause, but I do have visions of hearing "it stopped growing at 8 weeks 1 day".

Honestly, if you met me in person, I am such a chilled person 😂but I'm coming across a nervous wreck on here.

Nic28j · 06/12/2024 10:49

@wateringcanface this process can really do some funny things to us, it’s understandable to be anxious. I haven’t booked a scan as of yet, I personally am more anxious of hearing that something is wrong, so I’m going to wait another couple of weeks if I can and book one just before Christmas.

Not to patronise but I’m sure the dog jumping won’t have done anything - the baby is so tucked away. Saying that, I had to do an emergency stop a couple of weeks ago and panicked that I’d caused damage.

I hope you feel better soon. If you do manage to go and you’re happy to share on Sunday I’d love to hear what happens at the booking appointment.
