Anyone doing FET/IVF in November 2024?✨

MrsBP15 · 19/10/2024 09:31

Hello MN

I started a thread for ivf in September but ended up having a freeze all cycle and lots of people on said thread have moved on to BFPs etc. Due to have FET at the start of November so hoping to chat to others in a similar situ ☺️

Bit about me: first ever round, been trying for 2 years, have blocked tubes and have 14 embryos in the freezer thanks to successful egg collection in September.

Sending baby dust and good vibes to one and all!!✨✨✨

ah yes of course @MrsBP15 - keep us updated for tomorrow! that's good to know about your previous scans, and what was going on with those follicles!

I had mine yesterday, they said right is a little quiet, but left doing ok. second scan tomorrow, and if all ok, we will be looking at EC next weds or friday, which is just mad, that it's coming round so quick!

i had acupuncture in the afternoon, and she was using the moxibustion / mugwort burning, with several pins on the right side... never had that before, let's hope it stimulates something!

how are you feeling ahead of scan?

and @Thatslifethatsit - thanks for this update too! i started the fyremadel yesterday, and am wondering if I will start to feel more bloated this weekend, it will be a week of stims tomorrow. have you been cooking anything nice? and hurrah for that third round!!!

@Annie1306 @FondantEclair I'm also at the same clinic 🙂 a little behind you on my treatment tho - starting norethisterone next week. Would be really helpful to hear how you've gotten on with the meds over the next week or so! I'm worried about messing up the injections, or the timing being off if I dont have my bleed in time after the norethisterone. Also terrified of something happening to mean we end up with a cancelled cycle as it's our only funded round.
Hope everyone here is getting on OK!

I’ve finished Norethisterone now. It was ok overall, I was maybe a bit more hungry and moody than usual. I wouldn’t necessarily attribute it to the pills - there are normal variations in how one feels from day to day, and I’ve taken these at the end of the cycle.
Let the nurses know when it’s your day one. If you don’t bleed on time, they might postpone a few days if necessary, the treatment calendar is not set in stone.
There are enough medicines in the pack to keep you going for a few extra days or for mistakes. For example, a vial that says 900IU actually has 1000IU, to allow for small losses when taking air out of the syringe. So it’s possible that one daily dose is made up from two vials. Only for the trigger you have one shot (pun intended) to do it right. I found good videos on how to do the injections from the Fertility Plus and UMC Utrecht clinics.
Medicines can’t be reissued and annoyingly you can’t pay for parts of the treatment (such as the injection vials) or add-ons like PGT-A testing. I remember the nurse saying Covid-19 is still going round and it’s better to delay a month if there are problems.
Best of luck!

Thatslifethatsit · 31/10/2024 07:58

@monica3287 i think it’s a case of everyone is different as well. Hopefully cooking something scan next week just taking life as easy as possible

Magix86 · 31/10/2024 09:13

Thanks @Annie1306 that's really good to hear! I'm tired already trying to limit my coffee intake lol so can imagine I'll be going to bed very early too once I start 😅
Hope the rest of your injections go well. You must be due a scan soon! I think you've said already, but is this your first ivf round?

@FondantEclair thank you. That's all really reassuring! Are you NHS for your treatment? Frustrating that you can't pay for add ons or extras if needed. I was wondering about covid - in our consent forms it said we needed to do a test before treatments and also mentioned isolating. But none of the nurses or doctors have mentioned this? We thought it might just be old info that hadn't been updated. Have you been told anything about covid testing before treatment?

@Magix86 Yes, this is my first IVF and my first round. Today I feel bit more tired that yesterday and my first scan appointment is tomorrow. Is it true that if you are NHS patient then you can't get add ons even if you are ready to pay ?

FondantEclair · 31/10/2024 10:37

@Magix86 Yes, I am NHS for this treatment, one cycle.
The nurse told me just to be more careful and try to stay at home a bit more if I can. She did not mention testing, so it must be an older text in the consent form.
I know you were worried about messing up injections, I’m not sure if this is reassuring or more-anxiety provoking, but I’d say that much of the results of the treatment are outside our control. We all have that magical thinking about how we could have influenced the result: “If only I had not missed the last drop in the syringe/ if only I hadn’t been 20 minutes late etc”
Truth is there’s so many variables in here and the NHS treatment is, of course, quite basic. For example, some months in the year there is simply more, or less, follicles than the AMH would suggest. DNA tests - that cost ££££ - can show genes that impact the results, such as receptivity to the treatment, risk of miscarriage, and compatibility with the male side; also the approach of the Doctor.
So many unknowns but keeping my faith!

Magix86 · 31/10/2024 10:46

Will be thinking of you for your scans tomorrow @Annie1306 and @MrsBP15 !
I'm really not sure if they will allow you add ons to pay for privately within the nhs round, I haven't had that conversation with the clinic myself.
@FondantEclair I find that helpful actually- just to remind myself that a lot of this is out of my control and all I can do is follow the treatment plan and hope for a good result!
Also interesting to hear about the AFC varying from month to month - My AMH is 16.9 which they said is good for my age (37), but I only had AFC of 8. I was expecting more than this but the doctor also said this was as they'd expect....I'm hoping perhaps the stims might increase the numbers, or that next month will be a naturally higher AFC month 🤞🏻

MrsBP15 · 31/10/2024 11:58

Thank you @monica3287 and great to hear that you’ve some activity on one of your ovaries, I have everything crossed for you. I have acupuncture tonight and then a few sessions next week ahead of transfer. Who knows if it does anything but I certainly enjoy it! I’m looking forward to having a scan tomorrow to find out what’s going on. My husband has the day off as well so we’re going for brunch afterwards which should be nice 😊 let us know how your next scan goes, finger crossed for lots of follicles 🤞🏻

I was told so - would be useful to check again.
You can, however, pay for the storage of any additional high-quality embryos that exceed the three-embryo limit from the treatment (if you are fortunate enough to have more than that!)

MrsBP15 · 31/10/2024 16:23

So this is a bit awkward and I feel so stupid but I’ve been taking the wrong dose of Progynova. I’ve been taking 8mg when I was meant to only be taking 6mg. My schedule said 6 but the instructions on the box said 4 a day (8mg) and ive only just noticed this on my schedule. I’ve got my scan tomorrow so I’ll obviously tell them then and see what they say but I wondered if anyone had some thoughts on this to put my mind at ease tonight. I’m really worried I’ve fucked this up 😔😖😢

OP posts:
Thatslifethatsit · 31/10/2024 16:46

@MrsBP15 do they have a number you can call? I know I previous had my doses increased (different drug) to try to get more follicles to grow
don’t panic it might not be an issue but worth calling to put your mind at rest?
@FondantEclair @Magix86 @Annie1306 my first nhs round I had no follicles big enough the clinic quietly let me pay for the drugs so I didn’t lose my round - I never asked about add ons and only really found out about them now I’m private and to be honest as I didn’t have them last time I’m not having them this time. Hoping this isn’t a mistake but kind of if it isn’t broke don’t fix it situation

MrsBP15 · 31/10/2024 16:52

Thank you @Thatslifethatsit progynova is taken for the uterine lining to prepare for transfer rather than follicles for egg collection. I’ve only taken three today so I’ll leave it at that and then ask at my scan tomorrow. It’s at 8am so thankfully early.

Thatslifethatsit · 31/10/2024 17:15

@MrsBP15 sorry have no experience of that drug but hopefully they can reassure you in the morning x

MrsBP15 · 01/11/2024 16:05

Thank you @Thatslifethatsit i had my scan this morning. My lining is currently measuring at 9mm so all good and on track. The clinic should be in touch today to let us know when we’ll go in for transfer. I should have been taking 3 tablets a day but it seems to all be fine and she’s told me to continue with four a day. The pessaries have to be five days before the transfer so we’ll see!

OP posts:
Thatslifethatsit · 01/11/2024 18:45

@MrsBP15 fantastic! Fingers crossed for transfer. pessaries are messy if put in number 1 if you put them in number 2 no mess that’s what my clinic told me - crucial info I was discussing with a friend recently

tpeas · 01/11/2024 19:27

Hi all been a while since I posted. Not a lot has happened for me as I'm still in downreg but something weird happened this morning in that I have a hard swelling at the injection site -but my injection was now 2.5 weeks ago. Called the clinic and they said to call back on Monday if it's still there. How is downreg going for you @CakePigeon30 ? @MrsBP15 hope things are going well for you. In answer to your earlier q I'm on long protocol so due to start stims in a week and a half now with first transfer pencilled in for last week of November.

Annie1306 · 01/11/2024 22:30

Hi all,

I had my first scan after taking ovaleap for 5 days. They could just see only one follicle of 12 mm and endo lining thickened to 7mm. I have a huge left ovary cyst of 5 cm in left ovary where they see the follicle but this was there earlier too. In right they couldn't see any follicle but cyst. They asked me to keep on taking ovaleap and start fyramodal on Sunday. My next scan is Monday. They said that follicle is good size and endo thickness is good so means that estrogen is getting produced meaning follicle is working. They said its good sign.

I am not sure what to expect but just trying to eb positive.

Confusedddddddd · 01/11/2024 23:08

@Annie1306 that's good if the follicle is doing something

Confusedddddddd · 01/11/2024 23:10

I feel like I'm so behind every, I don't start downregulation until I be if next week.

What are you all doing about telling work?

I'm in an awkward situation where I took a pretty huge promotion a few weeks ago, so new manager who I'd never met before and male this time and I just feel awkward about telling them. I've told him and few other people that I'm having a medical procedure at start of December but that's it.

MrsBP15 · 02/11/2024 09:56

@Thatslifethatsit i know! I’ve been seriously debating which hole to put the pessaries into 🤣 I might just see how I go, maybe alternate? God the things we have to think about!!😬

MrsBP15 · 02/11/2024 10:01

Good luck @Annie1306 got everything crossed for you and that you have success with your follicle. The fyramodal needle is a tiny bit bigger than the overleap so I got my husband to do that one (though I probably could have done it myself) he went in a little hot with the first one but was absolutely fine after that. Fingers crossed for you next week!

Hi all,

I should be starting my second round of IVF basically whenever my period starts. I had my first round in July/August, 2 eggs collected both fertilised, one made it to day 5 and was transferred but not successful unfortunately.

Hoping it comes before 01/12 as otherwise I will have to wait til after Christmas 🙁. My periods are generally v.irregular probably due to DOH but funnily enough the two cycles after the IVF were 28/29 days, so was hoping to start 10/11 ish but had an irregular bleed over the past few days (day 16 of this cycle) which I think will mess things up 😐.

Best of luck to everyone in your FET and IVF journeys I will continue to follow this thread and having done one cycle can maybe help support those on their first 🙂.

MrsBP15 · 02/11/2024 10:10

@Confusedddddddd hope you’re well and looking forward to getting started? I was really open with my work (my line manager and head of HR) pretty much from the start I.e a few weeks before starting everything. For me this has been really useful and they have been very good about appointments etc. I’ve since been signed off work for a few weeks and again, I think it was useful and under my reason I put “undergoing ivf treatment” again, I had a delayed transfer so this was useful as I needed them to know it wasn’t just done and dusted. Of course this is what worked for me and I’ve been pretty open about my journey generally as I’m a pretty open person and I found it made my life easier instead of trying to navigate keeping it secret. I’ve found people have been very understanding and as far as work is concerned they don’t really have choice. They don’t have a policy for me to stick to and they can’t have me turning round and saying “you added to my stress etc” so they kind of have to play ball. I think as women we are programmed to comply and just be grateful for what we can get especially when it comes to work but sometimes you have to put yourself first. We only get so many rolls of the dice 🎲 with this and I’m not willing to sacrifice my happiness for a job. As my friend said, you can get a job anytime, you can’t have a baby anytime! I realise what I’m saying all sounds very big but I guess I’ve just had to really consider this as I’ve been signed off. It’s all very individual of course, you just have to do what is right for you and only you will know what that is ❤️
