Hi all 👋

I have a failed first transfer (fresh) and have one embryo banked from my first retrieval.

I’ll be doing my first FET with it in March. Anyone else joining me for the wait?

I’m still waiting to find out what went wrong with my fresh transfer. Hopefully next time is the charm!

Thanks guys. All went well, seen the heartbeat and measuring exactly 7w1d 🥹. Just one baba, so glad we transferred two cause we might not be here now if we didn’t. So relieved ❤️.

ejtee · 22/04/2024 14:13

Congrats @JulesIVF , that’s lovely news 🥰

Copenhagener · 22/04/2024 15:44

@JulesIVF that’s such great news - congratulations! Must be such a weight off your mind.

Feeling a bit rubbish today.

I had my first midwife appointment and she got a bit short with me because we couldn’t agree on my ‘due date’. I told her my transfer day and the day I ovulated (as it was medicated with Ovitrelle) - and she kept saying it couldn’t be right (like I’d forget such a thing!) because it was too late in the cycle. It’s frustrating when midwives aren’t clued up on IVF pregnancies. She insisted I am a week later on than I am. FYI: transfer was March 25, she said I’m 8 weeks.

She also said I weighed too much, and I should consider cutting out carbs for a while, in case I get GD. I’ve never heard of it being recommended that women should diet / cut out core food groups during pregnancy. I’m a little overweight with my BMI (thanks IVF cycles and crazy bloating), but not obese, and I’m physically active. I’m struggling to eat much at all as it is with my nausea so now I feel pretty terrible.

I came away feeling like I’d done something wrong. For what it’s worth, my blood pressure and all my blood work came back totally normal.

Hope you’re all having a good week!

I had my scan today and saw the little heartbeat. It's such a relief, I was so worried before!

RibbetRibbetRibbet · 23/04/2024 20:16

@Copenhagener how rubbish!
I feel like the midwife should be making it as easy as possible for you and putting you at ease.

I have definitely put on a bit of weight through ivf- process. It's tough!

Remember that you deserve a big well done for getting through all the hormone drugs and emotional stress to get to this point <3 .
I don't think people who haven't gone through this know how tough it is.

ejtee · 24/04/2024 13:55

@Copenhagener sorry to hear you had that experience with your midwife. It sounds totally ridiculous! I can’t believe so was so rude and alarmist. It would be poor to handle it like that in any circumstance, but if your BMI isn’t even over 30, it’s ridiculous to be that concerned. Suggesting you cut out carbs is also highly questionable advice in pregnancy.

We definitely had annoying conflicting due dates due to ivf when my wife was pregnant. For some reason they seem to insist on calculating it from your period dates, which is just not accurate for an ivf cycle. The most significant issue this can present is if you go beyond your due date and begin to be pressured into an induction. Being a week out at that stage makes a big difference, so we had to stand our ground on that, and to be fair they did take that on board.

I hope your next appointment is better, but remember that if you are really not happy with your midwife, you can request someone else (typically).

ejtee · 24/04/2024 14:00

@RibbetRibbetRibbet that’s lovely news, congratulations 🥰 how many weeks are you now?

I still have nearly 2 weeks to wait for my scan, and it’s making me so anxious. It’s such a conflicting feeling isn’t it? I’m so excited, but also terrified of things going wrong. Wish I could just go and lie on a beach and nap in the sunshine for the duration rather than having loads of work to do 😂

RibbetRibbetRibbet · 24/04/2024 14:50

@ejtee thanks :) I'm just under 8 weeks now.
Your worrying sounds exactly the same as mine!

I am trying to be more zen now even though there is no end of things I could worry about.

ejtee · 24/04/2024 15:54

That sounds like a good plan @RibbetRibbetRibbet I’m hoping I’ll manage to be a little less neurotic if the initial scan goes to plan.

Runner77 · 25/04/2024 02:39

@RibbetRibbetRibbet and @JulesIVF brilliant news! So happy for you both. How are you feeling?

@Copenhagener that sounds like a really disappointing experience for what should have been a joyous appointment. Hopefully you can see someone different next time. Seems like the midwife was just reading straight from the playbook without any flexibility or compassion.

Copenhagener · 25/04/2024 11:38

@RibbetRibbetRibbet congratulations!

I also have good news: we have a heartbeat! I burst out crying when she told me. Felt so embarrassed afterwards, but it feels like I’ve been holding my breath since transfer day. Got a little photo too.

Measuring at 7+1 precisely. I can’t stop tearing up 🥹

@Copenhagener lovely news, congratulations! : )

It’s such an emotional moment, no wonder tears are right at the surface!

RibbetRibbetRibbet · 25/04/2024 13:48

Congratulations @Copenhagener !
Tears are normal I hope!!
Congratulations @JulesIVF too!

@Runner77 I have been feeling a bit worse the past couple of days days but I haven't thrown up yet! Is anyone else getting really hungry? I can see NHS says I don't need any more calories at the moment but that isn't what it feels like!

Runner77 · 26/04/2024 04:19

@Copenhagener Yes!! So happy for you.
It’s such a special moment.

@RibbetRibbetRibbet hope you start to feel better soon. I haven’t really felt any hungrier than normal but the tiredness has probably taken over some of my appetite.

Had my first appointment with our obstetrician this morning and got to hear the heart beat (there was no audio on our first scan). I picked someone who also works with IVF patients so she was really understanding and reassuring. Back in two weeks for a blood test and another scan.

Hope everyone is doing well x

Copenhagener · 07/05/2024 10:39

@ejtee is your scan today? Good luck!

How is everyone else doing? I've been super nauseous and hate the sight of food, but no vomiting luckily.

I had my double-test blood test yesterday (they recommend to do it as soon as possible after 8 weeks here) so just waiting on the results of that. Has anyone else had theirs yet? Neck-fold test isn't until 12 weeks though.

Also going for a private reassurance scan at the weekend as I'll be going on holiday in May, and I'd like a status check before I fly.

ejtee · 07/05/2024 18:51

Thanks @Copenhagener, yes it was, and all is well with our little baby so far 🥰 measuring exactly 7 weeks as it should be, and a good heartbeat. I’m incredibly relieved. Despite having loads of symptoms, I’d convinced myself of the worst. Probably a self preservation attempt at some level, but we’re absolutely delighted and hoping that is enough reassurance to reduce the anxiety for a while at least.

Also relieved it wasn’t twins! 😅I’ve been feeling absolutely exhausted and increasingly nauseous, so was a bit worried that might have meant both embryos had stuck. I’m sure that would have been wonderful in lots of ways, but massively overwhelming!

I have my midwife booking in appointment on Monday, so hoping that goes ok.

Has everyone had their 12 week scan dates through yet?

RibbetRibbetRibbet · 07/05/2024 23:28

Congratulations @ejtee I'm so happy for you!

I haven't had my 12 week scan date yet, apparently it will come in a letter to my house.
I had my first midwife appointment on Friday but she couldn't get any blood from my veins for the blood test so I had to go to the hospital today. The nurse had real difficulty and it took about 15 mins and lots of needles in different places, being jostled around to find a vein. I'm glad she got enough though. It's always been difficult for me to have blood tests! I have two big bruises on my arms now.

@Copenhagener I have been feeling nauseous too but not thrown up yet. Maybe tmi but I spent a really long time on the toilet earlier feeling horrible, has anyone else had anything similar?

Copenhagener · 08/05/2024 09:42

I just got the double blood part of the screening test back, and I feel quite anxious about the results.

Free HCG was 0.33 MoM and Papp-A was 0.55 MoM. (Average MoM is 1 for both).

It’s inconclusive without the NT/neck fold part, but I need to wait until week 12 for that - so a whole 3 weeks away. We get sent results online, but no explanation.

It seems okay from a Downs perspective, but now I’m concerned about Trisomy 13/18 which I know are correlated to combined low scores on the double test. I know they are rare conditions, especially at my age, but they’re still possible. I can’t find much about them online, as mostly the focus is on Downs.

I just felt like I could relax and now I’m stressed again. I barely slept last night and now I’m second-guessing going to the reassurance scan at the weekend. I don’t want to get attached if it’s bad news - and they won’t be able to tell me anything there. It needs to be at the hospital at 12 weeks.

@RibbetRibbetRibbet sorry about the blood taking experience - that sounds awful!

@ejtee my 12 week scanned is booked in already, I got a notification saying it’s 28 May.

ejtee · 08/05/2024 10:41

Thanks @RibbetRibbetRibbet 🙂

Sorry to hear about the difficulty with bloods - that’s really unpleasant! I’m not normally too bad with bloods, but I’m feeling the cold so much more in pregnancy that I suspect I might have similar issues with my veins hiding away.

I’ve started to feel quite nauseous this week, and have also had a dodgy guts on and off. Seems to be my version of morning sickness. It’s probably preferable to throwing up, but still makes me feel awful and not easy being out and about!

@Copenhagener sorry you’ve got an added stress with the blood results. It seems really irresponsible to give results without an explanation and leave people to worry trying to figure it out. I hope you can get some answers soon.

Runner77 · 08/05/2024 12:28

Good to hear your updates ladies. @ejtee great news re the scan. It’s so incredible seeing the heartbeat.

@RibbetRibbetRibbet ouch, that sounds uncomfortable. Have you tried drinking a lot of water before a blood test?

@Copenhagener that sounds like a stressful situation. Is there any other doctors or specialists that you could contact for some clarity? I haven’t heard of that type of blood test before. I have a blood test on Monday (assuming the scan looks ok) at 10 weeks called the ‘harmony’ non invasive prenatal test, which checks the fetal dna circulating in the mother’s blood stream. It’s meant to be highly accurate. Is this something which is available for you?

Copenhagener · 11/05/2024 11:57

Hi ladies,

A bit of a long one.

Had my 9+3 (private) scan to check the pregnancy is ongoing. Luckily, we saw our little guy, even moving a tiny bit. Ultrasound technician did say at this point the neck fold looks small/normal (but it’s very early days) and baby looks okay.

Had a couple of worry points too, unfortunately. The ultrasound technician said heartbeat was on the high side (182-185) which can be a sign of trisomy 13 in particular, and that I was measuring 9+1 according to her measurements - my first scan places me at 9+3. It’s not a big difference, and the heart rate may well come down soon, but combined with my low bloods for hcg/Papp-A (she said she wouldn’t comment on them without the neck fold scan completed, nor would my doctor), I’m a bit concerned. It seems more and more likely my results will come back high risk.

I’m able to get a NIPT test from Thursday next week if I want privately. However, it’ll cost around £500, and I’ll get the results around the same day I have my neck fold scan at the hospital. And then, if there are abnormalities, they would anyway give me a NIPT (paid-for) that day. But then I’ll need to wait another 5-7 days for results - and I’ll actually be on holiday abroad during that period. If I do it next week, I’ll have the results beforehand and could potentially act more quickly if needs be.

In my shoes, would you get the early private NIPT, or wait for the hospital neck fold/12 week ultrasound/risk assessment? Trisomy 13/18 are often visible on the scan at this point visually. That said, I know NIPT is more accurate than the combined test, and I’m SO incredibly anxious at this point and even feel a little detached from the pregnancy. Money isn’t really a problem, more the waiting and anxiety and not wanting to do things twice.

I hope all of you are feeling more chill in your pregnancies and don’t get any high risk results!

Runner77 · 11/05/2024 12:52

@Copenhagener So sorry to hear that you’re feeling really anxious and worried. If the financial side isn’t too much of a concern, I would personally progress with having the NIPT. It will be absolutely worth it if it can provide earlier reassurance. I understand the anxiety that comes from waiting, and the uncertainty of whether things are going to be ok. I’ve been waiting 2 weeks for my next scan and it honestly feels like 2 months.

Its2024happynewyear · 11/05/2024 15:35

Hi @CopenhagenerI'm sorry to hear you're going through this worry. Do you think that, if the results from the scan come back as low risk, you'd feel satisfied with that? Or would you still want the extra reassurance? I know when I had some potentially worrying news in my pregnancy I felt I needed that certainty in order to be able to relax again. I'd personally go for the private NIPT - I know how every day of worrying can feel like torture. Wishing you lots of luck xxx

Its2024happynewyear · 11/05/2024 18:06

Also - I don't think 185 is much above average for 9 weeks. Maybe baby was picking up that you were a bit nervous 🥰
