IVF sibling round support

itsmschanandlerbong · 24/03/2023 16:16

Just wondered if there would be any interest in setting up a support thread for those of us thinking about a sibling round. This could very much be a 'me' issue but I feel a bit awkward sometimes posting in other threads, it's a bit like being stuck between being very lucky and fortunate having had a successful round, but also struggling with the challenges of having to go through it all over again. I've found it difficult to know my place in this community now.

So yeah, is anyone else trying or thinking about trying for their sibling round yet? Ill post a comment with our story.

@beachbum85 Just wanted to check in and see how you’re doing? Hope you’re having a good break and wishing you all the luck 🍀 for OTD x

beachbum85 · 20/04/2024 17:35

Ohhh thanks @2mumlife ! I'm well thanks, swinging between super chill and counting down the hours 😅 I'm in a v dangerous headspace thinking that this could have worked so I hope everything won't come crashing down tomorrow and I can say I'm still hoping to live your sister's nightmare 😄

Thanks @daisypizza all positive thoughts most welcome!

I'll update you ladies tomorrow either way. Really appreciate the support, thank you! xxx

2mumlife · 20/04/2024 18:35

Overlyanxious · 21/04/2024 00:38

@beachbum85 keeping everything crossed for you

beachbum85 · 21/04/2024 06:51

Thank you! It's a BFP!!! I didn't think it would feel so surreal a second time round... Over the moon and can't really believe it!

2mumlife · 21/04/2024 07:54

@beachbum85 That’s amazing news! It’s so funny I had such a feeling you were in this place of calm and zen that it was going to be a BFP. Congratulations!!!

beachbum85 · 21/04/2024 09:54

Thank you!!! I was actually feeling very similar to how I did when we tested with my son, which kept me calm and positive, but you never know if it's all mind games, so tempted is really what I'm feeling this morning!

daisypizza · 21/04/2024 12:28

Ah @beachbum85 that is amazing news, fabulous to hear that it has worked and so nice that you’re in the same place to do the test as when your previous BFP.
Congratulations!

2mumlife · 21/04/2024 13:58

@beachbum85 Hope you get a date for viability scan soon 🤞

Overlyanxious · 21/04/2024 15:28

@beachbum85 that's amazing - congratulations

beachbum85 · 21/04/2024 16:09

Thank you so much @daisypizza and @Overlyanxious ! I hope the positives keep coming on this thread for everyone waiting to transfer xxx

@2mumlife the nurse said they'll be in touch to schedule it next week, and it should be in about 3 weeks time. The next countdown will soon begin!

2mumlife · 22/04/2024 12:20

@beachbum85 Hope you get your next scan date soon and that the next TWW (three week wait!) goes quickly x

Had my 16 week midwife appointment this morning. Was disappointed they didn't do a heartbeat check - was really just a chat about birth and feeding plan. Was useful though as got a bit more info about some practicalities about homebirths and got officially booked in to the homebirth team on-call roster, so just hoping now that it works out

charliegirl77 · 22/04/2024 16:06

@beachbum85 congratulations. How exciting.

beachbum85 · 23/04/2024 09:58

Thank you so much @charliegirl77 .
How are you doing? I hope you're as well as can be given the chemical xxx

Thanks @2mumlife - scan has been booked for 9 May! Did a digital test this morning and it says 2-3w which is what I would expect, so that's a bit reassuring while I wait for that.
Ah that's a shame that you didn't get the full check - you'd think it's a relatively quick/easy thing to do that they'd always do a heartbeat check?! Great news about getting booked in for a home birth! Did you have a home birth with your daughter too?

Greetings to everyone else too!

2mumlife · 23/04/2024 13:42

@beachbum85 ooo 9th may isn’t long, and great you are getting 2-3 weeks, will you test with a digital again in a week or so to see it move to 3+? Any symptoms yet?

I had a hospital birth / alongside midwifery unit birth last time. I considered home birth but felt a bit too anxious about not knowing how I’d cope with birth to do it. With DD I laboured at home with a TENS machine and was 7cm dilated by the time I went to hospital, but I found the getting to hospital part and getting triaged and wait to get into a birthing room really disruptive to labour and everything really slowed down. Laboured in birthing pool for ages but then had some meconium so had to get out to push and had a long pushing stage, so ended up having a non-emergency forceps delivery. So this time I’d rather just stay at home if I can as think it will be less disruptive than moving to hospital, and I managed fine with TENS, birth pool and gas and air with DD (only had pain relief when they told me not to push when waiting for space in theatre to do the forceps delivery). Midwife was very reassuring that if I could labour at home until I was 7cm that there was no reason I couldn’t deliver at home this time and was reassuring that even with having forceps last time was a good chance they wouldn’t be needed this time 🤞🤞🤞

beachbum85 · 25/04/2024 09:25

@2mumlife wow! well done for labouring at home with just a TENS machine and to 7cm 💪🏼 I'm no expert but sounds to me like you could definitely handle a home birth. I really hope you get to that that - it's great that your midwife was reassuring as I hear they often push back!

I'm constantly either starving or bloated, which is not like me especially in the morning, so that, sore boobs, and random pulls in my belly are my symptoms so far. Last time round I started feeling sick daily from almost 6w in so I'm hoping that's not coming up next 🤞🏼🤞🏼
I'll test every couple of days (mix of normal and digital) till I get to 3+. Today's test was visibly darker so hopefully everything is doing what it should in there!

2mumlife · 25/04/2024 17:16

@beachbum85 Midwife told me to have a chat with bump and tell it to come during the day for better staffing 😂 Sounds like everything is going great. Hope nausea doesn’t kick in too badly as I found it more challenging this time around with a toddler x

Bobbin83 · 26/04/2024 07:33

Hi everyone, sorry for the complete radio silence from me, I tested positive from our recent FET and I’m 6 weeks 5 days today. I was really struggling with anxiety and just didn’t want to say anything to anyone for risk of it going badly like last time. However we had a scan yesterday at the clinic and we saw a heartbeat 💓 which was very reassuring. I’m dated slightly out which has of course worried me as with IVF you know the dates I was 6 + 4 yesterday at the scan he dated me at first 6 + 1 then said 6 then said somewhere in between that so I was worried but they he said this is within date range and we don’t worry anything +~ 5 days so I’m trying not to worry right now but it’s hard. Also with the heartbeat he just said it looks good but didn’t tell me BPM so I just have to accept that he thought it looked fast enough I suppose, I can’t remember with my son if we were given that at the early scan? Anyway as we had an early scan due to the miscarriage last time they have offered another one week later before discharging us. I want to feel happy that we have got this far but the measurements are niggling in the back of my mind, am I being silly about this? Talk me down please 🥴😬🙈

@beachbum85 I see you just had your positive test!! Congratulations such amazing news 🎉

lots of love to everyone wherever you are in this journey xx

beachbum85 · 26/04/2024 09:46

Hey @Bobbin83 so nice to see you again and to hear your amazing news! Congratulations!! I can totally understand the anxiety and worry, but so great that you've seen a heartbeat and I definitely wouldn't worry about the dating being a couple of days off (easy to say from the outside, I know, but we're talking mm at this point). Glad to hear you've got another scan coming up, hopefully that will offer further reassurance 😊

Thank you so much!
@2mumlife last time I spent 8 months talking to bump to try and convince him to come 22/5/22 (I have a bit of number OCD)... needless to say it didn't work but it's always worth a try!😅
I really hope the nausea doesn't kick in or isn't too bad too. I found it hard to cope last time without a toddler! 🤞🏼🤞🏼 Although now I know that feeling sick every single day for weeks is not normal and I would probably take something for it if it had to happen this time...

Hi and hugs to everyone xxx

2mumlife · 26/04/2024 12:21

@Bobbin83 Congratulations! Amazing to see the heartbeat 💓 we never found out bpm with any of our early scans. I still haven’t got to hear heartbeat at 16 weeks

@beachbum85 haha these stubborn bumps! Got a mind of their own. Hopefully you won’t feel so bad this time 🤞

Feeling a bit meh today, DP was away at a course so took a friend down to visit their (the friends) parents and stayed with them 1 night going down and went back to stay with them last night before due to drive back home tomorrow. But the friend went off to hospital yesterday as they think they’re having a miscarriage at 6 weeks. It was a bit of a surprise as we knew they were tying IVF but had said their cycle went very badly and impression we got was there was nothing to transfer and they were doing embryo banking for embryo testing so not sure what’s going on. Feel terrible for them and feeling very protective over my pregnancy again today. Bit awkward for DP who is just trying to stay out the way and obviously doesn’t want to pry and ask questions whilst friend goes to the hospital again with their mother today to a different hospital (I assume to get a scan to see if there is a heartbeat or not)

beachbum85 · 26/04/2024 14:55

@2mumlife ugh that's a really sad situation for your friend, although here's hoping it will still turn out well for them, and also really unsettling for your DP and yourself. Sending hugs xxx

I just had the tiniest bit of pink discharge when going to the loo. I haven't had that before, has anyone else? I know it could be that the progesterone pessaries are irritating the cervix, but my mind is going in all directions right now...

2mumlife · 27/04/2024 07:51

@beachbum85 Id try not to worry. I’ve had bleeding in the first ~ 8 weeks with both pregnancies. With DD I had heavy bleeding from a SCH. With this pregnancy I had a couple of instances of light bleeding, no identifiable course, and everything was ok. If you’re worried reach out to your clinic - mine moved our viability scan forward by 1 week for reassurance and still saw heartbeat (even though they said they couldn’t garauntee seeing heartbeat that early)

beachbum85 · 27/04/2024 08:54

Thank you @2mumlife ! I spent all evening yd running to and from the loo but it seems like it was a 1-off 🤞🏼🤞🏼 got 3+ on the digital test this morning so I'm feeling OK about it all and will stop testing now and wait for the scan in a couple of weeks... Unless it happens again, then I'll definitely call the clinic as you suggested.

How are you feeling today? And your DP? Are they back home? I hope things turn out well for your friend. I was thinking it must have been quite strange if they said they were trying IVF but didn't give the full update (fair enough of course) but then DP was driving them and spending the night with their parents too... Either way, I hope it's good news for them xxx

Overlyanxious · 27/04/2024 11:59

@Bobbin83 congratulations that's great and yes try not to worry about the dating on the scan

@beachbum85 I know a little bleeding can be quite common but hope it doesn't happen again as not good for anxiety.

@2mumlife I hope your DP's friend is all ok.

2mumlife · 27/04/2024 14:10

@beachbum85 Glad everything has settled down for you and 3+ is a very good sign. You can also phone your local EPU but I think vast majority of EPUs won’t see you before 6 weeks (unless it might be an ectopic pregnancy I think) because they aren’t going to be able to detect heartbeat either way.

They are still travelling back. Was confirmed yesterday it is a miscarriage ☹️ think it’s been quite a quiet journey back in the car today which is totally understandable. Yeah it’s all a bit strange as they asked a lot of questions before starting ivf, and didn’t really want to talk about how their cycle went which I thought was fair enough if it had gone badly and was still really fresh emotionally. Just timing is really strange as they were doing ivf to avoid a known genetic issue on male side, and I didn’t think they got any day 5 embryos from what was said, but even if they had I don’t think there was enough time for it to have been tested and done a FET, but also too long a time since their cycle for them to have put back eg a day 3 embryo if they thought none were going to make it. I guess they might not want to talk about change in decision around the genetics if they’ve decided that they are willing to TTC naturally / put back an untested embryo. Who knows. Not the time anyway to be asking questions. It’s just made me feel more grateful that worst I’ve experienced is a CP and wish even more I could just feel this baby move already as I feel like then you get your little daily reassurances - at 16 weeks with second baby I was hoping I would feel movements by now. I’ve felt I couple things that feel like it could be big summersaults, but not sure if that’s just me willing to feel it move already. I’ve got another cervix check on the 9th May so at least I’ll get to have another quick spy on baby then if I’m still not feeling it
