Hi,
After 2 years TTC #1 we are now eventually on the IVF bus! Should have started in June but Covid put a stop to that and after lots of back/forth with our NHS clinic we've got our treatment planning appointment on Friday and will be on the long protocol so probably starting mid- end of December!
Would love to have some ladies join me!
I've been creeping on other IVF threads but haven't been able to fully take part.

Hi can I join? I'm 31, and about to start my first round of ivf, will be on a short protocol and having a frozen transfer. Also having icsi. I have pcos and partner low sperm count. Finish taking northisterone Wednesday and then wait for a bleed!

Nervous but excited and nice to see a thread going with women around about the same timeline, don't really have anyone irl to talk to about this so I'm grateful for Mumsnet !

beachbum85 · 16/11/2020 17:26

That's exciting @Kiza!! Have you told your work about needing time off for scans and everything?

We just completed the consent forms electronically and have received appointments for (another) SA and (yet another) ultrasound, apart from the appointment mid-December. I haven't really understood the process, and it is quite overwhelming, but I'm so grateful for everyone sharing their stories here - it really helps

Kiza · 16/11/2020 17:43

@beachbum85 yes I have but I work for CAMHS so patients are booked in my clinic diary up to 2-3 weeks in advance. I'm going to have to be honest with the families I work with and explain that I'm undergoing medical treatment so their appointments will be cancelled/rescheduled last minute. I don't want to do it but I can't see any other option? And given how mental health currently is with young people it's going to be a hard conversation to have with a number of families as they are often in crisis and often don't see us clinicians as real people with our own real problems.
I hear you with the confusing appointments and not fully understanding process as so many clinics do things differently.

@LJM83 that's good that you have a timeline and I like the sound of a more natural approach, feel free to stay on this thread but we won't take offence if you choose to leave and join a Feb thread.
Welcome to the group @cosmo30

@Kisa that does sound hard but there isn't much you can do - I hope they understand as it's really up to our bodies' reactions at that point. And I'm sure you don't need added work stress on top of everything else, important as the families you work with are.

Once I know what timings might be like, I'm going to have to tell my line manager and maybe some teammates why I might not be joining our meetings without much notice. We have a very good working relationship but I'm really not looking forward to talking about this with them. Haven't even told my parents yet :/

Beaglemum91 · 16/11/2020 19:43

@Kiza glad I'm not the only one worrying about long journeys! Our clinic is an hour and a half each way but I'm hoping some of the scans can be done at one of their clinics an hour away. I dont mind too much as I'm used to driving for work...well was! And it will be worth it.

@beachbum85 I told my work today. I have 2 managers I normally work with, one being my line manager that signs off holidays and absence. They were both great about it, really understanding and just said that this is the priority and not to worry about work or missing meetings. They both wished me the best and said to let them know what I needed as I found more out. Fortunately I work from home so can be flexible with my hours, but I also manage projects and wanted to let them know ahead of time so I dont get put forward for anything ove rrhe next few months. They were both brilliant and have really put my mind at ease. All I did was explain to them that we were going to have IVF, that it would mean me having lots of medical appointments over the time we get treatment and that it will be last minute absences etc. I also let them know it was far away as it would be a 3hr round trip each time, so I'd need more time off. My company are very pro well being so I wasnt worried about telling them. My DH however isn't sure how to tell work as he works shifts and is American and used to people saying no (he was once admitted to hospital in the US and his manager told him he was using his holiday to cover it and he only got 10 days a year at the time!).

GingerBrummie · 16/11/2020 19:45

Hi ladies,
May I join? Very useful thread. My first app is 16th Dec to go thru my plan although I know its long protocol down reg. Its NHS & my first after 2.5 yrs TTC # 1. Im 38 & DH is 47, unexplained infertility. Im fine with needles, just want to have this whole TTC business behind me! Good luck everyone.

Kiza · 16/11/2020 20:06

Hi @GingerBrummie going by your username I think we live in the same city! Are you at Birmingham Women's hospital?

@Beaglemum91 if only we lived closer to our clinics! That's great that your company are so supportive, awful experience for your partner though! Does he now work for an English company? If so I hope they are more understanding.

We got a call today saying my meds are coming tomorrow! They are inducing a bleed as my cycle is irregular at best, but pending a period starting by the 3rd December, we're starting our first cycle then.

My OH is far too excited to help with the injections 😂

Bells3032 · 16/11/2020 20:28

@onlyhereforthefood

I also got the call today and they're being delivered tomorrow. Although we will probably wait til January as think we'll miss the pre christmas cut off unless my period comes early. But it'll hopefully be there ready for a January start

My husband is going a hit pale at the thought of all the meds I will have to take for his sake. I don't know what he'll be like tomorrow

onlyhereforthefood · 16/11/2020 20:31

@Bells3032 if I don't get a period before 3/12 then we'll be January too, keeping everything crossed for us both!

Beaglemum91 · 16/11/2020 20:44

@GingerBrummie welcome! Its so nice to have people in the same position isn't it?

@Kiza yes, he moved here almost a year ago so he's finding out employment laws and company ethics in general over here are so much better! I dont think he can believe how big a different it is working over here.

GingerBrummie · 16/11/2020 20:51

Hi @Kiza I moved to London many years ago so slightly confusing username!

A friend of mine who had IVF twice successfully a few years ago said just take it stage by stage otherwise its too daunting. Eg, dont thing about EC before down regging! Hopefully that helps us somewhat.

beachbum85 · 17/11/2020 00:42

Fingers crossed for both of you @onlyhereforthefood and @Bells3032 - looks like you're leading the pack and you've got all of us cheering for you Smile
Hi @GingerBrummie, I'm in London too!

@Beaglemum91 thanks a lot for sharing the positive outcome and support from your work - it does put my more at ease. I understand your DH though as I work for an American organisation with HR in the US and, even though they're thinking more about well-being with the pandemic, they're so different from here! I'm going to try stay optimistic and remember that my boss and teammates are here in the UK and I think (and hope) they'll be as understanding as your managers

Freya2015 · 17/11/2020 07:12

@onlyhereforthefood and @Bells3032 how long did it take for meds to come ? Our nurse appt is on Tuesday

Bells3032 · 17/11/2020 07:18

Our nurse appt was last Tues but they didn't sent the script til friday

onlyhereforthefood · 17/11/2020 07:23

@freya2015 our nurse appt was a couple of weeks ago and meds are coming today,
I think that's less usual though, but we had to wait for the genetics side of things to be ready (some kind of probe) before they sent out of meds so the process can line up.

Freya2015 · 17/11/2020 08:35

@Bells3032 thank you mine is on Tuesday but I don't think I will start till January.

@onlyhereforthefood oh okay hope everything goes well for you

I am excited but really scared about this whole process.

Bells3032 · 17/11/2020 08:52

Ah they just arrived... Not as big a box as I was expecting

Freya2015 · 17/11/2020 09:08

@Bells3032 when will you start soo excited for you!!!!!!!!!
are you on long or short protocol

Bells3032 · 17/11/2020 09:13

@Freya2015 probably not til January but figured we'd get it delivered just in case my period comes early.

On short protocol

Ellsiedodah · 17/11/2020 13:25

Hi all, another one for Jan IVF here. Would love to join your little community! @Bells3032 I'm sympathising with your house move... we've got the same headache. Currently debating the exchange date... turns out the sellers had a totally different idea (like March?!!). Meanwhile we're moving to a totally different part of England so I'm trying to work out where to do my a/consultation b/tests c/treatment! But it will be with one of these big alliances that have bases in several places. @Kiza, I'm joining your low amh club too please! I'm 38 and have an AMH of 1.1 :( ... has dropped from 8 3 years ago when I had my son by IUI. I've been on a program of weight gain and a shit ton of supplements... but with the house move and renovation prior to that I've got a body full of paint chippings, alcohol and copious amounts of caffeine. Yay!

winnie3838 · 17/11/2020 14:08

Hi all, sorry i have been M.I.A since my first post - welcome everyone who has since joined and good luck with your next steps.

I am currently 5 days in to my down regulation drugs (i'm on long protocol), it's a nasal spray which leave a slightly nasty taste in your mouth - so far no side effects, but it's still early days. I have my first scan next Thurs to check the down regulation drugs are working before i start the stims. Feeling very overwhelmed and anxious now.

Interesting to hear a few of you have a similar AMH to me (mine was 5.5pmol) but you all had an AFC of 9. My count was just 5 and i am wondering whether my AMH is actually lower than that. Very nervous about how many eggs they will actually be able to retrieve and then how many if any will be viable due to my endometriosis and age. Trying to stay positive!

Freya2015 · 17/11/2020 14:58

@Bells3032 oh okay same I am on short protocol too but my periods are irregular

Bells3032 · 17/11/2020 15:01

@Freya2015 mine are still a bit all over the place as i only came off the coil at the start of september so no idea if it'll come early or late or whatever. But ready for December or January start though more likely to be Feb at this rate

Ellsiedodah · 17/11/2020 15:32

@winnie3838 sending hugs and best wishes it all goes smoothly. Don't worry too much about the amh... a study of women up to 43 I think showed amh was irrelevant in success rates! I'm clinging to that too! But sure enough it does make.me feel disappointed i won't be harvesting loads they can choose from... but if egg quality good then it shouldn't matter. Sending positive vibes to your eggies
