@Jane1284 It’s really interesting how our cases are so similar? This is why I love these threads because there was a point in the last few months when I thought we must be the only couple with low AMH/AFC plus morphology issues!

So my husband had his sperm analysis done 2 years ago with the NHS and they told us it was all good and nothing to worry about (we didn’t receive the actual report. They just told us over the phone that all was good). After 2 wasted years we started doing a our own research and found out that there’s a lot more to sperm analysis than just ‘All good’. So we contacted the NHS and asked the report to be emailed to us. When we received it, we noticed that morphology is 3%. It says normal is above 4%. We were really frustrated that this wasn’t mentioned to us 2 years ago? It’s not for them to decide whether this is a big deal or not. It might be a minor factor on its own but if you have multiple minor factors your chances of getting pregnant dramatically decreases.

Luckily at that point we were 3 months into a much healthier diet and my husband did another sperm analysis (with our IVF clinic) which showed morphology at 5% (phew!) which means it’s possible to improve it! All his other parameters improved significantly as well (although they were normal to start with).

So the good thing about MFI is that in most cases it can be fixed. Our clinic still want us to do ICSI (due to our history with low morphology) but they’ll decide on the day whether we definitely need it or not

Xxx

@81Poppy my AMH is 31 and I have just turned 42 so that's very high for my age! They are expecting a decent number of eggs I think but no guarantee re embryos of course!

81Poppy · 30/10/2020 18:51

Thanks @dragonfly1978 that's a great number!

BrandyM · 30/10/2020 19:00

Oh wow @dragonfly1978 that's a great number. Hope the menopure injections is going well? I hear they can sting a bit. How are you finding it? Xx

BrandyM · 30/10/2020 19:01

dragonfly1978 · 30/10/2020 19:04

@BrandyM menopur was fine, didn't feel a thing actually thank goodness!!

Birdladybird · 30/10/2020 20:14

Hello Ladies, i'd like to join you all if thats ok. I've previously jumped in and out of different threads but something always delayed our treatment!

I'm in France so here you can have 3 cycles on the healthcare system free up to the age of 43. My DH had a vasectomy before meeting me, had it reversed in 2017 but his count is very low. Been trying since with nothing happening. I've had all the tests and everything looks good for me. We were supposed to start FIV in march but covid shut the clinics down. Luckily for me, with the new lock down starting today, FIV can still go ahead!! Great timing for me personally as my business is closed so i'll miss no work and be completely flexible and relaxed for the treatment.

I'm struggling with all the lingo, i'm finding it hard with everything in french Confused and my doctor is lovely but doesn't explain everything very in depth, or goes so fast i lose concentration.

I think i'm doing the short protocol as i'm currently taking 'provames' with is estrogen. I'm waiting for (late) AF then i have to ring the clinic and she will see me on day 3 to scan and ill start injecting. Only inject for 9 days though before egg collection around 12-14th november. I really have no idea. I suppose after the first round i'll know how its going to work.

Picked up all my drugs from the pharmacy last week (2 huge carrier bags!!). The bill was €808 but i only had to pay €2.69 Grin as the rest was covered by social security.

I'm really hoping i'll learn somethings from you ladies. I'll try to pay attention!!

Birdladybird · 30/10/2020 20:24

Sorry that is so long!

ivfhope3 · 30/10/2020 20:36

@BrandyM @dragonfly1978 hey beauties. I'm ok thank you just trying to keep busy an not think about it. I don't know how I feel. I called doctor yesteday but haven't heard anything.
I'm sorry for flying off on one xx

But do you know you know I've never carved a pumking an look what I've done
I'm actually so pleased with myself lol

How is everyone I'm going to sit tonight an hour through

I've been a bit selfish an self centred the last few weeks I'm so sorry

Sending lots of love and hugs your way xxx

Rachae · 31/10/2020 08:14

Hey everyone, I've read a few messages on AMH and wondered what this is please? When would I find out my number and what would that mean? Thanks xx

BrandyM · 31/10/2020 08:35

Hi @Rachae hello 👋🏽

AMH stands for Anti Mullerian Hormone. It’s a hormone the body releases naturally.

The body releases more of it if you have a lot of egg reserve left. It releases less if your egg reserve is running out.

It’s therefore a good indicator of how many eggs you’re left with in your body.

They'd do blood test to find out what the AMH level is and if the number is low, it tells you and your IVF consultant to expect few eggs during egg collection.

It’s one of the hardest infertility diagnosis to receive as there’s no known way of increasing AMH as it simply declines with age.

BrandyM · 31/10/2020 08:38

@Rachae Have you had your first baseline scan done already and know your number of follicles or not yet?

Rachae · 31/10/2020 08:46

Thanks for the info! Smile I guess I just don't understand all the terminology or the process. I'm 3 weeks into it now so I must have had a baseline scan but they didn't write anything down for me. I have my first check Wednesday and I understand that to mean if the Buserlin has worked in shutting down my system and I can do menopure for 2 weeks before EC.

I think I remember the consultant saying something about my something being on the high side and I might get a lot of bloating... This might have been AMH? Said that it was just on the cusp of being a problem and used an acronym of a syndrome I could get. It began with O. Yikes I'm terrible at listening! Xx

Rachae · 31/10/2020 08:49

Ohh I just googled it and the acronym she said was OHSS

BrandyM · 31/10/2020 09:00

@Rachae, if you're at risk of OHSS, then it'd be because she saw a larger number of follicles during the scan which means high AMH which is really good!!

Therefore, large number of follicles means you don't need to do AMH test and so this is not something you need to worry about. You're very lucky!

Rachae · 31/10/2020 09:02

Oh gosh! Thanks @BrandyM well there's some hope Smile xx

BrandyM · 31/10/2020 09:18

Yes there's definitely good chances of success for you @Rachae (all other factors being constant).

Honestly low AMH is one of the worst diagnosis to receive from a fertility point of view. There's just nothing you can do to increase it and it often indicates low IVF success rate.

So if sometimes you feel a bit low about the whole IVF journey take comfort in knowing that at least you've got good egg reserves and time is on your side.

Have they told you what your cause of sub-fertility is (if you don't mind me asking) or is it unexplained? Xx

ivfhope3 · 31/10/2020 09:20

Guess what everyone I've think we may have a period... I think this maybe it..

I will keep updated anyone that has followed my period journey well all my journey lol..

Jane1284 · 31/10/2020 09:31

@ivfhope3 Wonderful news! So happy to hear that x

Rachae · 31/10/2020 09:56

@ivfhope3 that's brilliant news! Smile
@BrandyM it's a confusing one to be honest... We tried to conceive for 2 years and then got on the IVF register. (No real problems found but I was 34 so they decided IVF)
As soon as we had our first consultation, I fell naturally pregnant. Sadly, I went onto have 3 miscarriages in a row up until February this year. I turned 35 in June and they offered me IVF again as I was still on the list.
Not sure if IVF will prevent a miscarriage again.. But my hope is that someone is actually looking at our embryos (if we get that far)... And so surely that's a better chance than pot luck of one egg coming out per normal cycle. I'm also ruling out the possibility of the cause of my miscarriages being a 'bad egg'. They haven't found any cause so far and said I was in the less than 1% of the country who has 3 in a row. Xx

Jane1284 · 31/10/2020 09:58

@BrandyM wow your story really is so similar to mine. Low AMH and exact same 3% morphology which the NHS said was fine but then google said was low. He gave a new sample on Thursday so hopefully things have improved in the last few months. If it hasn't then we can always do ICSI but ideally we will avoid that as when we go private costs will start adding up.

I was feeling a bit disheartened last week when I realised how crap only having 2 AFC on my scan in September was. So I went searching for Low AMH/AFC success stories and heard from a number of women who were told their chances were low but they had success. Some did not respond well first cycle but then went on to have success on their subsequent cycles. It really made me feel better and has helped me look at this first round as a bit of an investigation rather than something I expect to work first time. I'm not saying I won't be losing my mind in the coming weeks if I don't respond to the meds but hopefully I can try and keep an open mind.

How are you getting on with this cycle so far?

Rachae · 31/10/2020 09:59

@BrandyM how about yourself, if you don't mind me asking? Xx
