Thanks all so much for the well wishes. Egg collection today went very well.
Before the procedure, the doctor warned me that although they’ll make every effort to collect eggs from every follicle, the average is 80%. So I went in expecting 4-5 eggs from my 6 follicles.
Just before he sedated me, the anaesthetist said ‘this should work any second now’ and that’s the last thing I remember. 30 minutes later, I woke up from a very deep sleep and it was all over.
I woke up super confused though. I had no idea where I was or what happened (it didn’t help that I was in a different room when I woke up). They then told me that they retrieved eggs from all 6 follicles and I cried like a baby.
The worst bit is the heavy period like pain (cramp) after the procedure. But it’s not any worse than what I normally get with one of my heavy period pains.
Also, although husbands sperm was normal (76% motility) they said after they cleaned it, motility was slightly reduced and coupled with our long history of infertility (been actively trying for over 6 years), they opted for ICSI.
Onto the next hurdle now. They’ll call us tomorrow morning to tell us how many of the 6 are mature and fertilised. Xxx
