@Rachae Injecting has been surprisingly easier than I expected. The first day was tough but then it got a lot easier from day 2. I’m now doing it like a pro! With no side effects so far i can’t really complain either. Although conscious the side effects would probably start to creep up a couple of weeks into it...

I’m so sorry to hear that you had a tough day today with the side effects. Hope tomorrow is a better day for you. Drink lots of water (my clinic said 2-3 litres a day but honestly I’m finding 3 litres near impossible to achieve!).

On a positive note, as you say, now you know it’s working right? haha 😊

BrandyM · 25/10/2020 21:59

@ivfhope3 Yay to no longer bleeding from the operation! Another milestone achieved! AF better be here in hopefully 4 weeks?

We are hear to listen so don’t worry about whinging and moaning if you get frustrated whilst waiting for AF 😉

No worries re helping the group. It was a relaxing weekend for me so I was able to help. I’ll be a little quieter Monday to Friday as work is just crazy busy. Will definitely still follow everyone’s journey though and update whenever I get a free moment here and there 😊

Yes you’re right, we have a lovely group going - thanks so much for starting this thread - you’re a star 💫 🌟 xxx

Rachae · 25/10/2020 23:28

@BrandyM thanks for your kind words :-) Great news that the injections are going well! My fiance does mine as I'm a total wuss with needles! Really not as bad as I was expecting tho to be honest.

Jane1284 · 26/10/2020 08:16

Hi @BrandyM
That is interesting we are on different protocols with similar situations. They did say to me on my original consult that they were only expecting to get 5 eggs from me with max stimulation so perhaps they are focusing on getting one good quality egg for me rather than numerous? I only had 2 AFC which is rubbish. I was listening to the 'Big Fat Negative' podcast yesterday and they had Professor Tim from Oxford Fertility talk about short and long protocols. Was really interesting. Sounded like short is recommended for those with PCOS and high AMH (neither of which I have). I am wondering if it is just down to the clinic and which process they prefer. I am with Kings Fertility. I haven't actually had my baseline scan with them yet so it all may change but based on the paperwork there will be no down-reg. Another lady said to me that her clinic treat the first cycle as a test to see how your body responds to the drugs to better inform future cycles. Made sense to me that they probably have a standard cycle that they use for everyone first round and then they make adjustments to any future cycles? Praying that we will all be one of the people that gets lucky first round but I have made my peace with the fact that I am likely to take a few rounds with my low AMH/AFC.

Getting a second opinion sounds like a great idea for you. I would be really interested to hear what they say. Especially since they specialise in use of DHEA. I have been looking into Create Fertility who specialise in a more natural/mild IVF approach which can be good for those of us with low ovarian reserve. Depending on how i feel about Kings after this first round I may go elsewhere for my private rounds.

On the supplements- I am taking ubiquinol. Yikes it is expensive! Not as expensive as IVF so let's hope it helps my eggs. :-)
Thank you for the detailed info on DHEA. I guess I will see how this first round goes and if there are issues with egg quality I will speak to the doctors and see if they recommend starting it.

There's just so many unknowns until we get this first cycle done. I am really excited to start now and get the ball rolling. Very scared that it is all going to go pear-shaped but trying to remain positive. x

Luludarty · 26/10/2020 10:57

Any ladies that have started injecting. Do you insert it slowly, or jab it in? And did anyone use an ice cube to numb it a bit?

hopeful182 · 26/10/2020 14:58

@luludarty. I went slowly!!! Pinch the skin, Deep breathe push it through the skin then slowly push it further and further in, then let go of the skin and slowly push the plunger down for the meds to go in. Keep it in for 5 seconds once plunger all the way down, keep finger on the end of plunger and pull straight out, not on an angle. It works for me and I am petrified of needles.
I've never tried the ice cube thing yet, I think waiting for it to numb my skin would make me fret and worry more than just getting on with it. Xx

Luludarty · 26/10/2020 18:16

@hopeful182 oh thanks so much mate. I will follow that to a tee. It’s good to hear that people find it easier than they expected.

hopeful182 · 26/10/2020 20:46

@Luludarty no worries. Like I say it works for me. Haha. X

Rachae · 27/10/2020 04:22

Hey everyone, going a bit crazy with worry the lack of period/ can't sleep! So my first check is a week on Wednesday and I had period symptoms and cramps all week.. I had a tiny amount of spotting for 2 days and that's now stopped. Not sure if this will be enough to start the next phase? Sad Lost track of days, it's maybe cycle day 37 now...

Rachae · 27/10/2020 04:22

*All weekend

ivfhope3 · 27/10/2020 09:07

@Rachae have you already start medication? Or just waiting for your period?

When I started my period came late little drips then nothing then a few days later it came but very late

Then when I was on down regs. My period literally lasted a day or 2 as the medication works like menopause xx

Rachae · 27/10/2020 10:07

Thanks @ivfhope3 yes I'm 2 weeks 2 days into buserelin. I think this is what people call down reg. Really appreciate you sharing that and fingers crossed it appears soon x

Roo45 · 27/10/2020 10:18

@Rachae I'm a week or so behind you I think, would be day 12 of buserelin for me this evening and had a few AF symptoms but no sign yet! My normal periods can be between 28-34 days (but usually around 30) so hopefully it will show up soon! Let us know how you get on! (Also, the side effects have started again for me too! 48 hours of a headache so far, luckily have the day off work today!)X

dragonfly1978 · 27/10/2020 10:34

Finished norethisterone on Saturday and period arrived today so scan on Thursday and fingers crossed will start menopur on Thursday evening this week!! Just want to get started on that now.

MF1981 · 27/10/2020 13:29

Hey everyone. I went for my mock embryo transfer this morning and am home now. It was absolutely fine and I feel reassured that he said everything looked normal and lining is where they would expect it to be. I’m so glad I had it as now I know what to expect and feel a bit more relaxed about it. Start progynova on Sunday and then it’s just waiting for AF so I can start stims.

Jane1284 · 27/10/2020 14:25

@MF1981 that's great news. I have heard of a mock transfer once before. Is this something you had to ask for or does your clinic suggest it for everyone? Do you mind me asking if your cycle is with the NHS or at a private clinic? Just wondering if this is something I should be asking my clinic about. Thanks :)

MF1981 · 27/10/2020 14:55

@Jane1284 my consultant wanted me to have it because my hsg was awful and couldn’t be completed so they were worried in case they wouldn’t be able to pass the catheter through on actual embryo transfer day. Always good to have a dress rehearsal I guess! We’re paying ourselves as I’m classed as too old for the NHS support in our area, but our clinic does both NHS and private patients. How are you doing?

And how is everyone else?

Rachae · 27/10/2020 15:04

@Roo45 oh no a 48 hour headache :( that's awful x
My main side effects today are extreme tiredness and generally low motivation. (Realising why people out on weight now!)
Thank goodness tho, AF finally arrived hurrah! Hoping just in time for whatever they do at the first check a week tomorrow

Jane1284 · 27/10/2020 15:11

@MF1981I'm sorry to hear your HSG was awful. Sounds like the mock transfer was a great idea then. Glad to hear it went well. I have convinced myself that i have blocked tubes and would like a test but my clinic seemed so keen to get me started on IVF that I didn't really push for it. With hindsight I wish I had. Depending on how this first cycle of IVF goes I think I will ask for hycosy before I start on my private round. It would be nice to know if there is any point stressing about my cycle and timing TTC each month!

ivfhope3 · 27/10/2020 15:48

@Rachae yes I was always a week late
I had i little bleed then nothing for about 4-6 days afterwards. They do say it can prolong your period.. well actually they didn't until I was late. I was an angry cow bag for weeks 😂🙈..

@MF1981 that's so good how they do a mock transfer. How are you feeling? When do you ahve the actual transfer?

I'm ok I'm just on a waiting game now. For af to arrive again lol xx

Hope everyone is being kind.. I've literally blitz the house I have 4 bags of rubbish just from down stairs 🤣🙈 I'm drunk cluttering xx

MF1981 · 27/10/2020 16:44

I feel absolutely fine - I was a little crampy when I got home but nothing now really. Just glad I now know what to expect. Hopefully actual transfer will be in about 4 weeks-ish x

Rachae · 27/10/2020 17:48

I'm being kind by ditching the healthy eating and getting a macdonalds tonight.. 😂 Hope everyone is ok x

BrandyM · 27/10/2020 19:23

Congrats @Rachae on your period! Isn’t it funny how we would normally dread our period and now we celebrate having it! 🤣

Great idea on treating yourself with McDonald’s! The whole healthy eating business during IVF can get super tiring! On the other thread there is even a bit of a trend surrounding ham and cheese sandwich after egg transfer (I think @ivfhope3 might be the culprit on that one!) haha 😂 xx

MF1981 · 27/10/2020 19:35

@cosmo30 tagging you in x

ivfhope3 · 27/10/2020 20:01

@BrandyM 😂😂 haha xx how are you xc how is work xx
