Abc IVF

Has anyone recently had IVF with abc IVF? They have approved me for a frozen cycle only at the moment.
Do you know if they are only doing frozen cycles in light of the pandemic.
We have mainly chosen them due to low cost. I appreciate that the low cost means cut backs in certain areas, but I'm often waiting for 1-1.5 hours on the phone to speak to a central phone line for all branches.
It's tricky as I know that IVF is really down to the individuals body response, but I still feel that decisions made by doctors about medication doses etc are important.
Keen to hear about others experiences.

Hi does anyone know if we had our initial consultation and paid for that and a SA just to get an idea of everything would there be a time limit on when we would need to start I can't untill end of July/ August don't want anyone at work etc to know so summer holidays would be best but want to get the tests done asap. Would that be possible or do you have go do them just before and pay now etc? Some advice would be great thank you also my OH saying can he get SA from another clinic somewhere nearer to us now and give them results? Thank you

StarryHannah · 01/03/2021 16:16

@Ivfmarch2021 my husband came in with me as he had to produce his sample. It was quite nice have him come in with me, but after he was taken to do it I didn't see him until I left the building myself. Covid is to blame for that unfortunately. However i was able to text him all the way up until i was taken down and then when I woke again. It meant time went quicker for me, i didn't feel all alone as we had contact and he wasn't worrying with no contact from me as it was only a short period of time. Xx

Ivfmarch2021 · 01/03/2021 16:20

@StarryHannah aww I'm glad to hear. My husband will have to produce the sample there too. Do they have a chat before the procedure with you both together or individually? Xx

StarryHannah · 01/03/2021 16:23

@ivfmarch2021 it is individually. However as you go to the monitoring scans leading up to egg collection you will always know what the next step is as nurses are fab at keeping you in the loop xxx

Ivfmarch2021 · 01/03/2021 16:25

@StarryHannah perfect thank you for replying! Xx

StarryHannah · 01/03/2021 16:27

@Herehoping93 my husband's SA was just over a year old from another clinic but they accepted it. I remember there being a three month timescale between one of the meetings/blood tests and having the ivf but I can't remember which exact meeting sorry. Ring to ask and book your appointments over the phone so you don't waste money booking too soon. I'm guessing you're also a teacher? Xxx

StarryHannah · 01/03/2021 16:33

@ivfmarch2021 you are more than welcome. Please just ask if you can think of anything xxx

Herehoping93 · 01/03/2021 16:48

Hi not a teacher i work in a nursery so term time all the same :).. ok thank you we will get a SA done nearer us then makes things easier he won't be able to come to the clinic so much as he works everyday all over country will be able to go for the tests he has to etc.. wish could start sooner but still saving the money's also thanks for your replies x

Icsi2021 · 01/03/2021 16:53

@StarryHannah wow well done! What amazing amount of eggs, do they fertilise them now before freeze?
My AF has turned up today i think 😭unless its a abit of spotting, but if not i have to wait for next cycle as i have my second mmr 17th so i cant start before then 😩 x

StarryHannah · 01/03/2021 17:25

@Icsi2021 thank you. I am super happy. My nurse from the Cardiff clinic phoned me to see how I was and told me to rest... I was really touched she phoned, brought tears to my eyes. Bristol clinic have also phoned me to confirm it was 10 eggs but to let me know my husband's sperm was all good and they're in an incubator now. So exciting! They also gave me an hour time slot to expect a phone call in the morning to tell me how the fertilisation went. I'm so glad of a time slot so I'm not on edge waiting for hours. They also confirmed my phone number and email address so I know all details with them are correct. She said they usually expect around 60% of eggs to fertilise. They will be freezing fertilised embryos (fingers crossed we have some) on either day 3 or 5 depending on how they are doing xxx

StarryHannah · 01/03/2021 17:26

@Icsi2021 it's rubbish its gonna be another month for you ... but just think next month is going to be your month :) xxx

Icsi2021 · 01/03/2021 17:38

@StarryHannah i have my fingers crossed you have a good number to freeze.
Im hoping its just some spotting as i do sometimes get that but tomorrow will tell. You are right tho if its next cycle then its next cycle we cant control mother nature x

Ivfmarch2021 · 01/03/2021 21:12

@Icsi2021 just keep positive and next month will be better for you!

@StarryHannah I am really happy to hear and i find it really lovely how they've kept you well upto date, just gives you reassurance! Fingers crossed you have some to freeze. Let us know how you get on xx

Icsi2021 · 01/03/2021 21:59

@Ivfmarch2021 its the first month ive had a 28day cycle in atleast 3/4 years its typical lol but never mind as you say 🤞🏼 Itl be next month.
@StarryHannah i love following you as we are using the same clinic and hearing how well they have treated you makes me so much more relaxed . We are off to Bristol tomorrow for SA x

StarryHannah · 02/03/2021 10:43

@Icsi2021 i hope the SA goes well.

They phoned to say 6 fertilised. I'm really really really happy as it's a good number to move forward from. They'll ring us on day 3 which is Thursday with an update of how they are doing and next steps xxx

Icsi2021 · 02/03/2021 11:41

@StarryHannah thats really good news, how you feeling today? X

StarryHannah · 02/03/2021 12:19

@Icsi2021 i wish I could tell you different to this, but I've honestly been in a quite lot of pain. I took painkillers when I was allowed to yesterday which did help, but the trapped gas is extremely painful ... under my ribs and in my abdomen and shoulder. I couldn't sleep so had an awful night; but it eased a lot after I managed to use the loo (TMI sorry). I feel all bruised inside which is expected. I'm jealous of those people who were able to go straight back to work. I had to just set work for my classes today as too much aching pain to teach live. It hurts to walk, cough, sneeze, laugh etc. I have spent the day resting with plenty of water. I'm not right but feeling much better than I was so keep in mind it will pass quickly. If you are able to book a rest day or two after the op I would just in case. If I was in school as normal I would have had to phone in sick (and I'm one of those who always force themself in when able to and not contagious, but I couldn't even do online lessons today).

I had Dr Spirro in Bristol... he is lovely! And the anaethesist was so kind (I can't remember her name but she was a blonde lady). There was a nice man Roy too who made me laugh when setting me up for the op. You get introduced to everyone directly before the op ... there was me and six specialists in a tiny little theatre room (it's not scary in there at all). When they were running through all the questions like allergies etc the anaethesist reached down and squeezed my hand .... this was so nice of her.
Xxx

Icsi2021 · 02/03/2021 12:31

@StarryHannah oh that does sound a bit rough, its sounds as if they are amazing there, like you said makes it easier when they make you feel relaxed. i havnt told work what im having but i have said i may need a day or 2 off at short notice due to having some treatment done, iam a care coordinator though so hoping this will make it a little easier with me being able to swap my shifts around abit, i am currently sat in the car waiting for hubby to come out, took us about 15mins to find the carpark lol it is a bit far from the clinic though? Not sure if you used the carpark? Xx

StarryHannah · 02/03/2021 12:37

@Icsi2021 we parked in frog lane car park, then i I messaged my husband when ready to come get me from outside as nurse told me he had to be outside for me and to pull up out the front (he was already there waiting though bless him) It is difficult to see turn in as it turns to cobbled type stones. It ls double yellows outside but lots were there sitting in cars waiting for partners. I should have thought to tell you this sorry! I have read some park just on the right a little further up from costa ... there's a little pay and display area on the actual road.

I haven't told work either. If it was normal school i would have had to tell my head at least as have to provide a reason for absence xxx

Icsi2021 · 02/03/2021 12:49

@StarryHannah ah okay we didnt think you could drive up there 🤣 (so dull) we drove passed it 3 times. Its hard aint it you dont wanna tel people and jinx it, im hoping itl fall on my 2 days off but if not il try work something out xx

StarryHannah · 02/03/2021 12:54

@Icsi2021 neither did we haha. My husband even drove down a one way street towards a van at one point when looking where to park.

I know I couldn't deal with people asking questions and things. Even like how the egg collection went, or how the freezing goes, let alone the pregnancy test results I would be constantly worried it would be bad news to tell others, and I know this would cause me to feel under more pressure. Xxx

Ivfmarch2021 · 02/03/2021 13:51

@StarryHannah aww bless! I hope the pain goes away soon. When I had my treatment consultation they told me 2 days of complete resting and not even going into the kitchen. Just try rest as much as you can. Also so happy to hear that you've had a fabulous number fertilised!

Do any of you guys commute a fair distance for work?

Would you say avoid driving long journeys? Xx

Icsi2021 · 02/03/2021 14:05

@StarryHannah im so glad we are using the same clinic and now i know we can drive up there lol hope you feel better soon.
@Ivfmarch2021 i am carer in community so a lot of traveling to and from different calls, iam goin to be put on to single calls so no heavy calls but il have to drive also to take my son to school x

Ivfmarch2021 · 02/03/2021 14:25

@Icsi2021 that's good you will be on single calls so its not too much.

Do they usually tell you what sorts of things to avoid in early pregnancy?xx

Beaglemum91 · 02/03/2021 15:48

@Ivfmarch2021 thanks, we did explain the situation situation her response was that if we've gone private for the tests and ivf it makes things more complicated and she needed to speak to someone else... not sure how it's more complicated as we sent them copies of the test results. Also foe the pessaries, they explain it to you when you do EC, I had a fresh transfer and they said to start the pessaries that evening and then have 3 a day until blood test. At ET they tell you when your blood test will be and ask if you will need more pessaries to make it to that date.

@StarryHannah it is a faff, but makes me glad we went private from the start as we knew it was going to be like this with DH. They really don't seem to like looking into male issues!
