Abc IVF

Has anyone recently had IVF with abc IVF? They have approved me for a frozen cycle only at the moment.
Do you know if they are only doing frozen cycles in light of the pandemic.
We have mainly chosen them due to low cost. I appreciate that the low cost means cut backs in certain areas, but I'm often waiting for 1-1.5 hours on the phone to speak to a central phone line for all branches.
It's tricky as I know that IVF is really down to the individuals body response, but I still feel that decisions made by doctors about medication doses etc are important.
Keen to hear about others experiences.

Hi @MochaTea, hope your scan went well on Friday.
I’m finding it really hard to stay positive. I had a early blastocyst transferred yesterday, they couldn’t grade it because it was in the early stages. Today they called me to say that I had one grade c to freeze. I know I need to be realistic but I burst into tears. I’m wondering if if should bother freezing a grade c or do a fresh cycle if I need it. I feel so down.. maybe it’s the hormones.

MochaTea · 05/12/2020 19:37

Hey @RMC224 it went really well, thanks!

I'm a bit confused, you said you had a 5-day transfer right? So the grade wouldn't be just "c" - there would be a number and another letter.
Do you recall at all?
Or did your embryos did not progress from day 3 to day 5?

You will receive a detailed report with the grades, let me know?
I'm so sorry about how you're feeling, it really sucks, I had in my mind that it would not work the first time just to keep my expectations in check really.
If you have doubts, do ask for a phone or in-person appt to understand what happened to your embryos.

RMC224 · 06/12/2020 09:17

Thanks @MochaTea. The grade of the frozen embryo is 4cc. All embryos progressed to day 5 early blastocyst, one was put in on the day and none of the rest, apart from 4cc made it to full blastocyst, which is why I’m not holding much hope for this one. I feel like I’ve written this one off before it’s even started, maybe it’s a coping mechanism.
I’m going to call tomorrow to get a better understanding of what’s happened.

I’m glad your doing well. Thanks for taking the time to write back to me.

RMC224 · 06/12/2020 09:19

That was supposed to be “didn’t make it to full blastocyst”

MochaTea · 06/12/2020 09:59

Oh @RMC224 4cc is a great embryo, of course, we don't know if it's going to stick, but I had a 4ab put in and it worked but my other two frozen ones are 5cc and 3bc. I had a little search about 3 graded embryos and I've read some people say a higher one didn't stick but that they had a baby out of a 3bc one.

Of course, it can simply not stick but don't give up on your 4cc, you never know.

user1475505106 - I wouldn't recommend going to Prague or anywhere else abroad! We went to Praga Medica and it was a nightmare!! My wife was over stimulated and was rushed to a local hospital with severe OHSS. I thought I was going to lose her. We had to fly home and the clinic, having frozen our embryos, promised that, because of the OHSS, our implantation would be Free of charge. When we went back, they reneged on that and we were obliged to pay. This is the BIG problem when going abroad ... it might seem cheaper BUT, once they have your embryos you are forced to keep going back with all the ensuing costs of travel, hotels etc. It ended up costing us over £15,000 with No results ... I am not convinced that the flights back, with cabin pressures etc, did any good for the treatment? We had looked at abc initially but, at that time they only had one clinic in London and, for us living in the NE, that cost more in hotels and travel, than our 2 hour flight to Prague from Newcastle. We have had one further unsuccessful attempt in Newcastle and now find that abc have a clinic in Leeds, which is not too far for us to travel, so we are going to give them a try. We are particularly impressed that they are very careful in their stimulation protocols and, though some have wondered about this, we can confirm that it is the best approach! Believe me, OHSS is NOT something you want to risk!!!

HV88 · 06/12/2020 13:03

@RMC224 sorry that you are feeling so frustrated. I know exactly what you mean about writing it off, which I found was a good coping mechanism. My husband thought I was so negative.
Fingers crossed for you 🤞🏼🤞🏼 X

Beaglemum91 · 07/12/2020 16:16

@RMC224 How are you feeling today? I have my fingers crossed for you and although I'm not quite there yet, I think I'd be feeling the same as I know ill be so scared to get my hopes up!

Our medication was ordered today and gets delivered on Wednesday next week! I looked at the prescription and saw only 8 bemfola and Buserelin, I thought we took bemfola longer than 8 days and no idea what Buserelin is as I dont remember it mentioned in the treatment consultation?

RMC224 · 08/12/2020 12:21

Than you @Beaglemum91 I’m ok, just trying to take things day by day and stay off google search lol.

I can’t remember how many Bemfola I had to start with. I needed a few extras which they gave at the clinic so I wouldn’t worry about that.
I took certrotide. Maybe worth emailing or calling to double check. X

Beaglemum91 · 08/12/2020 14:51

@RMC224 Google is so tempting! Be strong :)

Oh good, as long as I can get more if needed. I think the Buserelin may be an alternative trigger as there was only 1 on there, its just not one thats been mentioned on my calls so I'll check with them.

Hello,
I’ve read here that some people that are doing ivf at abc had their initial scans at Creat St Paul’s? I would like to start my treatment during this Christmas but because abc ivf are closed during weekends they said it was risky as I would need scans. I asked if one of them could be done at Create as they open on Saturdays and they said that it wasn’t possible? I’m a bit confused as I thought they do egg collection at St Paul’s anyway...Thanks and I hope you all had luck!

Luckfor2021 · 15/12/2020 18:21

@user1475505106

Hi.

I am with ABC IVF and have found them to be amazing. I am hopefully due for egg collection in the first week of July, and if it works out well a fresh embryo transfer.

I had my initial scans at St Pauls too but I am now with a clinic near to me.

I find email is a really good way to communicate, and calling between 2 and 6pm is a good way to get through to someone. The mornings are full of scan appointments and monitoring etc.

The nurses have been lovely. I went to Lister to have a consultation and I found them very matter of fact and not thorough. ABC have been lovely so far and happy to answer any more questions!

@user1475505106 hello! I would like to start my ivf treatment this Christmas but they told me that it’s probably not possible because they don’t open on weekends and with Boxing Day and New Years they wouldn’t be able to get as many scans as they need. I asked if I could get one of the scans at Create as they are open on Saturdays and they said that this is not possible. It doesn’t sounds right if I have to go there for the egg collection anyway right? I can see you went to create for your initial scans, was this because they were closed? Thanks for your help
indigocloud · 17/12/2020 12:58

Hello ladies! I hope you've all been well :) Just got off an FET consultation call with the clinic which will likely be in late Jan/early Feb. Quick question for those of you who've done an FET and were successful with it - did you opt for the mild or the natural IVF protocol? Thanks in advance!! x

Shams1993 · 17/12/2020 23:21

Hi @Poppies2020 I’ve just read this whole forum and you seem like such a lovely person - even when things didn’t work out for your with your first cycle you continued to be so positive and supportive for everyone else. I hope you’re pregnancy is going well and I hope everything went well with your scan on the 30th!!

I am planning to start IVF @ABCIVF Harley street in March as I have stage 4 endo which is quite extensive on my bowels :(

Everyone has provided a lot of info on this thread which has been super insightful for me!!

Hope everyone’s IVF cycle is going well xoxo

Poppies2020 · 18/12/2020 07:30

Hi @Shams1993! Thank you so much, I decided that you just have to try and be as positive as possible through this process, my husband and I even even managed a laugh or two when I managed to get the needle stuck in my leg on the first attempt which freaked him out (he is terrified of needles! 😂) my scan went very well thank you, amazing I am expecting identical twins!

I am over the shock now and just excited to meet them at the end of the journey!

I had nothing but wonderful experiences at Harley Street, and also went to the St Pauls Clinic and Wimbledon Clinic for egg collection and transfer, so if you have any questions at all please ask away, I will be happy to help xx

Luckfor2021 · 18/12/2020 08:30

Great to hear from people that are going through the same thing! I’m 35 with unexplained infertility and we are starting treatment in a week at ABC Harley street. They told me previously that this wouldn’t be possible because of the Xmas holiday but it looks like now they have made some arrangements with Create. Alison at Harley street sounds lovely! Any tips or something I should do/not do to prepare for this? Thank you ladies!!

Shams1993 · 18/12/2020 17:01

Hi @Poppies2020 omggg huge congratulationssss to your and your partner!! Twins!! That’s amazing news.

It’s great that you managed to always stay positive. I’m trying to do the same as I know stress is not ideal when TTC.

I’m not a fan of needles but I’m willing to overcome my fears if it means I may have a child at the end.

I don’t have any questions at the moment but thank you!! Xx

I wish you all the best with your pregnancy and labour 🙏🏽🙏🏽

Poppies2020 · 18/12/2020 17:13

@Luckfor2021 you will be in great hands at Harley street, I had Alison for lots of my appointments and she is just lovely! How exciting that you are are able to start before Christmas! Are you taking a vitamin with Folic Acid? Apart from the usual, healthy diet etc then there is not really too much you need to do before you go. I found the whole process much quicker and much less daunting than I thought it would be, so you will be fine. If you have any questions at all then ask away! x

Luckfor2021 · 18/12/2020 17:34

@Poppies2020 hello and huge congratulations!!! Yes I’m taking folic acid and making sure I eat a lot of veggies, fruit and fatty fish. I might have questions once I start with the injections in about a week so I might be in touch. Thank you so much and good luck with everything! :)

Luckfor2021 · 21/12/2020 09:21

Hi everyone! I was just wondering if most of the people here have done ICSI or if you’ve had successful regular ivf. In our case we have unexplained infertility and there isn’t a male factor involved. At first, they suggested ICSI but we read a bit more about it and NICE guidelines only recommend this when you’ve had one failed round of IVF or male factor involved. We talked about this again with the clinic and they said we can aim for regular ivf and then depending on how the samples look we can decide if ICSI is needed. I think that sounds pretty reasonable but just wanted to hear about your experience.
Tomorrow I should be receiving the medication and it looks like 3 tablets of antibiotics are included (Co-amoxiclav). They haven’t mentioned when I should take these but I guess closer to the egg retrieval day?
Thank you everyone and I wish you a great Christmas and a very healthy new year!

MochaTea · 22/12/2020 15:29

Hi @Luckfor2021 thought i chime in as I am also older so 36 with unexplained fertility and if t it's not a male factor, then you're most likely having IVF.
But that gets decided on the day of egg and sperm retrieval, they will check the quality of the sperm and if it's good quantity, quality and mobility they will say IVF to you over the phone probably in a few hours after you left the clinic. I was still there when they called me.

The co-amoxiclav is for you to take after the egg retrieval to help avoid any infections.

super good luck x

Luckfor2021 · 22/12/2020 16:56

Thank you for the info @MochaTea!!! :)
I can’t wait to start with everything, hopefully my period will come in about a week. I’ve just received the meds today.
I hope everything is going well for you!

StarryHannah · 22/12/2020 20:44

Hi all
Sorry to jump on your thread, but I've been having a good read and you all seem so helpful and friendly!
We are thinking of going to ABC for IVF after being diagnosed as unexplained infertility from another clinic. Choosing abc due to price range and we fit their 'shoebox' criteria.

I was just wondering if anyone can advise what the process is from having the scan then the first consultation a few days later. Also wondering when would finance be applied for (we have deposit, money for consultation etc).
Many thanks
Hannah

Beaglemum91 · 22/12/2020 21:34

Welcome @starryHannah!

I've started the process recently (Nov) and wondered exactly this! Basically at the first scan they do an internal scan to check your uterus, ovaries, blood flow and follicle count. It took about 20-30 minutes from when I arrived at the clinic to when I left so very efficient! I'm at the Manchester clinic.
We had out consultation a few days later via video conference and the nurse consultant went through the results in the scan and a few other questions, check all the consents and forms that we completed online, went through my DH SA we had done as we have male factor, she then went through the process, drugs, scans, EC and ET so we knew exactly what to expect. Later that day our patient coordinator called to see if we had any other questions and as we were happy to proceed she went ahead and booked out blood tests (for Hep, HIV etc) and our treatment consultation. At that point we had to pay 500 to cover the bloods and consultation. At the treatment consultation a week later we had to pay the full amount so I imagine that's when you'd either apply for the finance at or just before the treatment consultation.

We had our bloods done the weekend before the treatment consultation so we'd know if there were any issues. The consultation went over the additional consents (specific to the procedures and treatment) ensures we knew what would be going on and the process and medication again and I asked a few questions.

Just after the treatment consultation the assistant manager of our clinic called to make sure we were happy and if we had any questions. She then took the remaining payment for our treatment and put the order in gor our medication. Same day I got a call from the medicine company to arrange delivery the following week.

After starting with our first consultation mid Nov, we are all ready to start woth my next period on new years day! It has been such a lovely team and process and so quick! Hope this helps!

StarryHannah · 22/12/2020 21:51

@Beaglemum91 this is amazing! Thank you. We have just paid the half price 205 for initial scan and consultation.
The 500 pound you say you pay for bloods and treatment consultation... is this in the 2500 price or is it extra?
Thanks
Hannah x
