Hi

Couldn't see a thread for May/June - hoping that I'm not on my own for this cycle as its our 2nd cycle and feeling worried that I won't get to transfer.

Would be great to share the ups and downs with others, I'm starting buserelin next Wednesday (27th May).

Ugh I’m confused. I just got a call from the embryologist and he said two of the embryos are 4 cell grade 1 and the other is a grade 2. He recommended doing a 3 day transfer tomorrow but from what I understand it’s better to transfer at day 5?

He said I could wait until day 5 and the embryos would probably progress as they’re good quality but there’s always a chance they wouldn’t and we could lose the cycle.

Any advice on what you would do in my shoes? I’m tempted to go with day 3 but want the best chance of success obviously.

takingthistooseriously · 12/06/2020 12:10

@Dbrook from what I gathered from my own googling on the subject, the main difference is that by day 5 they are much better able to grade the embryos and pick the best one with the highest chance of implantation, they simply have less information on them at day 3 so there's a greater risk that they'll pick the wrong one to transfer. Hence why transfer success at day 5 is greater. I didn't understand the difference to mean that a day 5 or day 3 transfer was inherently better or worse, more that they can better choose the right one to transfer at day 5. Hope that helps.

MrsLouB · 12/06/2020 12:22

@Dbrook pretty much what @ivfgottostaypositiveit they can sometimes tell by the way it is dividing but is often better to do a day 3 embryo transfer rather than try and wait to see if they make it to day 5 blastocyst sometimes when they feel the need to, also the womens body is a better environment for them to be in anyway - this is what i have read x

Wesstywoo · 12/06/2020 12:24

@Dbrook personally I prefer day 5 on the basis that if it isn't going to make it to day 5 in the lab then it unlikely to make it inside me either. Obviously then you do risk having nothing to transfer at all. However there is also an argument that the best place to incubate it is inside the body so completely down to personal preference/clinic advice

HJF84 · 12/06/2020 12:37

@dbrook This was my first day 3 transfer, the other three have all been day 5. Regardless of when you transfer, if it's a good embryo/blasto it will work. I just decided to mix it up this time, although I have no idea if this little embie will make it to blasto. I just have to have faith that it will.

@MrsLouB My little embie won't have made it to blasto yet! So no chance of any symptoms for me. I am super tired though. I think that's from having a couple of busy weeks at work. Trying to take it easy.

@ivfgottobepositive I had lots of twinges and pulls with my last three cycles and all were BFN. Everyone is different and most of the symptoms we have are from the drugs.

@pattaz2711 That's so odd that they didn't ultrasound, how did they know where it was going? I also think it's quite dangerous - it they'd planted the embryo in a tube you could have had a ectopic pregnancy!

@mrbay I was a lot more bloated this cycle than with previous cycles, which is crazy as I didn't have that many follicles. I guess it's the drugs as well.

ivfgottostaypositive · 12/06/2020 13:03

@dbrook

Did he definitely say 4 cells at day 3 as my clinic says they have to be minimum 8 cells on day 3 to get a good grade otherwise they class them as slow developers?

If they are only 4 cells I'd be inclined to let them go to day 5. Obviously there is the risk that they don't progress and you don't get anything to transfer? Day 3 is ok if it's an 8 cell grade 1 as it has a 90% chance of making blastocyst unless you have male factor. I had a 5 cell from last weeks collection and It only had a 15% chance of making blastocyst and had call yesterday to say it had arrested x

Dbrook · 12/06/2020 13:16

Thanks for the advice everyone. We’ve decided to go with a day 3 transfer. The other two will be left to develop to see if they can make it to day 5 to freeze.

@ivfgottostaypositive today is day 2 so I think 4 cells is on track? The day 3 transfer will be tomorrow.

ivfgottostaypositive · 12/06/2020 13:20

@Dbrook

Ah that makes much more sense! 4 cells day 2 is spot on - my clinic say grade 1 on day 3 had a 90% of getting to blastocyst

Pattaz2711 · 12/06/2020 14:12

I did start writing a message back to everyone then it deleted..

@HJF84 I did ask them how the know an they said it was messured the stuck a tube in told me to cough then the embryost looked at the tube under her microscope an said yep it's gone then sent me home..

@ivfgottostaypositive that's good your clinic blood test I have to wait for the home pregnancy test, I wish they would do a blood one. Especially the amount of money we put in..

@MrsLouB I've been told this time by hubby not to test early as he won't let me I'm under strict instructions although in don't know if I can.. he's back at work so I'm home alone 😫

It's horrible aswell as you have to do everything on your own now clinic wise there not aloud to come..

How is everyone feeling? Xx

ivfgottostaypositive · 12/06/2020 15:09

@Pattaz2711

I've read in the USA they often to do transfers without an ultrasound but they have you practically upside down whilst they do it?

Pattaz2711 · 12/06/2020 15:26

@ivfgottostaypositive oh lol.. I wasn't upside down.. I was sat there lol x

shazzz1xx · 12/06/2020 16:10

day 3 transfer ... they are always better in you ASAP
I would never do a day 5 transfer... I’ve done 2 days 3 transfers and was pregnant from both
my 10month old from day 3 transfer is sleeping as i type this
Good luck x

Eggling · 12/06/2020 16:44

Can I join you all on this thread please? I've read through and it's been really encouraging reading all your stories.

First round ICSI for me, short protocol, started Bemfola injections yesterday and have my first scan monday morning. I'm high risk for OHSS so on a relatively low dose (125). It feels like there are so many hurdles - getting enough eggs, fertilisation, plus then I'm stressed that if I get OHSS I'll have to do a freeze all cycle and wait. I'm so sick of waiting! Just need to take one day at a time I guess. The injection was easier than I expected though so that's positive at least 😊

HJF84 · 12/06/2020 16:57

Thanks @shazzz1xx - I've just done my first 3 day transfer after only doing 5 day transfers previously and this has given me some encouragement

Welcome @Eggling - there are quite a few short protocol ICSI people here - including me. You're in good company. Good luck with it 😃

Eggling · 12/06/2020 17:06

Thanks @HJF84! Fingers crossed for you too 🤞🤞

Bestofyou1982 · 12/06/2020 18:00

Hi,
Hope it's ok for me to jump in on this thread?
Currently on daily injections and tablets on build up to FET around June 30th. After a miscarriage back in early March and then delayed start again with IVF, thanks to Covid.
Been advised to reduced contact with people outside of household so back to working at home and now it's all starting to feel a bit real again. After last failed attempt feeling more cautious than last time.

Hope everyone is having a good day?
Is anyone else approaching things differently to previous attempts, with regards to covid?

shazzz1xx · 12/06/2020 18:05

@HJF84

glad to have gave you some encouragement... you chose the best day :) wish you all the best.. x

BabySweet85 · 12/06/2020 18:41

Welcome @Bestofyou1982 I am currently doing daily injections for my first cycle of ICSI. That is interesting what you say about working from home.

Has anybody been told to officially self isolate during treatment?

HJF84 · 12/06/2020 18:50

@BabySweet85 @Bestofyou1982 I've signed a 'contract' with the clinic that me and DH will maintain social distancing, so we're planning on keeping to that despite the 'bubbles'.

MrsLouB · 12/06/2020 20:25

@babysweet85 @bestofyou1982 @eggling welcome xx

MrsLouB · 12/06/2020 20:28

So i know its early still but i feel like our lost shot has not worked. I dont have much going on but cramps and pain around my cervix so bad af pains which i dont think is a good sign at all. Ive watched some ivf documentaries today i dont know why but its so sad as most like 1 in 6 dont work or do and miscarry so so sad xxx

Also @HJF84 i didnt have to sign anything about isolating was never even asked x

Bestofyou1982 · 12/06/2020 20:45

Thanks for the welcome.

Bestofyou1982 · 12/06/2020 20:58

@HFJ84 how are you feeling after your transfer? x

takingthistooseriously · 12/06/2020 21:32

@MrsLouB I'm so sorry you're feeling like that. I know how you feel, I had a good cry today too, I've been getting cramps and low grade headache just exactly like I normally do a couple of days before AF, I'm 7dp4dt so AF due Monday and cramping right on cue. I so hope we're both wrong!
