Ivf March/April?

Hello,
Is anyone starting Ivf in March/April?
It would be nice to have some buddies.

I'm going for pre bloods and scans mid March, and expect to have egg retrieval around.

It's my first round, have been ttc for over a year and a half - unexplained infertility 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Xx40yearsyoungxx

I’m 9 days into down regs. Are you on a similar treatment? Northerisone tablets and Buserelin inj?
Yeah I vaguely remember the nurse saying a lot of people come in still bleeding and it’s perfectly fine. I think dependent on how delayed the bleed is, they change the stimulation start date? Does that sound right?

My scan is this Thursday the 19th. I’m really hoping things are going to be ok and this won’t all be for nothing 😕

That makes sense about going to scans alone. Guess they want to limit the amount of people going in.

Is this your first IVF cycle?

Xxx

Wesstywoo · 15/03/2020 13:33

@Lizzybee80 when did you finish the norethisterone? I haven't had to take it this time but have on my previous 3 goes and AF usually showed up 3 days after stopping for me but if I remember rightly they weren't worried with anything up to 10 days xx

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 15/03/2020 13:34

@Lizzybee80
Yes this is my first IVF , I’m just panicking as time is not on my side as I’m 41 in sept so any delay would be really detrimental to my already slim chances .....
I’m on Synarel nasal spray for my down reg meds.
I also work in a high risk environment.

Lizzybee80 · 15/03/2020 13:51

@Wesstywoo I stopped last Thursday- so three days ago now. I’ve got all the obvious signs of a bleed: aches and pains and hugely hormonal but without the bleed.( my poor hubby) so hopefully it arrives soon.
Do I need to inform the clinic of the date I bleed?

@Xx40yearsyoungxx

Try not to worry too much, unfortunately it’s completely out of our control. 😕
I didn’t anticipate this virus would get this bad so soon. Rest assured they won’t delay it and not allow you to restart again.
It’s not easy though getting this far if the process is going to be stopped/ delayed.
Is your fertility clinic a separate centre from -a main hospital?

Xx

Xx40yearsyoungxx · 15/03/2020 14:20

The main clinic is a separate clinic but the scans etc are in a NHS Satellite clinic .....they treat NHS at both, as well as private it seems.

Yeah you are totally right - there’s nothing we can do but go with the flow ( if it ever arrives for us with these down regs 🤔 😂 ! )

bunhead34 · 15/03/2020 15:36

Af arrived for me today, so I'll be doing my first injection tomorrow and need to book a scan in for Thursday.
How is/did everyone get on doing the injections? I've not done it before.

I'm also really hoping corona doesn't affect anything xx

OP posts:
Wesstywoo · 15/03/2020 16:25

@Lizzybee80 yes I'd call them and tell them when AF starts - they'll likely do a baseline scan within the first 5 days

Wesstywoo · 15/03/2020 16:31

@bunhead34 good luck - I'm due to do my first one for this cycle tomorrow too. Never found them that bad to be honest and before all this I used to absolutely hate needles! The ones for stims are tiny though so not too bad once you get the first one out of the way!

41trying · 15/03/2020 17:01

Afternoon all, day 4 on stims for me with another scan in Wednesday. I hope everyone is getting on ok with DR and stims.
Do we have anyone about to trigger yet?? Or are we in similar postions

Blacksheep33 · 15/03/2020 17:17

Hi All

My clinic haven’t said anything about coronavirus yet (other than making me fill in a questionnaire), but I suspect this will be kept under review. Fingers crossed it doesn’t disrupt any of our cycles. It’s a stressful enough time as it is!

@41trying - how are stims going? I am on day 10 stims and suspect I will be triggering tomorrow. I had a scan on Friday and they said I was close - they checked my estrogen levels and said they would call over the weekend to let me know if I should change dose or trigger. No phone call, and scan tomorrow so hopefully all looks ok and ready for the trigger! As ever, constant worry about the follicles getting to big/not getting big enough/not having enough follicles etc etc

41trying · 15/03/2020 17:24

@Blacksheep33 stims going fine, this is round 5 for me so expert haha.
It's so hard waiting for EC and then ET but I think TWW is far worse.

Blacksheep33 · 15/03/2020 17:41

@41trying this is my second round - didn’t respond well last time so was worried I wouldn’t have any to transfer and then ended up with day 3 transfer of 2 low quality. Really hoping for a better response this time but also trying not to get my hopes up too much!

The whole process is so tough.

Wishing you the best of luck with this cycle! What protocol are you on?

41trying · 15/03/2020 18:06

@Blacksheep33, last cycle I only had 3 which I fertilised and got put back on day 2 with BFN. This time LP with 450 gornal f 7 days then 375 and adding menopur at 75, this is max dose and my last attempt

Blacksheep33 · 15/03/2020 18:14

@41trying, sounds like we had similar cycles as I only had those two to put back in and BFN. I have DOR so need high doses.
Really hope you get good results with LP - I think that will be the next step for me too as I’ve only tried short protocol. How was your baseline and last scan?

I’m also having a dual trigger this time as apparently that helps with immature eggs - I had 2 immature eggs retrieved last cycle

Lizzybee80 · 15/03/2020 18:20

@Wesstywoo Thank you! Yeah I’ll give them a call. I assume I have to call and change my appointment for Thursday if I haven’t bled by then?

@Xx40yearsyoungxx
That’s good! As it’s a completely separate unit you hope they are safer and will continue on with treatments. 🤞🏽 We can only live in hope.

@bunhead34 Good luck with your first injections. I found them ok to be honest.
Took a few seconds on the first attempt to do it but once you’ve done a few, you master it. I found it a lot easier to inject my tummy than I did my thigh. 👍🏼

Good luck to everyone else on this journey.

I truly hope corona doesn’t affect any of our cycles. Xx

41trying · 15/03/2020 18:45

@Blacksheep33, I had one cancelled cycle, 2 on short natural with one egg not mature, last LP 3 eggs. This is last one like I said, high dose, 2 trigger. Baseline last Thursday was all good, but I did have to DR for an extra week due to scan week before that I had a cyst and lining not thin enough.
Lining on Thursday was 2.1 and po9kong good so fingers crossed.

Blacksheep33 · 15/03/2020 19:00

@41trying - keeping everything crossed that this is your cycle 🤞🏻 Sounds like it’s started well. I’ve read good things about the dual trigger so let’s hope it works for us! I had two cysts at the beginning of this cycle but they went ahead with my stims nonetheless!

Nmvasey · 15/03/2020 19:52

@blacksheep33 I’ve not heard of double trigger, is this just 2 trigger shot injections? Last cycle I had 6 eggs retrieved but only 2 were mature. They’ve not mentioned this as an option, is this your first time trying a double trigger? Sorry.. I’m intrigued x

Nmvasey · 15/03/2020 20:07

Hope your all having a good week! Anyone else worried about their cycle being cancelled? Has anyone heard anything from their clinic?

Blacksheep33 · 15/03/2020 20:13

Hi @Nmvasey

Yes, it’s two injections instead of one for trigger. I’m not entirely sure how it works but I had read that it helped mature eggs. Given that I had immature eggs and I have DOR (so every egg really counts!) I asked my consultant who then added it to my protocol this time round - I don’t know whether she would have suggested it without me raising it! I haven’t tried it before so I have no idea how it works or whether it will make a difference!
There have been a few studies on it such as this one - rbej.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12958-018-0451-x

There is no evidence it improves live birth rates though. I think what it does do is help mature eggs, so if immature eggs seems to be a problem for you it might be worth asking your clinic?

From all the reading I’ve done I can’t see any disadvantages (my consultant said there was no evidence that it was any less effective than the normal trigger, and ‘increasing’ evidence that it was more effective) and it’s only slightly more expensive (the cost of one extra injection).

41trying · 15/03/2020 21:21

@Nmvasey, when I was on short I had bloods to see if to take one or 2 trigger.
On long they just give 2 at my clinic so not sure

Elouera · 15/03/2020 21:25

Can I join please? I have egg retrieval (1st IVF) tomorrow (monday) morning at 8am, so a little nervous. Never had surgery except when I was 4!
Previously TTC 9yrs, 2 losses and no real cause for sub-fertility. Wishing everyone the best of luck x

bunhead34 · 15/03/2020 21:36

@Elouera good luck for tomorrow! Let us know how it goes.
9 years is an awful long time to ttc - fingers crossed now is your time xx

OP posts:
Elouera · 15/03/2020 21:41

@bunhead34- Thanks for the kinds words. Yes, I'll update tomorrow x

Blacksheep33 · 15/03/2020 22:45

@Elouera wishing you the best of luck! Don’t be nervous - my experience of egg retrieval was that it was completely fine and a lot better than I had expected it to be! Have everything crossed for you that it goes well
