Ivf March/April?

Hello,
Is anyone starting Ivf in March/April?
It would be nice to have some buddies.

I'm going for pre bloods and scans mid March, and expect to have egg retrieval around.

It's my first round, have been ttc for over a year and a half - unexplained infertility 🤷🏼‍♀️

@Lizzybee80 doing ok thanks. Still injecting myself, although the needle was hard to go in this morning (old scar tissue from previous rounds). I must admit I'm not as bouncy as I was on Friday. My mood has def dipped a bit ... hope you're doing ok?

I went to Savers to bulk buy towels/panty liners. All branded, but much cheaper than Boots/Superdrug, which is where I usually go, so I saved some money there. Also, there were loads of people in there trying to buy hand sanitizer: there was not a single one left in the shop! Ha Madness.

Thanks for the tip- I'm gonna check out that mindfulness app. I think I'm gonna need it.

Lizzybee80 · 08/03/2020 16:56

@NRW39

Aww ouch! Well done you for persevering even through that scar tissue. See that as battle scars- one you’ll win in the end!

Sorry to hear your mood has dipped. Hopefully it’s temporary and you start feeling better emotionally soon.
I’m doing ok thanks. Yesterday I had a bit of an emotional one. I get like this anyway when a period is due- let alone being pumped full of hormones 😹 think I needed it as much better today.

Yeah check it out- it’s a really useful tool for support through this journey. Brings you back to the here and now.
The guy is an Irish registered practitioner in alternative medicine- he’s got a lovely soothing voice!! Really lovely. Xxx

Lemongrass1 · 09/03/2020 11:55

@Lizzybee80 I managed to get the last 2! It’s starting to get tricky with certain things selling out. I still can’t work out why people are particularly worried about toilet roll though! I think I used mindful IVF last time, was useful as a distraction.

@NRW39 Sorry you’re not feeling as bouncy. Maybe it’s the buserelin, I had all sorts of mood swings on it last time. I hope you are feeling better today.

@UncleBrynsfishingtrip I’ve had two transfers before but never had a trial one beforehand. Sounds like a good idea though!

AFM I’ve had a sickness bug since yesterday, worst timing ever! Am a bit better this morning but feeling sorry for myself

Blacksheep33 · 09/03/2020 11:59

Hi all,

I hope you don’t mind me posting on this thread. I’ve been lurking for a while and posted separately but had no response and am looking for any advice!

I am currently on day 4 of injections for Ivf round 2.

I’ve had one round of ICSI which failed. We have male factor infertility but I also have a low amh (about 5) which is probably due to the fact I had surgery on one ovary to remove a cyst. On first ICSI I had 8 follicles to begin (and 1 on the other ovary which never grew - I was told that surgery may have damaged that ovary). Of those 8 follicles we got 6 eggs, 4 mature, 3 fertilised and 2 put in on day 3. They looked to be questionable quality.

Anyway, now on icsi number 2 and at my baseline scan I was expecting the same sort of follicle numbers. But this time they counted 15 on one ovary and another 7 on the other (probably non working) ovary. Overall that was more follicles than I expected.

I’m on a high level of stims again (375 Menopur) due to the low amh but I wondered if anyone has any experience of having follicle count vary so much month to month? Or experience of whether follicle count at baseline actually means anything??

Wishing everyone the best of luck with their cycles x

AliciaWhiskers · 09/03/2020 11:59

Hi ladies, can I join? We had a failed round of IVF in July last year and are trying again with our one frostie that we have from that round. I'm the middle of the FET cycle - on buserelin spray and oestrogen tablets at the moment. I've got a scan on Friday to check the lining of my uterus and then think it will be ET next week if all is going well.

What stage are you all at?

NRW39 · 09/03/2020 12:11

@Lemongrass1 Ahh, thanks. It's definitely the Buserelin. I felt the same kind of emotion on the Buserelin during my first round, although I was fine on it last round! I don't think my impending period is helping the situaton either... I'm also feeling quite today nauseous. Sigh!

Hope you're getting on ok with treatment/emotions, and that you're feeling better soon x

Welcome
@AliciaWhiskers @Blacksheep33

I started meds for my first FET 4 days ago (5th cycle)

@AliciaWhiskers You're coming up to an exciting stage. How are you feeling. Is it excitement??

NRW39 · 09/03/2020 12:17

@Lizzybee80 I downloaded the Mindful IVF app. You were not wrong about the guys voice!! He really does sound dreamy! Ha

41trying · 09/03/2020 12:52

Good afternoon all. This group is definitely getting started now.
I do hope everyone is ok.
This week Is here, so glad. I had another baseline on Thursday so hopefully all good this time and I can start stimming. This is my finally attempt. First cancelled, 2nd and 3rd, mild with only one egg nothing transferred. Went to another clinic, 4th had a transfer but BFN. This time I am trying different drugs of highest dose, so fingers crossed.
Where is everyone at, at the moment?

itwasalovelydreamwhileitlasted · 09/03/2020 13:08

I'm just waiting for my period to start - I was supposed to have a transfer this week but my final egg collection got cancelled due to strange estrogen and LH levels so got to wait to start again.

Kind of relieved a bit though has have been doing back to back cycles since new year and freezing embryos as we go so I think my body needed a break

I'm hoping I'll get period end of next week x

Vslightlystressy · 09/03/2020 19:12

First injection tomorrow - very slightly nervous and a bit glum tbh - sure it will be fine!

Wesstywoo · 09/03/2020 19:41

Also waiting for AF so I can get started, could be any time from tomorrow but typically not a cramp in sight!

Good luck with the first injection @Vslightlystressy!

Nmvasey · 09/03/2020 20:08

Day 8 of DR jabs for me and AF arrived today bang on a week in, last time she was much later. @Vslightlystressy you’ll be a pro in a couple of days! Must admit for my first I was also a bit apprehensive but this is the second round for me

Vslightlystressy · 09/03/2020 20:37

My regime is probably a little different to others - 2 prostap injections then cyclogest and lubion... am going to be a pincushion!

Nmvasey · 09/03/2020 21:59

@Vslightlystressy oh that is a lot, do you mind me asking why and what the different meds are for? You’ll still be used to them in no time I’m sure!

Hope everyone’s doing well

Vslightlystressy · 09/03/2020 22:14

I am having donor egg (as I am older and the specialist opinion is that the chances working with my own eggs is minute and with donor eggs is about 80%). These manage my cycle to make all the timings work and then progesterone in the two forms apparently significantly increases the chance of ivf success so going with that...

Lemongrass1 · 09/03/2020 23:45

@NRW39 I’m feeling better this evening thanks. Hopefully just 2 more week until we are into the next stage!

@Blacksheep33 I don’t have experience of varying follicle count. But hopefully more follicles this time works out well for you

@Aliciawhiskers welcome! Am currently a few days into down reg so a little wag behind you. Good luck for you scan Fri

@41trying hope your baseline scan goes well

@itwasalovelydreamwhileitlastedand @Wesstywoo hope AF comes on time! 🤞

@Valightlystressy Am on lubion as well as the progesterone pessaries too. A bit depressing with so many needles isn’t it. Good luck with your first injection. I did mine on Sat. X

@Nmvasey I hope AF comes on time for me too but it was pretty late last time. Remember being more stressed with each day of AF non arrival 😫

ValidUser · 10/03/2020 14:13

Hi everyone.

Did I miss anything interesting?

ER for the week of the 6th of April. Starting 250 gonal f when AF comes.

BP was high, but that's settled and I'm good to go. (30, cycle 1, AMH 12.6, tubal plus antiphospholipid syndrome.)

Also, we confirmed IVF rather than ICSI - DNA fragmentation results unexpectedly perfect.

Hoping1 · 10/03/2020 16:31

Hi i have a question for you ladies . I was given my treament plan and on it was written that i would be given the pil to start once i had bloods done. So went for bloods then give prescription for it. I collected then was told no to take it as new research say pill is not the way to go. I am nhs and another lady was there same day as me and was not given it . Is everyone not taking pill now xxxx

41trying · 10/03/2020 16:57

Hi@Hoping1, I never had to take the pill. From other threads I'm the past, some people took it so the hospital could manage their cycle.
Maybe someone will be able to shed more light if they are taking it or not.
Regulating their cycle maybe if it was irregular?

Wesstywoo · 10/03/2020 17:14

@Hoping1 at my last clinic I was given a drug called norethisterone (to make AF come on a set day) but this time I've just got to wait until it shows up. Different clinics have different approaches I think xx

Blacksheep33 · 10/03/2020 17:14

Hi @Hoping1

For my first (NHS) cycle I was given the pill for two weeks. The idea is really just so that they can manage your cycle even if your cycles are regular (which mine were). I think they were concerned that if my period was unexpectantly late I might miss the Christmas deadline (when they close) so they put me on it. They then tell you when to stop taking it so they can time the start of your cycle.

On my current cycle I didn’t take it because the clinic (different clinic) said to just ring in when I was on day 1.

On this cycle (non pill) I had some cysts on one ovary which I haven’t had before. They said that if they were hormone producing my cycle would be delayed so I could take the pill as that often gets rid of them - so it definitely has an advantage in that respect as apparently you have less chance of cysts if you’ve been on the pill.

My cysts weren’t producing hormones so they got me started but I have to say I am worried that the cysts are getting in the way of the growing follicles.

I’m not aware of any research against taking the pill before Ivf?

Vslightlystressy · 10/03/2020 18:20

Well - prostap injection today - didn’t go quite to plan as needle phobia reared it’s ugly head and had to go into the hospital to get the injection... feeling not great about the whole thing - probably just a rough day - staying positive but feeling a little bit of a failure...

ValidUser · 10/03/2020 18:31

@Vslightlystressy you poor thing! Sending you support.

NRW39 · 10/03/2020 18:47

@Vslightlystressy At least you attempted it.

Don't be too hard on yourself or put off. It's not easy. Think about it... it's not 'normal' to inject yourself, so your body/hand automatically want to object.

I self injected for the first time 5 days ago. I did need a few minutes to psych myself up. I actually recorded myself on my phone whilst I was doing it, so I could watch myself and talk myself through it- I was literally saying; Grab (a nice wedge of tummy flesh), needle it, plunge, done! It helped.

Do you feel brave enough to try again?

Vslightlystressy · 10/03/2020 18:58

I think I am going to get them to do the next prostap one - the injection is complicated and the needle huge! I am going to try and do the daily ones which the needle is smaller for... or get my husband too...
