@melissa1983 - happy birthday! 🎂 was your bday weekend right?! Hope you're being spoilt.

Good luck with ET today @chooklass - I also know a beautiful little baby that started off as a 3 day embryo transfer.

Hope you can find a way to get through the weekend before you can get some clarity and reassurance @lilly999 from your clinic/surgeon. As if it isn't stressful enough without the added strain of worrying about hydrosalpinx.

I had my EC early this morning. Quite a bit of pain afterwards but managing on pain relief now. 10 eggs collected but not sure how many are mature just yet. A bit disappointed as there were many follicles that were the right size so I'm just sad that after all the aggressive drugs and discomfort, they didn't harvest more. I know I'm sounding like a spoilt brat, I am grateful for what I did get just apprehensive as I know the numbers will fall like skittles.

I was told I'm not very positive at the clinic and that mental attitude can affect outcome. Feels like I've got to put on a all singing all dancing display of positivity when I go in when I'm worried and frightened.

Hi everyone,

Can I please ask whether anyone else has struggled with the progesterone pessaries? They were fine before EC when I was using them....the other side....but now I’ve switched over to vaginal insertion I don’t think I’m getting much of the progesterone!!
TMI but during the day I’m noticing a lot of it re-emerging shall we say as goo, and the overnight one last night when I used the loo this morning, solid bits of it fell out! 🙈 And I’m pushing it really as far as I can.

I’d like to go back to using it in the back as that was definitely all dissolving inside, but everything I google says for fertility pessaries should be vaginal. Has anyone else had this and what did you do? I’ll phone the nurses on Monday but am worried about the lost progesterone in the meantime as I’m 3dpt.

Sorry for the grim question, but if you can’t use IVF forums for this 😉

Chooklass · 25/01/2020 18:14

Hi @Wimbledon1 ! They are gross aren't they! The goo is just the shell which dissolves and works its way back out. My nurse said the progesterone would be absorbed in 30 mins or so then to expect 'clumpy discharge' from the shell.

Mine friend who had gone through IVF and Joe has a little bit recommend using then rectally rather than vaginally and I have to say it's been a game changer. No mess, at all just shell is just passed when go to loo.
Although it did feel a but strange putting it in first time or two.
Give it a whirl ladies.

Pinkstars2501 · 25/01/2020 19:13

Yes! If I put mine in then have a little lay on the sofa (I don't know why....hangover from ttc and letting the sperm stay in 😂), when I stand up it's like that little period gush you sometimes get after sitting for ages. TMI?

Bestofyou1982 · 25/01/2020 19:34

Oh my, not sure what happened with all the typos on my last message. Sorry.
Basically, try pessary rectally. No mess. Less hassle.

rainbow178 · 25/01/2020 20:05

@Lily999 hope you managed to enjoy your day! I think from looking at the graphs they fill in when I go, optimum size is 17-23. How many days stimming will Monday be? It will be my15th day

justkeeprunning5 · 25/01/2020 20:22

For the most part I took mine rectally too and less mess and fuss! I asked the doctor when I went for my follow up if it’s less effective that way and she said no. The body absorbs what it needs either way within 30 minutes and the body expels the waxy shell.

Lily999 · 25/01/2020 21:09

Hiya @rainbow178, it will only be day11, so maybe their size is not that badly behind. They didn't seem concerned on Friday. Hubby did ask what nr of eggs would I be ok, happy and very happy with, so I said 6is ok, 8is happy and 10is very happy :)
Yes, had a busy day with DH thanks, enjoying my new haircut and that time with my hairdresser was like the best therapy session ever!
How are you getting on killing time until Monday? Any discomfort?

Lily999 · 25/01/2020 21:14

@Dia12 sorry just trying to catch up with the thread. I completely understand you, have felt the same way and it's so difficult when people remind us by worrying we are not doing any favors to ourselves. It's awful as we don't WANT to worry and can't help it. Should we pretend to be cool as a cucumber? How would that help? Inside we are still incredibly anxious and then we are supposed to find energy to cover it up.. I just wish people would try a bit harder to understand.

rainbow178 · 25/01/2020 21:35

@Lily999 oh I think you're fine then! You will still be one day behind where I was on Friday, it was my day 12. I would think your EC might be nearer the end of the week. Glad you had a relaxing day! Yes we have too, walk, coffee, nice tea- not counting the hours at all....🤨

Sabz36 · 26/01/2020 09:03

@Dia12 I also got 10 eggs from 16 follicles. It's good to express how your feeling rather than suppressing them. I was given an IVF journey diary which is helpful at putting things down, this message board is amazing and doing some self love with acupuncture and trying some new recipes with healthy foods. It's unrealistic not to worry even when you get good news. I am having a freeze all due to fluid collecting in a random cavity. Whilst I wasn't happy I then gave myself happiness with opening a G&T present from Christmas.

Wimbledon1 · 26/01/2020 09:06

A belated thanks everyone for the notes about the pessaries and that the goo is in fact the shell. I feel much better now! Still not the biggest dream of the process though is it 😂

Chooklass · 26/01/2020 09:09

So agree with you @Sabz36, it's so important to have some sort of outlet for all this! I find this group so helpful ❤️. I've generally been fine so far but woke this morning at 4:30 am with serious anxiety out of nowhere (mostly about trivial stuff, not even IVF!). Not sure if that's the progesterone, or just everything from the last few weeks coming to a head - but I'm going to be very kind to myself today. Knitting, the Big Garden Birdwatch and a walk along the coast are on my agenda for the day. What's everyone else up to this Sunday? Xx

Thank you guys - this group really has been a lifeline, there is always someone who responds with warmth and compassion.

Update on my little eggs - 6 out of the 10 fertilised normally. Fingers and toes crossed for the next few days.

Dia12 · 26/01/2020 12:06

Oh and chooklass has got me thinking of knitting- I used to knit years ago and recall it being really relaxing!

jcurve · 26/01/2020 12:18

Hmmm. I’ve just gotten a letter from my clinic on my cycle results and they have stated twice they did “standard IVF insemination”. We paid upfront for ICSI because my husband has low morphology, I guess his Proxeed treatment worked.

They would definitely state if they did ISCI wouldn’t they? I don’t think it would have changed the outcome but I would like a refund for the ICSI then! They also never mentioned it at the time.

41trying · 26/01/2020 13:03

@Jcurve, on my last cycle the egg was deemed not suitable for ISCI so they didnt try, I got a refund for it straight away. Mine was over 1000 for ISCI

Chooklass · 26/01/2020 13:07

@Dia12 That's a great result - well done! I don't know how I'd cope without my knitting! I think hobbies in general are probably good at this time xx

OP posts:
Chooklass · 26/01/2020 13:12

@jcurve That's weird! I'd be calling and checking.

In case it's of interest to anyone - we were going to do ICSI because of male factor, but his sample on day was normal and I had enough eggs to do split cycle, so they did 6 IVF and 4 ICSI. There was same fertilisation rate between the two (50%) and the high quality one put back in was from IVF. I'd always thought ICSI would work better but not necessarily for everyone!

OP posts:
rainbow178 · 26/01/2020 13:23

@Chooklass that's interesting that ICSI got the same fertilisation results. Fingers crossed they all keep growing for you! Do you know when ET might be?

If it's a day 5 transfer, do they count EC as a day or is it day one the day after collection? Thanks

Chooklass · 26/01/2020 13:58

I had a day 3 transfer yesterday @rainbow178 and I think today counts as day 1pt. I was initially really upset when they called me in on day 3 as I thought it meant only one had survived, but it was because there was one much higher quality than the others. Still got 3 ok ones and one 'small, slow' one growing in lab and I'll find out if any are freezable on Tues. x

OP posts:
rainbow178 · 26/01/2020 14:13

@Chooklass how do you feel today? So what day was your EC? That's so good that you have some left as well for maybe freezing. Everything crossed for you 🍰

Chooklass · 26/01/2020 14:25

EC was on Wednesday @rainbow178. I'm a bit crampy and tired but feeling much better than I was after EC. Think the downside to a day 3 ET is having less time to recover before they start poking about again 😂. It feels good to have that part done but the waiting and wondering now is tough! I'm not back in for testing until 5th - so far away! How are you just now? X
