IVF in Feb/March 2020?

waitingforarainbow · 19/12/2019 08:01

Hello! I'm just wondering whether there are others starting their IVF journey in Feb/March 2020.

I am dealing with secondary infertility (male factor) and we have been TTC#2 for 16 months. We conceived naturally by some miracle back in July, but sadly had an early miscarriage (my third in total). We're now waiting to start ICSI IVF in early February.

Would love to hear from others doing the same. x

Good luck tomorrow @youngatheart00

@yorkshirehope fingers crossed for you! How are you feeling after?

PickleKid · 27/02/2020 20:42

Egg collection tomorrow. Had 8-10 good eggs Wednesday but there might be more now. Bit tender and want them out!

SpyroC · 27/02/2020 21:07

Welcome @takingthistooseriously I am early thirties with low AMH too. This is also my 1st cycle. There were a few of us talking about the lovely videos a few weeks back. Don't worry you soon forget most of it the scary stuff!

@Robson13 I hear you on feeling that life is on hold. It's a catch 22, on one hand you don't want to book too much stuff up but on the other you don't want infertility to take over your life, especially if things don't go ton plan. You can't win!

@jodesxx I told my husband I didn't expect him to come all the time as it's hard enough for me getting out of work. However, at my last scan I was given bad news and it wasn't very nice being alone so he is going to try and come if possible. It's difficult though isn't it.

That makes sense @PineappleC . I doubt I'll have enough follies for it to cause an issue! Congratulations on the 100% fertilisation- that's amazing! 🙌🏻

@confused107 I will (hopefully) be starting 5 amps of menopur on Wednesday. I'll be glad to move on from DR but I'm not looking forward to all the mixing and injecting. I've DR with nasal spray so will be completely new. I responded really quickly to letrozole so I'm hoping they'll scan me sooner as it worries me it's so long after starting too. I hope today's injections went ok x

Good luck for tomorrow @Youngatheart00

takingthistooseriously · 27/02/2020 21:36

Thanks @SpyroC it seems like those videos are designed to put you off! mine also thought I needed to be warned about the risks of hurricanes and earthquakes affecting the clinic... in yorkshire Hmm Good luck for your first cycle!

Hi @jcurve I hate CD1, hope you are doing ok.

congrats @PineappleC!

jodesxx · 27/02/2020 21:37

@SpyroC that's more what I'm worried about. He'll be there on Monday which is when we are more likely to have bad news/make decisions like the last time. I know he can't get time off easily but it's just frustrating for me as I can. Well work had a grumble today about me booking the next couple of days off!

For some reason I feel really emotional today. Like I was literally nearly in tears earlier today. Could this be the meriofet? Last time of fostimon I was really tired but didn't feel really emotional. I'm a little tired but it's just my emotions!! I'm also really trying hard not to stress but that isn't going to well!

Youngatheart00 · 27/02/2020 21:45

@jodesxx yes highly likely the drugs, plus the emotional stress of going through any medical treatment. Sucks that your work aren’t being supportive. I had that last time around.

jodesxx · 27/02/2020 21:55

@Youngatheart00 that's a bit of a relief!! My office manager is quite good and she seems understanding that I'm needing time off. I've not said why and she isn't asking questions. But my supervisor is the opposite and it's quite frustrating! If it doesn't work this time I think I will have to say something unfortunately

luby89k · 27/02/2020 22:36

@Robson13 Hey i'm on day 5 of buserlin but i unfortunately i do have an EC.

@lyndseybabybrain hey, i am on day 5 of DR so i still have a long way to go. Feeling ok at the moment. Dr said i will start to notice day 7. Iv defo got a lot better at injections. Had to do one in between clients today, so iv defo got faster. Not looking forward to the bloating. Did anyone notice?

@WarriorSmith 64 eggs. that's crazy!! let's hope top quality! Can't believe 34 have fertilised that is amazing!

@confused107 quick question. Does 6 amps mean that u have 6 individual bottles? So does that mean 6 injections? Sorry i'm slightly naive. They ain't showing me till the 11th and said i'm on 3?

@PineappleC 8!! Well done!! amazing result.

@41trying my dr said dr could delay it a few days and the drugs could make symptoms different. So fingers crossed for AF

What are all these videos you guys have been watching? Should i be watching them ?

ChatWithMe · 27/02/2020 22:50

Just read almost 2 days worth of posts. I kept wanting to reply to various people but then once I got to the end I couldn't remember who had said what. Thanks to everyone who has replied to me and sorry I can't reply directly! Confused

I'm just reading about Menopur as I didn't know it comes in different packs. The clinic told me they use 1200iu packs that would make up 4 doses at once for me (I'm on 300iu per day). Asda said they have stocks of 75iu and 150iu so I think I'm getting single vials of 150iu (so I'm taking 2 each day to make 300iu dose). As I understand it, one "water" is enough to mix all of the powders in one and therefore it's only one injection of Menopur each night.

Is that what everyone else is doing when they get single vials of 75iu or 150iu to make up to 450iu doses??

The cost for this IVF cycle medication will total £1550 I've estimated if I get a BFP and take Lutigest to week 12... So freakin expensive!!

confused107 · 27/02/2020 22:58

Trying to catch up. Congratulations on all the egg collections and embryos on board. Love and baby dust to you all xx

@luby89k with the menopur you have the solution then the actual menopur is a powder, so you squirt the same liquid in and out of the number of amps you need. One injection and the same amount of fluid but it's just getting more concentrated if you get what I mean? Managed it on my own tonight. Think I did ok but I'm paranoid about not getting all the liquid out each time and wasting drugs, then not responding as it's not all in my system, but then I like to worry and I can only do my best.

@takingthistooseriously those videos are hard work. I suppose always have to warn you about everything, even the very unlikely and if I'm honest I do feel that I have a better understanding this time after watching the videos. I asked the nurse if there were videos of how to do the injections on there. There aren't. In my opinion that would be much more useful!

Well tonight I've had a lovely evening with the holistic therapist. I had a relaxing aromatherapy massage, hot stones, a bit of chinese cupping on a sore shoulder. Also some myofacial work and breathing exercises. She even had me chanting a mantra 'I am well, I am whole, I am strong and I'm healthy'. She even (kind of) congratulated me on my low AMH. Said it was a good sign that my body has been well and ovulating for years and although it might be harder it's no reason not to get pregnant. Kind of threw me a bit thinking of it in such a different way. I don't know what to think. It's completely different to what I imagined but I felt like a million dollars afterwards so I'm going back next week for more reflexology.

luby89k · 27/02/2020 23:21

@confused107 i'm sure you have done it right. it's just a lot to take in isn't it. yeh i think i understand i was panicking, thinking that would mean i take 4 injections a night haha. not looking forward to starting those then. annoying they can't be simple xx

luby89k · 27/02/2020 23:22

@confused107 ps where are you based that holistic lady sounds amazing! think i want to visit her!!!

StartingAgain33 · 28/02/2020 09:29

Went for day 10 scan today....one dominant follicle at about 16mm, and another 9 above 10mm but maybe only about 3 above 13mm. She reckons more stimulation over weekend and then final scan / trigger on Monday. Worried they're only going to get 2 or 3 now! I know numbers isn't everything but quite disappointing given my last cycle scan when preparing for this I had 22 follicles!

confused107 · 28/02/2020 09:56

Thanks @luby89k we will be alchemists after this. I'm in Staffordshire

@StartingAgain33 don't loose heart. A lot can change over a few days and it's often the case of quality over quantity

PineappleC · 28/02/2020 10:45

Thanks so much everyone 😊 This is such a lovely group and I'm really grateful for your support and well wishes. I just need to stop myself from going crazy wondering how they're doing now!!

@WarriorSmith yes it sounds like we're at the sane stage. How are you doing? I feel mostly back to normal but still a bit achy when I "strain"! I'm hoping to have a fresh transfer 🤞

@SpyroC the injection mixing becomes second nature really quickly, so please try not to worry x

jcurve · 28/02/2020 10:58

@ChatWithMe yes that’s right! We had a right bobble with Menopur and smashed a glass liquid ampoule. It turns out that as long as the powder dissolves clear, there’s enough liquid in the mixture to do the injection. Three vials of water is too much for one injection so you would have to do 3 injections unless you split the water amongst the powder bottles.

Make sure you are comfortable with snapping the Menopur ampoules - get your nurse to show you how.

ChatWithMe · 28/02/2020 11:20

Hi jcurve what dose of Menopur are you on per day? Like I said I'll be taking 300iu per day. Doc wanted me to do 450iu but research shows no increase in live births over 300iu and it would have cost an extra £500 I've discovered so glad I said 300iu please.

takingthistooseriously · 28/02/2020 11:36

@confused107 yes your holistic lady sounds wonderful! I would love that. Am currently doing acupuncture but I'm not sure I find it that relaxing tbh although it is doing an ok job of getting me used to needles!

jcurve · 28/02/2020 11:43

@ChatWithMe on my first round (waiting for my second to start) I was on 150 Menopur in the AM and 100 Gonal-F in the PM. I have a lowish AMH.

granddesigns · 28/02/2020 11:57

Hi all - another step closer to getting started! After a long month and a lot of vitamin D tablets and sprays we have reached the required level and now await AF - clinic seems to have rules about whether you start with the pill or injections based on what day of the week AF arrives. Never before have I wanted her to turn up so much! If it's today or tomorrow it's injections, if it's Sunday it's pill for nearly a week! Hopefully soon there'll be all those questions to ask and experiences to share on here rather than waiting in the sidelines like I have been since October! Such mixed feelings about getting started now! Seeing my acupuncture lady this weekend to get me in best possible place to start.

confused107 · 28/02/2020 13:37

@chatwithme that's really interesting about the dose of menopur. I'm on 450 and never thought to question it and the menopur cost like £1500 alone!!!

ChatWithMe · 28/02/2020 13:58

Thanks jcurve. I've heard those two meds mixed before. Interesting how such variety in what consultants prescribe.

Hope you get a pill granddesigns. Glad vitamin D in range now!

Well confused107 maybe I'll be kicking myself if my follicles don't develop as well. It might work out better for you, who knows?? IVF is expensive so hope we all get our BFPs x

41trying · 28/02/2020 15:56

Afternoon all,

I hope everyone is doing ok. Af finally shows her face today so DR Scan booked for next Thursday. Let's get this final show on the road, so to speak

jodesxx · 28/02/2020 18:25

Had my scan today and follicles are growing and more of them. There were 7/8 above 10 and all between 10 and 14. They said they are just being slow so will probs just take longer to egg collection. I start in cetromide tonight then another scan Monday. They reckon I'll have another on Wednesday then egg collection end of next week. I'm a bit more reassured but still worried they are on the small side and there are not as many of them.

SpyroC · 28/02/2020 19:17

@jodesxx I just told my work. It would have been really awkward trying to get out with vague excuses otherwise. Tbf they have been really supportive. I know some places have an ivf policy too.

Ah that nakes a lot of sense about the different size bottles @ChatWithMe Not sure why they've given me small bottles for a high dose! 🤔. I'll find out how I'm doing it on Wednesday. I worked out the cost too, it's part of the reason I'm happy to try the maximum dosage route as it's my one nhs round-makes financial sense to try this way first IYSWIM.

@confused107 I'm hoping I will just be able to make 1 highly concentrated syringe then. I was wandering how it all worked but resisted google. Holistic therapy Thursday sounds lovely!

Thanks @PineappleC I feel a lot better reading everyone's experiences on here.

Congratulations on the vitamin D increase @granddesigns

I'm glad the witch showed up @41trying out DR scans will be one day apart.

I hope everyone else is doing well. 🙌🏻 for the weekend x
