Hi, has anyone had fertility treatment here? What was their experience and success rates? Asking on behalf of a friend who is currently having treatment there for underlining gynaecology issues (fibroids/endometriosis) and she’s been referred here. She’ll be going down the route of donor sperm and possibly donor egg too because of her age (44).

Any feedback from people who have had treatment there would be great.

Thanks in advance.

@PJ77 that's good to hear. Yep the clinic is in London and they are really nice there. In a way Covid has worked to our benefit because before Covid the egg collection would be done at Croydon and then you would have to transport your eggs to the London clinic. Now it's all done there.

Redcobra · 14/11/2021 09:45

@PJ77 Aww man! January seems so far away - I knew I was being too optimistic. I'm gonna keep pushing them, I've been on zoladex injections for 11 months now & the max is 6mths. Side effects are getting worse so they really can't keep delaying

JeanieJ · 02/12/2021 21:18

Hey guys,
Have my lap scheduled for next week (private) & got the call today that i have my IVF criteria appointment in Jan. Anyone know what I should expect & how long things usually take after?

Xx

Redcobra · 02/12/2021 22:26

@JeanieJ

They might ask you to bring a sperm sample. I had a scan a couple weeks ago where I was supposed to do IVF funding form but they just checked my ovaries & took a blood sample. I'm guessing my funding appointment will be in Jan as well.

Orlane · 03/12/2021 10:32

@PJ77
I had the IVF appointment as well and indeed it’s a lot to digest! All the injections, scan, test…
Felt a bit overwhelmed
But fingers crossed things will move fast in January

PJ77 · 03/12/2021 10:38

@JeanieJ yay! Great news you are booked in, is it with Mr G? Ask him to flush your tubes with dye at the same time if you've not had a dye test before. I hadn't had a HyCoSy or HSG before so the morning of my surgery I asked him if he could flush my tubes and then he made a note to do it.
The IVF funding appt should involve doing all the paperwork to be sent to the CCG. the following appointment which was 7 weeks later for us (although I understand that was quite a long gap compared to other ladies' experience here) was to explain the role process and the scanned me to check that the polyps that were drained during my surgery hadn't come back.
We've another appt next week to be shown how to do the injections and we will collect all the kit and the sharps bin to take home with us ready to start in Jan.

PJ77 · 03/12/2021 10:42

@Orlane oooh, are you starting in Jan as well?? I found it really overwhelming at the appt and a bit scary. I've also just told my manager at work that we are getting IVF because I'll be needing to go to the clinic at various points for scans and tests during the process. Turns out she has had IVF to conceive her son Smile which I didn't know before

JeanieJ · 03/12/2021 10:53

@PJ77 thanks - that's super helpful 😊 we were just told to both come along with our passports & that it'll take an hour ... and there may be some scans?
Yep, the Lap is with Dr G at Shirley.
I've already had a HSG which is why I'm getting the lap (suspected blocked tube)... but it's a lap & dye procedure, so assuming the flush will happen? I'll say it to him anyway.
That's nice about your manager? At least she understands ... my HR manager told me she'd conceived her twins by IVF & said she knew that it's really difficult ... it really does help having someone with lived experience.

Good luck for your cycle in Jan! Xx

JeanieJ · 08/12/2021 15:25

Hey guys,

Just had my laparoscopy this morning at Shirley - just a bit achey and tired- nothing painkillers and a cup of tea can't handle. I'm more sad that I'm not allowed run for 4 weeks. 😂

So, my tubes aren’t blocked and must have spasmed on HSG, but I have significant scarring all down my side from childhood appendicitis… its around my womb & bowels which has made some things stick together - he unstuck some adhesions from that, they removed a cyst & I have moderate endo that they removed… he said none of this was in the tubes, but around them & in my womb, so in theory should not impact fertility… so now I am ‘unexplained’ … it may delay my IVF funding app, as the timeframe is 2 years if you’re unexplained & I’m under that … but we’ll see what happens… the appointment is still in the diary.
Hope everyone's good!

Xx

PJ77 · 08/12/2021 22:01

Hi @JeanieJ ! Hope you're feeling alright after the op! I remember feeling sooo uncomfortable with the gas and bloat. Sounds like he did a lot, were you expecting there to be endo? Xx

JeanieJ · 09/12/2021 10:03

@PJ77 ... yeah, I'm really feeling the pain today ... guess the morphine really helped yesterday 😣
Hopefully it'll go away in a few days Xx
I did not expect the endo at all! I have normal period pains, but I guess endo can be asymptomatic 🤷🏻🤷🏻
Xx

Hi all,
I'm with Croydon and had initial appointment on 23/11, scan on 3/12 and bloods on 6/12 and been told that I will now be getting a nurse appointment to go through the funding if my bloods are ok but have you any idea how long that takes? I know my blood results must be back as it's been 2 weeks but I've not heard anything. They themselves were keen to crack on because of my age.

I realise I'm a bit impatient but seeing people whizz through and being told we might go for IVF in March/April might have given me false hope...

JeanieJ · 21/12/2021 08:15

Hi @Iwouldlikesomecake
For me ... in mid Nov, the doc said he'd ask the nurses to book in my funding appointment - they called me beginning Dec and my appointment is early Jan (hopefully Covid doesn't cancel).

My initial appointment was April, all tests were done in May, results July and then I had to wait for laparoscopy which happened in Dec (went private for that).

Sounds like things are moving swiftly for you 🤞🏻 hope you get an a call from them soon! Xx

Iwouldlikesomecake · 22/12/2021 17:57

Thanks @JeanieJ. I called them today and it wasn’t good news; my AMH has come back 4.3 and it needs to be 5.4 so I don’t qualify for nhs funding.

Honestly feel really fucking shit about it because I know so many people my age who’ve had no issues or had a chance at nhs ivf. The irony is that till not long before covid Croydon didn’t fund any IVF so we never pursued it as it would have been a dead end! And then I’ve been working flat out in the hospital ever since so it’s not been my first priority, that’s been ‘try and help people not die of covid’ :(

Sorry to hear that, I know how frustrating it is. When they started funding, we were on the cusp of the age bracket, then with covid delays and more tests needed, we now don't qualify. Can't afford private either, so just hoping for a miracle. Sorry, not much advice.
Jessica05 · 24/12/2021 08:09

Hi all,

I hope you are all well.

Any idea how many transfer we are allow/can on the nhs?

JeanieJ · 24/12/2021 08:59

@Iwouldlikesomecake really sorry to hear that 🙁 hope you're ok Xx

JeanieJ · 24/12/2021 09:02

@Jessica05 as far as I remember we get one round in our CCG, which is a fresh & frozen transfer ➡️ swlondonccg.nhs.uk/your-health/infertility-and-assisted-conception/

PJ77 · 04/01/2022 13:50

Hi guys, hope everyone is keeping well..
Wondering if anyone could help.. due to start IVF this week, my period has arrived but I'm struggling to know what day of the cycle it really is. TMI coming up by the way.
The clinic said to start injections on day 2 of cycle, if you count day 1 as a light amount and day 2 as full flow. Well yesterday in afternoon/evening I had some very light brown blood, some of it quite thick but still a small amount. I woke up with a dry pad but by 10/11am was suddenly in full flow. Is this day 2 or day 1!! Have tried contacting clinic but no luck. If there's anyone who has been through similar please let me know xx

Jessica05 · 04/01/2022 15:00

@PJ77 day2 is when you are in full flow.
Are you doing injections for egg collection?

PJ77 · 04/01/2022 15:03

Thanks @Jessica05, haven't heard from clinic but more I've thought about it and spoken with husband I think today is the day to start injections and will arrange to go into clinic tomorrow for baseline scan:-) am doing Gonal F injection for egg stimulation!

Jessica05 · 04/01/2022 15:07

@PJ77I count day2 as when I’m I’m full flow.
Try to call the nurse directly, did you call them for the baseline appointment for tomorrow?

PJ77 · 04/01/2022 15:25

I've just got through to a nurse and they said start injections tonight and booked appt for Thursday! Eek

Jessica05 · 04/01/2022 17:20

@PJ77 that’s great. Good luck with the injections. Hope everything goes well.

Im also waiting for my period to start treatment..

PJ77 · 04/01/2022 20:19

@Jessica05 that's exciting! I just did my first injection, it was better than I thought it was going to be x
