Hi, has anyone had fertility treatment here? What was their experience and success rates? Asking on behalf of a friend who is currently having treatment there for underlining gynaecology issues (fibroids/endometriosis) and she’s been referred here. She’ll be going down the route of donor sperm and possibly donor egg too because of her age (44).

Any feedback from people who have had treatment there would be great.

Thanks in advance.

@Redcobra sorry I had embryos frozen not eggs. I had my EC 3 weeks ago and we have 4 embryos.

I have been taking co-enzyme q10, vitamin D, vitamin C and folic acid for over a year now

Redcobra · 17/10/2021 20:41

@Tillybabs That’s reassuring for me. I know the number of viable embryos can reduce massively from egg collection so I’m trying to maximise the quality of my eggs. During laparoscopy they didn’t touch my ovaries so that’s a good start.

Tillybabs · 17/10/2021 21:01

@Redcobra I'm happy with that amount. I'm 40 and so I was already told eggs decline at that age etc. They collected 16 and 9 fertilised and we ended up with 4 that made it to blastocyst and are good quality

JeanieJ · 18/10/2021 09:06

Hey guys,

Have you guys had any luck booking appointments with Dr G?
I'm trying to get in touch with him to discuss my options. I got through to a fertility nurse, but she was so vague when she spoke to me that I really don't feel filled with confidence.

Which numbers do you guys use?

02084013586
0208 401 3000 ext 4574
02084013983

Thanks, :)

JeanieJ · 18/10/2021 09:17

@Redcobra - I started taking coQ10, Vit D, Vit E on top of my preconception multi vits. Not sure if they're making a difference to my fertility, but I've really seen a big difference in my mood since taking the Vit D.
Recommend reading 'It starts with the Egg', it's super useful.

Redcobra · 18/10/2021 09:54

@Tillybabs That’s fantastic! I’ll be happy with at least 15 eggs collected at this point.

@JeanieJ I read that book too and while searching for all the different supplements, I found that Proceive Max had most of them in high amounts and started on them straight away. Well not straight away actually, there were some transport delays with Brexit but afterwards it was easy to source.

Tillybabs · 18/10/2021 19:53

@JeanieJ I have those numbers and also 0208 401 3000 ext 4380

PJ77 · 18/10/2021 20:52

@Redcobra my husband and I have been taking the him and he pregnacare conception supplements, I've consistently taken them for about a year and a half. My husband is less consistent but when we went for our IVF paperwork appointment last month the nurse told him to take them properly (I.e. daily) and he has. She also said to cut down (or cut out) alcohol, we don't drink loads anyway to be honest but have cut down even more. How is everyone else doing on that front?

JeanieJ · 18/10/2021 21:12

Thanks @Tillybabs I actually got through to him today which was a big surprise. He said the waiting lists are just long at the moment & he can't really control it. I totally get that a lap isn't high priority at the moment, but it still sucks to be in the dark.
I asked him how much it would cost to get the lap done private, so the other Hospital are calling me tomorrow. I don't really think we can afford it, but we'll see.
I asked about a waiting list for IVF & he said he could refer me, but I should get the surgery first regardless.

He said someone would get in touch about an IVF appt, but I think I'll call back & ask if we could wait a while until I know when I'm getting my surgery because I'm not ready for IVF quite yet. I hope they don't get annoyed with me 😬 my gut instinct wants me to hold out for a bit longer.

@PJ77 I gave up alcohol totally for 5/6months, but now I have the occasional drink when AF is around. I cut down my caffeine lots too. I have one normal cup a day & then switch to decaf.
My husband doesn't drink loads either & he's on wellman tablets, Vit D & Vit C.

We're generally pretty healthy & are mostly veggie/pescatarian, but that doesn't stop us from having pizza every so often 😉

Tillybabs · 18/10/2021 21:30

@JeanieJ what is the lap for? I'm really hoping I don't need one. I'm already having to wait for the MRI and hysterocopy. I haven't even had an appointment for the hysterocopy yet.

I would be interested to know how much it costs for private. Would you mind sharing that once you know?

I hardly drank at all during lockdown and don't generally now. I didn't at all whilst having my injections for the EC

JeanieJ · 18/10/2021 21:43

@Tillybabs they think my right tube is blocked. The dye didn't flow through in the HSG. Happy to share once I know. Like I said, I dunno if we can afford it, but I just want all the info 🤷🏻

That's annoying you have to wait, but positive they you've already done your EC etc 🙂 Hopefully hysterscopy doesn't have that long a wait.

I think the lap is taking a while because of the backed up waiting lists for covid and I would assume mine is considered an elective surgery which is not a priority right now. There's ladies who have been waiting since April & still not been seen. 😶

One nice thing did happen on the phone today. All the fertility nurses were cheering in the background because one of their patients gave birth. It was really touching 🥲

Xx

Tillybabs · 18/10/2021 22:04

@JeanieJ that's so lovely. I hope that's us one day

Tillybabs · 18/10/2021 23:43

@JeanieJ how did you get through to Dr G? I really want to know the hysterocopy waiting time. I remember reading it was a month but I've not had a letter yet so it must have increased

Redcobra · 19/10/2021 05:52

@PJ77 I’ve managed to cut out all alcohol this year so I’m hoping my body is healthier than ever now.

@JeanieJ @Tillybabs The waiting lists for non-urgent surgery are being worked through now so hopefully not too long. At Croydon Elective Centre where you’ll go, they were churning through patients with various procedures. The lady opposite me was called to come in a day early to fill a cancellation.

Now I’m hoping they don’t dawdle with the IVF.
FX for all of us ladies

JeanieJ · 22/10/2021 21:09

@Redcobra that sounds promising 🙂

@Tillybabs sorry for slow reply, I just called the clinic, I think it was just the timing that they answered me tbh.
I got a price for my lap to do it privately- it was 4.6k 🤢. We don't really have the money, but could save up (currently been renovating our house for the past year).
It's just such a gamble, pay now & get it done in a few weeks, or wait for the NHS & not know when 😑
I'm gonna call next week & see if someone will speak to me or at least give me a number for the waiting list dept. I dunno how you guys feel, but I get really stressed on when I speak to them because it's so infrequent & rushed. Then I feel under pressure to make decisions quickly. 😬
Don't want to start the IVF process until a few months after the lap regardless because there's a chance it might help me 🤞

PJ77 · 22/10/2021 21:37

Hi @Tillybabs, who gave you the quote (which hospital/ consultant?)
I don't know if you saw my posts a couple of months ago but I was in the same position waiting to have a lap done on NHS, and I ended up going private with Mr G to do the surgery at Shirley Oaks because it was becoming a very long wait. I had a laparoscopy and hysteroscopy for under 4k.
It's been two months since the lap and removal of endo, and we are trying naturally for a couple more months. I spoke to the clinic today and waiting for the CCG to confirm we meet the criteria for IVF, hoping to start treatment in the new year

Tillybabs · 22/10/2021 22:08

@JeanieJ gosh that's a lot of money! Maybe shop around and see if it's cheaper elsewhere?

@PJ77 I don't think you were meant to tag me

I still haven't been given an appointment for my hysterocopy but I don't think the wait time for that is as long as the lap if I'm right?

JeanieJ · 22/10/2021 22:10

@PJ77 yup, it was Dr G at Shirley BMI 🤔
The price does say it's an estimate & is confirmed after discussion with consultant 🤷🏻 I want them to clarify that my care is continued with Croydon after anyway, so need to go back with a few questions anyway.
How was your lap? Did you know you had endo before?
One of my tubes is potentially blocked (didn't flow in HSG). I'm not sure if I have endo coz I think I have normal period pains, but I only learned recently that endo can be a symptomatic.
Fingers crossed things work out for you! 🤞

PJ77 · 22/10/2021 22:16

@Tillybabs ah okay, see what they come back with! I was still able to continue care at the clinic after I had the surgery. I thought that they might find endo because a couple of cysts showed on my scan, but my periods seemed normal and not particularly painful! But they removed moderate endo, and drained a couple of polyps, and flushed my tubes which were clear. Dr G told us to try for 3 months after the surgery then go for IVF

Tillybabs · 22/10/2021 22:30

How long did others on here have to wait for their hysterocopy at Croydon?

Jessica05 · 22/10/2021 23:24

@Tillybabs my waiting list for hysterscopy was 2month wait from dec20 to feb21.

Can I please ask why are you having an MRI?

Tillybabs · 23/10/2021 07:43

@Jessica05 I have suspected adenomyosis so they do an MRI to confirm it.

Ok so really I should have mine before December but who knows with the waiting lists. I think I will call them next week to check.

Orlane · 23/10/2021 12:00

@JeanieJ I am in the same situation!!
I tried to call to know about the waiting list as well. The fertility unit told me they can see I am on the list but couldn’t tell me when… then I tried to call the admin and no one picked up!
Dr Shuba told me to do Lap first then wait a couple of months before IVF… so now I am just waiting… so frustrating
But 4K to do it in private Confused!! That’s the lot of money
Fingers crossed for all of us

PJ77 · 23/10/2021 14:02

It is so frustrating :-( I did get another quote from a consultant at Gatwick Spire hospital and it was 5k for a lap!

Tillybabs · 26/10/2021 09:44

Morning ladies

So I called this morning and have been told the waiting list for a hysterocopy is 3-6 months! I'm going to have to go private because I can't wait that long
