New March/April IVF thread.

I'm Alice, 34, TTC1 for 3 years 4 months. Currently 4 days into a short ivf protocol with max dose of stims as my AMH ran away last year. Its my only NHS funded cycle and my last chance to have a child that's genetically mine. /fingers crossed/

@AliceAbsolum thank you for the link! I love reading threads obsessively. Also listening to a fertility podcast. So much for a distraction.

Viletta · 08/08/2019 18:30

@AliceAbsolum what symptoms do you have? I have none.. full of energy, no sore b00bs, nothing.. last times I had lots of symptoms but got a bfn. So I'm kind of concerned I feel nothing at all, but also glad this time I feel different from the last. I put it down to FET meds..

Hopingforbabyd · 08/08/2019 18:31

@AliceAbsolum thanks for the link! Wow that's a lot of views! Crazy isn't it how many of us google away 🙈 I'll give it a good read.
@Hoping1 my goodness, that is a long time isn't it. Is this because your clinic has a waiting list? Or they are wanting you to do something in between? Maybe ring the clinic see if they can get you in sooner if there's cancellations? My wait from referral in November to first meeting was January 31st and then got started in April that was no wait times on clinic so maybe that is about right? Though it does seem very long x

WorriedButterfly · 08/08/2019 18:51

Hello @Hopingforbabyd I've not been that active as my next round isn't until Late September/October- but I am
Still keeping up with you all and keeping my fingers crossed, I just wanted to say you've described my exact symptoms after ET last time which was a bfp, so I would take it as a big positive. x

Hoping1 · 08/08/2019 22:06

I dont know why it so long just says top of waiting list appointment had loads of forms to fill in and take with us xxx

Viletta · 08/08/2019 22:27

Sorry don't want to be a downer but I've just read an article about a study that says it takes on average 6-9 attempts for a couple to get pregnant with IVF (study based on 250 000 women). I wonder if it's true.. it says that's how long a healthy couple would normally take 6-9 months (if trying every month). However on another tread I read 3 failed cycles mean implantation failure.. what are your thoughts on this?

Hopingforbabyd · 08/08/2019 23:58

@Viletta hmm, that's a really hard one. Personally, I wouldn't put myself through that many attempts but hats off to the average who do! I try not to read up on studies as it makes me quite anxious, particularly when most come up with endometriosis having near to not a very high success rate at all so I kind of block out the studies and like to believe that if the embryo is receptive to your body then they will implant. Completely understand the idea behind the matter of the 6-9 tries vs 6-9 months as that makes a lot of sense. I said to hubby that even though our last cycle failed technically that was our first "real" month trying as my tubes were completely booked it's like IVF is now our normal way of trying.
I'm a stronger believer in if your body is meant to accept a baby then it will and those embies are strong fighters, look at the awful people in this world who fill their body full of illegal drugs and they fall pregnant...and then there's us not even allowed to have caffeine 😂 Just my personal opinion but definitely a good topic for thoughts x

Hopingforbabyd · 08/08/2019 23:59

@WorriedButterfly lovely to see you back, keep with us for when you're ready to start your next cycle. Thank you for the reassurance it's so hard not to read into things. It's completely gone now. I'm a little late doing the pessaries tonight but I'll see if it happens again x

AliceAbsolum · 09/08/2019 03:31

@Viletta I think no symptoms is a good thing, no signs of AF can't be bad news.
Can you link to that study? It does directly contradict Reprofits statistics, but more importantly it contradicts NICE guidance, the NHS would not fund 3 cycles if there was not a good chance it would work. Was the study about older women using their own eggs?

I'm still mildy nauseated, tired and dizzy. Cramps have nearly completely gone, doesn't feel like AF is on the way anymore.
Really weird thing last night though, when I was in bed getting to sleep I had this hugely calm felt-sense that I was pregnant. I wasn't rationalising it or even thinking about it if you know what I mean, it was an intuitive knowing. Not sure what to make of that.
It's 3.30am....Confused

@mouse1234567 Hope you're having a lovely holiday!

Here is the link to the study jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2478204

It investigated data on both DE and DS.

At least I guess it's a comfort to know that with each attempt you get a better chance, if it's true.

Viletta · 09/08/2019 08:39

@AliceAbsolum hopefully your body indeed communicated with you in that way! Are your betas today? Sending you lots and lots of positive vibes!

I think I'm pregnant one moment and simultaneously cannot believe it. Will find out tomorrow. Too scared to test!

Viletta · 09/08/2019 08:42

I'm also in psychotically food mood. Laughing lots, very active and full of energy..

Viletta · 09/08/2019 09:19

@Hopingforbabyd I know, it's all so confusing.. I read that endometrium is receptive for a very short time. I guess the clinic knows better. I hope embryos are strong fighters and are not confused by the change of environment and don't have dna errors. I like the idea that trying and persisting increases your cumulative chances.. however the idea of 9 IVFs scares me. FET would be alright though.. it's just the 2ww that is horrid, otherwise in comparison it's not that bad. I wish I had lots of friaries but I only have one left. Hopefully the one that's inside sticks. Good luck to us all!

Hopingforbabyd · 09/08/2019 11:25

Best of luck to those ladies testing today or tomorrow! My brain has gone to mush and I've lost track of what day it is 😂🙈 I hate the tww nearly 1 week down...kinda x

Twiglet2353 · 09/08/2019 12:35

Best of luck ladies! This thread has almost reached its limit - are you starting a new one? Would love to follow all your progress x

Viletta · 09/08/2019 12:53

I'm on a reading research mission. Here is what I've found so far:
FET cycles trialed and no difference in success rates found compared to fresh cycles "Freezing embryos doesn't increase IVF success rate" New scientist 242, issue 3236 page 10

Trial drug improves IVF implantation, New scientist 240, 3199, page 20
Drug called nolasiban that blocks oxytocin hormone that results in better blood flow in the uterus, 45% of women in trial got pregnant compared to 33% in placebo group (800 women in total)

And my favorite! "Does stress affect IVF outcomes? A prospective study of physiological and psychological stress in women undergoing IVF" (Reproductive medicine online 39/1, pp93-101). So apparently no! That's a relief!

Viletta · 09/08/2019 12:54

I'd love a new thread.. what should we call it? April-August-October buddy group?

Hopingforbabyd · 09/08/2019 14:56

Aw! Guys! A second thread leading to third! We are too good 😊 yes that sounds like a good name @Viletta or maybe put in there "come join us from the TMI IVF board July/August/September" just a thought so we know which one as loads are named similar? X

Hopingforbabyd · 09/08/2019 14:57

"Come join us from the TMI IVF April board - Now July/August/September"
Something like that? X

Viletta · 09/08/2019 15:18

Sounds great! Shall we add "Come join us from the TMI IVF April board - Now August/September/October "?

I think most people who got bfn in August will skip September

AliceAbsolum · 09/08/2019 16:11

We are about to max out this thread so I've made another one and tried to tag everyone, tag anyone I've missed!

@Viletta "Does stress affect IVF outcomes? A prospective study of physiological and psychological stress in women undergoing IVF" LOVE this piece of research. Puts a close to all the 'just relax' bullshit out there.

I had my beta this morning, they're emailing it me soon. I'm going to wait until DH comes home at 6pm. Holding out to see if we can start the new thread with a BFP. Ah I don't know, it all seems surreal. What if you had a bag with one red coin and one gold coin and 42 times you picked out a coin and 42 times it was red, you would give up on picking up the gold one right?
