IVF / ICSI June/July 2019

Hello to the ladies reading this.

My husband and I had a successful pregnancy with a fresh cycle of IVF in 2017 and so we have a 13 month old son.

We had a frozen embryo transfer last month. Because we had success the first time round we kind of expected the FET to work. So getting a bfn last week was soul destroying.

Due to husband's preferences and clinic availability we won't be starting a second round of IVF until mid June 2019 (which means egg collection mid July). This means I have to wait until end of July for the first sign it's been successful or not.

Feeling sad and anxious. I'm turning 38 in July so not sure if any chance of having a second child if this next cycle doesn't work. I'm so desperate for our son to have a sibling and I've always wanted to have two children.

I wonder if anyone in a similar situation? It can be a very lonely time getting through each day during this long wait.

Thanks for your replies x

Hi @ChatWithMe, we can do a package with Access Fertility (which they should have pushed us towards the first time round..) but we get 2 rounds of ICSI for a set amount. If you don't have a baby at the end of the 2 cycles then you get a full refund.

It's not about the money I know that but I suppose it's some form of silver lining that we get that money back. I don't think we'll carry on after 2/3 failed attempts if it's not successful at the end!

Who are you all having treatment with? Our is Nurture Fertility

ChatWithMe · 17/09/2019 15:03

Wowsers! Full refund if no success. Sounds too good to be true. How much are they charging you for the 2 cycle ICSI package? I see your original clinic is Nottingham but the Access Fertility is London-based. Guessing you pay them and they pay your local clinic. Hope you get a baby rather than a refund but money back takes some of the worry out of it for sure! We're at Kings in London. They seem good so although it's expensive I think we'll stick it out with them.

It does sound too good to be true if only we had done that the first time round. They didn't put us to do that so I guess they're all money making in the end? We were just too naive thinking it would happen first go!

Yes we pay them and they do the funding to the clinic. I think 2 rounds was £12000 ish and 3 was £15000 but each time £1600 on meds on top. So much money but hopefully worth it in the end!! 😭

ChatWithMe · 17/09/2019 16:15

That's actually really good. I've kept records for our private IVF journey. Each fresh IVF transfer plus one frozen transfer totals £8500. As we also paid for a frozen transfer after free NHS IVF cycle, plus the IUIs we're going to do, we will have spent around £30k. It's all worth it if we get our son a sibling. In a way it's kinda worth it even if unsuccessful because then we know we tried our best (peace of mind). Maybe after this all over I'll kick myself for not trying Access Fertility :-/

Congratulations @Clueless21 and @facevalue . Great news.

I will be starting my next cycle in Nov. trying to lose some extra weight and on ubiquinol + DHEA regime. Surprisingly in less than a month(17th Aug) of starting DHEA I had 4 matured follicles on 3rd Sept and few antra follicle. I was only 6 days past since my period on 29th Aug. DHEA effect?

Unfortunately this cycle we decided to do hyCoSys, so didn't try to BD till ovulation had already started on 3rd.

Did a test today 11DPO came negative so just waiting for next cycle.

Welcome back navyaUK

I had a HyCoSy a couple years ago. It wasn't bad at all. The only painful part about it was we painted it with an endometrial scratch. So don't worry - it's a cinch! :-) The reason I had the scratch is cause I signed up for a research study. Maybe it helped cause then we had a successful pregnancy. Not sure why it worked for us the first time round. Now that we're having trouble I think it's my age affecting my egg quality...

facevalue · 17/09/2019 18:46

@chatwithme i also had a scratch as part of a study and did get pregnant but the actual study result said no significant evidence it helps so not recommended.

ChatWithMe · 17/09/2019 19:40

Oh that's interesting. Glad to know I don't have to go through that again! :-)

We are kicking ourselves for not using them the first time round! We just thought it would work straight off! God knows why they didn't even make the transfer, it's annoying they cannot tell us more!

Feels like all we're doing now it waiting for this and our lives are on hold a bit saving for the next one! Wish we could've started straight away but it felt like the longest 8 weeks ever as it totally consumes your life and then you have to carry on as normal after everything!

It's a hard process to get over and we haven't even heard from the clinic again since!

ChatWithMe · 18/09/2019 11:56

Yes it can get you down. Try to keep going. Baby dust for us all :-)

goodluck everyone x

hgdg2018 · 23/09/2019 11:35

Hi @facevalue

we're starting again in January! Need to save ££ plus need a good break from it as it literally consumes your every thought, physically and mentally for 8 weeks it's so draining!

Where are you at now? x

facevalue · 23/09/2019 13:15

@hgdg2018 wish you all the best and fingers crossed.

i'm waiting for my scan next week hopefully there's a heartbeat! it's still not a guarantee so i'm holding my breath x

hgdg2018 · 23/09/2019 15:05

@facevalue ahhh! fingers crossed i am sure it will be fine :) xx

Brambles7 · 23/09/2019 20:00

Good luck @facevalue. I really hope you have a heartbeat when you have your scan. Everything crossed!

Sadly it’s all over for me. I had some bleeding last week and a scan this morning confirmed that I’d had a chemical pregnancy. Devastated and can’t stop crying but we’ve got further than we’ve every got before.

hgdg2018 · 23/09/2019 21:05

@Brambles7 oh no I'm so sorry to hear that ❤️🙏 xx 🤗 there are no words to make you feel better xx look after yourself

ChatWithMe · 23/09/2019 21:49

Sorry for your loss Brambles7 - thinking of you Bear

facevalue · 23/09/2019 22:12

@Brambles7 omg ... i'm so so sorry babe.. my heart breaks for you ( i've been there) and it's ok to talk about it and be angry and say it out load FUCKING UNFAIR

i'm terrified but what will be will be xxx

Brambles7 · 24/09/2019 07:54

Thank you, really appreciate your kind words! This forum helps to make the world feel a less lonely place; people who understand and have been there.
It is so so so unfair, my DH would make such a wonderful father and we’ve wanted this for so long.

@facevalue everything crossed that you have a positive outcome.

hgdg2018 · 24/09/2019 08:21

@Brambles7 this forum has helped me so much and I felt really weird about writing at first! Although we have told close friends and family it's not always easy to talk to those people about it as they just don't understand. I've got such a big family and nobody else has struggled to get pregnant whatsoever so why do I? 😔

Will you be trying again or not? Xx

Brambles7 · 24/09/2019 19:41

@hgdg2018 it’s not easy talking to anyone who hasn’t been through it - they can mean well but there’s not that level of understanding of how tough and how heartbreaking it is.
And it’s that thing of it’s not fair, why me/why you!

We have 1 frozen embryo so at some point (not sure I can face thinking of when atm) we will try again. I’ve got weight to put back on and healthy eating to do. For now wine and chocolate.

ChatWithMe · 24/09/2019 20:59

Good luck for the frosty transfer Brambles7 when the time is right and you're sick of wine and chocolate ;-)

OP posts:
facevalue · 25/09/2019 08:26

@ChatWithMe " sick of wine and chocolates" haha can you give her a more realistic aim please.

@Brambles7 i knew a nurse with your name as a surname .. she was lovely so i always associate you with her x it's really good that you have a frozen to use next x i have nothing and never managed a freeze in 5 cycles 😭 i hope this one is stuck x will keep you posted when i have the scan if it's not too upsetting .. we shared a journey

hgdg2018 · 25/09/2019 10:50

Yeah, I didn't even get to the transfer stage as they didn't make it to day 5 so I have no frozen to use and have to start again with everything from scratch!

Fingers crossed for better success with us next time. x
