IVF / ICSI June/July 2019

Hello to the ladies reading this.

My husband and I had a successful pregnancy with a fresh cycle of IVF in 2017 and so we have a 13 month old son.

We had a frozen embryo transfer last month. Because we had success the first time round we kind of expected the FET to work. So getting a bfn last week was soul destroying.

Due to husband's preferences and clinic availability we won't be starting a second round of IVF until mid June 2019 (which means egg collection mid July). This means I have to wait until end of July for the first sign it's been successful or not.

Feeling sad and anxious. I'm turning 38 in July so not sure if any chance of having a second child if this next cycle doesn't work. I'm so desperate for our son to have a sibling and I've always wanted to have two children.

I wonder if anyone in a similar situation? It can be a very lonely time getting through each day during this long wait.

Thanks for your replies x

Hi Hope42019. Sorry you're feeling down. Trying for a baby can be stressful. I've definitely cried loads during this long process. It's hard to stay positive. It does take some time for HCG levels to rise once you get pregnant so maybe you should hold off testing until the day the clinic told you to test. I tested early last time and I think it stressed me out more staring at that awful one line on the test stick but at the same time wondering if it's just cause I tested too early. Also good just to use First Response cause it will show a positive result before other tests can. What day did the clinic tell you to do a pregnancy test?

@ChatWithMe thanks so much for reply and support are you having treatment atm and what day did you test last time i have made the mistake of keep testing from day 4 i dont even no how many time its been negative each one hurts abit more then the last my test day is not until mpnday i will try my hardest not to test till then my clinic say test after 11 days due to no trigger just would have thought by now i would have got a bfp if i was such stressfful times x

ChatWithMe · 18/07/2019 19:20

Yes we had ICSI this time but the failed transfer was a frozen embryo from the first round of IVF 2 years ago. I tested only a couple days early. So my negative was more certain than yours. You still have several days so stay strong! Easier said than done, eh? Distract yourself with films/TV/books and going out for walks in the sunshine. It helps to think about other things x

A bit of disaster on my side. I was supposed to take a trigger shot at 8pm today but the pharmacy never sent me the trigger shots and we only realized now. Egg collection was supposed to be on Saturday, but now we will have to do it Monday and hope the longest one waits for others and is not too matured

A very expensive mistake. I should have checked the medicine delivery

Super bummed and disappointed. Had a bit of cry !
why is Care not open on Sundays !!!

ChatWithMe · 18/07/2019 20:42

Yikes. That's no good. Shame you didn't realise. Well maybe the follies will grow a bit more by Monday. Good luck.

Good night all. Will message again on transfer day (Monday) x

@ChatWithMe looks like centricide didnt work for me either and i have started a LH surge. Doctor just turned my IVF into IUI for tomorrows so that we don't miss the ovulation.

Looks like I am not a good candidate with meds
But keeping fingers crossed for tomorrow's IUI and praying all goes perfect well from here!

Clueless21 · 23/07/2019 10:05

@navyauk that is really crappy on the part of the pharmacy! especially when you are paying top dollar. how did it go at the weekend? and @chatwithme you all good after yesterday?

ChatWithMe · 23/07/2019 13:33

Hope42019 - what was the pregnancy test result? I'm guessing it was yesterday. I know you were a bit worried it might be negative :-(

navyaUK - Shame you had a few hiccups along the way. I hope the IUI went smoothly and they caught you before the ovulation window shut.

Clueless21 - So, I had my fresh embryo transfer yesterday. It went as planned. Always a bit uncomfortable having someone stare at and shine a light onto your bits while you're lying in the most immodest position! Oh well. So, they put back a 3BB embryo on day 5. I test by August 2nd to see if it worked or not. Also they were ringing today (which is why I was postponing my post) to say we got a 5BB embryo frozen. So come August if I get a negative result I'll be asking to arrange the frozen embryo transfer asap. Trying to be hopeful! How's it going with your follies? x

Hi everyone. Hoping I can join in too! I had my egg collection last Friday and felt really rough all weekend. So bloated and uncomfortable, and couldn't find any comfy positions to sleep in. Started to feel a little better yesterday and now much better today. Embryo transfer is tomorrow. I was lucky to get 9 eggs and 7 were doing well on my last update yesterday, so fingers crossed they're hanging in there still.

Glad to hear your transfer went well yesterday chatwithme.

hgdg2018 · 23/07/2019 13:58

@Clueless21@ChatWithMe
I have NO idea why my emails were not letting me know that people had posted, sorry for not replying sooner! I feel rude.
I have got my egg collection on Thursday! Waiting for them to call me today about the trigger shot etc so REALLY nervous as not sure what to expect but excited! Smile

ChatWithMe · 23/07/2019 14:24

IceCreamSummer - Welcome to our group! What a great username too :-) Good result. Tomorrow will be quick and you'll be out the door before you know it, instruction sheet in hand. Good luck for testing day (next next Saturday I reckon)!

hgdg2018 - No worries! Glad you got my message. Good luck for Thursday. Please message the day after when you find out how many follies got fertilised :-)

@ChatWithMe I will do! Just had the call my trigger shot is 10pm tonight. At least no more buserelin or gonal F!!

IceCreamSummer · 23/07/2019 20:12

Best of luck for Thursday hdgd2018! It’s definitely a relief to finish the injections. Not because they are especially horrible - I just worried all the time I might forget one!

Thanks chatwithme Smile. It’s great news that you’ve got one embryo frozen too. So many conflicting emotions I’m sure - pleased to have one in reserve, but hoping you don’t need it.

Clueless21 · 24/07/2019 18:05

@hgdg2018 hey welcome back mate! good luck tomorrow. i had my first follicle scan today (day 9) and there are plenty there but they are all titchy so i have to go back friday to see if they have grown any. nurse didn't seem bothered, she said some women have to wait until day 15 and everything else (womb lining etc) was looking ok. how big were everyone else's follicles at day 9? weirdly they were having an IT system update whilst i was there and the IT woman was in the room whilst I was being scanned and asked if she could see... i said yes, i mean it's all pretty interesting isn't it? but anyway i am a bit worried that i'm going to now end up having extraction and implantation next week as i have 2 giant meetings i really can't get out of. does that sound right from a timings pov? i'll find out more on friday i suppose.. wonder if there will be any other random support staff hanging about then!

welcome @IceCreamSummer - how did you go today? and @ChatWithMe and @navyaUK you both just taking it easy for a fortnight now then?

hope everyone else is ok and taking care of themselves x

IceCreamSummer · 24/07/2019 21:18

Hi all. Had my ET today. Two embryos put in - the nurse said they were grade C and emphasised several times they were good quality. I wish I’d asked more questions though because C doesn’t sound like good quality to me. I don’t know if everywhere uses the same grading system?

There was another one which was D, so not good enough to use, but also some which they will call me about tomorrow to see whether they are good enough to freeze or not.

Had a bit of a dilemma just before the procedure when they wanted me to confirm how many to put in. I’m 40 so I’d always thought the recommendation was two but when I said go ahead and put both in, they emphasised twins was a realistic possibility. So hard to make those decisions and you’ll never know if you’ve made the right one or not. Anyway, I went for two in the end 🙂

IceCreamSummer · 24/07/2019 21:24

clueless21 it’s difficult managing it all around work isn’t it? I work in a very small office and have run out of excuses for why I’m late in, or have to disappear for two hours in the middle of the day. Like you, I found the uncertainty of timings difficult to plan for. I had to go back three times for extra scans until the follicles were big enough, so don’t be disappointed if they say you’re still not ready Friday. If yours follows the same sort of schedule as mine, at the final scan they will just declare themselves satisfied and then you have to do the trigger shot that evening. Then 37 ish hours later it will be collection day (need 2 days off work). Then 5 days after that, with luck, transfer day.

hgdg2018 · 25/07/2019 07:55

I had 3 scans to check mine in the end. 1 was at 7 days of taking the stims, they were very big I think the bigger ones were maybe 10/12 then went back 3 days later and even I could see the difference on them!! They were around 15/16 and then went back 2 days later. The smaller ones had grown but the bigger ones hadn't grown much in 2 days and then I haven't had another scan since then and that was Monday. Took my trigger shot 10pm Tuesday night and just about to leave to go to the clinic for egg collection. I'm lucky that I work in a small office and have done for 11 years so I have told my bosses and also my closest work colleague but we have told our closest family and friends about it too. If I've ever been late in the morning I just don't say anything and if people say are you OK I just say yes so I completely avoid their question lol.

Might seem rude but it's the only way I get around it!

@IceCreamSummer we can only have max 2 put it as we are under 35 I think over 35 you can have more put in? From what I've read anyway. We chose to put 2 in and freeze any others.

Too many decisions to be made for such a what if process isn't it?

IceCreamSummer · 25/07/2019 09:28

Hope all goes well today hdgd2018 Lots of rest and no chores over the weekend Smile

Just had a call from my clinic to say no embryos suitable for freezing sadly. So it's all on the two already transferred. Hopefully one or both (terrifying prospect!) are cooking away nicely.

How's the wait going chatwithme? Do you think you will test early or are you going to stay strong?

ChatWithMe · 25/07/2019 10:07

Hi again. Hope I reply to everyone - once several people post it's hard to keep track lol

Thanks IceCreamSummer - yes hopefully won't need backup follie ;-) Wow 2 embryos at once - must be better chances you get preggies :-) please post today after they say if any embryos can be frozen. Not sure how C grade can be compared with other grading system. So much variation amongst embryologists. Like I said mine were 3BB and 5BB (fresh and frozen respectively).

hgdg2018 - Wow you're having your egg collection as we speak! Exciting :-) Get some rest today. Tomorrow you'll feel better cause the anaesthetic will be out of your system. I felt a big groggy egg collection day. Let us know what they say when they ring tomorrow with how many eggs fertilised :-) Hopefully you get to put back the 2 you hope for. Twins are cute - they're just a handful lol

Clueless21 - Sounds like you're right on track. Shame you have important meetings next week. If you're ready at the scan tomorrow, then the earliest you could have your egg collection would be Monday I reckon as I doubt they do them on Sundays but maybe I'm wrong. So trigger shot would be Saturday night. I realise some people might need more rest but if you're anything like me you just need all day off for egg collection and back to work/normal tasks next day. Hopefully those meetings are days you'll end up being in. Fingers crossed!

As for me, I'm just trying to kill time (and stay cool in this miserable heat) and stay hydrated. Next Thursday feels far away so I just have to be patient!

IceCreamSummer - looks like you just posted before I sent mine! So you've answered that question (about whether they have any to freeze). Well we both have two embryos in that case, it's just yours are both inside of you hehe
