IVF / ICSI June/July 2019

Hello to the ladies reading this.

My husband and I had a successful pregnancy with a fresh cycle of IVF in 2017 and so we have a 13 month old son.

We had a frozen embryo transfer last month. Because we had success the first time round we kind of expected the FET to work. So getting a bfn last week was soul destroying.

Due to husband's preferences and clinic availability we won't be starting a second round of IVF until mid June 2019 (which means egg collection mid July). This means I have to wait until end of July for the first sign it's been successful or not.

Feeling sad and anxious. I'm turning 38 in July so not sure if any chance of having a second child if this next cycle doesn't work. I'm so desperate for our son to have a sibling and I've always wanted to have two children.

I wonder if anyone in a similar situation? It can be a very lonely time getting through each day during this long wait.

Thanks for your replies x

@hgdg2018 that is frustrating! Despite all the amazing science there is still so much that’s just about chance. There is prob loads more research to do and by the time our kids are having their own everyone will be having IVF and all the embryos will be augmented by microchips. At least there’s nothing they found to stop you going again. @Chatwithme im feeling a bit guilty as I indulged in Far too much extremely delicious wine last night - have my transfer tomorrow (still on atm) so it’s my last shout at least for 2 weeks. I’ll let you know how I go x

ChatWithMe · 03/08/2019 08:30

Haha glad you indulged a bit Clueless21 Hope it's great news in 2 weeks time to give us all a boost ;-)

quick update - 2 in the oven (they didn't actually give me an option although it's what i would have done given the choice anyway) and 5 in the freezer. the other 2 just didn't develop far enough in the 5 days to be realistically viable.

testing on 15th. am i the only one left?!

ChatWithMe · 04/08/2019 15:28

Wowsers Clueless21. That's the best result you could wish for at this point. It's all that good vegan food you're eating lol Thanks for updating us. I hope IceCreamSummer is ok as I know today was the final test :-/

Well hope the 15th brings awesome news!

Hey clueless and chat. Excellent news clueless!! Five in the freezer is amazing. Really pleased for you.

Today was my official test and unfortunately it was not to be for me. I was pretty resigned to it as I’d tested a few times. I’ll be back on the train as soon as I can be though.

It’s all on you now clueless! We need one success story from our little group 🙂

hgdg2018 · 04/08/2019 20:24

😔 sorry to hear that. Hoping that @Clueless21 will be our lucky one. Have done my best friends baby shower today, I was fine at the time and I loved organising it for her and being in control and sorting everything. Now feeling drained and sad and miserable.... 😢

ChatWithMe · 04/08/2019 20:56

Sorry to hear that IceCreamSummer. Hope you get to start your next treatment within the next couple months. This journey sucks sometimes.

Well done hgdg2018 for supporting your friend. That will be you one day soon and she can put a baby shower on for you :-)

all right ladies - will do my best for y'all! @hgdg2018 you are clearly a great mate and strong to boot - i'm not sure i would have been able to go through with it without collapsing into a jealous, angry, weepy wreck. great to hear @ChatWithMe and @IceCreamSummer talking in such positive terms too - onwards and upwards hey! will be in touch next week xxxxx

IceCreamSummer · 09/08/2019 10:52

How are you getting on clueless? Almost one week down, one more to go!

Clueless21 · 09/08/2019 11:27

I'm alright! Thanks so much for checking in. Lots of pseudo-preg symptoms thanks to the progesterone - my boobs are so swollen I look comical and I nearly puked at the smell of our cat's food this morning, plus I've had a few quite breath taking cramps that have literally stopped me in the street, but other than that, feeling much better to be off the injections (not nearly so bloated / sleepless / irritable) and just cracking on and trying not to count the days / hours / minutes.

Next Thursday looks like I will be getting up with the sparrows to fly to Zurich with work so I'm actually wondering whether to delay testing to the Friday as whichever way the pendulum swings for me I'll be in a bit of an emotional haze (and I can work from home on Friday to deal with any fall out....) I want to avoid doing it early if I can.

How are you doing now the dust has settled a bit around your test result, making any plans or just enjoying the chance to drink wine and eat Brie? x

IceCreamSummer · 14/08/2019 12:19

Thinking of you this week!

I can see why you wouldn't want to test on Thursday if you've got to be up and away early, plus focussed on work all day. Hope you can put it out of your mind until Friday then.

I've been for my follow up appointment at the clinic, and am booked in to try again. I have to have one full cycle first, so it will be end of August/early September before I can start counting down again to the meds.

Hi team

Finally some good news for mumsnet’s unluckiest IVF gang. 2 x pink stripes on the stick this AM.

I hope this gives you a bit of hope and doesn’t just reinforce the seeming random unfairness of it all!

Xxx

Ayannah · 16/08/2019 08:53

Wonderful news clueless! It gives us all hope (well probably shouldn’t speak for everyone else, but it gives me hope 🙂).

Wishing you all the best for a safe and healthy pregnancy. Congratulations!

ChatWithMe · 16/08/2019 08:54

A very good morning to you Clueless21! Congratulations on your exciting news :-) I am so happy for you. Statistically we had to have at least one positive result in our group as IVF is usually like 20% effective. Do look after yourself. Take it one day at a time. I bet you're wondering if it's a singleton or twin but you get to find that out in a few weeks at your viability scan I'm sure. Anyhow, sending you and your wee bump hugs and positivity xxx (and good luck for the other ladies in their next endeavours - maybe 2nd time's the charm!)

Sorry, that was me above. Forgot I’d name changed!

Clueless21 · 16/08/2019 12:57

Thanks ladies. Got to admit I did not think for one minute it would work so in a total state of shock (partner has not actually spoken more than about 2 words since breakfast and is looking very pale...)

The very very best of luck to you all next time x

hgdg2018 · 16/08/2019 16:58

YAY!!! Congratulations!! It's made me feel loads better, currently waiting for next period to get started again!! Flowers

navyaUK · 30/08/2019 10:46

congrats, wishing you a smooth sailing @Clueless21

Clueless21 · 16/09/2019 18:33

hi all - hope all is well - guessing some of you will have started your next cycle and so are probably on other threads and won't be checking this one... but just thought i would let you know that i had my viability scan today (i'm 9 weeks) and there were 2 little foetuses in there waving their stumpy arms around! am completely bamboozled. boyfriend was like 'how are we going to fit them in the house?' i am more worried about how i am going to fit them in me! anyway good luck to you all and wishing you all the best for the next go xxx

facevalue · 16/09/2019 19:05

@clueless21 congratulations - FANTASTIC news. I would love a twin! i got my BFP i'm 5+2 so waiting for a scan at 7 weeks so i'm holding my breath until then. wish me a healthy twin or triplet too please 😍😍 hahaha

you can do it. my sister and my best friend both had twins and they seem to cope and they r super adorable x goodluck

Clueless21 · 16/09/2019 19:14

ah congrats @facevalue!! good luck in a couple of weeks!!

ChatWithMe · 16/09/2019 19:16

Congratulations Clueless21 and facevalue!!! :-) Amazing news. I'm still not pregnant but trying to stay hopeful. By the way, when you guys see your babies on the 12 week scan you're gonna be in love! Much funner than the viability scan. Good luck x

We're not starting again until the new year! We need to save some more pennies for the next rounds to start so I just feel in limbo.

Twins!! WOW!! My husband is an identical twin it's so weird but that amazing news!!

I wouldn't want to join another forum/board so hopefully, we can all keep chatting on this one!! xx

ChatWithMe · 17/09/2019 12:54

Hi hgdg2018 - I'm happy to keep this thread going too. Still a few of us TTC. If I'm not pregnant by November we're going to do three rounds of IUI. There's no way it's gonna work if even IVF may not cut it at this stage but my hubby really wants to try it. Gotta keep him keen so we can do 2 more rounds of IVF next year (probably like April and August). Then we're officially giving up!! :-/
