IVF / ICSI June/July 2019

Hello to the ladies reading this.

My husband and I had a successful pregnancy with a fresh cycle of IVF in 2017 and so we have a 13 month old son.

We had a frozen embryo transfer last month. Because we had success the first time round we kind of expected the FET to work. So getting a bfn last week was soul destroying.

Due to husband's preferences and clinic availability we won't be starting a second round of IVF until mid June 2019 (which means egg collection mid July). This means I have to wait until end of July for the first sign it's been successful or not.

Feeling sad and anxious. I'm turning 38 in July so not sure if any chance of having a second child if this next cycle doesn't work. I'm so desperate for our son to have a sibling and I've always wanted to have two children.

I wonder if anyone in a similar situation? It can be a very lonely time getting through each day during this long wait.

Thanks for your replies x

All went OK and I'm now back home lay on the sofa (with a fan on me) watching a film. I don't feel too groggy and feel OK just a slight period pain type feeling atm but just had for paracetamol so hopefully that will go. Embryologist came and said the managed to get 11 out so that's good numbers and fingers crossed for our results tomorrow to see how they get on overnight!! Grin

They managed to inject 8 out of the 11. Only 3 fertlized overnight? She said all the eggs and sperm were fine and the ICSI process went as planned. So fingers crossed these 3 make it to day 4 and then day 5 to be put back in 🤞 don't know why only 3 fertlized, feeling slightly down if I'm honest but at least we have 3?

Fingers crossed for you hdgd2018. I think, no matter how you try to prepare yourself, it's hard not to feel disappointed when you feel things could have gone better. I'm a bit down that I didn't get any frosties, but have to just hope that one or both of the two transferred will take. The thought of doing it all again is a bit dispiriting. And I know that sounds ridiculous and self indulgent when this is my first attempt and some people have had multiple tries over many years. Just feel like time is not on my side.

How are you feeling in yourself after the procedure?

hgdg2018 - that sounds totally normal. 3 is good. Let's see if they can develop well by transfer day. You booked in tentatively for transfer on Tuesday? Those other ones must not have been mature enough or had some DNA issue I reckon. It's good they filter out the best as it increases your chances of a successful pregnancy. Fingers crossed.

To all - just thought I should give some advice during your 1.5-2 week wait. The progesterone they put you on during this time gives the same side effects as pregnancy so it's better if you don't Google every little symptom hoping it's a pregnancy sign. I found it stressed me out and wasted a lot of my time!

Also, I found a few films (documentaries and fictitious) that helped me come to grips with the unpredictability and sometimes realisation of IVF. Maybe you might want to watch them? Some bits really uplifting and life changing for me.

  1. One More Shot (Netflix docu film)
  2. Private Life (Comedy film on Netflix)
  3. YouTube documentary called Baby Makers: The Fertility Clinic - here's the link

Just wrote out 2 messages and I keep refreshing the page.... Ffs lol

Feeling OK in myself just period like pains every now and again.

You've both calmed my mind a bit. Yes it's only 3 but we only need 1 I think it's cos we had such high numbers to start I thought some more may have fertlized but I've got nothing to compare to as its alsonour first round.

Will check out those Netflix shows! Thanks for sharing.

Hope you both have a relaxed weekend and hopefully Monday will bring good news!!

hello all - had my 2nd scan today and i've got my extraction on tues which is a total result timings wise! i am taking the not-very-brave decision not to ask too many questions and just place myself in the hands of the experts as i think trying to google everything and compare myself to others is just going to send me barmy so i have no idea how many follicles i have ready or how big they are - nurses all seemed more worried about the new IT system than anything going on inside me anyway which i take as a positive sign :) let us know what the news is on mon @hgdg2018 and hope everyone has a nice weekend x

hgdg2018 and Clueless21 - Wow what a big day Tuesday will be for you both! :-) Hope you indulge in the suggested films this weekend :-) Indulge in anything entertaining for that matter. Doing fun leisure stuff is my game plan!

Oh and I hate page refreshes killing my messages too! Argh!

IceCreamSummer - whatever you're feeling just go easy on yourself. Whether it's your first IVF or tenth IVF! You can focus on your hopes and needs just like everyone else because we're human and never consented to infertility! I want a sibling for my son but if I try and don't succeed I will forgive myself and consider myself lucky.

@Clueless21 I also didn't ask too many questions but they showed me the chart on my second scan of how big they were. Also trying not to compare myself to everyone else as everyone is different! It's quite difficult though!

@icecreamsummer i agree with @chatwithme - it's not self indulgent to say what you want! especially on this thread which is such a helpful space for me to check in with other women having a similar experience - thank you all for sharing, it's so reassuring x

Thanks for your kind words chatwithme and clueless21. Hope you’re feeling OK hdgd2018.

I watched One More Shot last night thanks chatwithme. It was good - I’m doing this all alone so it’s reassuring to see other people going through the same processes and procedures. Feels like they medicalise (if that’s the right word) things more in America, full on GA for egg collection and then wheel chair to the car afterwards!

This wait until test day is dragging!! I’ve been having period type pains for the last two days but according to another thread on here you can’t actually have a period whilst on progesterone. Who knows though. Not long to go now until your test day chatwithme

Clueless21 - yes I'm finding it helpful having this online support group of ours too :-)

IceCreamSummer - glad you enjoyed watching that documentary. Yes they do over-medicalise things there it sounds like. And like you I get those same sensations in my uterus that I get just before having a period. It really is the progesterone.

Today I started crying as I got out of the shower. I had to wait til I stopped to do my makeup lol Just imagining how sad I'll feel on Thursday if I get one line on the test stick. Thought I'd share this with you guys cause maybe you get down about it sometimes too.

P.S. sounds like this is the order we'll get our results:

  1. Me first (yikes!) - 1/8/19
  2. IceCreamSummer - ?4/8/19
  3. hgdg2018 - ?10/8/19
  4. Clueless21 - ?15/8/19

Fingers crossed those are four happy days!

I feel like crying most days just incase it doesn't happen. Its obviously normal with everything we have to go through. I think my husbands finding it difficult too we can't wait for the call to update us tomorrow on our 3! Fingers crossed they are OK and still going strong for Tuesday. If they tell us we have none I don't know what I'll do? All of the past month for nothing as none could even be transferred.

It's very helpful having you guys here

Sorry to hear about the tears today chatwithme. Hopefully you’re feeling a little better now. Anyway, I’m impressed by the make up on a Sunday!!

You’ve got my test date right. It’s also the day I’ve got family coming to visit, one of whom is pregnant and blooming. It’ll be gritted teeth all day if I get a negative that morning!

I was naughty today and went and bought several early response test kits Blush

Clueless21 · 28/07/2019 16:56

OMG don't! I hadn't even thought about a test date yet. I don't even know if they'll be able to scrape anything out of me on Tuesday yet :) Just got the call from the nurse anyway - I have to stay up until 1.30am tonight to give myself the trigger shot - zzzzzz

i suspect all the hormones coursing through everyone's systems are not helping with the tearfulness! take care of yourselves friends. @navyauk how are you doing love x

IceCreamSummer - your message made me chuckle. Naughty naughty! :-D What day will you start your daily testing?? Not today surely!! You still have a whole week to go. Yes makeup everyday (mascara, undereye makeup and powder so going for the natural look lol) haha Anyhow, fingers crossed you get a bfp so you can have a fun time admiring your family members bump thinking about how it'll look on you!

No I’m not testing today. The instructions for my trigger shot say it stays in your system for 10 days, so that would be this weekend. I might test Wednesday.

Hi I'm new to this thread I'm 6days post 5day FET. Mine was a 3BB. I had a fresh transfer but had a BFN and then they thawed 1 of my two frosties and it didn't make the thawing stage. So if this little embroyo doesn't make it I'll have to do the whole cycle again. But what will be will be I won't give up on my baby! I'm suppose to test on the 2nd Aug but I think it will be OK to test on the 1st. I'm 31 DH 33 unexplained firtitily. We are both fit and well. I've never been pregnant before. Symptom wise I now and again experience very mild cramps and I mean mild, where I have to think about it! My body playing tricks maybe! And absolutely nothing else! With the fresh I had sore boobs and was bloated and nausea but that must have been from the meds as I had a BFN.
I've done acupuncture this time, eaten pineapple (although I ate this before) and apparently keeping your feet warm helps. So I've lived in socks since the transfer. So atleast I can say I've given it my best shot.

Morning everyone,

Had an update this morning and we still have 2 remaining and going strong! So we're booked in for 10.30am transfer tomorrow. Felt SO SICK this morning I was literally adamant to myself that none would have survived! Time to start thinking positive I think! Phew, feel loads better.

Fingers crossed they get to day 5!

Hi to Bailey2017. I think you're maybe just one day ahead of me. When is your test day? And navyaUK you're one day behind me. We're all so close together!

Hope Clueless21 stayed awake for her trigger last night Smile
