BFP after IVF: nervous ladies needed a handhold Part II

Hi everyone,

Think that the last thread for this topic reached its limit, so have started a new one.

Good luck to everyone who has finally got that longed for BFP!

This is a place for everything that comes after the 2WW: celebrating milestones, being (cautiously!) excited, symptom checking, worrying, sharing advice, commiserating bad news, generally keeping each other going, and willing each other along on our way to the 12 week mark.

A bit about me: 39 y/old, 0 DC, IVF ICSI cycle 1, first BFP since TTC, currently 6+0.

Look forward to meeting lots of people with new BFPs and sharing your journey!

@beherenow32 bump is measuring 50th centile. Everyone has a glucose challenge test at my hospital at 28 weeks! Trying not to worry. It is what it is and I will do anything as long as baby is okay...

Beherenow32 · 22/01/2019 20:57

@cannonball8726 ah right, so it must have came as a surprise! They only test you here if you are showing symptoms. Yeah, it may still be negative and if not, the hospital/ midwives will keep things safe xx

CritterTamer · 23/01/2019 10:03

Hi ladies

Just checking in after a rough few weeks - been really unwell with sinus, chest and throat infections, then to top things off has a scary red bleed on Saturday evening (just a few hours after our gender reveal scan which showed everything was fine!) Anyway had a very anxious couple of days waiting for an emergency scan but had this yesterday afternoon and both babies are absolutely fine 😊 had a low lying placenta confirmed which is probably the cause of the bleeding so will need monitoring for that going forward - hoping it will move up. I'm also joining the low iron club - midwife recommended Spatone liquid iron which seems to be OK so far - better than taking yet another tablet that the hospital want to prescribe.
20 week scan is on February 5th - already getting nervous!
Sorry to hear about the glucose challenge result Cannonball. I also have to have a GTT because my dad has diabetes.

HJ82 · 24/01/2019 17:49

@cannonball8726 I'm so sorry about your GTT, are these tests mandatory or just at your hospital? I'm at uclh and I've not be told about it- yet! I know what gestational diabetes is as a friend had it. She said it's just random and not from eating badly or anything. Have they told you the best options to get it down? Saw a fab osteo today to suss out pelvis and all good. I'll see her once a month for maintenance 😛 Got a new mattress and not waking in pain now. Feeling baby now, just little bubbles @Beherenow32 in the front of belly. Scan on Tuesday.

Hope you can conquer the glucose level situ dear! I'm sure you'll be fine!! I'm not actually iron deficient, I'm just taking it. Always have. Just taking more now I'm preggers. They don't want to test mine. Weird. I'll demand it in my next round of bloods, whenever that will be. 🤔 turns out all my weight gain has been to my belly (not bump) fat. So I'm now looking ridiculously huge at 19weeks 😂 it's hilarious really. It's the only place on my body that I gain weight usually 😱 I'll be falling forward in no time. My skinny legs won't cope lol.

@CritterTamer oh my what a massive scare for you! I'm so happy to hear all ok. My placenta was low too and I've not had my 20 week scan yet so I'll see if it's comes up. Hopefully yours lifts soon!!

Hi all - sort to jump on thee thread without reading fully, but can I ask a quick question...?
Have any of you stopped progesterone straight after getting your BFP?
I have had 3 miscarriages from ivf before, done all the tests, no obvious cause. I am now pregnant again from a fresh cycle and my clinic are telling me I can stop the progesterone now as no proof it has any effect after BFP. I'm obv scared to do so... but do trust my clinic - I'm just hoping some of you can tell me how far along you were when you stopped the pessaries? Thanks x

Beherenow32 · 24/01/2019 18:53

@Hobbes39 hi. Think I recognise your name from other threads. I stopped progesterone 2 days after BFP. I think it depends on which injection you used for a trigger shot...

@CritterTamer sorry to hear about your stressful time. I hope placenta moves out the way!

Third trimester is hard! I feel like I don’t feel movment as much some days. But the hospital said that placenta also gets bigger, and it’s anterior. Maybe just getting in the way!

Hope everyone doing ok now xx

Beherenow32 · 24/01/2019 19:02

Sorry. Think I worded that wrong... every trimester is worrying! 🙈

TheArtfulScreamer · 24/01/2019 19:29

@Behere I plan to pack my bag mid Feb I've family staying 9th Feb weekend so plan on packing the weekend after as we then won't need the back room so I can get everything organised in there.
@Hobbes my clinic sent me more pessaries after my BFP and I took them until after the viability scan when they saw the heartbeat they then said I was fine to stop after 8 weeks.
@critter glad everythings ok after your scare bleeding isn't uncommon but it still scares the bejesus out of you everytime theres even an odd bit of spotting.

Beherenow32 · 24/01/2019 20:25

@TheArtfulScreamer good plan. I might be about the same time. Still not completely sure what to put in hospital bag yet. Just ideas.
Not sure what are the best kind of nighties to take.... ones with buttons that open at the front? And what if I have a water birth... still a few weeks to decide yet 😊 xx

Hobbes39 · 24/01/2019 20:48

Thanks @Beherenow32 - that's reassuring that you had the same.. I do have more progesterone so will prob take it for a wee bit yet just in case..
Regarding hospital bag - don't worry about taking too much for after the baby is born, as your partner can go get more things - so just take essentials - snacks and drinks are a good idea and tbh I much preferred pyjamas to nighty in hospital - you will need to pack maternity pads and big comfy knickers...Smile

Beherenow32 · 24/01/2019 20:51

@Hobbes39 thanks for the tips! Yeah, I just finished my progesterone that I had left. So, you could do the same. Check with your hospital. Hope all goes well xx

Ilikehamsandwiches · 02/02/2019 15:45

Hi everyone, just got a bfp after my first round of IVF, I feel so lucky especially when I know lots of women have to have several rounds. But I’m so worried as my last pregnancy was ectopic. I’m trying to stay positive though 😊

Beherenow32 · 02/02/2019 22:07

@Ilikehamsandwiches congrats. I fell pregnant after my 4th transfer. I’m now 34 weeks... but can still chat/ answer questions if it helps! The start of pregnancy is so worrying! It’s doesnt fully go away but should hopefully get better with time xx

CritterTamer · 03/02/2019 16:28

Hey all, hope you're all well and welcome and congrats to the newbies! Had another night in hospital last week as low lying placenta was playing up and passing big black clots which was quite scary. Emergency scans showed all OK though and yesterday the spotting finally stopped after 2 weeks 😊 20 week scan is on Tuesday - I'm terrified!

Ilikehamsandwiches · 04/02/2019 17:15

Beherenow32 thank you so much and congratulations x

CritterTamer sorry to hear you’ve had such a scary time, hope you’re feeling better now.

I’ve started having brown spotting today (12dp5dt), im a bit scared, has anyone else had this and gone on to have a healthy pregnancy. I’m so paranoid!

Also I had a fresh transfer and have been told today by my nurse that I don’t need to carry on taking my progestogen pessaries. I thought I had to keep taking the for 10 weeks? Is it just my clinic or is this standard with a fresh transfer?

Thanks guys x

Beherenow32 · 04/02/2019 20:30

@Ilikehamsandwiches I stopped taking progesterone a couple of days after my positive result. I think it depends on which trigger shot you had, on whether you carry on with progesterone.
I don’t have any experience of the spotting but read it’s more common in ivf pregnancy. I would phone the hospital to check though. Hope all ok xx

Ilikehamsandwiches · 05/02/2019 05:22

Thank you for your reply that’s teally helpful. The spotting is still there, I’m hoping it’s implantation spotting 🤞 but who knows x

HJ82 · 05/02/2019 11:35

@CritterTamer good luck with 20week scan!

CritterTamer · 05/02/2019 13:37

All looking perfect at 20 week scan today - such a relief 😊 it looks like that low lying placenta is starting to move up too so hopefully that drama and worry will be over soon!

CritterTamer · 05/02/2019 13:39

@ilikehamsandwiches - my clinic made me keep taking the progesterone pessaries until 12 weeks after my fresh transfer 😕

Ilikehamsandwiches · 05/02/2019 13:59

Great news about your 20 week scan, it must be such a relief! Thanks for letting me know about the progesterone, I’ll give my clinic another call to make sure it’s correct 😊

hazeesh12 · 05/02/2019 20:30

Hey team. Anyone else had spotting/bleeding after coming off drugs? My clinic told me to go cold turkey at 12 weeks so I did as I was told and lo, I am now dealing with increasing amounts of brown spotting - almost like my period is going to start. Had a scan yesterday and they said the baby is fine but it’s since become heavier. Feel like I need a break from the anxiety!! Has anyone else had this and lived to tell the tale?!

CritterTamer · 05/02/2019 20:50

Hi Hazeesh, I didn't have any problem coming off the progesterone ( I reduced mine gradually between week 12 and 13 so didn't actually stop until I hit 14 weeks), but did have a red bleed at 18 weeks, followed by 2 weeks of brown spotting and black clots. Spent 2 nights in hospital getting emergency scans and being monitored and the only cause found was a low lying placenta which apparently is a common cause of bleeding. Spotting only just stopped this weekend and had 20 week scan today which showed all is fine.

Fingers crossed something like this is the case for you 🤞

hazeesh12 · 05/02/2019 21:41

@crittertamer thank you! Am so worried about this but I don’t think there’s much anyone can do either way. No one told me it would be this hard after my BFP! I feel like IVF ladies deserve a break from the anxiety Confused! Sounds like you’re in a good place though!

HJ82 · 08/02/2019 20:53

@CritterTamer great news!
I have to go back in on 18th as our baby refused to get out of Buddha pose. So we hope they get the kidneys next time. All looks great though! Yay!!

@Beherenow32 how many weeks now?? Omg you're so close!! How are you feeling? What happen with iron? Hope you're feeling better!!

@cannonball8726 how was GTT? What's the latest? Hope all ok!! How many weeks are you now?

All good here, getting some numbness in left leg so I'm afraid my disc injury /baby is doing something nasty with my sciatic nerve. No pain though so I'm just icing and warming 👍
My peeps have pretty much given me most of what I need for baby, which is so generous and awesome! (A few have recently had babies so they're just happy to get rid of it all) Got a babyzen for £200 and free attachments including baby seat. 😀 so grateful! Just the Bambino Mio nappies kit on big ticket list now. Everything else is little things 😅 exciting!!
