BFP after IVF: nervous ladies needed a handhold Part II

Hi everyone,

Think that the last thread for this topic reached its limit, so have started a new one.

Good luck to everyone who has finally got that longed for BFP!

This is a place for everything that comes after the 2WW: celebrating milestones, being (cautiously!) excited, symptom checking, worrying, sharing advice, commiserating bad news, generally keeping each other going, and willing each other along on our way to the 12 week mark.

A bit about me: 39 y/old, 0 DC, IVF ICSI cycle 1, first BFP since TTC, currently 6+0.

Look forward to meeting lots of people with new BFPs and sharing your journey!

@TheArtfulScreamer haha I'd do the same if I didn't grow up on an Angus beef farm - for me it's just liquid iron 😛 although I've missed steak since I gave it up at 12. I thought I'd cave during pregnancy but no meat cravings yet. I might have to go to a different Aldi as there were no clothes at my local one. Maybe just the bigger stores.

Beherenow32 · 13/01/2019 11:44

@cannonball8726 I’ll be 36 weeks when I finish up, using holidays. And 38 weeks when my maternity leave actually starts. Time is going in fast, just feel like I can’t do all that much at work.
Dreamgeni pillow looked good, but I don’t have the problem with sore (or big 😂) boobs. Mines is all in the lower back/ belly. And so I can turn around etc and still be supported.

Have you thought about when you will start maternity? Or anymore about buggies? I do love the bugaboos... even though I didn’t get one! I was close! Xx

cannonball8726 · 13/01/2019 12:10

Amazing thanks @theartfulscreamer- will def check out Aldi today! Does anyone know how many cot sheets you should buy?!

@hj82 I know nothing about the childcare vouchers - need to do some research! But we are looking for a nursery close to our local tube station to make life more easy and need good opening hours - both have crazy busy jobs. I'll be going to work after about 10 months, husband will do 2 months after I go back to work (We are doing shared parental leave). So baby will be starting nursery at 12 months - I would feel super guilty (there was a little one calling out for daddy on my nursery visit on Friday - it was heartbreaking) but want to carry on with my career for now. Will go back for 4 days a week and husband may be able to do 4 days a week too.

@beherenow32 I'm going off at 37 wks. Still 9.5 weeks to go! I want the babyzen but husband wants Bugaboo Bee as it feels sturdier! So we have decided to put off making any decisions any time soon Grin

HJ82 · 13/01/2019 12:17

@cannonball8726 OMG that's amazing re doing whole 12 months... I'm going to ask to go back 4 days. I've still not told them lol! Really need to do Monday! It's rather obvious 😂 OH works nights and only 3 a week so we will only need a few hours in the mornings 3 days a week, he can be stay at home daddy other days. He works from home the other days so we will see how that goes with a 10 month old!! 😳

cannonball8726 · 13/01/2019 12:45

Haha @hj82 you must be pretty bumpy now! Amazing that you haven't told them yet (But I guess you've been away for quite a few weeks!) That's good that you'll only need a few mornings a week. Some nurseries in our area do take little babies, some only take >12month kids or >2 or 3 years.

TheArtfulScreamer · 13/01/2019 13:26

I bought 3 sets of bedding I figured one washing, one drying, one on if needs be.

HJ82 · 14/01/2019 09:36

The dissolvable magnesium powder worked! No more leg aches 🙂 I'll continue taking it daily, just letting you guys know in case you get leg or back aches. I got the mag365 brand. Not tablets.

@cannonball8726 is it shared parental leave that you guys are taking? With DH having 2months? I told my work (yay) can stop sucking in now lol. They were going on about all these options and I'm now more confused then ever! But my goodness they're so supportive, offering me less hours and starting late and finishing early to avoid the busy times in my commute. So good! And straight up said I could prob come back for 4 days a week/ have flexi hrs. I just can't envisage OH work giving him 2 months off! But if it's a national thing others do then we could go asking with that to back him up.

HJ82 · 16/01/2019 08:27

@cannonball8726 with regard to the Pram dilemma, how much do you travel? The yoyo is really just convenient for taking it on trips and being able to take it past security and not having to check it in. If you're not planning on travelling a lot then get the more sturdy option. I'm only getting yoyo as we do Longhaul and 4-5hr stopovers in Asia I'd like to have a stroller to push my kid around airport.

Beherenow32 · 17/01/2019 19:26

@HJ82 how have your heart palpitations been? Mines have been happening a lot recently, and feeling a bit breathless and unwell. Iron levels have been checked again and midwife says I need to go see the GP. I’ve had an ECG tho, so not sure what else it could be except anaemia...
hope your’s have stopped xx

HJ82 · 17/01/2019 21:07

@Beherenow32 I've not had any more thankfully. I wonder if it was anxiety and sleep deprivation 🤔 I hope they stay away. Have you done a 48hr ecg etc? That's the next thing if you're having them a lot! I hope you feel better.

So the magnesium worked for my leg pain but I woke up in pain this morning and now I'm thinking my right hip is out of alignment. I'm going to go and get manipulated and some needles! I hope it's not pgp! It's pretty strong but stops here and there - weird!

HJ82 · 17/01/2019 21:09

@Beherenow32 sorry! Just re read you had ecg. It's probably just normal for you, you're 30 something weeks right?? Breathlessness is very common

Beherenow32 · 17/01/2019 21:15

@HJ82 had an ecg but was just a one off time. Not sure if they will check again. Tbh, I think it’s just taking time for the iron to kick in maybe, but midwife wants it checked. I’m now 32 weeks. Can’t believe it!
I’m glad your heart palpitations haven’t came to anything, but sorry about the pain. Must make it so difficult to get on with daily life! Xx

HJ82 · 17/01/2019 21:20

@Beherenow32 floradix works amazing for me. Remember don't consume more then 40mg a day! Can be toxic and you'll be getting iron from your diet too x

Beherenow32 · 17/01/2019 21:32

@HJ82 I’m taking one floradix and one prescribed iron tablet. Had bloods taken today, so hopefully it’s helping 🤞 thanks tho. Hope you get something to help with the pain x

Beherenow32 · 18/01/2019 16:37

@HJ82 turns out my iron levels have dropped again, even with taking the tablets. So that’s why I was getting palpitations 😐 hope you’re doing ok xx

HJ82 · 18/01/2019 16:48

@Beherenow32 ugh sorry to hear!! Even tho they wouldn't test mine, I'm still taking liquid iron. Have they upped your dose? What tablets you taking? Are they good quality? Brand?? Not boots or something 😣Remember to have vit c with it for absorption 🙂 I'm sure you know all this!

My sciatica pain is back! on top of my waxing and waning pelvic aches grrr. I've done something to aggravate it! Or it's the baby 😂 I've suffered on and off for 2 years since my disc tear. So I'm mildly worried it's gonna come back full on. I did realise I changed to a harder mattress Sunday (it's really old tho) and since then I've had this pain so I bit the bullet and bought a SIMBA, can't hurt to have a good mattress as I'm going to need all the comfort I can get.

Hope you get your levels up!!

HJ82 · 18/01/2019 16:55

@Beherenow32 I'd try a different brand! Not the dr version (no offence to them) research the best absorbed iron. Solgar is my favourite brand. They do a 25mg gentle iron. That's a high dose! It's no non constipating 👍👍

Beherenow32 · 18/01/2019 17:07

@HJ82 I have been taking one floradix and one tablet that is prescribed by the doctors. Now going to take that but with another one from the docs and drink it with orange juice. I feel like I’ve been eating foods with iron, but I obv need more.

That’s so rubbish about your pain. But a decent mattress is a good investment! Is there any exercises that can help? Hope you get better sleep with new mattress xx

HJ82 · 22/01/2019 12:44

@Beherenow32 hope you're feeling better!? I think I have round ligament pain! It's dull stretching mild period like cramping. I keep thinking I have trapped gas. 19 weeks today and it's just started. Still can't feel bub tho. Looking forward to that.

@cannonball8726 @CritterTamer @TheArtfulScreamer how are you ladies getting on?

TheArtfulScreamer · 22/01/2019 12:58

I'm getting on ok, I've 4 weeks left at work so on a bit of a countdown. My iron levels have gone up a bit but could still do with being a bit higher. I had a growth scan yesterday which was all good and other than a bit of hip pain if I lay for to long on one side I don't have to many other aches and pains. I am suffering with bloating and trapped gas on a night though but it tends to pass in a couple of hours if I keep moving.
I started to feel movements at around 19 weeks for me it felt like a little pulse or flick in my tummy so I'm sure you'll start to feel them soon enough.

Beherenow32 · 22/01/2019 15:13

@HJ82 have been feeling a bit rubbish and getting pain, but just trying to get my iron levels up. Hope you’re feeling baby soon, but it isn’t uncommon to feel them after 20 weeks, I think. First movement I felt was like little bubbles popping.
Also, getting lots of pain/ period type pains too. Good to know baby is growing though.

@TheArtfulScreamer good to hear from you. I also have 4 weeks left of work. I keep thinking about labour now. How it could go, and should I start packing the hospital bag soon 😂😂 when do you plan to pack?

I get a lot of pain at night, but that’s been happening for a while now. Xx

cannonball8726 · 22/01/2019 19:50

Hey all! Feeling a bit gutted as my glucose challenge test was abnormal so I have to go for a glucose tolerance test. The glucose challenge test is just a screening test so I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the GTT goes okay. Pretty gutting as I am slim, active (still exercising) and generally eat well (although had lots of treats before Christmas) :( trying not to get too anxious about it! 28+5 and starting to feel tired too. My haemoglobin is low and I have to go back and have my iron levels tested. I'm probably going to be joining the iron deficient club...

@hj82 I didn't feel movements properly until around 22 weeks so don't worry! How's your pelvic pain?

@beherenow32 and @theartfulscreamer four weeks not far away at all! Hope the days fly, especially if you are having a lot of discomfort @beherenow32. Glad your scan went okay @theartfulscreamer!

Beherenow32 · 22/01/2019 20:41

@cannonball8726 what made them do the glucose challenge? Is your bump measuring bigger? Hope everything is ok. I’m not sure what happens with gestational diabetes, so can’t advise. But hoping everything comes back ok x
