BFP after IVF: nervous ladies needed a handhold Part II

Hi everyone,

Think that the last thread for this topic reached its limit, so have started a new one.

Good luck to everyone who has finally got that longed for BFP!

This is a place for everything that comes after the 2WW: celebrating milestones, being (cautiously!) excited, symptom checking, worrying, sharing advice, commiserating bad news, generally keeping each other going, and willing each other along on our way to the 12 week mark.

A bit about me: 39 y/old, 0 DC, IVF ICSI cycle 1, first BFP since TTC, currently 6+0.

Look forward to meeting lots of people with new BFPs and sharing your journey!

Thank you guys @HJ82 @beherenow32 @itonlytakesone! Yes, I def recognise lots of names here from June and September groups 😊

@HJ82 - thank you for supplement suggestions, I’ll cut out the rest and just one prenatal. Congrats on your engagement, how amazing to have such lovely news together. Did you get your BFP quite soon after fertility treatment? And did you go through the normal process with your gp?

@itonlytakesone - congrats on your wedding! I hope you stay floating on cloud 9 for a very long time 😉

cannonball8726 · 04/12/2018 11:30

@Dia12 I remember you from the June thread. CONGRATULATIONS! Do you have a rough idea how many weeks you are? Agree - stop the supplements and take a pregnancy multivitamin with folic acid and vitamin D. There is good evidence for Omega 3 supplements in pregnancy now so I have started taking that. You must be really pleased. It's normal to be worried - we have all been through a crappy time with infertility and the stakes feel really high. Book a private scan before your NHS 12 week scan if you think it will give you some peace of mind. Early scans helped me (although I know they are not for everyone and may feed anxiety).

@ itonlytakesone congrats on your wedding! Are you on honeymoon now? Well done on the heels - I think I would definitely fall over! My balance is so awful.

@beherenow32 ah cool, exciting to have some baby stuff! When will you go on mat leave?

@HJ82 is it this Friday that you get your Harmony results? Best of luck. And when is your 12 week scan? Our relatives live abroad so it's easy to not tell them about the pregnancy! Wouldn't have been able to hide it otherwise - definitely showing! So exciting that your neighbour is going to lend you some baby stuff. We will probably take a look at prams in next couple of weeks - I'm thinking babyzen yoyo or bugabee 5. Need something lightweight for London. We don't have a car and I'm going to be contending with tubes and buses!

I'm feeling baby's movements now - it is so nice. I definitely feel a little more chilled about things - I have been pretty anxious about everything until now.

cannonball8726 · 04/12/2018 11:31

@itonlytakesone sorry the tag came out wrong when i posted!

HJ82 · 04/12/2018 11:44

@cannonball8726 yeah I'm taking omega Dha/epa but I have loads of spirulina everyday so I'm probably getting enough there. Straight from the source, not via plastic contaminated fish 😓 food is a tough one! It's hard to know what we are really consuming!! Stresses me out. My bloods are all great though so I'm doing something right lol. Being a vegan (apart from the odd sneaky fish) most of my life, I've learnt a lot about nutrition. I really enjoy researching that. I'd actually like to study it one day. I'd def go for the babyzen only because it's registered with airlines to take on board! My colleagues swear by it for that alone! Especially when you have a tired toddler wriggling in your tired arms in the airport! You have to check in every other pram so I think this one would be a good choice. I just had my nhs 12 week. They did a dildo scan (😂 my friend calls it that) tbh that should be standard practice, it was amazing. Could see the spine clearly and everything. Although baby kept jumping like it was on a trampoline. It was hilarious. They said the fold was very thin and they don't think I should be worried about any abnormally. I have my private scan on Friday and harmony result 🤞🏻

@Dia12 yes, my second cycle after ivf. So thankful! I'm happy I had the ivf because I think it helped me conceive naturally!!!

cannonball8726 · 04/12/2018 11:52

@HJ82 congrats on your 12 week scan! It's a big milestone :) Glad it all went well. Will you tell people after Harmony test? Yes, babyzen looking really tempting! I'm sure my husband is going to complain that it isn't robust enough as I've heard it's not so good on uneven terrain - but I'm not planning to go to Hampstead Heath every day! I don't want to destroy my back trying to lug around a heavier pram down tube steps etc. Just need to have a look at it in person. I saw a lady with one outside the tube station the other day and was so tempted to ask if I could have a go at wheeling it around a bit with her kid in it! Grin

Beherenow32 · 04/12/2018 13:58

@HJ82 it’s funny how bumps can be so different... I still just have a tiny pot belly lol. Hoping it pops at some point ☺️ Xx

HJ82 · 04/12/2018 14:11

@cannonball8726 yeah I suspect it's a bit rickety. I'll wear the baby for heath visits. You'd just need to picnic close to a path 🙂

@Beherenow32 I looked pregnant on a bad day before, but usually could suck it in. It's getting harder to now 😬

Beherenow32 · 04/12/2018 14:52

@HJ82 jealous. I love a baby bump 😉 I can’t suck tummy in, so that pot is definitely baby! X

CritterTamer · 04/12/2018 15:10

@Dia12 - Congrats! So lovely to see you here - you really deserved some good news after that last horrific cycle!

HJ82 · 04/12/2018 22:20

help! We have a work do later this week and I'm not ready to tell them yet. Will me sipping a glass of wine over a few hours be ok? I've read it won't do any harm and tbh before 2017 it was standard to be allowed a glass a day! 😦 I'd never do that! But surely sipping a small wine over a few hours will be safe?

HJ82 · 04/12/2018 22:22

@Dia12 I've not seen my illusive gp yet! I just self referred to the hospital. It's what you do anyway.

Beherenow32 · 05/12/2018 09:55

@HJ82 I don’t think it will harm baby, if it’s a one off occasion. Just depends how you’ll feel after. I don’t think I could stomach alcohol just now! Xx

cannonball8726 · 05/12/2018 10:23

@hj82 I'm sure one should be okay - you could probably nurse it the whole evening and just take the odd sip!

@crittertamer how are you getting on now? Hope you're feeling much better.

@Dia12 I didn't make contact with GP either - I self referred to my hospital of choice online at 7 weeks I think. Hope you're feeling okay.

Has anyone bought a pregnancy pillow? Sleep proving tricky now!

Dia12 · 05/12/2018 10:45

Thanks for the info guys.
I’m so upset I don’t know what to do - took another frer (fmu) and the line is significantly fainter than Tuesdays (I tested at 6pm). I know there are variations but this is beginning to look like another cp (#3).
Just feel like I’m clutching at straws, not knowing what to fix.

Dia12 · 05/12/2018 10:46

Forgot to mention that I am 13dpo on my first cycle after the failed ICSI.

HJ82 · 05/12/2018 10:52

Thanks @Beherenow32 and @cannonball8726 I was planing to just take tiny sips all night. Some women drink a glass or two a week and have no issues so I think just one for my entire pregnancy should be ok lol. I still have no symptoms (apart from hard larger tummy and boobs) so I'm sure I'll stomach it. 🙂 I just hope I don't enjoy it too much haha

HJ82 · 05/12/2018 10:56

@Dia12 oh try not to stress, I tested a few times before and after AF was due and the lines were different gradients each time. One brand was nothing. I then spotted a bit and it was stressful, but all normal in the end. Just hang in there!! I know it's easier said then done. It's such an emotional rollercoaster

Beherenow32 · 05/12/2018 11:01

@HJ82 one will fine! You could even mix white wine with soda water or lemonade. I used to like that.

@Dia12 that does sound stressful. I didn’t have a pregnancy test so no experience of them, but think different brands pick up HCG differently. Hope you’re ok.

Can’t decide whether to book my 4d scan for next week, or leave it for the week after... I want to see her so bad, but don’t want scan too early and not see her as well as if she was more developed.... keep dreaming about her though. Which is lovely xx

Beherenow32 · 05/12/2018 11:16

@cannonball8726 I have an orthopaedic v shape pillow. Because I didn’t want one f those massive ones. At first it helped loads, but I’ve noticed the last couple of mornings I’m waking up sore...

So exhausted. 9 weeks until maternity leave. Not sure how I’ll last till then! Xx

CritterTamer · 05/12/2018 17:00

@Cannonball8726 - I’m ok - thankyou for asking. The OHSS is much better now but I’ve been struggling with really bad MS and exhaustion/dizzy spells. Got to the point last weekend where I just couldn’t get any sleep or really function at all so hauled myself off to the docs and now have anti-sickness tablets which are amazing - I’m now getting a few hours of relief from the unrelenting nausea each day and getting some sleep so feeling much more able to cope 😊

@Dia12 - fingers crossed for you - if you’re not cramping/bleeding then everything may still be ok 🤞

cannonball8726 · 06/12/2018 17:21

@Dia12 hope things are okay. The absence of bleeding is hopefully a good sign. This is all so hard.

@crittertamer glad to hear things are settling. Is your 12 week scan next week?

Dia12 · 06/12/2018 19:08

Thank you @crittertamer @cannonball8726 - I’m afraid things aren’t any clearer and the standard hcg sticks have shown a bfn today at 14dpo. I’ve had a tiny amount of pink spotting but don’t want to continue winding myself up with HPTs so will wait for AF to show. Now reliving the misery of CP again.

I’m still astounded that I even got this far on our own but now wonder what this means going forward.

Hope everyone else is doing well. X

HJ82 · 07/12/2018 11:23

@Dia12 I hope AF doesn't come 🤞🏻 If it does then just remember you did this naturally so that's extremely promising ❤️

@cannonball8726 @Beherenow32 @Itonlytakesone all good with my 12 week and harmony. Phew. Glad it's over. I didn't have a tea but his morning but baby was still active as. I'm started to feel a bit yucky. Heavy and fat and frustrated. Like bad pms symptoms. Not had any during 1st trim. Very agitated and I'm itchy! I can't moisturise enough. 😂 I thought 2 trimester was honeymoon time? I feel like an angry inflated balloon on legs. I'm putting on like 2kgs a week. Now I'm worried about gestational diabetes 🙄 you guys feel any symptoms like this? I have to keep sucking in for another week!!! As soon as I get on that plane I'm letting go 🤪

HJ82 · 07/12/2018 11:25

I wanna be little with a cute bump. Not a mega whale by 5 months 😂

Beherenow32 · 07/12/2018 18:22

@HJ82 glad all went well with harmony etc! 😊😊 I think I did start to feel better but only after 20 weeks! Was still tired bloated etc before that. And now at 26 weeks, I’m tired bloated etc 🙈

Still small bump for me, but definitely a wee one there. I want to look a little pregnant before baby comes 😂 did you find out if boy or girl??

Hope all ok @Dia12
