BFP after IVF: nervous ladies needed a handhold Part II

Hi everyone,

Think that the last thread for this topic reached its limit, so have started a new one.

Good luck to everyone who has finally got that longed for BFP!

This is a place for everything that comes after the 2WW: celebrating milestones, being (cautiously!) excited, symptom checking, worrying, sharing advice, commiserating bad news, generally keeping each other going, and willing each other along on our way to the 12 week mark.

A bit about me: 39 y/old, 0 DC, IVF ICSI cycle 1, first BFP since TTC, currently 6+0.

Look forward to meeting lots of people with new BFPs and sharing your journey!

P.S. it felt AMAZING to get that rant out lol! DH has lI tied sympathy and no one else IRL to talk to so thank you for reading! 😊

CritterTamer · 20/11/2018 14:46

*limited sympathy

cannonball8726 · 20/11/2018 19:32

@HJ82 thank you! 20 week scan was okay - they didn't get all the views that they wanted because bubba wasn't fully cooperating (despite making me jump up and down!) so we have to go back next week to complete the scan. But all that they saw looked okay so fingers crossed. Don't worry - I had periods of very mild symptoms too. Best of luck with the Harmony test :) will you find out the sex? you aren't far away from your 12 week scan at all!

@beherenow32 amazing that you are nearing third trimester!

@crittertamer sorry to hear you are feeling so crappy! You're allowed a moan - your OHSS sounded awful. And you have a double dose of pregnancy symptoms because of twins! How many weeks are you now?

cannonball8726 · 20/11/2018 19:33

@snowfee congrats on your scan! It's such a milestone :)

HJ82 · 20/11/2018 20:01

@CritterTamer lol - limited sympathy 🙂 I think mine does too. Every little ailment I have, I make it known so this will be no different. I'm going to try not to annoy him too much 👍
Sorry you're feeling so shit tho. Like Canon said, you're double symptom!

@cannonball8726 oh wow, I didn't realise that can happen! Hopefully bub plays ball next scan! We don't want to know the sex (this could change, I'm nosey). I've always dreamt of that moment though, when the baby easily glides out 😛 and they say it's a..... I think I'd like that surprise.

Anyone got name lists? That's going to be the hardest!!! I'm just going to pick names within my family tree I think. That's easy enough and will be nice and old fashioned haha.

PinkFootedGoose · 20/11/2018 20:06

Hello, can I join the thread? Currently 8+5 after my first round of ICSI. Had viability scan last week- currently two babies in there, both had a strong heartbeat and were measuring the right size but one has a smaller than expected gestational sac. So we're going back next week to look at that one as it might mean it doesn't develop properly. It's a bit discombulating trying to get used to the idea of twins while also trying not to get emotionally invested in the idea of twins.

I am with you @CritterTamer I feel terrible at the moment, I've ramped up from nausea to sickness this week and it's so tiring pretending to be normal at work. It's actually worse than I was expecting and I don't think I'm a model patient. I find am constantly on the hunt for starchy carbs to stem the sick feeling. Really hoping this eases off soon.

CritterTamer · 20/11/2018 21:11

Hey @Pinkfootedgoose we’re exactly the same - I’m 8+5 today too. Had several scans already due to my OHSS so we saw two heartbeats at 5+6, 6+4 and again at 7+1. I have one more on Friday at 9+1 and if all is well at that the clinic will discharge me. Due to the OHSS I’ve been suffering now since before i got my BFP so over 5 weeks at this point and I’m really just hanging onto the hope that it’s supposed to get better at the 12 week mark! 🤞

Cannonball - that’s frustrating but at least they could see everything is fine 😊 hope next weeks scan goes better!

Itonlytakesone · 20/11/2018 21:22

@PinkFootedGoose
Aww congratulations that's amazing news but yes be cautious just yet about the idea of twins, I'm sure all will be fine, it's a miracle 2 strong hearts beating how lovely ❤️.

@CritterTamer
Totally fine. Rant away if you can't do it on here where can you! We all totally understand!

@cannonball8726
Brilliant your scan seems good although you have an excitable baby in there! Wonder if you will have a boy or girl... so exciting.

@Beherenow32
I too don't really feel pregnant right now must be the stage we are at... they call it the honeymoon period of pregnancy?

...Well apart from my pelvic floor muscles obviously aren't very strong to support my bladder with the weight of the baby and I'm having leakage issues are you or anyone else? Just a bit but i feel so dirty and unhygienic sometimes. I'm going to start exercising my pelvic floor ASAP. I'm getting paranoid 😅 Iv Googled it and it's relatively common issue however i don't want this getting worse.

@HJ82
Ooh so will you find out the sex? I couldn't wait to know. Kept the result a secret until 20 weeks so we had the time for just us to know which was lovely 😊.

HJ82 · 21/11/2018 09:17

@Itonlytakesone oh no! That doesn't sound great! It's common though. I'm hoping my 3 classes of Pilates a week will pay off when I'm bigger and have more pressure on bladder. I'm also obsessed with doing kegels too. But I've done those since my early 20s (I was told once that all women should do these, but not just for pregnancy, hehe 😛)

Good luck! I hope you can build up strong floor quickly!

I can't wait to do antenatal yoga! I found a great place near me but waiting till 16+ weeks 🙂 @cannonball8726 have you been back?

Beherenow32 · 22/11/2018 19:45

@HJ82 @itinkytakesone I try to remember to do the pelvic floor exercise everyday. Not sure I’m doing it enough, or even right! Hope you find something to help @itonlytakesone I just had a little leak once when I sneezed and it scared me! Haha hasn’t happened before.

Leg cramps keeping me up at night. Got a v shaped pillow, and will try stretches. It’s agony and I don’t sleep! Any tips would be great! Xx

Itonlytakesone · 22/11/2018 20:54

I'm actually thinking it's normal discharge now called Leukorrhea as it's not much, it's just annoying because i feel horrible sometimes. I will get my pelvic floor stronger now though now i know you all do exercises you are putting me to shame 😆

cannonball8726 · 24/11/2018 08:32

@pinkfootedgoose, congratulations! Best of luck for your scan this week. You and @crittertamer are like pregnancy twins! And not at all surprising that you are both feeling rubbish. I think the pregnancy symptoms hit me hard in the 8th and 9th week but thankfully they subsided after 12/13 weeks. Hope yours settle soon.

@itonlytakesone your post has reminded me to do my pelvic floor muscle exercises! Must get into habit of doing these daily. Ours is a girl (We found out from Harmony test) but they also mentioned that at our 20 week scan. When is your big day? Must be super close now! You must be really excited :)

@HJ82 you are my hero - Pilates three times a week is bloody good! Your core must be amazing. Yes still doing the pregnancy yoga- helps me relax if nothing else! And chatted to a couple of girls there so hopefully a good way of meeting people if I go consistently. I really miss Pilates and went to my usual non- pregnancy class a couple of weeks ago but didn't feel right for me (even though teacher was encouraging) as I felt like odd one out at class having modified exercises! Found a local prenatal Pilates class that I can hopefully make this week so looking forward to that. No idea about names yet!

@beherenow32 my sleep isn't great at moment. Starting to get a bit uncomfy with bump at night. Poor you getting leg cramps - try tonic water!

Have a lovely weekend ladies. I'm going to do some online maternity dress shopping in Serephine Black Friday sale - need some work dresses! Bought a couple from ASOS which were reasonable. Anyone seen anything good? Btw I can totally recommend New Look's maternity jeggings- so flattering and comfy! I'm new to New Look but bought a few things there this week and have found them to be surprisingly good for casual wear - and ideal because don't want to spend too much money on temporary clothes.

This time last year we were feeling pretty down about infertility. I feel so grateful to be here even thinking about these things.

Beherenow32 · 24/11/2018 09:32

@cannonball8726 thanks for the maternity clothes tip. I haven’t bought any yet. Just been buying bigger sizes, but think I should prob now get maternity because normal leggings crush my hips and below my belly.
I know, can’t believe we are here after the failed ivfs last year.

Are people starting to feel movement yet? Baby’s movement has completely changed this week, and I don’t know what’s normal! I think I feel a rolling but it’s so subtle, and not regular now, I’m not sure. I was feeling hard kicks before. Maybe my placenta is in the way?

Sorry, I know I’m like a broken record with this 🙈 xx

Beherenow32 · 24/11/2018 10:10

Actually getting myself worried. Going to try a drink freezing cold water! Can see myself booking another scan soon! (4d is in 3 weeks....) xx

CritterTamer · 24/11/2018 12:15

Hi all, Just an update - had scan yesterday at 9+1 which was amazing 😁 two actual baby shaped little beans in there waving their arms and legs at us like crazy lol. Two nice strong heartbeats as well and measuring 9+2 and 9+3 so the clinic are happy and have discharged me which is a bit scary. The Ohss fluid has settled now which is good but one of my ovaries is still the size of a tennis ball which at least explains some of the awful abdominal pain i get. They say it should start to deflate after 11-12 weeks when the HCG starts to decrease.

Beherenow32 · 24/11/2018 18:25

@CritterTamer fab! My 9+4 week scan was my fav. Made it a little more real

So, I phoned the hospital. They said not to worry just now. Unless I have no movement at all. I’m still too early for a pattern and to monitor between 26-28 weeks. Have eaten so much rubbish today. Prob comfort food! 😣 xx

cannonball8726 · 25/11/2018 19:03

Lovely, @crittertamer. Glad the twins are looking well :)

@beherenow32 have you spoken to midwife? How many weeks are you now - it may just be too early to reliably feel movements.

Beherenow32 · 25/11/2018 19:58

@cannonball8726 yes, phoned midwife, who said too early for baby to have a pattern. Think I was just having a huge emotional wobble yesterday. Still not believing that this could happen! But felt a bit more kicking today.

Hope you’re well xx

cannonball8726 · 25/11/2018 22:20

@beherenow32 glad you got some reassurance! Doing okay, starting to get back pain and pelvic pain now. Hope it stays under control. Got our attempt at 20 week scan on Tuesday - hope bubba behaves and everything is okay.

Itonlytakesone · 25/11/2018 22:39

@Beherenow32
Just catching up aww so sorry you've had this worry & glad all is ok that must be worrying, Iv been feeling strong kicks but i guess if that eases off that reading your post i won't worry now.

@cannonball8726
Wedding is on Saturday eeeek!! Yes get doing pelvic floor, I need to keep this up too. Congratulations on another little girl! So many now how lovely 😊

@CritterTamer
Aww so glad your twins are doing well excellent news i love catching up and reading good news 🙏🏻

Beherenow32 · 26/11/2018 16:40

@cannonball8726 that’s a shame about your pain. Hope you manage to get all the measurements ok at next scan.

@itonlytakesone very exciting for the wedding. Hope everything goes smoothly. We had a couple issues at our’s. Best man actually lost DH’s wedding ring 🙄 lol
Still phone hospital if you are concerned with movements. They told me to phone if I feel nothing at all. But I am getting some movement.

Has anyone decided when they will decorate baby’s nursery? I’m getting a lot of pressure put on me to get started. (By family and friends) But there is sooo much to do and DH isn’t in any rush to start.... really don’t know if I should just start or relax about it for now. Would like to be able to start putting things in place before I’m too massive and tired xx

HJ82 · 26/11/2018 17:14

@Beherenow32 oh to have the luxury of a nursery 😩 my OH won't leave London just yet so I fear we will never have space. Baby/small child will be forever at the foot of our bed in a share house 😂😂 no it's not funny 🙄

Beherenow32 · 26/11/2018 17:24

@HJ82 ohh I’m sorry 🙈🙈 we do another room. So maybe I should stress too much then?! 😉 xx

Beherenow32 · 26/11/2018 17:41

Shouldnt*

HJ82 · 26/11/2018 17:58

We got engaged! Funny though because he planned the whole thing before we got pregnant 😛 now it's going to look quite "urgent" lol
