BFP after IVF: nervous ladies needed a handhold Part II

Hi everyone,

Think that the last thread for this topic reached its limit, so have started a new one.

Good luck to everyone who has finally got that longed for BFP!

This is a place for everything that comes after the 2WW: celebrating milestones, being (cautiously!) excited, symptom checking, worrying, sharing advice, commiserating bad news, generally keeping each other going, and willing each other along on our way to the 12 week mark.

A bit about me: 39 y/old, 0 DC, IVF ICSI cycle 1, first BFP since TTC, currently 6+0.

Look forward to meeting lots of people with new BFPs and sharing your journey!

My friend said it feels like a fish in a bowl 😮 such a weird sensation I bet

Itonlytakesone · 08/11/2018 19:35

Hi Iv been fretting about feeling movement too I'm 21 weeks today. I have an anterior placenta too it's low down at front so probably cushions the blow from the baby although i sometimes feel something?! When are you meant to actively watch out for the movements? Because i just leave it thinking i hope all is ok.

Iv got x3 more Nhs scans now scheduled to monitor me because i had ivf although one was to check on the location of my location I'll be praying it's moved higher 😩.

Podemos · 08/11/2018 20:03

Hi everyone. I've been reading through this and previous thread since my BFP. Had scan with my clinic on Tuesday (7 weeks) and all was good. Felt relieved for a few hours but now back to googling mmc etc and working out when to pay for another scan!!! Can't believe I waited years and years for a bfp and never realised getting one would be this terrifying.

I'm also feeling so guilty that I'm hating being pregnant. Feel sick all day long and exhausted. I'm finding work really tough and in bed by half 8 at the latest every evening.

Thanks for the thread- has kept me (almost) sane in all this.

Beherenow32 · 08/11/2018 20:12

@Itonlytakesone I THINK it’s around 28 weeks that you need to watch the movement. I’m going to ask the midwife next week.
It does feel like a muscle spasm, or a jab from inside. But you may have felt early movement like little bubbles popping and not realised too. They can be very subtle.
Sorry if I’ve made people worry about movement!
Hopefully it will be reassuring for you to get more scans. I have booked a private 4d scan, but that will be me.

I still worry about my bump size, and prob don’t need to. I don’t think anyone needs to worry about movement yet!

@Podemos congats. I know it’s a worrying time, but stay off google! I found early pregnancy very hard too. I still fall asleep early and am tired. But it gets easier.
Xx

Itonlytakesone · 08/11/2018 20:33

@Podemos
Ah congratulations i love new pregnancies joining and you reading back because you can guarantee we will have answered ALL your concerns between us all 😂 it doesn't get any easier it's true what they say- never a moment of rest (unless you are actually in a scan!)

At 7 weeks you've now had your ivf clinic scan so at this point i had a nipt test at 11 weeks then the nhs scan at 12. It's a long wait but you have to just trust all is ok.

@Beherenow32
Don't worry you've not worried anyone we were all worried together 😂. Is your bump still quite small? Mine is but that's ok it's just over 3 weeks until my wedding so I'd like a nice neat bump. A 4d scan will be amazing. I'm obviously not getting one since I'm getting scans quite frequently from 28 weeks onwards. 😊

Beherenow32 · 08/11/2018 20:37

@Itonlytakesone yeah, still small. Yesterday I was bloated- my tummy went huge! And I was happy. This morning, nothing! Haha.
that’s so nice. Do you feel all organised for the wedding?

Oh. It’s past 8:30, but think I’ll be going to sleep now 😅 xx

HJ82 · 08/11/2018 20:45

@Podemos yes, don't google statistics etc. I'm the same but I've just stopped now. It's too stressful and I don't want to be anxious 😦 the amount of studies I've read about chromosomal abnormalities 😞. I'm just switching off now!!

I booked a weekend in Berlin (before bfp) for our 10th anniversary and had to go clubbing (as you do), I lasted 1hr inside lol. The smoke and extreme tiredness was hectic and I was worried about tiny. I have tickets to an event this Saturday in London and my friend is trying to convince me to sleep till 1am and go out for a dance for just 1hr 😂 I've done that before when ttc and not drinking. But now, pfft, no way! I thought it would be easy but I can't even go to a gig till 11 without nodding off!!

cannonball8726 · 08/11/2018 23:05

I felt tired just reading your plans for the weekend HJ82! 😂

Congratulations @Podemos. The fatigue is pretty surprising in first trimester- I had no idea it was going to be like that! The anxiety is normal... my ivf clinic arranged scans for us at 6.5 and 8.5 weeks. Then I had NIPT done at around 10 weeks. Then 12 week scan on NHS. A crazy number of scans! Waiting from 12 weeks to 20 week scan has felt pretty long!

@beherenow32 and @theartfulscreamer thank you. I have actually felt quite a bit of twitching today which I think may be movements.

Is anyone going on a babymoon? Thinking of going away for a city break over the Christmas period!

cannonball8726 · 08/11/2018 23:06

@itonlytakesone so exciting that you're getting married soon!

HJ82 · 09/11/2018 08:39

@cannonball8726 I'm flying to Australia for 3 weeks for Xmas, at week 13 😬 nervous about timing. Just hope all my tests are ok at week 10! Getting the results and further scan at week 12 etc will all be so close to my departure.

HJ82 · 09/11/2018 09:12

@cannonball8726 where are thinking of going?

Itonlytakesone · 09/11/2018 14:58

@Beherenow32
Almost organised for the wedding got my dress fitting next week 😬little bits need finishing which takes all the time up 3 weeks is absolutely nothing it'll be here before i know it! I go to bed really early too just like lying in bed take the weight off 😊

I'm going on a honey/baby moon in December just before Christmas to Scotland a little rural retreat away from everyone, log fire, hot choccies..sounds bliss - relax while i still can! Any one else?

@cannonball8726
A city break is adventurous..I can't walk very far without my stomach aching i walk round shops and find it exhausting 🙈

@HJ82
Wow Australia sounds fab. Be careful in the early stages incase nausea hits, id go to doctors for some anti nausea before you go on the trip, i was on them for ages they were amazing got me through loads of events ect i couldn't have managed without them!

cannonball8726 · 09/11/2018 15:37

@HJ82 Aus sounds great - is that where your family live? Will you announce the good news to them then? Make sure you get some compression stockings! I went to NYC the week after my 12 week scan. We had decided that even if it was bad news at the scan, that we would try and still go as the break would be helpful. I made sure I had sorted travel insurance just in case anything got in the way of our plans!

@HJ82 and @itonlytakesone not sure where we'll go yet! I'll be 26 weeks then so somewhere short haul - maybe somewhere on Eurostar (we live in London). Prices are getting expensive though and we spent so much on our IVF cycle - but it would be nice to have one last trip away as a couple! Your honeymoon/baby moon plans sound lovely!

HJ82 · 09/11/2018 15:39

@Itonlytakesone that sounds perfect! I love love love Scotland! I'm almost 9 weeks and no nausea yet (well teeny bit) but a ginger tea and I'm good. I hope by 13 weeks it won't be worse. It will be nice to surprise my family for Xmas. It's the first Xmas with them in many years so being pregs is a mega bonus! They don't know yet. Very hard not to tell mum & dad 😬🙂 did you guys hold out till 12 weeks to tell immediate family?

HJ82 · 09/11/2018 15:45

@cannonball8726 I always fly with comp stockings. I'm nervous about super long haul (I do the gruelling trip every year, just not at Xmas as it's too hot) my friend did it pg with twins! I'm sure will be fine. I'll beg for bulkhead seat 🙂 assuming you don't need a letter from dr at this early stage? I don't want to play the PG card for benefits then to have someone ask for a safe to fly letter

cannonball8726 · 09/11/2018 15:53

@HJ82 I don't think they need a letter this early - I didn't bother when I was 13 weeks. The check in staff (Virgin) spotted my Baby On Board badge at airport and asked me how many weeks I was so they could document it - but didn't need anything else. You could call airline to ask for a good seat because of preg and if they want a letter, get one from midwife/GP!

cannonball8726 · 09/11/2018 16:06

@HJ82 when is your NIPT? Must be close now!

Itonlytakesone · 09/11/2018 16:12

@HJ82
I too was fine with my nausea until week 13 then it hit me bad so just be advised. Get a baby on board badge i wore mine all over London the other weekend it's good when your travelling gives you leeway if you're slow/struggling.

I love Scotland too i got engaged up there last December ❤️ in a really nice secluded wooden cabin.

We didn't tell anyone until after 12 weeks (apart from my mum who knew all the way through ivf)

@cannonball8726
That sounds like a great idea on Eurostar how about Bruges the Christmas markets? 🎄

We will all need a break before these 👶🏻 arrive!

HJ82 · 09/11/2018 16:25

@cannonball8726 26th nov. They said if it's positive they'll call me. That's going to be a stressful week 😞

HJ82 · 09/11/2018 16:26

@Itonlytakesone oh no!! 😦 ok I'll be prepared!

snowfee · 09/11/2018 16:59

I've been abit silent on the thread lately but have been reading and keeping up to date with everyone.
I had my first midwives appointment on Tuesday, I didn't realise there would be so many questions to answer!
Today my scan letter has arrived. I'll only be 11+5 at that scan, is that too early or will they still be able to do all the normal checks?

HJ82 · 09/11/2018 17:24

@cannonball8726 yes, I've heard Bruges very romantic 🙂 and especially at Xmas

cannonball8726 · 09/11/2018 23:50

Will look at prices for Bruges. Thanks ladies!

@snowfee how are you getting on? How many weeks are you now? The midwife visit was pretty long! Yes they'll be able to check nuchal translucency after 11 weeks.

@HJ82 I hope the next few weeks fly by before NIPT. It was nerve wracking waiting for results- every part of this is so bloody nerve wracking!

snowfee · 10/11/2018 07:06

@cannonball8726 I'm currently 10+3. I've been experiencing mild nausea, seems to get worse if I've had spicy food the night before. Yesterday was bad hormones wise, I was mood swinging all over the place! Cramps/aches in my lower stomach seem more frequent at the moment. Nothing really bad, bit like a stitch and thankfully no blood so I'm holding on to positive thoughts that's it's just my body changing.

Beherenow32 · 11/11/2018 18:41

I’m obsessed with looking at buggies just now. My head is spinning- I can’t decide!

How is everyone else? The babymoons sounds lovely. Good idea! X
