BFP after IVF: nervous ladies needed a handhold Part II

Hi everyone,

Think that the last thread for this topic reached its limit, so have started a new one.

Good luck to everyone who has finally got that longed for BFP!

This is a place for everything that comes after the 2WW: celebrating milestones, being (cautiously!) excited, symptom checking, worrying, sharing advice, commiserating bad news, generally keeping each other going, and willing each other along on our way to the 12 week mark.

A bit about me: 39 y/old, 0 DC, IVF ICSI cycle 1, first BFP since TTC, currently 6+0.

Look forward to meeting lots of people with new BFPs and sharing your journey!

I am missing exercise very much - had to stop running when stims started and now I’m still stuck on bed/sofa rest due to the OHSS. I did go out for a walk this morning as i was feeling a lot better but even walking slowly iwas very uncomfortable, and now i can barely get out of bed again to hobble to the toilet without being doubled over with pain 😒 I am worried that this must unhealthy for the pregnancy but hopefully the blood thinner injections are helping to keep the blood flowing to the embryos🤞

HJ82 · 20/10/2018 20:04

@CritterTamer oh that sucks!! Don't worry about the teeny beans you'd be surprised at how resilient embies are!! I know so many people who've been through a lot of health issues during the first trimester and some friends who haven't known they were PG and did things you'd never do if you knew. Their babies have all been perfectly healthy ❤️

CritterTamer · 22/10/2018 17:12

Official test day today - clear blue digital says pregnant 2-3 weeks 😊 and first pregnancy scan booked for two weeks today - this is gong to be another long TWW methinks!

Has OHSS scan - There’s still a lot of fluid sloshing around inside me and ovaries are still very large but it’s not getting any worse thank goodness. The plus side is the fact that it’s still there means the pregnancy is still progressing 😊

Not sure how I’m going to cope with two anxious weeks to the scan...

cannonball8726 · 22/10/2018 18:37

Ah great, @crittertamer! And how are you feeling? Have you got things to keep you busy over next 2 weeks?x

@HJ82 I stopped going to Pilates in early preg as was so worried about miscarriage (no evidence behind this, just personal anxiety!) but really keen to go back! Going to try to go tomorrow.

HJ82 · 22/10/2018 18:52

@CritterTamer so happy, I did the CB test at that point too. I wish I could have a scan! I have another her 4.5weeks waiting for first scan 😬 it's the worst.

@cannonball8726 yes if you look into it pilates is def recommended! Just don't do dynamic or intermediate/advanced reformer I guess. I'm doing specific classes for people with back injuries (I had an injury 2years ago and not 100% yet, but nervous about how it will fair with baby on board) but the exercises are targeted at core strengthening and back muscles. It's actually perfect for pregs. You can do specific preg classes too and those are obvs very targeted at these areas. The place I go has some really gentle classes. I go to body control Pilates on little Russell st. It's super affordable and great space xx

CritterTamer · 22/10/2018 18:58

@HJ82 that’s a long wait for first scan and you’re further along then me? Is that the normal wait for a first scan with NHS midwife?

6 weeks is standard for first scan at my IVF clinic - I assume they’re all the same?

HJ82 · 22/10/2018 19:07

@CritterTamer yep that's the standard. Actually I did my ivf round on nhs so I wouldn't have even got an early scan anyway. Nhs don't scan you until between 12-14weeks. I've booked ones a private scan at 10 weeks so I can have the harmony test done. I COULD book a private scan earlier but they usually can't really see anything till 7-8 weeks so I'll just wait till 10 and save myself the additional £100. Ever little bit of change will help! No idea how I'll save enough to take a year off work hahaha. Dammit.

TheArtfulScreamer · 23/10/2018 13:39

Mine was an NHS round at Leeds but they still did a viability scan at 7 weeks, it's strange how different clinics all prescribe differently and do different things.
Critter I found the two weeks before viability scan passed reasonable well as did the 6 weeks between that and dating scan but the weeks between dating scan and my anomaly scan which is Mon seem to have dragged by as I'm in limbo of not feeling movement and not having any real symptoms, Mon can't come quick enough.

CritterTamer · 23/10/2018 13:56

@Theartfulscreamer I guess we just have to focus on it one step at a time - it’s amazing how the worry never goes away, just shifts to a different thing to worry about. After being focused on seeing the elusive BFP for so long, now that it’s arrived I’ve found a hundred new things to worry about! Wish we could just relax and enjoy it 😄

Crazyeyes3 · 26/10/2018 13:22

Hey tried to stay off here a bit but I’m now starting to feel really really nervous about my scan on Tuesday. I’ll be 7+6 and I’m just dreading it.
On I suppose positive note I feel sick pretty much all day and I am living on carbs as that is pretty much all I can eat.

Hope everyone else is doing ok x

CritterTamer · 26/10/2018 13:38

I just got this - I'm over the moon to see it's changed from 2-3 on Monday to this today - I've been terrified of doing another one in case things weren't progressing.

BFP after IVF: nervous ladies needed a handhold Part II
HJ82 · 26/10/2018 14:44

@TheArtfulScreamer if you have ivf then apparently nhs will scan you sooner then 12 weeks too. It's just natural pregnancies they keep you hanging forever.

@CritterTamer I wish clear blue had more tests that measured hcg and did 5 was 7 weeks etc!! It's driving me mad to not get the reassurance the bean is still going strong

TheArtfulScreamer · 26/10/2018 16:01

HJ I think I'd got confused thinking you'd got your BFP from your IVF rather than naturally after your IVF. You have my sympathy it would have felt tortuous for me to wait 12 weeks, its been bad enough the wait between 12 and 20 week and I've seen my baby.
Critter glad things look to be progressing for you I used an additional clear blue to try and reassure myself in the same way.
Crazy good luck for your scan on Tue.

Beherenow32 · 29/10/2018 15:04

How is everyone??
I’m passed halfway now, so not really early pregnancy 🙈 but so tempted to book another private scan... just had one 2 weeks ago though!
Started buying a few things, planning her room etc. It feels more real, and I can feel some movement.
My bump is a big full bump yet- so just waiting for that! 😅

Hope everyone is doing ok x

TheArtfulScreamer · 29/10/2018 20:25

I've had my 20 week scan today and all is well it was even sucking it's thumb and had it's fists up at one point in a boxing pose, we resisted the temptation to find out the sex so are still team yellow. I've been feeling movement over the last week so feel more reassured now. Don't want to wish the next 20 weeks away but I'm so looking forward to meeting my baby.

Beherenow32 · 29/10/2018 20:30

@TheArtfulScreamer amazing news! Only around 4 months until you meet them, and find out if they are a little boy or girl! X

Crazyeyes3 · 29/10/2018 21:39

I’ve got my scan tomorrow. I’ll be 7+6 weeks. I’m absolutely terrified!

Beherenow32 · 30/10/2018 07:35

@Crazyeyes3 all the best! It’s a scary (but amazing!) moment xx

Crazyeyes3 · 30/10/2018 07:38

Thanks. Had a terrible nights sleep. Keep thinking there isn’t going to be anything in there.

cannonball8726 · 30/10/2018 11:37

Best of luck @crazyeyes3. Let us know how you're getting on.

Glad you're both doing well, @beherenow32 and @theartfulscreamer. Great news on your scan, @theartfulscreamer. It must feel like such a relief! I am counting down until mine - 19 days to go...!

cannonball8726 · 30/10/2018 11:38

*how you get on, even!

Itonlytakesone · 30/10/2018 12:09

@TheArtfulScreamer
Well congratulations on your 20 week scan and for resisting the temptation to find out the sex! My 20 week scan is on Thursday I'm terrified as Iv not seen anything since I was 12 weeks.

@cannonball8726
This wait is awful isn't it?

@Crazyeyes3
Aww good luck today

@Beherenow32
Glad you are getting on ok!

TheArtfulScreamer · 30/10/2018 16:43

The wait between 12 weeks and 20 certainly is a killer my trust like to do extra growth scans on IVF pregnancies so I should have another scan around Christmas time.
Crazy I hope your scan has gone ok today.

Crazyeyes3 · 30/10/2018 17:48

Scan went well! Saw the heart beat and it’s the right size. Can’t stop smiling :)

Beherenow32 · 30/10/2018 18:23

@Crazyeyes3 very happy news. It’s a lovely feeling.

No more extra scans for me, but going to hold out and get the 4d scan :) I’ve actually had 5 scans already. Should maybe take a break! X
