BFP after IVF: nervous ladies needed a handhold Part II

Hi everyone,

Think that the last thread for this topic reached its limit, so have started a new one.

Good luck to everyone who has finally got that longed for BFP!

This is a place for everything that comes after the 2WW: celebrating milestones, being (cautiously!) excited, symptom checking, worrying, sharing advice, commiserating bad news, generally keeping each other going, and willing each other along on our way to the 12 week mark.

A bit about me: 39 y/old, 0 DC, IVF ICSI cycle 1, first BFP since TTC, currently 6+0.

Look forward to meeting lots of people with new BFPs and sharing your journey!

Scan not scab 🙄

Crazyeyes3 · 19/10/2018 19:03

I think I can safely say that my little bean is still in there given how sick I am feeling 🤢

I have had low rumbling nausea for the last week and today it has cranked up to feeling awful. Bleurgh!

I’m not complaining though 😄

Beherenow32 · 19/10/2018 19:13

@Crazyeyes3 it’s such a nice feeling to feel so sick! 😊

CritterTamer · 19/10/2018 19:20

Thanks both. Twins aren’t confirmed yet - the very high HCG level is suggesting that that’s the case though. They said scan would be two weeks Monday to confirm.

GemmeFatale · 19/10/2018 20:29

@crazyeyes3 I too am sick as a dog and a scan has confirmed baby is still there. Keeping everything crossed for you too

Itonlytakesone · 20/10/2018 10:25

@CritterTamer
How exciting for you even the possibility of twins and fantastic getting a bfp first time round, I had two embryos implanted too although only one took i was so grateful it worked first time like you.

@GemmeFatale
Feeling sick is a fabulous sign. I got tired of it and ended up on anti nausea tablets!

@cannonball8726
Bump is getting larger definitely looking pregnant now! Still nervously awaiting the next scan.

@Beherenow32
Still nauseous? I bet i would be too if i wasn't on my tablets..only problem is I'm now scared to come off them 🙊

Beherenow32 · 20/10/2018 10:57

@HJ82 under 12 weeks thread x

cannonball8726 · 20/10/2018 12:06

@beherenow32 yes eating better. But just been on holiday and ate a lot of (delicious) crap! Back home now and eating better (although had fish and chips for dinner last night!). Can't believe you are 19 weeks :) It's starting to sink in a bit. I signed up to NCT this week and we wrote a bucket list of things we want to do before baby is here. My husband's friend mentioned that we should start looking for a nursery as their waiting lists are so long in our area...! Think we might put that off for a bit though!

@crittertamer hopefully the next two weeks will fly. How are you feeling today? Do your medical team anticipate you are going to be off work for a couple of weeks to recover?

@crazyeyes3 isn't it weird that we are so glad when the nausea arrives?! I hope it isn't too bad. How long until your scan?

@gemmefatale congrats on the scan! Hope the sickness isn't too bad. How many weeks are you now?

@itonlytakesone a bump :) good stuff. Are you, @theartfulscreamer, @beherenow32, @tigerlily99, @beanhunter in maternity clothes now? I haven't bought any just yet as my jeans still fit but I wear fitted dresses to work and not fitting in most of those anymore! Have a few things to keep me going for the next few weeks though. Also going to go for a bra fitting in next few days as my boobs are bigger.

@beanhunter how are you getting on? Hope you're back home and the sickness has settled?

@HJ82 congrats! So pleased to hear your news as we cycled together :)

CritterTamer · 20/10/2018 12:12

@Cannonball8726 thanks for asking. I’m feeling much better today, the OHSS pain is much reduced along with the nausea. Boobs are also much less sore today so feeling a little anxious to be honest that it might mean my HCG levels are dropping. It’s so weird to be happy to be feeling much better but at the same time worried because I am LOL

beanhunter · 20/10/2018 13:43

No maternity clothes here. Still a stone less than when I got pregnant but starting to eat and stopped losing. With my first I didn’t have a bump until 22 weeks but wasn’t this ill so who knows. Only 14.5 weeks anyway.

Beherenow32 · 20/10/2018 13:55

Can’t beleive that I’ve already had a nap today! Just woke up 🙈

@cannonball8726 ive had to buy bigger sized/ stretchy trousers, leggings. Some jeans still fit because they were big to start with.
Aw, love the idea of your to do list.
I work in a nursery and a lot parents do look round while still pregnant! I’m not sure what our childcare situation will be yet.
Going to look at buggies today. Trying to just be excited now, and look forward
Hope everyone else ok! Xx

TheArtfulScreamer · 20/10/2018 14:07

Wow can't keep up with all the fresh posts.
Congrats critter I remember you from the May/June cycle thread, so pleased you got your BFP this round.
Gem and crazy things are sounding on the up for you both.
Bean I've found the stone you've lost it appears to have made its way to my belly and boobs Grin. I def look pregnant now there's no hiding it really and I think I may have felt it move last night for the first time but in truth I can't be 100% but I'd like to think it was baby and not digestion. I've my 20 week scan a week on Mon so I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing a healthy baby. I've also bought my pram I was wanting to wait a while but the pram I wanted came up on a selling site and was immaculate and to good a deal to miss.
Glad everyone seems to be doing ok its nice to be able to quell the anxiety levels from time to time x

HJ82 · 20/10/2018 17:52

@cannonball8726 ah found it! @Beherenow32 tagged me but I didn't get a notification. Glad to joining you all again albeit a little bit behind 😛 I'm finding this whole 12 week wait very scary. There really isn't support medically like testing hcg here and there or a viability scan at 6-7weeks. You're just in limbo for so long! Squeezing your boobs to check it's still real. I'm only 6weeks so not really getting other symptoms yet. You're all beyond 12 weeks now tho!! I booked a private scan at 10 weeks. Felt like the right move. Hope you're feeling great? Showing yet? I'm already a bit podgy in my tummy naturally, so I won't be able to hide it by 12 weeks I suspect. X

CritterTamer · 20/10/2018 18:07

Hi @HJ82 - I recognise your name - were you in the June group too? Congrats on your BFP! I am not even at 5 wks yet so further behind than you - would love to have someone to share these first few anxious weeks with though if you also would like some (very nervous) support?

cannonball8726 · 20/10/2018 18:17

@crittertamer glad the OHSS symptoms are easing! Yeah I think we all feel anxious about lack of symptoms and then are troubled by the symptoms when they arise! Plus the symptoms come and go so much that it feels like an endless rollercoaster of anxiety that IVF and infertility nicely prime us for! OHSS must just be so awful though. Anyway I'm glad you're feeling a bit better! Is this your first bubba? (It is mine)

@beanhunter glad your intake has increased!

@beherenow32 I was sooo naive about the nursery waiting lists. But I don't want to think about it for a long time as don't want to jinx anything!

@theartfulscreamer ah good work on pram! What did you go for? Know nothing about prams yet.

@HJ82 glad to be reunited with you. Congrats on your preg. Yes the first trimester is really full of anxiety - 12 week wait is appropriate term! Are you still exercising? Remember you were a keen exerciser! How are you feeling? Must have been such a nice feeling to find out about BFP - was it one of your first natural cycles after IVF?

Beherenow32 · 20/10/2018 18:17

@HJ82 I booked a 10 week scan, and it was amazing. Looks like a proper little baby (well, like a jelly baby lol). It was the best moment of my life!

Just had scan a few days ago, and going to try and wait until we do a 4d scan... maybe around 27ish weeks. 😰 xx

cannonball8726 · 20/10/2018 18:18

@HJ82 there are plenty of under 12 weekers on this thread (but also a few hangers on like me who haven't left yet - I have found the support really helpful!)

HJ82 · 20/10/2018 18:19

@CritterTamer yes, I recognise you too! I cycled June/July. BFN early Aug. Then fell naturally after my first ovulation 🙂 I suffered from endo and I'm 100% convinced that the down reg shut it off and subsequently allowed me to conceive. (Buserelin is used to kill endo cells). I'm annoyed I wasn't offered that years ago tbh. I'll be mentioning it to drs... anyway, coincidence or not I'm here now and feeling so happy about this. In shock really. OH is just waiting for the scan for it to be really happening lol. It's quite daunting these early days. Are you just experiencing sore boobs too? I had cramping and spotting for a week around my missed period. Was scary but obvs implantation.

CritterTamer · 20/10/2018 18:31

@Cannonball8726 yes this is my first ever pregnancy! I was feeling much better this morning after actually manag8ng to get some decent sleep last night but the OHSS symptoms came back in a nasty way after lunch. It tends to be worst in the evenings and overnight for some reason.

@HJ82 oh that’s lovely that you didn’t have to go through another round of IVF 😊 I don’t seem to have many pregnancy symptoms but I feel so awful from the OHSS I think it’s hard to tell - that causes constant nausea and severe abdominal pain and bloating. Ive had sore boobs on and off but nothing really significant and put that mostly down to the progesterone pessaries anyway. What I would say is different is odd stabbing and poking pains in my boobs now and then together with an achey feeling, plus the Areolas have gotten much larger. I also had quite a lot of mild cramping and twinging in the uterus this morning. I’ve had no spotting or bleeding of any kind and starting to worry this is not normal as everyone else seems to have some!

cannonball8726 · 20/10/2018 18:43

@crittertamer I have had no bleeding/spotting. I had sore boobs, bloating and pulling pains/twinging in my lower abdo/pelvis at that time. I had never seen BFP before (had never even needed to do pregnancy test as period had never been late). I was so happy to see those lines :)

CritterTamer · 20/10/2018 18:56

@Cannonball8726 that sounds very much like me. To be honest I’ve done two tests and keep looking at them for reassurance as I still cant quite believe they are real/mine. I’ve even had crazy doubts that the clinic have given me someone else’s beta result or worse, put someone else’s embryos back in! I know it’s mad but I was that convinced that I would never ever see those two lines 😊

cannonball8726 · 20/10/2018 19:11

@crittertamer me too - was convinced I would never those lines either. I've never seen my husband look as happy as that moment ❤

HJ82 · 20/10/2018 19:12

@CritterTamer not everyone gets spotting. So sorry about your ohss, that's really tough. I hope it eases soon xx

cannonball8726 · 20/10/2018 19:12

*Never see

HJ82 · 20/10/2018 19:33

@cannonball8726 yes, first ovulation after ivf. I started back at Pilates full time straight after ivf. I'm going 3 days a week now and swimming other days. Both I'll continue through the pregnancy. I think Pilates is important for pregnancy. Plus you don't have to do pelvic floor exercises separately if you do Pilates. I'll switch to a prenatal when I'm further down the track. 😊
