BFP after IVF: nervous ladies needed a handhold Part II

Hi everyone,

Think that the last thread for this topic reached its limit, so have started a new one.

Good luck to everyone who has finally got that longed for BFP!

This is a place for everything that comes after the 2WW: celebrating milestones, being (cautiously!) excited, symptom checking, worrying, sharing advice, commiserating bad news, generally keeping each other going, and willing each other along on our way to the 12 week mark.

A bit about me: 39 y/old, 0 DC, IVF ICSI cycle 1, first BFP since TTC, currently 6+0.

I did read somewhere that ivf pregnancies are more likely to result in a bleed- although I’m unsure of the reason.
I know it’s just be stressful, but it can still all be ok. Take care xx

@Gem I bled at 5 weeks for about 2 hrs and then had a huge bleed at 6+6. I was absolutely convinced with the second that it was over.
I was given serial bloods after he first bleed which was reassuring and then a scan at 6 weeks which showed something in the right place but no definite hb. After the second bleed I was 100% convinced I had miscarried and yet somehow here I am approaching 14 weeks.
So whilst I can’t tell you it will be ok I can tell you that it may be and you have to hang on to that. Big hugs, it’s a crappy old rollercoaster.

Oh i feel for you, i really hope that you are ok, I can't imagine how scary this must be for you 🙁 please keep resting ( lots!) and try to think positive about Thursday.

I hope this thread has helped you at this unimaginable time, sending you big hugs and please keep us informed. Bean is an inspiration to us all. Everyday is still a worry, Iv not had a scan since 12 weeks it's so hard not to worry.

@beanhunter I hope I’m lucky but I’m just convinced it’s not there anymore.

@itonlytakesone if it’s still there I’m goig to turn into one of those anxiety fuelled types who wants reassurance scans every ten minutes.

Iv had stretching type pain yesterday down my left side now early this morning it's radiating over the top of my stomach stitch like. It's so worrying i understand it's probably normal but without being pregnant before and it being so early Iv nothing to go off. Going to call midwife as soon as it's open today to see what they say 😨Iv had a few tears i just want everything to be ok

Put my pessary in this morning and there was blood on the end of the inserter. Went back to bed and 2 hours later there is some more blood when I wipe. I don’t have any cramps and still feel sick, sore boobs etc.
Starting to panic a bit as I have been convinced something would go wrong. I’m 6 weeks tomorrow

@crazyeyes3 - I’m a few days behind you (5+5) and bleed at 5

I don’t know how it’s going yet but we can give each other a hand hold if you like?

Try not to panic. Look at beanhunter up there. Our beans might also still be fine.

Are you due a six or eight week scan?

@GemmeFatale A hand hold would be good. I’ve been trying to stay calm throughout this whole process but now feeling really worried.

My scan is 2 weeks today so at 8 weeks. I wasn’t going to ring my clinic unless the bleeding continues as I don’t think there is much they can do.
I did a clear blue digital test yesterday and it said pregnant 3+ so it had gone up over the last couple of days. I’m also feeling really sick this morning so I’m just really hoping this is a small blip. 😬

I rang mine and they said a bright red bleed at this time isn’t uncommon. Apparently as the placenta forms and settles we can burst blood vessels. I have to say I don’t feel incredibly comforted by that; even though I know, practically, I should.

I was also told if I was in pain or really worried I could go to A&E to be checked over but I figured it was too early for a scan to be conclusive either way and I’d only be more upset by that. I also hate the idea of being that person in A&E, though if I’d been a bit further along or in physical pain I probably would go.

I bloody hate that after all this time and effort and money to get pregnant we can’t just bloody enjoy it. I look at my friends who got there naturally in the first few months of trying and they’re drinking alcohol (daily glass of wine for some) and eating all the danger zone foods because they don’t see the risk as a big deal and I could scream for all they take for granted.

Sorry. Went off on my tangential rant there.

We will be fine. Our embryo/babies are still there.

@Itonlytakesone I have had the exact pains. One was so bad and intense yesterday, I had to stop until it was over.
Then major panic last night. My dog jumped on my belly 😫 I phoned midwife (although I know it’s prob fine) and she had no concerns. I wanted to listen to the heartbeat, but they couldn’t today, and scan is tomorrow. I’m sitting here waiting for her to move about 😖
Phone your midwife if you are worried, but it honestly sounds the same as me.

I called and got triaged and spoke with a midwife. She said as id taken paracetamol and rested and it eased that it should be fine. To rest eat and relax. I'm taking it easy today although just been to shop walking at the pace of an old granny 👵🏻

My pain sounds similar to yours? Growing/bowel pains i hope. It was so intense i was in tears worrying, it hurt to take breaths in. Are we ever going to be worry free? My next scan is my 20 week one in November so an anxious wait ahead🤕. Iv not felt her move yet either, absolutely nothing. Hope you're ok after the dog 🐶 incident, your baby is well protected though i would probably worry just like you are I'm not going to lie..!

Try not to panic about the blood bean has had bleeding and is proof all can be fine. The fact that you have pregnancy symptoms is a very good sign. Let us all know how you are getting on.

That's terrible some of your pregnant friends drink alcohol still and eat the danger zone foods. We all worked so hard to achieve our bfp it doesn't bare thinking about to do anything to endanger our babies! We will appreciate all our hard work though much much more.

@Itonlytakesone I wouldn’t say that I had been struggling to take breaths. So, make sure you take it easy! I’ve had stretching, period type, cramp and stitch pain.
I’ve been feeling her for a few weeks now. Which I know is really early. Need to try and relax before my scan tomorrow.
Hope you’re feeling better, and it just means baby is growing.

Sorry to @GemmeFatale and @Crazyeyes3 about your worries. It is such a stressful time

So I spent most of yesterday running back and forth to the toilet but everything slowed down and by the end of the day all I had was a bit of brown spotting.

After a restless night I have woken up to no more and feeling sick. Taking this to be a good sign. My cervix feels a bit achey so I think I may have jabbed it with the pessary inserter and that is what has bled. I have had treatment in the past on my cervix as I kept getting bleeds so I’m really hoping this is what I have done.
I won’t be happy until my scan though and I won’t believe I still have something in there until I see it.

Thanks for everyone’s lovely words. This whole process is really pushing me to the edge!

@Crazyeyes3 the pesseries can cause irratation too can’t they? That could be all it is.

@crazyeyes3 we don’t get an inserter - we had to insert either in the backdoor or like an old style non applicator tampon. Might be worth trying to see if you feel you have more control of where it goes?

@beherenow32 congrats! That is lovely news. Still 4.5 weeks until mine... so hard not to worry. The stakes are so high with IVF. It is really hard.

Ah congratulations on the scam going well brilliant news hopefully mine will it Iv had similar symptoms 🙏🏻Iv felt bit better today still all a bit tender though where I'm stretching from it's all very weird feelings i just can't get used to how you never feel 'normal' being pregnant!

Hi ladies, do you mind if I join in? Had a failed cycle in June this year and have just had my BFP today from cycle 2. I came down with moderate late onset OHSS so had an early beta HCG done yesterday at 9dp5dt which has come back at 597 so looks like this might be twins at the moment. It’s my first ever pregnancy (and BFP) and I’m absolutely terrified - could really use a handhold particularly as I feel so shitty from the OHSS 😊

Ah wow @CritterTamer! Congrats - that's lovely news. Remember you from the June/ July thread. Sorry to hear about the OHSS - that's really crappy - are you feeling a little better?

@beherenow32 and @itonlytakesone - how are those bumps coming along? I'm 15+1 now and told people this week as I'm getting a little bump. Was trying to keep it quieter for longer but it was getting hard to hide. Plus my boobs have enlarged so it's pretty obvious!

Hey @Cannonball8726 I remember you too - can’t believe you’re 15 weeks now - how are you doing?

The OHSSis crap to be honest - especially at night I don’t think I’ve really slept for 5 nights now. During the day it’s not too bad as long as i don’t move or eat! The good news is the blood tests weren’t too bad so dr thinks as long as i rest, drink plenty and do a daily injection of blood thinner then the embies should be ok.

@cannonball8726 that’s so exciting! Love a wee bump lol well, people are telling me they see it now... it I still feel like it’s tiny! Maybe I’m just getting used to it. I’m 19 weeks today

Nearly threw up on the way to work this morning so still getting waves of symptoms xx

@crittertamer that's horrible. I hope you've got your feet up at home and you see some recovery soon. Glad the bloods are looking okay. And twins! Crazy. Have they mentioned when your scan would be?

@beherenow32 I'm feeling so much better than first trimester but do occasionally feel nauseated. Amazing that you're past the anomaly scan. Do you feel a bit more relaxed now?

How is everyone else getting on?

@cannonball8726 good you’re feeling better. Are you managing to eat well? Don’t know why I’m struggling with fruit/ veg. Need to sort that out lol. I am relaxed after my scab, yeah. I’ll prob be wanting another scan in a couple of weeks!
