Welcome clomiphene citrate people!

Come and chat about all things Clomid.

I'm Alice
33 years old
TTC#1
Cycle 31

Had all the tests and finally got the go-ahead today (a prescription and letter in the post!) So bit of a surprise. Will be starting on CD2 in about 4 days time hopefully.

Scared, excited, nervous.

Hi, I've been following this thread and hope it is ok if I join in. I'll be starting clomid in a few days time if AF arrives, which I suspect it will!

39 years old
TTC#1
Cycle 19
CD 25

I have PCO (though not PCOS and I have regular periods) and have been told I am high risk for multiple ovulation on clomid as every time scanned I have around 25 follicles on each ovary so will be going for regular monitoring ultrasounds. Hoping this is not going to be more than once per cycle as worried about how I'll fit these in around work :-/

Hope everyone is doing ok and fingers crossed for us all!

AliceScarlett · 30/08/2018 14:49

@December2018 Aw thank-you nice to hear a positive story, gives me hope. Hope is so important.

@shelleybear0313 Welcome! I get ALL the symptoms in the 2ww, you would think after 34 cycles I'd give it up, but I still get waylaid sometimes thinking 'this is the month'. Hope you get your BFP soon.

@flipKat Join in :) 25 on each!? Cripes. Is this your first Clomid cycle?

I do feel for you all in the 2ww, such a torturous time. Keeping busy and distracted is the only thing that helps me.

@Snowrose??

I'm CD13 FF says I'm due to Ov today, but CM has gone back to the usual scant and creamy, so I worry DTD is pointless....i realise that is irrational.

I'm going on holiday next week and AF is due smack bang in the middle of it :( I'm taking a FRER just in case though...hope and all that.

Hey amicescarlet, been trying so long now I do too often get het up, but this month with the Clomid is been the toughest yet. Slight random question, up until today Iv felt like my cervix has been lying so so low, dtd has been painful for weeks m, since ov really, anyone else had this or can relate? 💖xxx

AliceScarlett · 31/08/2018 11:52

I thought pain during sex should be something to go to the GP about?

Came home from work today ill, nauseous and stomach pain..could be Clomid, could be a bug, could be neither, who knows!

CD14.

Hope you're ok @AliceScarlett- you feeling better now?

I started spotting today so am out for this month again Sad. It just sucks, as me and my DH both had high hopes for this month. On the bright side my cycle has been exactly the same this month as 1st clomid cycle - ov on cd13, spotting cd 25, so silver lining and all that....

Think this next clomid cycle might be my last before IVF. No pressure then.

MistressDeeCee · 02/09/2018 23:46

I took Clomid in 1993 when I was 31, trying for DC1. I had PCOS and very irregular periods. Worked, and DC1 was born 1994. The side effects were unusual...! When I walked on carpet looked like patterns were moving, I also saw shadows as if someone were next to me. I had DC2 naturally afterwards in 1995 so I guess Clomid opened the way.

Good luck all💐

Rmw12 · 03/09/2018 07:36

Aah okay, sorry @alicescarlett, I must have misread one of your posts as I thought you were in cycle 7 for some reason!

I’m the same with symptom spotting every month, even after over 3 years! It’s especially bad on clomid as it definitely gives me pregnancy symptoms, so frustrating!

Otherwise I haven’t had many other strong symptoms, definitely hot flashes, discomfort in my stomach and some nausea. Does anyone have nausea at a particular point in their cycle? I struggle to know when I have OVd. I think because I haven’t been for a long time but they think I definitely did last month so I’m hopeful for this month. I’m CD 16 and have felt nauseous today and yesterday so wondering if that might be post ovulation, pre ovulation!? I’m using opks but have never had a positive, I’m also temping but it varies by a degree and a half regularly so it’s difficult to tell!

Sorry total ramble there! 😄

BvR1984 · 04/09/2018 12:08

Hi. Im new here. This is my first cycle of Clomid. Today is day 17. I had such bad ovulation pain last night. Not nice to try and conceive when feeling like that.

shelleybear0313 · 04/09/2018 12:46

Hi rmw12 I had a day of sickness on the tww. If fact Iv had every symptom. I'm 2 days past when my af was due, sickness is apparently my best friend these last two days but still bfn! 😢 don't suppose anyone else has had anything similar? I have a really short cycle of 24 days and wondering if Clomid has made any of you ladies af late? Driving me slightly crazy, as if the tww isn't long enough! 😂 xxx

AliceScarlett · 04/09/2018 16:37

Oh no Shelleybear! How frustrating, but hold out hope!! It's looking good. Fingers crossed for a BFP soon.

Welcome @BvR1984 ovulation pain isn't pleasent. But at least the Clomid is working :)

@gettingimpatientnow AF turned up yet? Hope it just stays at spotting. When are you due to start IVF?

I'm in the 2ww now. On and off nausea as usual, maybe that is a common side effect? Kind of worried about AF turning up on holiday, it will be my 34th period and I have no reason to think that this cycle will be the one, we have thrown everything at it: gaulfesien (however it is spelt), preseed, DTD 9 times, I've done SO much mindfulness meditation you would not believe. Hopes are up. Just not pleasent having AF on holiday, especially in these circumstances.

I've got an appointment at the fertility clinic tomorrow, so who knows what that will hold, a pointless 3 minutes with a registrar no doubt 😣

Hi all, my first month on Clomid.... Does it make anyone else feel really really down? I feel so sad, I hate this feeling. Got a Fitness class shortly, hoping the endorphins will make me crack a smile!

GettingImpatientNow · 04/09/2018 22:57

Dawn K77- I have had intense periods of sadness. (very unusual for me)...enough to make me what to quit the whole trying for a baby process. But they did pass eventually, so I hope yours do too.

AliceScarlett - AF arrived yesterday. Dr recommended min 3 months of clomid before IVF but it's up to us really...could try it for longer (scared of IVF!). What on earth is gaulfesein?? I've thought about meditation, might give it a go.

shelleybear0313 · 05/09/2018 07:24

Alicescarlett try and keep positive. And even if it is just signing your name it's one step closer to that little miracle. Sprinkling baby dust your way.

Dawnk77 Iv had a few bad days too, not even angry just really sad, it's not like me at all. I'm also on my first month and the side effects Iv found really intense. Keep your chin up, the end result will hopefully be a different sad, one where you remember what it was like to have a full nights sleep. Baby dust to you too.

I'm not 4 days late, absolutely no sign of af but also those bfn every morning! Iv not made a decision I'm not testing till Monday! I'll either hopefully get a bfp or af will have come. Just a waiting game now. 🙈 xxx

AliceScarlett · 05/09/2018 10:22

@DawnK77 Looking back yes it has made me feel depressed, and also quite angry. At the time I thought it was just me, but with hindsight...

@Gettingimpatientnow Sorry to hear AF arrived. Have you done all the tests and forms for IVF? I wonder if there is a waiting list? In theory you could continue to have Clomid cycles while sorting out IVF?
www.fertilityplus.com/faq/cm.html : Thins mucus as in chesty coughs, also works down there Grin Although I stopped taking it as its full of Sorbitol and that upsets my stomach.
Re: Mindfulness, If you subscribe to HeadSpace they have a pregnancy 'pack' 30 sessions worth: www.headspace.com/blog/2015/11/24/welcome-to-the-pregnancy-pack/ It is a bit weird to do it when not pregnant, but he does say it can be used to 'create favourable environments for conception' and the evidence-base for mindfulness is significant so I'll go with that.

@Shelleybear Thank-you x
Argh, feel your pain. 4 days late! Are you using a FRER with FMU? Very good of you to wait til Monday!

So my appt with the clinic actually went really well. They said I'm responding well to the Clomid, and get this, he said the Clomid has a cumulative effect, so you're more likely to get pregnant on each subsequent cycle! Good news. I got another 3 cycles worth to take.

We did allllll the forms for my one funded cycle of IVF, both DH and I need blood tests, etc. I have an appt in early Dec to refer to the clinic, should be January actually starting the IVF.
Bit scary, but overall pleased.

OP posts:
GettingImpatientNow · 05/09/2018 10:42

Thanks for the tips!

We're not eligible for funded IVF as already have one child, so I think it will be a simpler process if we're paying. Good / interesting to hear clomid has cumulative effect though. I think I'll start process for IVF next month but keep taking clomid in the mean time. Glad your appt went well.

GettingImpatientNow · 05/09/2018 10:51

@Shelleybear0313, do you know if you definitely ovulated this month? I was just reading an article on clomid and found the following:

Whats it mean when you have a missed menstrual period on Clomid and a negative pregnancy test?
If you take Clomid and your menstrual period has not come when you expected, then do a pregnancy test. A repeatedly negative pregnancy test after a missed period and Clomid usually means that you did not ovulate, Clomid did not work, and you are not pregnant.
If you don't ovulate then you will usually not bleed, you may not get any bleeding or it will be irregular. You may bleed or spot irregularly but it's not a menstrual period.

www.babymed.com/fertility-problems/making-clomiphene-clomid-work-you

Don't want to put a downer on it, but it just reminded me of your situation. Fingers crossed this isn't the case though.

shelleybear0313 · 05/09/2018 13:34

Alicescarlett that's brilliant news, so happy for you, something to look forward to in the January blues.

Gettingimpatientnow it's not that I don't ovulate, i had an ectopic last year and got no where since. I'm not being monitored and Iv only got the Clomid because my doctor is a bit pants. And to shut me up! 🙈 I was using ovulation sticks but getting no where and didn't realise I was supposed to do them in the evening! So gave up and thought no more about it this month, now I'm convinced looking back at my daily log I ovulated really late for me, if this is the case nothing will show on a test till late next week! Needless to say I'm up the wall, especially with not knowing when I ovulated. So I'm not buying any more tests till next week, either af will be here or hopefully a bfp! 😂🙈xxx

AliceScarlett · 05/09/2018 15:34

Shelley what cycle day are you on? Are you thinking AF will be two weeks from over? Sorry I'm being nosey!

Picked up my Clomid today as I'll need it on holiday if AF shows up. Also been researching clinics, wow the rates for IVF are incredibly poor :( less than 30% live birth per cycle is awful. Surprised the NHS even bother funding it tbh. Not feeling confident about it. At all.

OP posts:
shelleybear0313 · 05/09/2018 15:57

I took Clomid days 11-15. But after doing more searching it looks like I may not of ovulated till the 25th that can follow on to mean I only implanted yesterday or day before that makes sense for the no show of the af but negative tests. All of this info tho is me living in huge hopes of me actually being pregnant and not Clomid just interfering with my hormones and af! It's honestly sending my a little crazy this month as Iv had so many symptoms. But is that simply because I'm picking on every detail. Oh I don't know! I'm going to sit on my hands till Monday now. To hard seeing that bfn every morning. Xxx

shelleybear0313 · 05/09/2018 16:02

Sorry on another note my friend recently went through ivf, she had PCOS and endometriosis. She got pregnant on her frozen round but sadly ended at 21 weeks. This is still currently under investigation. But it's not thought down to the ivf. Xxx

Rmw12 · 05/09/2018 19:39

Hi @shelleybear0313, I guess nausea can come at any time with clomid. I had a long cycle and clomid seems to have shortened it a bit, I think it’s supposed to regulate it so it would make sense if yours has lengthened. Fingers crossed for a bfp for you though!

Hi @dawnk77, it’s had me feeling a bit emotional and down too.

That’s great news @alicescarlett, hopefully you might not even have to get to that stage though. My sister has had IVF twice and it worked first time each time so don’t lose hope. If it’s funded it’s definitely worth a try. My sisters first was funded and she had to pay for the second but had eggs frozen so it wasn’t nearly as much as a standard one. Good to know about the clomid effect too. I’ve used headspace but didn’t know about the pregnancy one, I’ll have a look.

@gettingimpatientnow, we’re in the same boat with one child already. It seems unfair that everyone doesn’t get one funded cycle. I just had my follow up appointment with the consultant and as expected he said if this last month hasn’t worked we should go for ivf. I would do it in a heartbeat if I was sure it would work but I think I’ll feel worse spending all that money and getting nowhere than if I don’t do it at all so it’s a tough decision.

GettingImpatientNow · 05/09/2018 21:42

Shellybear, I think we use the same fertility app - Flo?! Smile good isn't it. I've never heard of taking clomid cd 11 before - why so late?

Rmw12, I know exactly what you mean about IVF...I don't think I could handle it not working and thinking that all of that money down th drain, let alone thinking of paying it out again. I'm seriously considering egg donation - reduces the cost by about £4k!

shelleybear0313 · 06/09/2018 09:14

Good morning ladies, sorry gettingimpatientnow what I meant was I taken Clomid from the 11th August to the 15th! Sorry expecting you to make sense out of my nonsense. The flo app is great. Easy to use and to document stuff. Think Iv got the arrival of my af this morning! 😢 nothing kicked off properly yet but think I'm out. Actually quite gutted. Not much to be done but to carry on tho. How's everyone else feeling? Xxx

GettingImpatientNow · 06/09/2018 09:43

Aww that's rubbish. Sad Onwards and (hopefully) upwards. Hope you're feeling ok, I can imagine it's quite a blow thinking you were late.

I decided to start temping again this cycle and then promptly forgot this morning! Think I'll have to put the thermometer on my phone so I see it when my alarm goes off Confused

shelleybear0313 · 06/09/2018 10:11

It is a bit crap but no point in feeling sorry for myself. I was just looking at temping. Not done that before but maybe worth a shot. Going to tray and relax more this month. This baby making business is hard work! 😂 if everything kicks off today I'll start the Clomid again tomorrow. Onwards and upwards! 🙈xxx
