Welcome clomiphene citrate people!

Come and chat about all things Clomid.

I'm Alice
33 years old
TTC#1
Cycle 31

Had all the tests and finally got the go-ahead today (a prescription and letter in the post!) So bit of a surprise. Will be starting on CD2 in about 4 days time hopefully.

Scared, excited, nervous.

Join in.

Not sure about luteul phase deficient. I know that the NHS has been criticised for going straight for IVF and not fully exploring other problems and solutions. At the end of the day the clinicians don't look at people's charts so they don't really gain that insight. Plus if there isn't a NICE recommended treatment then they won't do anything. The US is so different because of how it is funded. Like scans are expensive so gynos will encourage them because they get money from insurance companies, NHS would disencourage them because they're expensive!

This is what I’ve worried about and why I wondered about progesterone supplements. It’s ptpbably all Americans I’ve read about online being prescribed it. I got some good news today though, my last blood test was 27 for progesterone, instead of the usual 15 or less so they think I ovulated and have suggested trying one more month of clomid. So, everything crossed again! I still have to go to the consultants follow up in a couple of weeks and see what they say but he said before that if the clomid didn’t work he’d just suggest IVF so I’m sure that’s what he’ll say to do if this month doesn’t work.

NatalieMorisco · 23/08/2018 00:13

Hi everyone,

I’ve just joined and am wondering how bad your symptoms were when you first started Clomid?

I started my first cycle tonight of 50mg and I’ve had a really painful stomach all night which only subsides when I’m lying still. The pain is so bad I’m almost sick. Along with an incredibly dry mouth it’s not been a great experience so far!

When I was younger I couldn’t take any form of the pill as none ever sat well with me. Maybe it’s related?

I was wondering if anyone has had anything like this and has any advice on how to handle these sort of symptoms?

Thank you!

GettingImpatientNow · 23/08/2018 07:15

no sorry, I think you should talk to your doctor about it. I don't remember stomach pain being a listed symptom.

Remaininghopeful · 23/08/2018 20:43

I'm on CD17 of my first Clomid cycle. I get the stomach pains too but not as severe. It's listed on my information leaflet as a side effect but if it's that bad I'd speak to your doctor.

I got my tracking scan on CD10 but follicles weren't big enough so went back on CD14 and have had to abandon this cycle because there are too many developing (5 had grown to a big enough size). I realise I'm lucky it's had a positive effect but very disappointing to have to completely abandon. Half dose next month (if these follicles have disappeared).

Fingers crossed for everyone :)

tinyradish · 23/08/2018 23:36

Got my bfp this evening at 11dpo. Very dark line as well! Hoping all goes well as obviously its very early days.

Didn't ovulate until CD41! (first Clomid cycle) Had given up hope of ovulation let alone pregnancy so over the moon right now :)

Hope you're all soon to follow.

AliceScarlett · 24/08/2018 15:27

@tinyradish!! Yay! 1st one on the thread :) Congratulations x

@remaininghopeful What a shame :( How do you abandon? Like are there not maybe swimmers already in your tubes?

@Nataliemorisco I have very mild twinges, and hot flushes at night, nothing like that. Hope you're OK now.

I'm on CD7, gearing up for the fertile window. Going to take cough medicine this cycle to thin out the old mucus....TTC is so glamorous.

Remaininghopeful · 24/08/2018 15:48

@AliceScarlett as it's the first cycle we were told not to partake prior to the scan on CD10 so no swimmers in there. We now have to use protection for the rest of the cycle then I'll get a scan on CD2 to check everything is back to normal before I take my half dose.

oh I haven't heard of the cough medicine thing - I might try that next month! glamorous indeed!!!

AliceScarlett · 24/08/2018 15:55

Oh how frustrating! Surely the chance of you having 5 babies is minimal though?!

GettingImpatientNow · 24/08/2018 19:57

Yay tinyradish! That's so exciting and very happy for you. Fingers crossed for the rest of us now (and for your progress).

I'm about 3days dpo and have been told not to test until 21 days dpo as the drugs I took to induce ovulation (ovitrelle) will give false positive results. I'm trying to be positive this month (yes it means risk of dashed hopes) as I think my negativity last month can't have had a good affect.

AliceScarlett · 24/08/2018 22:13

1ww for you then! Not too bad. Fingers crossed for you x

Snowrose92 · 24/08/2018 23:05

Hello ladies

I'm still on my first round of clomid, I found out it worked, made some follicles and did actually ovulate with a score of 60 with me 21 day blood test thing. Now this dreaded 2ww, I'm currently 13po. I tried a test a couple days ago and got a BFN. Dreading to test again, but since ovulation my boobs have hurt, keep getting cramps, and this last week around lunch time I feel sick and it doesn't go away, and then more cramps. I have no idea when AF is suppose to appear and I'm clinging to everything that could be possible signs it's driving me crazy. When's the right time to test?

angel2028 · 25/08/2018 10:57

@tinyradish Congratulations!! Wishing you all the best xx

tinyradish · 25/08/2018 13:59

Thank you so much :) gonna be keeping an eye on this thread - want to see all your bfps popping up too xx

Rmw12 · 25/08/2018 15:14

Hi @nataliemorisco, hope you’re feeling a bit better. I’ve had dull aches but noting painful.

Congratulations @tinyradish, great news!

@alicescarlett, do you mind if I ask how many cycles you are doing? I was told I couldn’t do more than 6 but because the 6th one was the first time my blood test showed that I may have ovulated they are allowing me one more month.

Hello @snowrose92, I know what you mean about thinking every little thing is a pregnancy symptom. I get this every month! 😬 I think if you’re not sure when AF is due to arrive I’d test maybe every few days, I’m not sure though. Fingers crossed for a BFP for you though.

NatalieMorisco · 25/08/2018 16:27

@rmw12 and @alicescarlett i’m feeling much better thank you and all side effects seem to have stopped for now Smile. If it comes back i’ll definitely consult the doctor.

I hope everything is going well for everyone!

TTC73 · 26/08/2018 19:52

Currently on my 3rd of my first cycle of clomid and i haven't had any side effects or anything is that normal ? Im on 200mg a day from 2-6 so finish on Wednesday but i thought been on such a high dose that id have had some effect by now

Mimi127 · 26/08/2018 21:58

I haven’t had any side effects whatsoever but only on 100mg. Previous cycles only on 50mg, also no side effects. However I haven’t got pregnant so not sure that no side effects is necessarily a good thing.

TTC73 · 26/08/2018 22:25

That's how i feel too if im not getting the side effects is it even working ?

AliceScarlett · 27/08/2018 08:43

@TTC73 I've researched Clomid quite a bit, most women tolerate it fine, I think that if people do have side effects they're more likely to talk about them on the internet and therefore the information gets skewed. I have barely any side effects and my 21 day bloods are great. Fingers crossed for you!

@rmw12 I'm currently on my 3rd cycle. I received a prescription for 3 months worth through the post! My next fertility appointment is next week. So who knows what will be done then. We can't start IVF until January due to having to try for 3 years.

@snowrose I think 14dpo is the general time to test isn't it? The day your period is due is when I've tested in the past. Really hope it is a BFP for you.

The chesty cough syrup is working great! As Clomid is known to effect cervical fluid I was really keen to to counteract this. It's really watery on CD 9 which is unusual for me. Yay. Will definitely be carrying on with this.

Twiglet2353 · 27/08/2018 12:42

@AliceScarlett what days should we take the cough syrup? And is it just once a day or 2/3 times as per dosage if you had a cold?

December2018 · 27/08/2018 13:20

Hi ladies I've been reading thru this thread this morning it sure brings it all back to me...
We tried for 7 years for our little miracle
We did clomid, hycosy test, laparoscopy... went thru the ivf referral (we got denied on nhs) we went thru 4 different hospitals and god knows how many fertility specialists on our journey...
You name it we've been thru it and tried tried and tried again!!

And I just wanted to say to you all never give up hope, and stay strong... you will all get your magical beans soon
Some mountains are harder to climb than others... but you will get there in the end, be kind to yourselves and try not to put too much pressure on yourselves either (easier said than done I know very well) 😖
Lots of loves and hugs to you all 😘😘

shelleybear0313 · 29/08/2018 08:39

Morning ladies, hope you don't mind me jumping in. 😃 Iv had my first round on Clomid this month, trying extremely hard not to symptom spot but let's just say it's not going well...🧐 has anyone else had these symptoms, sore nipples but not boobs...( my boobs just don't work, never have, I got big but broken ones! 😝) cramps pretty consistently since ovulation, lots of creamy cm, more than Iv ever had previously, and my cervix feels extremely low, sex is painful, sorry about tmi, af due Monday, bfn this morning, also dh said I'm hormonal, obviously he's telling lies the fact that I cried and then nearly murdered him within ten minutes was entirely down to his behaviour! 😜 anyone else feel like pulling teeth would be preferable to this tww? Anyone else with similar symptoms or am I on this boat alone? Baby dust to you all! 💖x

GettingImpatientNow · 29/08/2018 09:01

Hi Shelleybear, I've not had all those symptoms but certainly some of them and I think everyone reacts differently. I've definitely struggled with hormones and already feeling pre-menstrual (currently 8dpo) so I think I'm out for this month. The tww is tough....

Snowrose - any news?

shelleybear0313 · 29/08/2018 09:30

Morning gettingimpatientnow, thanks for the response, I really hope your wrong and it's just a little bean nesting in. This month has definitely been a hard one, all these pregnancy symptoms but trying so hard to blame them on the Clomid. But do genuinely feel pregnant. I had an ectopic last year and my right tube removed due to rupture, been ttc since but not so much as a almost pregnant. I have really short cycles 24 days and wondering if this is another reason I'm not getting caught. 5 days till I find out for sure, obviously going to feel like a few years! 🙈xxx
