Welcome clomiphene citrate people!

Come and chat about all things Clomid.

I'm Alice

Had all the tests and finally got the go-ahead today (a prescription and letter in the post!) So bit of a surprise. Will be starting on CD2 in about 4 days time hopefully.

Thankyou it’s put my mind at rest a little
Hope your journey is going well Smile

Hummingbirdsarang · 07/01/2019 19:27

@gemlou0302 I wouldn't worry about short periods on clomid- mine was and there was nothing wrong (besides 4 follicles) with my womb lining. I don't normally have regular periods but on clomid because I ovulated I had a period on day 30. Before cycle 1 I had to take a pill to bring on a period.

Anoncom · 08/01/2019 18:25

Anyone had side effects from clomid?

Hummingbirdsarang · 08/01/2019 18:54

On cycle one I had really bad side effects including ovarian pain and extreme mood swings. It had over stimulated my ovaries resulting in 4 follicles. I also then went on to have th eworst period pain ever. Cycle 2 no real side effects just a headache and I had my scan today and just 1 follicle so good to try finally yay.

LisaCookie · 08/01/2019 23:06

Well the magic didn't happen :( . . Month 2 of 50mg , just took my first tablet . . Positivity all the way! Can't wait to wake up sweating and cry all day . . Honest! . . Hope everyone is well xx

juneybean · 08/01/2019 23:26

Hi all stopped posting as I still haven't ovulated, really gutted and don't think there is any hope for me at this point.

Have got enough Clomid for another cycle but this is the second in a row where I've not ovulated.

LisaCookie · 09/01/2019 00:00

@juneybean don't lose hope! Never lose hope!! . Get that other cycle in . See what happens x

juneybean · 09/01/2019 10:54

Thanks @LisaCookie I just don't know what to do after the last pills, as the NHS won't do anything for us and we can't afford IVF at this point (and tbh I'm not sure I want to go through it).

gemlou0302 · 09/01/2019 11:29

@juneybean it is hard however just try and be positive as women can fall after cycle 5 and 6 so this could be your shot. Positive thoughts and good luck 😊

Hi all, I'm after some advice/opinions please -

The NHS process where I live is crap. I had my initial referral after 2 years ttc in Jan 2018. Now 3 years ttc in Jan 2019 and in that time i've only actually had 2 NHS appointments which didn't really amount to much but more bloods and semen tests. Diagnosed PCOS and male factor is fine. Sent away to return in March 19.
My clinic only seems to care about IVF. They told me i'll be eligible in May 2019 and to come back in March for pre-IVF prep. At no point have I been offered any alternative lower level treatment on the NHS prior to upcoming IVF.

So i did my research and in those lengthy 6 month appointment waits I found a private consultant and paid for clomid. It worked well for me ovulating on 50mg with no side effects and i've completed the first 3 months (but no BFP).

Now the question is... I would really like to give clomid a longer go and really i'd like to avoid IVF and conceive naturally if I can.

However, if I chose to do this and continue with clomid privately I forfeit my referral place for NHS funded IVF in May 19 and would have to start the process again via the NHS in the future for IVF if it was required.. and its a bloody long old process.

To complicate matters, the reason I don't want to do IVF this May 19 is because I am getting married in June. I am totally happy with the possibility of being a pregnant bride but I am not OK about the prospect of having IVF treatment at the same time/time around my wedding.

I have asked to postpone IVF for a few months but have been told the constraints on my borough clinics do not allow preferential rearranging.

I feel like IVF should be a last resort for me (I hope) but I don't want to risk losing this opportunity of NHS funding. I don't feel ready for IVF.

Any thoughts please?...

  • In case anyone wonders - May was randomly the date given to us at initial referral as we would become eligible after 3.5 years of TTC. We booked our wedding date 2 years in advance obviously never expecting that to coincide.
Mol5 · 09/01/2019 17:30

I just re-read that and I really don't want it to sound superficial. It is not about superficial aspects of my wedding at all - simply the emotional, physical and mental strain. I am terrified of IVF and it feels me with anxiety.

But I know how lucky I am to have this opportunity in the first place that I know others don't have. I don't want to sound ungrateful by any means. I just don't know if I'll manage this mentally.

juneybean · 09/01/2019 17:39

Honestly as someone who can't get funding I would take it with both hands. I know it should be a last resort but you need to snatch it before they take it off you.

gemlou0302 · 09/01/2019 18:05

@Mol5 I really feel for you as a wedding alone can be stressful at the run up to it. However what I don’t understand is why you would have to forfeit your IVF place if you continue to take clomid as I am sure you can only take it for 6 months and that surely will have ended in March. Then could you not just delay the process by cancelling the odd appointment which I know isn’t ideal however living with an NHS that have hardly any Fetility funding in my area and don’t even get follow ups or scans I would really just consider it. Could you not ask the private clinic what the next stages with them would be after clomid but before IVF and go back to the NHS with that as IVF is the most expensive option. Hope that helps and good luck 😊

Twiglet2353 · 09/01/2019 18:14

@Mol5 I second what @gemlou0302 has said x

Iqra786 · 09/01/2019 19:41

@mol5 I agree with @twiglet2353 and @gemlou0302 :) good luck with it all and don't lose hope!

@twiglet2353 how are things with you.. Have you started another round of clomid? I'm waiting for AF to start

Twiglet2353 · 09/01/2019 19:50

@Iqra786 my uterus has just thrown a complete curveball and I STILL haven't come on. Spotting started 6dpo (7dp +OPK), and is still going on at 14dpo. Mainly dark brown discharge with occasional streak of dark red. No need for pad or tampon. Definitely not like a period yet.
Not sure if I'm just having the longest luteal phase I've ever had with loads of spotting, OR the 100mg thinned my lining and so my usual spotting has just progressed into a really light period?

Either way I haven't started the 150mg Clomid and I'm still unsure whether I'm going to or not....

Twiglet2353 · 10/01/2019 19:13

I'm now on my 10th day of spotting (dark brown discharge alongside some dark red blood streaks).
In theory I'm 15dpo or 16dp+OPK. I've done a test and BFN. Usually I spot up until around 9-11dpo and then start full flow AF.

Anyone got any experiences with this?

juneybean · 10/01/2019 19:19

I could be wrong but sounds like a deficiency or something? I had this last year but I cannot remember what Google said...

OrcinusOrca · 10/01/2019 20:20

Hi ladies, can I join you?

Just been given clomid by my consultant. I have PCOS and am also on metformin. I'm nearly 27, DH just turned 30. TTC for over 18 months now. I had a chemical pregnancy early October and nothing since.

I've made the mistake of googling clomid success and am worried the rates seem really low. I'm also worried that I'm quite stressed at work and that might be making things worse Sad

This journey is so hard, sorry to see so many of you with even longer journeys. Fingers crossed for all of us x

gemlou0302 · 12/01/2019 10:19

@OrcinusOrca We all just have to try and be positive and on our bad days which we will all have, just try and support each other back on track. Good luck everyone 😊

AliceAbsolum · 12/01/2019 14:44

@Twiglet2353 Ages ago you asked about a gap between Clomid and IVF. Alas, no such joined up care here, it looks like it'll be march now as every step is incredibly slow. Not even got funding yet. I think they should definitely take that into account in the timing. NICE guidance is 2 years, not 3.5 years.
Sorry to hear about all the spotting. My lining was very thin after Clomid, I had a full period for a few hours with spotting either side. It's a horrible limbo to be in and I hope you get some answers soon.

Y'all need a 2019 thread!

MinAngel · 12/01/2019 17:45

Hi Ladies,

Hope you don't mind me joining you on here as I posted on another thread and had no replies

I've been on clomid since april 2018. Fell pregnant after 2 cycles in June and miscarried in August.

Started it again in October 2018 and fell pregnant in November 2018...unfortunately I've miscarried again :(

I've read that clomid can thin the lining of the uterus which can result in mc. I'm really reluctant to take it again but did fall pg with it. Anyone had any similar experience...I feel like my gynaecologist will tell me I'm being silly!
I'm turning to acupuncture as soon as this mc is over. Have a scan on Tuesday to have it confirmed :( although I know it's happened as no heartbeat at last scan and now bleeding with clots.

Twiglet2353 · 12/01/2019 18:25

@AliceAbsolum thanks for the update. I have an appointment on Wednesday at the ivf unit to discuss next options. Have decided against clomid 150mg. The spotting just got ridiculous this past cycle so if ivf is the next step then hopefully the ball can get rolling.

Keep me updated x

gemlou0302 · 12/01/2019 20:51

@MinAngel
Sorry to hear that you have had another MC, after you have had 2 can they not investigste to see if it is the clomid or maybe something different. It’s so hard as knowing that the clomid works if great but not giving the final result you want. I tried ancupuncture and it didn’t work for me however it did for my friend so fingers crossed 🤞 Hope you feel better soon and good luck xx

Re. Ovulation on Clomid

I'm on day 15 (on cycle 1 I ovulsted on day14 although my cycle was cancelled as I had 4 follicles) and on cycle 2 (with 1 follicle) with no positive ov test yet.. Just wondering if anyone's ovulation days changed on clomid or varied? Just nervous...
