Welcome clomiphene citrate people!

Come and chat about all things Clomid.

I'm Alice
33 years old
TTC#1
Cycle 31

Had all the tests and finally got the go-ahead today (a prescription and letter in the post!) So bit of a surprise. Will be starting on CD2 in about 4 days time hopefully.

Scared, excited, nervous.

I guess it's either track ovulation through temping, etc or a fertility monitor, or have sex every other day from CD 9ish?

OP posts:
Mummylaura1988 · 22/09/2018 21:51

I started tracking my temp this morning however do you do it while your still lay in bed? I tried to input my temp in my app etc but it wouldn't accept it until after a certain temp. I managed to pin point ovulation last month and we had sex the daya leading up to it and after but still didn't work so I really am at a loss. I didn't have any problems conceiving my daughter 6 years ago although she wasn't planned although I had brain surgery 2 years ago and I think that is where all my problems started with secondary infertility x

KT2828 · 23/09/2018 14:31

Hi all, this is my first post ! I'm 34 and currently on my first round of clomid. I am on day 18 at the moment. Not sure if I have ovulated. Had a scan day 8 after taking clomid day 2-6 and follicle was only around 8 mm. I have PCOS and a underactive thyroid which doesn't help. Couple of questions....has Any one had success with both conditions together and how long have people been advised to wait before completing a preg test after having taken clomid xx

AliceScarlett · 23/09/2018 15:37

I gave up taking my temp as I always go to the loo about 6am then go back to sleep and forget.
Secondary infertility is confusing...how long have been trying for?

@KT2828 welcome! We have had one BFP on this thread and that lady had PCOS. Not sure about thyroid sorry.
In terms of testing the leaflet I was given said after cycle day 35. I've always had my period before then though.

I'm just coming up to the fertile period again. Not that fussed this month tbh, I stated Clomid in May, it's nearly been 37 cycles. I'm bored of it now. Bring on the IVF.

Oh @AliceScarlett it's so horrible isn't it. It's hard to keep up hope, and then when you do and AF arrives it's like a massive smack in the face.

I had my smear the other day and it means I'm having spotting during sex or checking CM (sensitive cervix, erosion and polyps etc). Does blood kill sperm the same way spermicide would? In theory in my fertile week and will be so pissed if it makes it even more difficult to conceive!

KT2828 · 23/09/2018 18:52

Thanks @AliceScarlett that's helpful. Been Ttc for 3 yrs, perhaps should have startre clomid sooner. Sounds like you have had a hard time with things. Wishing you a BFP soon.
@Twiglet2353 not quite sure....fingers crossed it doesn't affect your chances. I had spotting around day 12-14...Has any one had this with the clomid !? X

Mummylaura1988 · 23/09/2018 21:23

@AliceScarlett oo I get up around that time a wee and like u go straight back to sleep so I've been tempting when I wake up again before I get out of bed. I guess that wouldn't give an accurate reading would it? We have been trying for about 2 years and it's only been recently that my gyno decided to go through another hospital that specialises in infertility. I had to push for the clomid as my consultant wasn't going to give it me until next month but because I found out about clomid on this site that he let me have it a couple of months earlier..not that it's made me have a BFP yet.
Have you heard of many people getting BFP on clomid? We BD every day during my fertile window last month and even on the day that I got my LH surge detected on my clearblue ovulation test and it still didn't happen..maybe this month i will just do it every other day and try not to think about it to much and maybe that will help..? What do you think? Xx

DawnK77 · 23/09/2018 22:00

Hi all, thanks for all the info on this thread, i think i have a read every day! In my 1st month of clomid, it's been a loooong month. Blood tests back from hospital show it has worked, however.. I am allergic! My body is just one giant painful red raw rash! So currently not allowed to take it again until next app ... bit disheartening. But if I've worked it out I think I need to test next weekend, trying not to get hopes up!! Hope everyone's okay xxx

tigercub50 · 23/09/2018 22:04

Took Clomid quite a few years ago now & I have never felt so sick in my life! Just awful. I hate being sick but I used to wish I could be just to ease the unrelenting nausea. And it didn’t make any bloody difference!

AliceScarlett · 24/09/2018 09:18

@mummyLaura I think the rates of BFP on each cycle are similar (if not less than 'normal' couples), if the problem is only lack of ovulation then it's what 30% chance per cycle? I've been diagnosed as unexplained so who knows what else is going on to reduce that number. For all I know the sperm doesn't get through the cervix and if it does the lining might not be thick enough. The possibilities for things to go wrong are endless....but yes I have had similar thoughts: why isn't it happening? I think that's why 6 months of Clomid is often given in order to give enough chances.

@Dawn Oh no :( what a pain to be allergic! Will they try gonal f or Tamoxifam or something?

OP posts:
DawnK77 · 24/09/2018 09:23

Good morning Alice! I'm not sure, I've not heard of either of them options, but it's nice to hear there are different options, thank you! I've one day left of steroids and the rash isn't really any better, going abroad in a week.... going to look fabulous is my bikinis! Then when I'm back have a catch up appointment with consultant so will see what he decides to do. Fingers crossed something, a delightful nurse the other day actually said your options are deal with it or no children. (Doctor the next day was much nicer)
How are you today? Xx

Twiglet2353 · 25/09/2018 14:18

Out of interest has anyone paid privately for scans to monitor during their cycles?

GettingImpatientNow · 26/09/2018 16:58

Hi Twiglet, yes I did (had no choice with my clinic). Was around £570 per cycle for ultrasounds and bloods as many needed until showed you were ready to ovulate(was 3 visits for me).

AliceScarlett · 26/09/2018 17:58

I tried but they convinced me I didn't need a referral.

I have ewcm for the first time in Clomid and like 4th time ever. Best get too it!

Newbie here.... When it says store chlomid in a cool dark place what's an ideal location? Also does chlomid cause an ubrupt end to your cycle once you start taking it? When it says it can cause spotting is this something I should expect or does it not happen often?

KT2828 · 28/09/2018 21:25

Welcome @mrsbroodymamma I am on my first cycle and did have some spotting around day 12-14! Going to ask my clinic when I next go as not sure if this is normal or not! My cycle was much shorter than normal and did seem to stop as soon I started taking the clomid. I just keep mine in a cupboard x

AliceScarlett · 29/09/2018 10:45

@mrsbroodymama Cool dry place just means not in direct sunlight/damp ect. I kept mine on a shelf behind the bed. Was fine. Good luck with your first cycle. I didn't notice Clomid ended my cycle. It isn't known for causing spotting.

How are we all doing?
I'm in yet another 2ww, pretty chilled this month, have very little hope, which is actually quite nice.

I've got a lot of blood tests and swabs to sort out for IVF. Getting real now!

OP posts:
GettingImpatientNow · 29/09/2018 11:07

My periods have been gradually getting shorter on clomid, think that's normal.

I started brown spotting yesterday so I think that's me done now. Just 9 day dpo - i can't help but think that's not right but no doctor seems to listen when I talk about short luteal phase. So, will be calling clinic on Monday to start the ball rolling with IVF!

Good luck to everyone, hope there is some more success in this group, it has been depressingly lacking. X

Twiglet2353 · 29/09/2018 14:09

I got my positive OPK yesterday on CD19. Just like pre-clomid. Absolutely no ovulation type pains today and OPKs now negative. Have zero hope for this month. Plus hubby is feeling the pressure. I feel like infertility is destroying our sex life. Bleh!
Hope everyone else isn't feeling as mopey as I am- I'll put my violin away 😂

AliceScarlett · 29/09/2018 14:21

@gettingimpatientnow I hear you with luteal phase defects, it's a blind spot. Like there is no specific test and no treatment on the NHS, so they just ignore it? Going straight to IVF without exploring other options is a huge criticism of fertility treatment imo (and other health professionals I've read).
When do you think you will start IVF?

@twiglet Did you DTD a bit over the last few days? DH and I have resorted the old pot and syringe this cycle, both had heavy colds, so, needs must Hmm

OP posts:
Twiglet2353 · 29/09/2018 14:57

@AliceScarlett two days ago and two days before that? And that was a struggle to be honest. It's getting me down. I don't want it to be like this 😞

AliceScarlett · 29/09/2018 15:18

It's really hard isn't it. I've not know frustration like it. It would be great to have sex every other day through the cycle, but who actually manages that? Two days ago was good timing, swimmers stay alive for ages right.

OP posts:
Twiglet2353 · 29/09/2018 15:42

@AliceScarlett if there's an abundance of fertile CM maybe. TMI post but I've never wiped and seen any EWCM? In fact any day that I wipe and I'm not bleeding is seen as a little victory 😕

AliceScarlett · 29/09/2018 17:16

I don't know, I thought if they made it to the fallopian tubes they could hang out for days. I got into the habit of uh, manually checking fluid as a way to try to predict ovulation. Be surprised what's up there when you have a root around Grin ShockGrin

OP posts:
GettingImpatientNow · 29/09/2018 17:38

Yeah, worth doing a proper poke around if you're using CM as an indicator.

I also hate what this has done to sex for us....this month actually wasn't that bad, but it's become just routine sex for a week then relief we don't have to do it again for a while. How crap is that.

I don't know how long it takes to get going with IVF but I'm hoping it might be possible for cycle after this one (so starting in a month's time). Will still take clomid for this cycle while I'm waiting but not holding out any hope.
