BFP after IVF: any other nervous ladies in need of a handhold?

I've had my BFP after our first FET and in a bit of a state analysing symptoms/lack of symptoms. Had two losses prior to starting IVF so really can't get my head round what might be normal or not. Clinic will scan me at six weeks, but that is two very long weeks away! Anyone else in a similar position? xxx

@southernbella74 I wouldn’t worry about vasa previa too much. The incidence is one in two to three thousand normally, perhaps ten times that in an IVF pregnancy. So the chances are you don’t have it. But I think it’s important to ask at the scan to get it checked just in case because the outcome is catastrophic if not found, and apparently it’s not checked routinely as the average sonographer isn’t aware of the link to IVF.
I‘ve registered at a specialist hospital now so am feeling much better about the whole thing, and on Friday I’m seeing a professor who specialises in this. The clinic where I was registered didn’t want to refer me for at least another 4 weeks so I tried showing up at the specialist hospital and registering and luckily it worked.
Congratulations on the scan, Yorkshire! I would guess that if the second embryo didn’t implant or didn’t grow very much there wouldn’t be very much to see as it’s so tiny, and it‘s so small that it’s not a problem that it’s hanging around in the uterus until it disintegrates.

Barcelo18 · 27/06/2018 06:14

@yorkshirelass27 I too had two embryos implanted but my scans have shown I’m carrying just the one. However I had had spotting up until my first scan at 8 weeks. There is a thing called disappearing twin syndrome where the embryo is absorbed into your uterus or placenta. Congratulations on your first scan and seeing that little heartbeat 💗

Janefx40 · 27/06/2018 08:05

@Yorkshirelass27 congrats!!! I'm not sure what happens with the others I'm afraid but I'm pleased you had a good scan x

Yorkshirelass27 · 27/06/2018 20:54

Thanks for the reassurance and well wishes Dame, Barcelo and Janefx. I've been getting my knickers in a twist a bit about it. I'm still getting a lot of sharp twisting pains low down and fretted the other embie might be lodged in a tube or something. Everything looked fine on the scan so I just need to relax. Would be interesting to find out what happened to the other.
Hope you are all managing in this heat! x

DameSylvieKrin · 28/06/2018 13:19

I’m sure you don’t have to fret about the other one, Yorkshire, I would guess that knowing there were two, they kept an eye out for the other in the fallopian tube during your viability scan.
I had pain similar to your description on one side and thought it was probably the ovarian cyst — the one that grows to provide the pregnancy hormones until the placenta takes over. Otherwise, the stretching pains can feel quite alarming and go on forever!

Janefx40 · 28/06/2018 21:03

Hi Ladies,

Just got my Harmony results and am all clear!! So relieved. We also found out what we are having...not sure I'm ready to share yet.

The last week has been the most anxious time I can remember.

A bit nervous about our 12 weeks scan as have had more headaches and cramps but if we pass that ok I will force myself to relax!!

Xxx

SouthernBella74 · 28/06/2018 21:06

Thanks @DameSylvieKrin. I’ll do my best not to obsess too much over a possible Vasa Previa diagnosis. 😬 But will definitely request a check for it at my 20w scan. Glad to hear that you’re now registered at a specialist hospital.

Right now all of my mental energy is focussed on my morning, afternoon & evening sickness! 😩

Congrats on your scan, @Yorkshirelass27 🎉

physicskate · 29/06/2018 19:28

It's officially otd. Today, I'm pregnant. Tomorrow, who knows? Trying not to get ahead of myself as I've had at least two chemical pregnancies... happy, but really trying not to get excited.

Blondienut · 29/06/2018 20:17

Hello all, am very happy to join this thread. Got my bfp 6dp5dt and line has continued to get darker. My HCG on my OTD (14dp5dt) was 1228! Have taken about ten tests in last week as so enjoying seeing the BFPs after nearly 2 years of ttc. I am still in shock and just trying to be as positive as possible. Scan booked for two weeks when I'll be 7 weeks so hopefully all will be well. I guess we all just have to hope and pray all continues as is!

Si1ver · 29/06/2018 23:17

Congratulations @physicskate and @Blondienut!

HelloMist · 30/06/2018 08:58

Hi Smile, popping my head in as got a BFP today 11dp5dt (OTD). I've got 1 DC aged 3 from IVF but this is my 4th cycle trying for second, have also had CP and early MC so very aware today doesn't mean a continuing pregnancy. Pleased to join this thread to hopefully find and give some support.

Janefx40 · 30/06/2018 09:34

Congrats @physicskate @Blondienut @HelloMist it's great to get that BFP and I was so happy. Whatever comes next it's the best possible result today and that's all any of us can hope for

Xxx

PonyPals · 01/07/2018 15:01

Congratulations to all the new girls on your BFPs!
It's great to see everyone going so well. So much is happening! Grin

SouthernBella74 · 03/07/2018 17:04

Welcome and congrats to the new ladies on your BFPs. Such an exciting time!

I went for a scan yesterday and my little nut is growing well. 😊 I’m 11w4 and feel I’m turning the corner with my all day nausea...but taking it day by day.

I hope everyone is enjoying the heat wave & staying hydrated! 😎

physicskate · 04/07/2018 11:02

So very confused about how this works - I just had a 5 minute phone appointment with the gp about my meds during pregnancy... she said fertility clinic will discharge me to antenatal clinic?? So does that mean I don't get referred to midwives via my gp surgery?? First pregnancy to last this long (4+5) so no idea anyway!!!

SouthernBella74 · 04/07/2018 17:06

Hi @physicskate, I think it depends on your GP. My clinic discharged me at 8w3d to my GP surgery. I self-referred to one of the local maternity units as they allowed self-referrals. I called and checked this with my GP surgery and they were fine with it. I gave them a copy of the letter from my clinic so they had it for my files.

Glad to hear your pregnancy is progressing!

1Wanda1 · 04/07/2018 18:06

Hi everyone. Congrats to the new ladies. Physicskate I am 9w now. My clinic booked me in for a viability scan at 7.5w and discharged me at that scan. Before that, at 6w, I had called my GP surgery to ask what I needed to do to arrange booking in appt with midwife. They told me, and I had the booking in appt at 8weeks. At that appt they give you your maternity notes and the timetable for all future appointments.

Si1ver · 04/07/2018 18:32

I called the midwife myself and they booked me in. I haven't spoken to my GP at all (mainly because she's a massive twat who was quite mean to me during my last miscarriage). My midwife however is lovely and agrees that my GP is a twat.

I'm 10+3 and had an early scan today as I'm having to travel with work next week and will need to tell my boss I'm pregnant before I go. The picture wasn't terribly clear, but the baby was wriggling away and the heartbeat was strong 😍

wombats · 04/07/2018 21:02

@Physicskate, congrats! I was discharged from the fertiity clinic after I'd had heartbeat confirmed on scan. Then booked into GP for antenatal referral from there.

Hi. Is anyone still using this thread? 😊
Had my BFP 2 days ago, and was feeling pretty calm. I was getting symptoms and also didn’t really believe it! This morning I’ve woken up feeling so nervous!
I’m due back at work tomorrow, after being off for 2 weeks. Also taking my last chrinone gel today. And don’t have much in symptoms just now. Boobs are a little sore, and I don’t feel like my period is coming. Just a heavy feeling I suppose.

I’m prob being daft. It’s normal for symptoms to come and go isn’t it? And did everyone carry on as normal after?

Hope you’re all doing ok! Xx

Beherenow32 · 08/07/2018 08:18

I’m only 4+2 weeks btw 🙊

1Wanda1 · 09/07/2018 16:44

Hi Beherenow. This thread has got quieter but I think we all check in still. Congrats on your BFP. It is so worrying in the early days and weeks and the time seems to go so slowly. I am 10 weeks now and feel it's been an age since I got my BFP! I had a little bleed at 5+5 and freaked out - but it was all fine and saw heartbeat on scans at 6 and 7weeks. I am having the Harmony rest this week, which is preceded by another scan, so hoping everything is still fine. I feel like it is.

It's normal for symptoms to come and go and at under 6 weeks I hardly had any symptoms anyway. Nausea kicked in around 6 weeks and got steadily worse. It has eased a bit just recently.

I'd say try to remember there's no reason to worry unless something material changes. If you can, you could book a viability scan for 6 weeks to reassure yourself.

Beherenow32 · 09/07/2018 16:57

@1Wanda1 thank you so much for your message! I ended up taking this week off work too. Just feeling quite anxious, but I think with some time, I will be ok.
I’m trying to stay calm about the symptoms as they come and go. Can feel lots of pulling and stretching going on.

Did you carry on as normal? And keep active?

I have a scan at 7 weeks. So, will count down the days until then! I am so happy that your scans went well.

Thanks again for the reassurance! Xx

1Wanda1 · 09/07/2018 20:26

I carried on as normal - work etc - except that I haven't gone back to my exercise class yet. I have taken advice from the doctor, who says that it's fine to do any exercise I was already used to doing, so I'm going to go back to the class soon. I think I will feel better with a bit of exercise.

There is a good book called Expecting Better by Emily Oster, which addresses many "issues" of pregnancy such as alcohol consumption, etc, by reference to actual scientific evidence rather than "standard advice". I've found this helpful in addressing anxieties.

Janefx40 · 10/07/2018 08:30

@Beherenow32 hello! Welcome to this thread. I haven't really done any exercise which is pretty bad but I have been so exhausted that walking to the top of the stairs is a struggle - however I've just found out I have a urine infection - so hopefully that will sort that out.

It is such an anxious time. Glad you have time off work as I think on balance that is probably easier.
