Hi everyone hope alls well!

Thursday is going to be a big day next week-I've got my first midwife appointment in the afternoon and then an early scan in the evening. Eek! Will be almost 7 weeks by then so hoping to see a heartbeat Smile

Alicejj8x · 16/02/2018 13:19

@ConfusionIsNothingNew yay let us know how it goes. I've got mine on Monday but will be to early to see anything :) good luck for next week

Alicejj8x · 16/02/2018 13:21

@PickettBowtruckles any concerns I would defo speak to your doctors but honestly Hun there is so so much now that can be done for infertility so don't worry yourself with not ever going to be pregnant I know how you feel as I felt that too but sometimes and I am proof of this all we need is abit of help from some tablets to kick start us off :)

CantThink1 · 18/02/2018 18:50

I have had an internal scan recently, which confirmed PCOS. My partner came with me but stayed in the waiting room while I went through. I had to drink lots of water before so they could try a normal ultrasound and then I emptied my bladder and went back for the internal. It did not hurt whatsoever. The lady doing it made me feel relaxed, I had paper towel covering me and she went underneath the paper towel. There was another lady behind a curtain that was typing the numbers that were being called out to her. I was told that my ovaries look pollycystic & that she would send a report to the DR. The next appt at the doctor Metformin was prescribed. I have been on Metformin scince October and told to try it for 6months then to return if no luck. On month 4, have had one period whilst on Metformin and been taken Ovulation tests most days and always getting negative results. Thinking about returning to the doc sooner and asking for clomid.

Alicejj8x · 18/02/2018 19:13

@CantThink1
Thanks for sharing your story and hope your feeling ok about everything. I was put on metformin in December Last year and I fell pregnant on it straight away I have my first scan tmo so if you can try and keep going on it. I was only told to be on it for 3 months then clomid would be prescribed to me after 3 months
How much metformin are you taking?

CantThink1 · 18/02/2018 19:31

Allicejj8x I am on 500mg of Metformin three times a day scince October 2017. Have had a period on it 4 months after the last one which is “normal” for me. And haven’t had one scince and that was 2 months ago. So it doesn’t seem to be doing anything for me...

Alicejj8x · 18/02/2018 19:50

@CantThink1 oh wow really that's the same dose as me to

Yeh I would go back to the doctors and just explain and say it's not working and you need clomid which they should give you too

PickettBowtruckles · 18/02/2018 20:28

Do you have to be trying for a year before metformin is prescribed? I have my first blood test in the morning and internal scan at the weekend but been told it’ll be a year from the scan before they’ll intervene?!

intrigued2018 · 18/02/2018 21:53

@PickettBowtruckles
It depends on the nhs trust... some say 1year, mine said 2years!!! Shock We ended up paying to go private this week after trying for 6months - gynae appointment cost £155, on progesterone tablets this week so hopefully have a bleed then onto Clomid from next week. With a few checks but they are doing those FOC - and will have cost £179 (appt and tablets). For us it seems worth it as I was only having a period every 4months and I was finding the lack of help stressful which didn’t help either! X

PickettBowtruckles · 18/02/2018 22:00

@intrigued2018 so has it cost you £179 total for the appts and tablets? If so that’s very reasonable! I wouldn’t even know where to start looking in terms of private if honest.

Alicejj8x · 19/02/2018 06:11

It all depends on nhs. Sometimes you have to milk it a s day you've been trying for longer to actually get anywhere.

MermaidTail7 · 19/02/2018 07:09

Congratulations Alicejj8x... And SLady, it looks like my 150mg dose of clomid was the magic dose too.. I got my BFP on Friday!! DP and have spent most of the weekend in a mild state of disbelief!!

@MermaidTail7 yay!!!!!! Congratulations wohoooo I'm
So so happy for you!i

I have my first early scan today so hopefully everything goes okay!!

Congrats again xxxx

MermaidTail7 · 19/02/2018 07:32

Thank you Alicejj8x...today is phoning all my doctors (GP, Fertility Clinic and PCOS clinic) to find out what happens next!

intrigued2018 · 19/02/2018 07:40

@PickettBowtruckles

Yep it was £179 for the appt, a weeks progesterone tablets and 3months Clomid tablets. I didn’t really know where to start either, the local fertility hospital also have a gynaecology department so booked an appt there. Not sure if it will be the same with every gynae so probably worth doing your research, also call around as you get a feel for whether they care or you are another number. the gynae I saw when I was diagnosed was a private consultant but paid for by the nhs and he was useless! X

intrigued2018 · 19/02/2018 07:42

@MermaidTail7 - massive congratulations! Amazing news.

@Alicejj8x - I hope all goes well today X

MermaidTail7 · 19/02/2018 07:58

Thank you Intrigued2018
.. Fingers crossed this is a super sticky little bean!!

Alicejj8x · 19/02/2018 11:12

Thanks everyone.

So I have had a scan they think I'm about 4 weeks!

They can't see a sac as of yet but have told me it's in the right place for a pregnancy

Should I be worried or is this normal

MermaidTail7 · 19/02/2018 11:45

Looking at what I have read so far Alicejj8x I think that's pretty normal.. But it might be worth asking the ladies on the pregnancy board for thier experiences too?

PickettBowtruckles · 19/02/2018 12:02

@intrigued2018 okay that’s not as bad as I thought price wise, will definitely call around if I do get a diagnosis of PCOS.

I had my first blood test today, I’ve only ever had 1 in my life before and was a bit worried about it but apart from the slightly tender arm I still have it wasn’t as bad as I thought :)

ConfusionIsNothingNew · 19/02/2018 12:55

Congratulations Mermaid that's amazing news, it's been a lucky thread so far!

I'm sure that 4 weeks is really early to see anything on a scan yet Alice so I wouldn't worry too much-did they give you another date to come back?

MermaidTail7 · 19/02/2018 13:15

Thank you ConfusionIsNothingNew...it has been a lucky thread indeed, so I am keeping my fingers crossed for all the other PCOS ladies on here xxxx

Mytimenow · 19/02/2018 15:54

A big wave to all you lovely ladies, I wish this site would have been around 25 year's ago when I was diagnosed with PCOS, it would have been such a comfort.
I was on clomid and metformin for over 5 years and told I'd never conceive naturally, sadly I did have 2 MC's on clomid my consultant said last option would be to drill my ovaries and go home and wait for my appointment. Don't know how it happened but you guessed it by my next appointment I was pregnant, completely natural, fast forward and my DS was 20 on Saturday! I struggled to conceive again and was put back on medication with no success so decided we'd just be grateful for what we had and 5 year's later Ds2 was conceived, completely natural. We were a bit hap hazard with contraception after that and 3 year's later aged 38 Ds 3 came along!
I still suffer with the symptoms of PCOS but maybe someone may have a little hope after reading this. Good luck on your journey.

Alicejj8x · 19/02/2018 16:09

@ConfusionIsNothingNew I hope it's just where I'm super early :/

Yes next Wednesday i go back to have another scan xx

Animagus · 19/02/2018 16:14

Hi everyone congrats to those with good news Grin

I went to see the gp about my scan results and they said I do have PCOS so at least we have an explanation.

I have been referred to gynaecology to see what’s available for me but since my scan my period came back which is typical as that’s what started the worrying in the first place! I obviously still don’t know if it will be regular or not as it’s the first proper period since coming off the pill 5 months ago. Fingers crossed that it’s a good sign and my body is starting to sort itself out.
