Congrats Alice hope it all goes okay.

I have my ultrasound scan tomorrow, feeling really nervous about what’s going to happen. I’ve read lots of things about people getting a PCOS diagnosis and then having to wait for a year to see if you can conceive naturally before they try things to help not sure if that’s true or not.

Just feeling a bit down about it all really which I know is silly!!

Alicejj8x · 12/02/2018 15:45

@Animagus thank you

Let me know how it all goes!! Honestly it depends on each person I've just got pregnant and I've been on metformin since December 2017!! It's mental it could be the tablet or just plain luck. But either way I promise you if your diagnosed with pcos they will give you something you have to be firm and explain your not walking away with nothing. Tbh I think they will put you on tablets tmo if you do have it xxx

Alicejj8x · 12/02/2018 15:46

@ConfusionIsNothingNew @Sunny1984 @SLady how are your pregnancies going? Any scans

I had the same result as you @ConfusionIsNothingNew with the 1/2 weeks on the digi test have you had any early scans or anything?

Hope everyone is okay x

MermaidTail7 · 12/02/2018 15:47

Hi Animagus
Try not to worry, I'm a bit further down the same route as you and its been tough, but not scary. .. We have been TTC for 16 months, and had been TTC for about 8months but had really irregular (disappearing) periods, so went to the docs, who started on all the PCOS bloods and scans. I was diagnosed with PCOS after bloods, an internal and external scan, and a HyCoSy. The Scans showed I had 12+ follicles in each ovary (a PCOS Symptom) and the HyCoSy confirmed I had no tube blockages. All my standard bloods came back completely normal, and it wasn't until I paid for a blood test to check my AMH levels that they came back saying I had high AMH levels and my hormone levels were right at the top of normals, which was when the formal PCOS diagnosis was confirmed.

I was given metformin to help with the PCOS, and was also started on clomid as by the time I'd had all the tests and results we had been TTC for 12 Months. My DP also had a sperm test at the same time which came back normal.
The only thing I would say is
that they are unlikely you tell you anything while having the scan if this is your first scan for PCOS, and you are probably going to have to wait to get the results from your GP, so make sure you have a list of questions written down to ask your GP before you go!!

After two rounds of clomid that did absolutely nothing, and more internal scans than I care to remember, I've finally found a dose of clomid that has made me ovulate, and blood tests have confirmed that. I am currently waiting to see if AF turns up in the next week or so. Good luck xx

intrigued2018 · 12/02/2018 16:11

@Animagus,
Good luck tomorrow, after my initial diagnosis I felt very sad but soon came to terms with it as realise it’s not the worst thing that could happen and there is a tonne of help out there. With the nhs you do have to wait a little while, I’ve ended up paying to see a private gynaecologist that was recommended. Someone else also recommended reflexology so I may give that a go also. Xx

ConfusionIsNothingNew · 12/02/2018 16:58

Animagus don't feel too downhearted, I know that's hard at the moment but there's lots of treatments for PCOS and they come with good success rates so stay positive.

Alice, I haven't had an early scan yet, I'm only 5+3 so going to hold out until at least 7 weeks as there's a better chance of seeing a heartbeat then!

Alicejj8x · 12/02/2018 17:15

@Animagus are you with the fertility clinic yet?..

My fertility clinic was so so fast once I got the appointment they did a scan for the week after my first appointment then the Same day as my scan I went to have a chat with the nurses in the fertility clinic after and then she prescribed me metformin so just depends what route they go down I guess :)

Congrats and yes that's a good idea.. I have my first scan ( fertility clinic booked me in) for next Monday I am very worried as it's super early but they said they early scan everyone so I guess we're see :/.. Ahh congrats thou :) did you work your dates out through your last AF? OrV
I am just Confused as to how far I actually am

Alicejj8x · 12/02/2018 17:15

@ConfusionIsNothingNew sorry I meant to tag you in my last bit lol

Animagus · 12/02/2018 17:38

Thanks all for the kind words, I’m trying to stay positive!

It is the first scan I will have but I have a gp appointment that was booked anyway for a couple of days after so I should get the result pretty soon after, bloods showed nothing out of the ordinary. I know we are just at the beginning or our journey and I know I shouldn’t (but we all do!!) compare to other people and how easy it was for them.

In a way I suppose it will be a good thing if it is because then we have a reason and can potentially get past it rather than not knowing what’s going on!

Alicejj8x · 12/02/2018 18:05

@Animagus exactly if you do have it I promise you it's not the end of the world even thou it does feel like it at the time have a little time
To read up on it and then your find out it's not as bad as you think

That's good you've got an appointment a few days later :)

My bloods were the exact same the only signs of pcos I had were irregular periods and then the cysts in the scans I had everything is perfectly fine my weight is normal my skin and excess hair is normal too so i guess sometimes you don't need all the signs to have pcos.

I think whatever the outcome tmo will put your mind at rest.. Pcos atleast you know the reason & get treatment if not then they can still give you clomid to help :) x

ConfusionIsNothingNew · 12/02/2018 19:52

My consultant did say that if I got pregnant on Clomid to ring and he'd get me in for a scan so maybe I'll ring tomorrow and see what they say. The scan will probably rough date you anyway so you should no more then!

I know when I ovulated more or less as I had the usual pains and a blazing positive opk when I tested. So I'm dating it that way, but happy to be corrected at my scan!

Alicejj8x · 12/02/2018 19:57

@ConfusionIsNothingNew yeh I would call as they might want you to be booked for an early scan like they said to me.

Ahh yeh that's good then :)

Let's hope everything is all okay for us both

Animagus · 13/02/2018 12:51

I had my scan, she couldn’t say too much but she did say that they do look polycystic but not massively so, whatever that means! Also said I have quite small ovaries which I didn’t know could be an issue, not sure what that means yet.

Will have to wait until I see the GP in a couple of days for a proper chat about the results.

Alicejj8x · 13/02/2018 15:08

@Animagus oh so do you feel abit confused by the scan results.
Atleast you've had the scan and it's looking like Pcos so if so then atleast there's medicine you can get but I just hope your okay and not feeling to confused about it all

When is your GP appointment? Xx

Animagus · 14/02/2018 13:14

I am feeling a little confused but when I get more answers I’ll feel better, my gp appointment is tomorrow so not much longer to wait.

The strangest bit is that last night I think my period came back! I thought it could have been from the scan but it hasn’t stopped and is getting heavier so think it’s period not just from the scan. Hubby is excited as he thinks that means it’s all go but I have said let’s not excited just yet!

Alicejj8x · 14/02/2018 13:56

@Animagus that's so good that it's tmo so not much longer to wait to find out what exactly is going on :)

Ahh they get carried away don't they bless them! That's strange thou maybe from the internal scan?

I had an early preg scan yday evening and they told me that only my right ovary is polycystic and my left is completely normal? I am very confused as when I went for my first scan for pcos they said both but the left wasn't as polysystic as the right so when I go for my fertility appointment Monday to have an early preg scan with them I will ask what's going on lol! Xx

PickettBowtruckles · 14/02/2018 15:15

Hiya :) just been directed here from a thread I made on conception.

Been to my GP this morning who is querying PCOS and sent me for several blood tests and an internal scan next weekend. I’m a bit nervous and was wondering if anyone else has had the internal scan and can tell me what to expect?

Alicejj8x · 14/02/2018 15:36

@PickettBowtruckles
The internal scan is honestly nothing to worry about I promise :)
It doesn't hurt one bit and is over very quickly. They will probably get you to go to the toilet to empty your bladder as they did that with me in every one of my internal scans.

They will then look at your ovaries,, when I went for my internal scan for Pcos I could tell straight away as your see a oval shape with some circles ( blobs) inside and that's pcos usually anyway :) hope this helped but it's nothing to be nervous about I promise. The ladies are lovely and will give you a towel/ big piece of tissue to cover you up

intrigued2018 · 14/02/2018 16:28

@PickettBowtruckles
As Alice says it sounds a lot worse than it is - the people that do the internal scans are so friendly and remember they do it all the time so for them it is just part of their day to day life.

I thought I would just update the group, after my previous gynae appointment and the consultant being rubbish saying there was nothing they could do. I ended up just forgetting about everything and last week finally decided to do something about it, just got back from a private gynae appointment and he has put me on Clomid - 7 days of progesterone tablets then onto Clomid once I have a bleed! I feel so happy that someone listened and I have help... fingers crossed for the journey ahead! I cannot wait. Thank you to all you girls, your support and help - this tread has helped massively xxx

PickettBowtruckles · 14/02/2018 17:39

Thanks for the reassurance ladies! It’s very appreciated.

Is it ‘normal’ to take someone with you? I’ve got a Saturday appointment so my husband is around and has offered to come with me but not sure if that’s more weird?!

Alicejj8x · 14/02/2018 17:58

@intrigued2018 yay I'm so happy for you fingers crossed this is you on your way to what you want :) xx

@PickettBowtruckles yes take him
Along my other half has been to so many of them with me just prepare him
For what an internal scan is then he won't be to shocked when you start taking your trousers off in front of everyone lol but yes take him along it's good for them to understand what's happening to xx

MermaidTail7 · 14/02/2018 18:31

@picketbowtruckles..My DP am along to the HyCoSy, it was a really eye opener for him in terms of everything women have to go through when having infertility treatments, and it made him much more accepting about doing the sperm test which he had previously been a bit reluctant about...

PickettBowtruckles · 14/02/2018 20:05

Thanks for the advice! I’ve prepped him as much as I can on what it is and he’s happy to come along, hopefully he won’t be too freaked out...Grin

Last question I promise! We’re meant to be going out in the day with his family after, my appointment is at 10am and we’re due to meet them at 12. They don’t know about it and I don’t want to tell them, I’m assuming as you’re all saying it doesn’t hurt that I’ll be fine but just wanted to check that it’s not likely I’ll have awful cramps or something later?

Alicejj8x · 14/02/2018 20:41

No you shouldn't get any cramps at all. Honestly there is no pain with the scan at all and it's not for very long so you shouldn't get any real pain after. I've had about 15 in my time and with each one ive never had cramps or stomach pain. what I would say thou I don't know if this effects you but I have to have the non latex condom that goes over the probe of the internal scan as otherwise it really irritates me after for days I'm super sore so if your sensitive just be sure to ask for non latex one :)
It could be jisy me as we have never used condoms so it could just be my body saying what the hell is this aha xx

PickettBowtruckles · 15/02/2018 19:30

Perfect, thanks for that! Trying not to worry too much about it but I think I’m relatively anxious as a person anyway and am def building it up in my head to basically be horrendous and tell me there’s no way I’ll get pregnant. The rational side of me knows that’s unlikely but the crazy is definitely rearing it’s head!
