4 high quality embryos at day 3 - what should I expect at day 5?

Mid way through our first cycle of IVF. They retrieved 6 eggs and 4 fertilised. The embryologist called me on day 3 and said all 4 embryos were high quality (at least 10 cells and minimal fragmentation) and so they could keep them until day 5 or 6. I am due an update tomorrow am and probably ET tomorrow afternoon or Friday (day 5 or 6) and just trying to set my expectations for the news tomorrow. How many usually die between day 3 and 5? If we do have at least one left, what are my chances of it sticking? I've gotten so pessimistic that I've sort of ruled out it working. Should I assume it's not doing to work or should I be more hopeful?

Hi all. Arrived home to find a letter from UCLA in the post with the date for my initial appointment (30th November) and 12 week scan booked on 19th December when I will be 12 weeks 2 days. I don't recall having an initial appointment (thought first one was the 12 week scan) but may have forgotten as yonks ago.

Remember, oh dear about those tests not showing yet. Were the blasts good quality? Are you going to do a blood test? Thank you for putting in a good word god St Helier - it helps me feel less depressed at the prospect.

Twickerhun, what are the health complications if you don’t mind me asking? At least the labour sounded really well even if the pregnancy itself might be a bit tricky.

Otters, I see what you mean about waiting from 7 to 12/13 weeks - a long time indeed. An option other than Harmony would be to do a scan at 9 weeks. Are you and DH in agreement re finding out the sex?

Goodluck, that sounds really good about your letters. So which pram have you decided on (coming back to an earlier mention).

I got a call from the midwife today and my appointment is this Sunday already! At 8.30 in the morning Confused I can’t believe they do routine appointments at such times Grin

I also looked at some prams in Harrod’s today. A very helpful assistant explained how things work. To avoid jinxing things I won’t look again for months and months Wink

Blasts were grade 1 excellent - didn’t really know to ask whether they were hatching or whatever as it’s our first try. We have blood test booked for Tuesday morning at GP surgery

otters2017 · 17/11/2017 21:39

remember sorry about bfn.** Still hoping it’s just early days for you. Tuesday is going to be a big day for most of us!

jojo was just thinking I could get a private reassurance scan at 9 or 10w.** We are still divided on finding out the sex. I’m not sure if we need harmony or not.
Glad you’ve got your mw appointment.** Impressed it’s on a sun!

goodluck glad to hear you’ve got your appointment and scan as well

otters2017 · 17/11/2017 21:40

Ps sorry not sure what happened with the bold bold fail

Rememberallball · 17/11/2017 22:00

Thank you, Otters, I’m working with the theory that it’s just too early still and that my bloods on Tuesday are positive!!

Goodluckjonathan76 · 17/11/2017 23:29

Eveningall.

Remember, hope your BFP turns up really soon. I read lots of reports of it happening days after so keep testing.

JoJo, re buggies, I had the Bugaboo Bee before (still in the cellar actually but literally on its last legs) which I loved as very light and easy to get on/off buses and in the car etc so will get another. The price has rocketed though!

Twickers, that is a very short labour! Hopefully the next one will be less stressful.

Guess I will be having a 3rd c-section. Not sure they let you try naturally after 2 previous c-sections.

Realised that I am not really letting myself think beyond the next month or so. Just hope the harmony test checks out ok. I am also worrying about silly things like what if it's a girl. Just not sure what I would do with or how I would relate to a girl after 2 boys.

How is everyone else feeling emotionally?

Also, in terms of scans, I definitely wouldn't be able to last from 7 to 12 weeks with no scan. Finding it hard enough to wait from 7 to 10 weeks for the harmony test.

Thanks Goodluck, I don’t feel worried yet as I’m still early for testing (clinic said 14dpt for urging test) so I’m still -5 days. This morning was another bfn on FRER.

otters2017 · 18/11/2017 12:02

I did a cb digi and it said pregnant 3+ so feeling better. Had a terrible nightmare about an awful messy miscarriage 😱
I have a tmi question - it’s getting really sore down there with the pessaries. Going to use the bottom for a few days to let it recover. Not sure if I can use anything to soothe it. Anyone else has the same problem?

remember hope it’s just wait too early for you. Keeping everything crossed for you.

goodluck how did you find the c-sections? I’m terrified about labour but not thinking about that now.

Goodluckjonathan76 · 18/11/2017 19:55

Otters, I am in terrible state down there. Almost constant thrush and occasional cystitis. The whole area has been a no go for ages. Not much activity with DH which is a shame. The other end isn't an alternative as I am already using it for cyclogest. I read that link that someone posted earlier about the benefits of progesterone past ET. Really not convinced it's entirely necessary. I have also started missing days with the clexane as tummy is so bruised, I can't face the needle. Anyhow, I am 8 weeks today so only 2 more weeks on clexane.

I found the c-sections a walk in the park. Barely any pain, quick recovery, up and walking in a few hours, breast fed both and scar barely visible now. Have to say, I found the whole process of IVF, especially the stimulation injections, harder than having a c-section. With the c-section, that's the only way they're coming out so you have no choice. I honestly think the emotional and physical side of IVF is much harder.

How is everyone else? I am suddenly hit by tiredness. My sons are with their dad tonight so we were supposed to be going for dinner to celebrate our anniversary yesterday but I literally cannot lift my bottom off the couch. I feel like eating a massive pizza, watching a movie and having an early night.

Goodluck, happy anniversary! I’m also overcome by tiredness. Most of the time. Alongside nausea. So sex life isn’t quite the same either despite DH’s new haircut and looking extra ravishing.

Twickerhun, not long till the next scan. How are you feeling about it?

Otters, all these dreams! Re the pessary situation, I seem to be ok. As far as I’m aware eating yoghurt (for probiotics) and a low sugar diet can help with thrush.

Remember, will you carry on testing or just wait for the blood test? I was so anxious I ended up doing 4 of them!

Twickerhun · 18/11/2017 20:57

I’m so far problem free after pessaries. I’m on utrogestan only.

Tonight I can mostly be found eating pizza, watching crap on tv and will get an early night. Rock and roll lifestyle! Happy anniversary Goodluck!

Jojo I’m nervous for Tuesday. I keep thinking my symptoms have disappeared. I’m tired which could be down to the utrogestan but the nausea and vomiting has gone. I hate this waiting.

Rememberallball · 18/11/2017 21:28

I think I’ll keep trying JoJo but only bought 4 FRER online this week and used 2 already so got one for tomorrow and one for Monday - am debating buying any more as I’ve got 9 One Step ic in pen form (in cases like FRER rather than just the strip ic) and probably 50+ of the strip sort. Somewhere I’ve got a twin pack of CB from doing the opk trial last spring but an not sure where I put them when we moved here last December!!

DH is convinced I’ve got stickies as I’m on d4/5 of sore breasts and he swears they’re growing bigger by the day!! I’m so tired and need to pee 10 times a day - and I’m known for having a cast iron bladder and can go all day without peeing!!

Oh well, only 3 more sleeps till I’ll know one way or the other!!

otters2017 · 18/11/2017 22:53

Happy anniversary goodluck I’m also feeling quite tired constantly.

jojo thanks for the tip about yoghurts and low sugar. Will also get some canesten just in case

twicker not long to go till your scan. Really hope it’s good news for you. I can only imagine how nerve wrecking it is. I’m already a bundle of nerves.

remember fingers crossed! Only 3 more sleeps

Rememberallball · 19/11/2017 08:01

Another morning and another bfn on FRER. I’ve started suggesting to DH that, after Christmas, we need to start saving again for another try; he’s so certain we don’t need to and that Tuesday will bring good news I feel bad telling him we could well be unsuccessful this time round.

Twickerhun · 19/11/2017 09:37

Oh remember. I’m sorry you are starting to feel like that. Bfn’s are tough. Do you have any frozen embryos? X

otters2017 · 19/11/2017 10:35

Sorry about the bfn remember 😢

Rememberallball · 19/11/2017 11:44

Hi Twickerhun, no we don’t have any Frosties - they froze 4 and, when they defrosted them for ET, only 3 were useable so they transferred all 2. The clinic do have a sample of DH sperm taken while I was off having ET which is frozen so that, if we go back (either due to cycle failure or for a subsequent sibling) we don’t need to be out there as long before we’re ready for ET and they’ll get the donor over to do EC and create the embryos in advance.

I’m starting the “what if’s” and wondering if this cycle does fail whether the 4 days of freezing the blasts has affected joe good they were

Rememberallball · 19/11/2017 11:44

Thanks Otters, it’s not knowing that’s difficult which is why the 2ww is so draining!!

otters2017 · 19/11/2017 13:38

remember the 2WW is extremely draining and stressful.* I don’t really know much about frozen transfers as had a fresh cycle but I thought that the outcomes were good from frozen blasts too. I know there’s nothing I can say to help.* Big hugs x

Rememberallball · 19/11/2017 14:33

Thank you Otters. I think I just need to shake myself and take a quick slap in the chops!!

Twickerhun · 19/11/2017 16:11

I don’t know about freezing in donor cycles but I’m fresh cycles the results are often good, often these days better than fresh transfers due to the fact your body can be less medicated and so more receptive.

JoJoSM2 · 19/11/2017 18:49

Remember, that’s not looking so great. But it sounds really positive that you have dh’s samples frozen. That will definitely make it less hassle if you need go try again.

Otters, looks like Canesten cream (but not the pills) can be used in pregnancy. At least something!

Goodluck, did you enjoy your anniversary weekend?

Twickerhun, I’m a bit jealous of the nausea and vomiting disappearing Wink

I had my midwife appointment this morning. I think I got it so soon only because my GP seems to have miscalculated my EDD Grin It was a positive experience so that was quite a relief.

Rememberallball · 19/11/2017 21:53

Have spoken to a friend who has been the husband through 10 cycles of ivf (has got a 7 year old daughter and wife waiting for a d&c following mms at 6/7 weeks) he said I am probably producing too little hcg for the FRER to detect yet and just to wait for bloods on Tuesday- not much longer to wait then we’ll know one way or the other!!

Still got painful, fuller breasts and nipples still look like coat pegs (very out of character!!) am also still very tired but it has been a long weekend at work!!
