4 high quality embryos at day 3 - what should I expect at day 5?

Mid way through our first cycle of IVF. They retrieved 6 eggs and 4 fertilised. The embryologist called me on day 3 and said all 4 embryos were high quality (at least 10 cells and minimal fragmentation) and so they could keep them until day 5 or 6. I am due an update tomorrow am and probably ET tomorrow afternoon or Friday (day 5 or 6) and just trying to set my expectations for the news tomorrow. How many usually die between day 3 and 5? If we do have at least one left, what are my chances of it sticking? I've gotten so pessimistic that I've sort of ruled out it working. Should I assume it's not doing to work or should I be more hopeful?

Morning all.

So sorry about the BFNs Remember. You are still in with a chance so keeping everything crossed for you.

Twicker, is the scan tomorrow the reassurance scan to check all is ok? Are you having any tests or too early?

JoJo, are you having the panorama this Friday?

Soooo long to wait until my next scan on 5th December. I have my initial hospital appointment on 30th but nothing else until then.

As for symptoms, my boobs are getting ridiculous. Even DSs have noticed and have started going, big boobies, why are your boobs so big, and grabbing them!! Feel so bad lying to them but really don't think we can tell them yet. For starters, I would hate to ask them to keep it a secret, including from their dad/my ex who I would hate to find out at this stage before we know everything is ok. What is everyone else doing with their existing kids? Are you telling them or waiting until later? I think mine will take a lot of getting used to the idea.

Remember still thinking of you. Sorry for the bfn.

I’ve got the scan tomorrow evening. Feeling really nervous now. We aren’ t having any other tests, just the basic scans. Our friend is the local leading obs consultant and after talking with her about it all we decided not to have the tests. If we have a poorly baby we will keep it, so the only thing the tests would do is help us prepared. My friend says there is a lot of pressure put on you to abort if the tests show problems which we just couldn’t do.

We arent telling my step children until at least 12 weeks, we would hate to tell them and loose the baby. Fortunately they aren’t very observant.

Rememberallball · 20/11/2017 12:22

Thank you ladies. I decided not to use the last FRER this morning so went back to an ic but it was still bfn. Blood test is now less than 24 hours away and we’ve decided that, if it’s good news, we will get a bottle of prosecco at quiz night (quite normal for us before October’s abstinence!!) and I will have a small glass - if it’s not good news, I’ll have the whole lot!! We have also decided we will save up and go out again in the spring/summer for another go and then that’s it!!

Good luck with your scan tomorrow, Twickerhun. We discussed this when trying Abs said we would have extra tests because knowing wouldn’t change our approach to the pregnancy unless it was something like anencephaly where we could prepare for a likely loss during pregnancy.

Goodluck, I feel like I’m carrying a shelf round attached to my chest, have had to change out of a bra the other day as it didn’t fit; DH says I’m looking very busty (which he appreciates) and is sure that’s a good sign!!

otters2017 · 20/11/2017 13:39

Remember sounds like a good plan.* Good luck for the blood test tomorrow. It’s so stressful and emotional but good that you have a good chat with DH and have a plan going forward regardless of the outcome.*

Twicker good luck for your scan tomorrow! Mine is in the morning which means I don’t have to wait all day.* Definitely getting scanxiety. Didn’t sleep well last night. Checked on an ic today as I panicked and it was positive phew.* I’m not sure the worry ever goes away!

Goodluck which scan are you having next ? Is it harmony/panorama or nhs scan? I know it feels like ages away but hopefully it will come round quickly for you.** The last 3 weeks have really dragged!!

Jojo glad the midwife appointment went well.** Good luck for your scan on fri!

JoJoSM2 · 20/11/2017 14:00

Good luck tomorrow, Ladies! I hope it's amazing news all around :)

Goodluckjonathan76 · 20/11/2017 16:36

Good luck tomorrow Remember and Twickers!

JoJO, is your panorama on Friday?

My next scan is the harmony test on 5th December so yonks away.

I phoned the clinic earlier to order more progesterone and asked if the nurse could check with the doctor if I could take aspirin instead of clexane and he said yes so no more horrid injections for me (yay!) I also tried to get them to reduce the progesterone but the nurse was insistent that I should try to keep on with them. She suggested that they do a blood test for check progesterone levels when I come in for the next scan (supposed to be on 4th Dec but will cancel as going elsewhere for Harmony test as so much cheaper). Thing is, it costs £50 for a blood test so for that price I may as well keep on with the progesterone.

So hungry again today - working from home and eaten a load of chocolate and biscuits as well as 2 huge pitta breads with cheese. Going to become a whale at this rate. Must go into the office tomorrow to avoid being the fridge.

JoJoSM2 · 20/11/2017 17:49

Goodluck, aspirin sounds much better than Clexane injections! I’ve also been working from home and snacking a bit. I’m going away with work overnight tomorrow so there will be dinner and boozing in the bar afterwards! I’ll need to use some tricks and excuses.

Yes, my scan + Panorama are on Friday.

Anyway, Ladies, I’m looking forward to the updates tomorrow Wink

Rememberallball · 20/11/2017 18:10

Hi Goodluck, result with getting the Clexane changed to aspirin - what dose are you going to take? I am on 75mg aspirin till 28 weeks and 40mg clexane for another 8 weeks and would so love not to have the injections!!

otters2017 · 20/11/2017 18:19

Goodluck well done on switching the clexane to aspirin. Does your clinic advice progesterone till 12 weeks? I think they are actually worse than the injections! Anyway can’t complain, feel incredible lucky to get to this stage and will do what it takes

1 more sleep ... good luck twicker and remember. Really hope the scan will be ok as would be nice to announce at Christmas. Anyone planning a big announcement/ reveal?

Rememberallball · 20/11/2017 18:32

I’ve got a couple of pics I might put on fb when we’re announcing!!

Twickerhun · 20/11/2017 19:06

I think we probably won’t put out a big announcement. My SIL has been ttc for years without sucess so we need to be really careful not to ruin her Christmas. I can’t wait to tell my friends tho.

Goodluckjonathan76 · 20/11/2017 19:31

What is everyone waiting for before they announce? The results from the harmony/panorama test or the 12 week scan? My harmony test is on 5th December so hoping to have the results back around 12th. Definitely not going to announce it at work until bonuses and pay rises have been confirmed. No way! Not looking forward to telling my mum either. Can't imagine she'll be happy with the news.

OP posts:
Twickerhun · 20/11/2017 19:48

I think we will wait till after 12 weeks, probably tell family for Christmas and friends similarly. I think I’ll hold off telling Work until January. One of my relatives already knows.

Twickerhun · 20/11/2017 19:50

I’m quite enjoying this just being dHs and my news for now with only one other person knowing. Last time I had to tell a few others early on which I would rather not have done. I had to tell my boss who told all the other directors and some managers - I was so pissed off.

JoJoSM2 · 20/11/2017 20:50

Twickerhun, I can’t believe your line manager went round telling people!

We aren’t going to do a big reveal or post anything on FB. We’ll probably get the Panorama results by 8/12 at the latest and might not make it a secret anymore and tell people as and when we see them/things come up. We’ve also got a struggling couple in the family so will probably text them then - hopefully they’ll be ok by Christmas with it.

Otters, are you planning a big reveal?

otters2017 · 20/11/2017 21:06

We’re not planning a big reveal and definitely nothing on social media. My parents already know and a few close friends as we needed the support having gone through a loss earlier in the year. We’ve been TTC for almost 2 years so it’s been a long journey. We were just thinking we could tell our friends and family with a cute little Christmas card. Definitely hold off telling work for as long as possible but I’m pretty sure quite a few of them suspect. Also have a good friend going through ivf currently and we don’t want to be insensitive.

otters2017 · 21/11/2017 11:41

Scan went well! Saw a good heartbeat and everything is measuring perfectly. Spot on for 6+6. We didn’t hear the heartbeat as she doesn’t use the Doppler and said it’s best to use experience to look at what she can see and she thinks it’s all perfect. Feel so relieved!
Good luck for your scan later twicker and remember for your blood test - when do you get the result?

JoJoSM2 · 21/11/2017 11:45

Otters, congrats! That sounds great! Has it made you a million times more excited? Which clinic are you with? Was your OH there?

And is my clinic the weird one for playing us the heartbeat and giving a cardiogram Grin

Twickerhun, looking forward to your happy news Wink

Goodluckjonathan76 · 21/11/2017 11:46

Great news Otters! We didn't hear heartbeat either nor did she measure it but she also said, from her experience, everything looked great.

Twickers, when is your scan? How long did they say you would have to wait for the results?

Remember, good luck for the blood test! Keeping everything crossed for you. x

Sorry, Twickers, I got confused with JoJo's scan on Friday and panorama test. Ignore me! Good luck!

otters2017 · 21/11/2017 12:09

Thanks all. Jojo we are with the lister. DH came along as well and we both teared up - it was very emotional! It does feel a lot more real now. I still don’t have any real symptoms but definitely less worried now. She did say the next few weeks are crucial as everything is growing but there’s nothing we can do now to change anything. It will either happen or it won’t. I’m still in a state of shock I think. Not sure how I’m going to concentrate for the rest of the day!

Twickerhun · 21/11/2017 12:35

Congrats Otters!!

JoJoSM2 · 21/11/2017 12:40

Otters, what a lovely reaction from DH! Mine just commented, ‘Fuck, it’s real!’ Grin Are you back at work? Good luck focusing on work Wink

I know what you mean about the next few weeks - there’s a bit of uncertainty but nothing that can be done if things stop working...

Goodluckjonathan76 · 21/11/2017 14:05

Ha, must be a standard response as my DH said something similar!!

Otters, did she really say that the next few weeks are critical? I sort of thought we were out of the woods after the 7 week scan if they detected a heartbeat. I read something that the risk of miscarriage drops to 5%. Was she being overly cautious do you think?

OP posts:
JoJoSM2 · 21/11/2017 14:17

Goodluck, I’ve also heard about that 5%. However, I’ve also had a look at the stats from our clinics (Lister, CRGH and Zita West) and it doesn’t seem as good. I compared clinical pregnancy rates (so heartbeat detected) and live births and the drop off rate seems a fair bit more than the 5% in the general population.

However, it’s been going well for us and I don’t think anyone has had any negative symptoms so we’ll probably be just fine.
