4 high quality embryos at day 3 - what should I expect at day 5?

Goodluckjonathan76 · 11/10/2017 19:45

Mid way through our first cycle of IVF. They retrieved 6 eggs and 4 fertilised. The embryologist called me on day 3 and said all 4 embryos were high quality (at least 10 cells and minimal fragmentation) and so they could keep them until day 5 or 6. I am due an update tomorrow am and probably ET tomorrow afternoon or Friday (day 5 or 6) and just trying to set my expectations for the news tomorrow. How many usually die between day 3 and 5? If we do have at least one left, what are my chances of it sticking? I've gotten so pessimistic that I've sort of ruled out it working. Should I assume it's not doing to work or should I be more hopeful?

Remember everything still crossed for you. It’s still early.
Otters, I’m feeling nervous. I can’t work out if my symptoms are the drugs, nerves or pregnancy!!

JoJoSM2 · 16/11/2017 11:19

Remember, I hope you get that squinter soon!

Goodluck, have you got an appointment with a midwife yet? Or do you need to wait to hear from them?

Twicker, just a few days till your scan too - are you feeling quite confident alongside the nerves or mostly just nervous?

Otters, the dream sounds cool - a way of your body telling you something :)

Our scan is on Friday week- arms and legs and a pretty human shape should be visible by then :)

Twickerhun · 16/11/2017 11:25

I filled in the online form for a midwife referral on Tuesday and I’ve not heard anything back. My doctors surgery reception aren’t helpful. How long would you wait before trying to chase or fill in the form again? I really want to get my first appt booked in as I’m feeling quite nervous after that first scan.

Twickerhun · 16/11/2017 11:27

Jojo I feel so nauseous / light headed that I sort of feel confident but feel too crap to feel good - if that makes sense? I certainly feel pregnant but with the drugs and the nerves and sleeplessness with my one year old, its hard to know what’s the cause of what!!

Arms and legs sound good- it’s amazing how quickly they stop being a blob and become a mini person!!

Goodluckjonathan76 · 16/11/2017 11:34

JoJo, I haven't heard back yet but they said I should get a letter within a week so will wait to see. My friend who went to the same hospital said that they do the harmony test at 12 weeks so we will have it done twice! She also said how dreadful the wait for the results is. Not looking forward to that at all.

I am super excited about the scan though. Development is so rapid in the first 12 weeks. My boobs are getting bigger by the day!

JoJo and Twicker, what dates are you scans? I am booked in for the harmony test on 5th December when I will be 10 weeks 3 days.

JoJoSM2 · 16/11/2017 11:44

I’m going on 24/11 - I’ll be 9 weeks exactly.

Goodluck, you’re so lucky with your hospital and it sounds great to get the Harmony done. Are you still definitely going to do the private one or just have a reassurance scan instead?
It’s been over a week since the GP referred me but I haven’t heard back.

Twickerhun · 16/11/2017 12:15

I’ve only got the private scan next Tuesday booked, nothing further. Waiting on midwife referral for 12 wk scan

otters2017 · 16/11/2017 12:30

remember hopefully it's just too early. Give it a few days and test again. Do you have any symptoms ?

twicker I've just filled in the self referral form and got a confirmation email saying I will be contacted in the next 7 days

jojo not long for your scan! Arms abs legs sound good. It is amazing how quick it develops in the first trimester

I don't know if I will get a harmony test on nhs - anyone know the criteria or how to find out? I'm wondering if I should book a private reassurance scan or harmony then have the nhs scan. No point having it twice if it's offered later on

Twickerhun · 16/11/2017 12:40

Otters last time I could choose to have further tests with the nhs or choose just the standard scan. I had to confirm with midwife before the 12 week scan was booked. I’m not sure exactly what the further tests were or if they were free (I think it was harmony and I think free) as we didn’t choose that option

otters2017 · 16/11/2017 12:48

Thanks twicker maybe I'll just wait to hear back from midwife and ask her then. Should be within the next 7 days. I'm guessing I can book a private scan quite quickly.

Rememberallball · 16/11/2017 13:56

Hi Otters, apart from being really tired and sore breasts with erect nipples (when 1 is always inverted) I’m normal - though I did feel nauseous yesterday morning and had the same gripey stomach pains I had in Cyprus the day after the transfer.

I’m trying not to look for symptoms as I think you can imagine them real!!

JoJoSM2 · 16/11/2017 16:16

PS Twicker, I’ll wait till after the next scan. If all is good, I’ll ask the gp to chase the midwives. I know it can be dire in some areas. My friend referred/was referred at around 7 weeks and didn’t see a midwife until 15 or so (in se London though so none of us live there).

JoJoSM2 · 16/11/2017 16:22

Twicker and Goodluck, when you were pregnant before, at what stage did you start wearing maternity clothes?

Twickerhun · 16/11/2017 17:05

Jojo I was quite early into jeans as the waist band hurt - maybe 16 weeks? I found I had to limit my wardrobe from 10 weeks though due to bloating and massive boobs which meant that some clothes looked rubbish early on. It depends slightly on lots of factors including what clothes styles you normally wear. I got a maternity bra from really early and got refitted each trimester.

Goodluckjonathan76 · 16/11/2017 17:14

JoJo, from memory, I started feeling porky almost immediately with DS2. I definitely noticed a change in my body (fatter) very early whereas I haven't this time (apart from my boobs which is very welcome). I think that at 3 months I started wearing clothes a size up or looser clothing and by 4/5 months I started to wear proper maternity wear.

I am also now remembering that in both my other pregnancies there was a long wait in getting the referral to the hospital for the 12 week scan and the scan date was after the optimum period for the nuchal fold test which is why I went private. Bet it's the same this time or even worse as I only self referred yesterday at nearly 8 weeks so means getting an appointment in the next 4-5 weeks.

JoJo, Twickers, I am now wondering whether to book a 9 week reassurance scan or whether to just wait until 10 weeks for the harmony test. Harmony test seems like ages away.

JoJo, sorry, think I've asked this before. Are you doing the panorama at the Birth Centre at exactly 9 weeks?

OP posts:
JoJoSM2 · 16/11/2017 17:24

Yep, Goodluck. Panorama at the Birth Company in Harley Street at 9 weeks exactly. I doubt there will be much offered at my local hospitals (choice of St Helier or Epsom I think).

It’s quite good to know about maternity wear. Sounds like we won’t need stuff till the spring-summer Collection comes out Wink

Goodluckjonathan76 · 16/11/2017 17:39

JoJo, do you know how long the Panorama test results take to come back? One of the reasons that is putting me off is that I read it can take 2 weeks to come back. Harmony is quicker I think as they don't have to be sent to the US. On the other hand, a week does make a difference. Really want to do the test as soon as possible.

OP posts:
Rememberallball · 16/11/2017 20:31

JoJo, having done some of my training at both those hospitals I’d try for St Helier’s id possible - they have a higher level paediatric/neonatal unit service than Epsom and are both the same trust.

Where we are we have the choice of St Peters Cgertsey (where I am seen by the rheumatology team and where I had weight loss surgery 5 years ago so have current, active medical notes) or Kingston which is easier to get to by public transport for my non driving DH and which would probably be our first choice!!

Twickerhun · 16/11/2017 20:35

My first Labour was increadibly short, less than 3 hours of active labour. He was crowning before we reached the hospital (I couldn’t sit in the car seat as his head was too low; I laid across the back seat threatening to kill people). I would always choose a close hospital to get too now. Whilst labour can take hours Or days it can also be surprisingly quick....

JoJoSM2 · 17/11/2017 10:17

Goodluck, the Panorama test do take longer but it can be done sooner so the results are ready at about the same time.

Twicker, that’s a very short labour, isn’t it? How far are you from the nearest hospital? Are you considering home birth?

Remember, thank you for the info :) Are you a dr? I thought St Helier might be better equipped. But it’s soo off putting... DH calls it the Big Incinerator Grin

I haven’t heard from the midwives yet. But I just got a letter inviting me for the 12 week scan next week Hmm At least there’s a phone number to ring there.

otters2017 · 17/11/2017 13:52

jojo are you having 2 scans next week then? Also you’re not 12 weeks yet! Probably best to ring them

twicker that sounds like a very short labour! Are you hoping for the same again?

I’m waiting to hear from midwife as I only completed the self referral yesterday.* Still debating about whether to book harmony or just wait for nhs scan. It does seem like a long gap from 7w to 12/13w so would like something in between. Still having zero symptoms so just enjoying it for the moment.*

Twickerhun · 17/11/2017 16:36

Remember how are you today?

Yep it was a short labour. Fortunately I’m only 15 mins from the hospital. I wouldn’t be allowed a home birth due to existing health complications. :(

Rememberallball · 17/11/2017 18:11

Hi ladies.

JoJo, no I was a paediatric nurse - trained at Kingston Uni & St George’s Hospital medical school so went to a wide variety of hospitals. The NICU at St Heliers is amazing - I spent 3 months working there. My 24 year old step daughter was also born there!!

Twickerhun, I’m good - DH says I’m looking ‘boobalicious’ today to go with them being painful and erect nipples!! Still bfn on ic & FRER!!
