Thanks footy really hope that I ovulated late. Counting down the hours till Friday when I can get my blood test. Will then be waiting anxiously all day before I can phone for result. My thermometer arrived today. Should I start checking my temp from now so I have an idea ? When do you take your temp? I don't have any other signs so not looking good for ovulation but I'll hang on to my sliver of hope.

SummerHopin · 26/04/2017 22:54

Hang on to that hope otters I had no signs at all!!
Let us know how the test goes. It's said today you can ovulate with a score of 19and above which I didn't know before.

Footy1 · 27/04/2017 12:01

Otters I always take temp as soon as I wake up before I get out of bed. I keep it by my bedside so I don't forget. You can't speak or dtd before though!!

On average my temps are-

Before ovulation 36.0-36.40
After ovulation 36.50-36.80

Kt* does a high mean u are about to ovulate?

Footy - according to clearblue high means high fertility as it's detected a rise in oestrogen. They say that this occurs before the rise in LH surge (the sign of ovulation) and you should dtd. Unfortunately I seem to be rubbishing this with 17 days high last month and starting on high on day 6 this month so still playing a guessing game. Could have just missed it being recognised with the timing issue but im not convinced.

Day 14 today (another high 😑). If I dare to symptom spot, I was hopeful of ovulation signs yesterday as I had really weird lower back pain and feeling quite bloated. Today I've also had loads of cm (although not really egg white), was quite weird as I actually thought I'd started AF!

Told husband he's buying the next box of these bloody sticks if I have to use another 20 this month!

otters2017 · 27/04/2017 20:05

footy thanks for the advice. Will start temping tomorrow then.

Feeling nervous and excited about blood test tomorrow. Really really hope it shows ovulation. Still so many unknowns but actually ovulating will be a step in the right direction.

ktmp keep dtd I guess and hope you catch that egg! The sticks are really expensive aren't they? I'm switching to IC opk which arrived today. Not sure if I'll get on with reading lines but will try.

sk1pper · 27/04/2017 20:25

Hello, could I join you lovely ladies on here? Im in a pretty weird situation, was diagnosed with unexplained infertility but they've put me on Clomid even though I ovulate regularly. It's something they try try now before IVF apparently. I start my first course on Tuesday, half a table daily from CD 2-6.

Ktmp · 27/04/2017 20:33

Doing EOD at the moment otters, god help the husband if I ever do see a peak! I've still got some IC so may double up the next few days to see if there's any difference.

Hi Sk1pper! Good to know they allow Clomid even if you do ovulate. I'm not convinced I don't but worried taking the Clomid may have adverse effects. How long have you been ttc?

otters2017 · 28/04/2017 08:15

Hi sk1pper hope the clomid works for you. Are you already on a waiting list for ivf?

ktmp good luck with dtd! I can't remember if you said - do you have pcos ? I heard that the clear blue can be inaccurate if you have pcos. You just get persistent highs.

sk1pper · 28/04/2017 08:46

I'm not on the waiting list yet, I have 3 months of Clomid and then another checkup - so maybe after then. I've been trying for around 20 months. What about you both?

KP86 · 28/04/2017 11:39

Had my internal scan this morning, I have cysts on my ovaries. Not really surprising but IIRC I didn't have the cysts when we were last TTC, just the other associated PCOS hormone issues etc.

Next step is to go back to GP for a referral to NHS fertility clinic. Hopefully that won't take too long, I have been impressed with wait times so far, only five or six weeks to get the internal scan.

Hope you're all feeling ok.

Footy1 · 28/04/2017 12:43

Skipper- been ttc for a year now. Have 2 boys with no fertility issues before. Came off pill over a year ago and had irregular cycles. I'm not eligible for ivf on NHS as have had babies. Also I'm 39 so not an option now.
Hope clomid works for u.

Kp sorry that your scan revealed cysts. Are they giving u metformin?

Hope bloods went ok otters.

aF should arrive by Monday I reckon as stop the pills sat. Then I'm back in the game..

I see a few of you have been put on metformin, who can tell me more about it? Has it helped? What were your symptoms that made the doctor prescribe it to you? Do you take in conjunction with Clomid?

KP86 · 28/04/2017 12:51

X-post with you there, Footy.

No mention yet but I am going to ask GP at next follow up visit.

otters2017 · 28/04/2017 13:27

sk1pper this is cycle 16. My ovarian reserve is very low - only a few eggs left so time is really running out. I'm trying 3 cycles of clomid then ivf but not sure how long it will take for referral on nhs. May have to self fund due to time issue.

kp hope you get referred quickly and have treatment.

I'm also interested about metformin. I think it helps if you have pcos but not if you don't.

Waiting for the afternoon so I can call about my blood results. Really hope it's ok. The day seems to be dragging!

SummerHopin · 28/04/2017 14:08

I wrote this on another thread a while back re. Metformin if this helps.....

Metformin regulates insulin. (my attempt at putting this in a nutshell - here goes) You need to think of your hormones as being on levels of a pyramid - the 'reproductive' level contains FSH, LH, Prog and Estr. This level is governed by the hormone insulin - which sits at the next level up. If you have insulin resistance it takes more insulin to regulate blood sugar so there is less leftover to help control the lower level hormones. Metformin increases your insulin sensitivity - i.e. you need less insulin to control your sugars so more is leftover to be used to govern your lower level hormones. This is why a low sugar diet can be helpful, because you are effectively saving your insulin tokens for helping your other hormones out!
There is another level above insulin which is your prolactin etc which has an effect on insulin, which is why you also have a test to make sure your prolactin is working ok as if this isnt right it will have a knock on effect to all levels beneath it i.e. both insulin and all the other hormones.

Does that make sense?

SummerHopin · 28/04/2017 14:10

Metformin is used for PCOS because many women who have PCOS also have insulin resistance - and is why they can also struggle with their weight.

For me, I wasnt overweight, but Metformin helped me lose a stone and brought back semi regular cycles and natural AF. It therefore worked in the sense that it helped my body goven its own reproductive hormones to get them back into shape. The clomid then gave me the kick start to my ovaries to get ovulating.

otters2017 · 28/04/2017 14:54

Thanks that's really helpful. Wonder if I can get some metformin if this cycle doesn't work! Desperately counting down the minutes till I can ring for my blood results.

KP86 · 28/04/2017 15:23

Agreed, very useful. Thanks.

otters2017 · 28/04/2017 15:41

So got my progesterone result back. It's CD25 today and it's 21. It was 15 on CD21. It's a bit better but not much so not sure what to make of it. Just keep hoping and wait and see I guess.

Footy1 · 28/04/2017 17:19

Someone on a different thread got her bfp with 20 as a result so fingers crossed otters. My gp told me over 15 was a def ovulation so you did ovulate.
Thanks summer, great explanation.

otters2017 · 28/04/2017 17:24

I really hope so as been googling like mad and some say should be >50!!! There is also the worry that it's not high enough to sustain pregnancy. So frustrating. Wish my body would cooperate. Will have to try not to drive myself crazy!
Anyone have nice plans for the long weekend?

Ktmp · 28/04/2017 17:42

Hi otters, I haven't been told I have pcos although everything I've read suggests that. Not really sure how they diagnose but given me experience of medical input so far I wouldn't be surprised.

otters2017 · 28/04/2017 17:54

ktmp I think it's based on hormone profiles so blood tests and if you have cysts or not but you don't need cysts to have pcos. I wonder if I have pcos but had lots of tests and nothing has been mentioned.

Ktmp · 28/04/2017 18:27

Sounds the same as me then otters. The bloods I've had have never been mentioned as a concern and I don't have any cysts (had an ultrasound and hsg). There's been one heading on a letter that simply said 'primary couple subfertility' but that's it.

Footy1 · 28/04/2017 18:56

I was borderline on my results for pcos but not have had any cysts. They were very reluctant to prescribe anything until I begged to try metformin myself. It hasn't helped me ovulate this cycle. All that happened was I felt so so sick. Took a month for body to get use to it.
