Hi ladies,

I need some help and advice!

I was on the summer ttc bus and I'm on cycle 12 now but I have just had some doctors blood tests back and my prog test 'confirmed anovulatory cycle' and prolactin 'discuss with doctor'

Has anyone had this and what does it mean? I'm going to doctor tomorrow for the 'discussion' but I want to be a bit more prepared if I can!!

Thanks,
Hannah

loopylou1984 · 22/07/2015 20:02

Hi it'sme

Well anovulatory means your progesterone levels indicate that you did not ovulate. This could have been a one off or could mean you do not ovulate on your own - they will probably repeat it.
I'm not sure about the prolactin though, sorry, have you asked anywhere else?

Chops - it's below for me as I flip the threads!

Aussie - bless your confusion! How are you feeling now? Xx

OP posts:
chopsface · 22/07/2015 20:16

itsme, what sammy said. Your progesterone result probably read less than 30 which meant you didn't ovulate. They will have to take bloods during another cycle to make sure it's not a one off, apparently you may not ov at least once a year. I know prolactin is important to fertility but I don't know why sorry :-( If you are not ovulating there are things the doctor can try, have you heard of the drug clomid? This can be prescribed to try and stimulate ovulation. There are other tests you will probably get to try and see the whole picture of your fertility issues, has your dp been referred for a sperm test too? Wish you luck speaking with your GP. Anything else just ask and we'll try to help.

loopylou1984 · 22/07/2015 21:17

Itsme - Having had a quick google it looks like a high prolactin result could mean under active thyroid.... It's possibly related to this which if so can also be controlled with medication. I am only speculating, but thought I'd write it on here as I know if I was you id want to be clued up for tomorrow's appointment.

Will you come back and let us know? Xx

Hi,

I was on the original thread not too long ago. I got my natural bfp after my first IVF consultation.
I said I'd keep you all updated - little baby boy Rogue is here doing very well.

I still continue to read this thread, Victoria how amazing that you got your bfp, how many weeks now?

And of course, Shellster! I have been following your story for a while - I am ecstatic for you. Here's to a happy healthy 9 months!!!

Ruby how are you and the twins doing?

Keep going ladies you are all doing great Flowers

loopylou1984 · 23/07/2015 06:05

Congratulations Rogue Smile

Hi rogue I remember you as you were the lady to direct me to this thread from somewhere else! Congratulations on baby rogue! I'm 19+3 today :-)

glasgowlass · 23/07/2015 11:52

Sorry to butt in on the thread Ladies. Long time lurker & had my fair share of infertlilty woes.

itsme high prolactin levels can inhibit FSH production causing you to not ovulate. I have a small prolactinoma (only diagnosed this year) & take a small level of medication & it's sorted me right out. I feel so much better for it & wonder if I was diagnosed sooner if I might have had an easier time concieving!?
I have PCOS though only have a few obvious symptoms (some excess hair, prone to spots). I was tested for CAH due to raised cortisol but that was negative. 12 months of clomid, 2 failed IUI (both due to OHSS) & was due to start IVF. Anyway after 8 years of trying had DS1 in '08 & after another 4 years trying had DS2 in '13. Both without medical help.
It's a long tough road you girls are on. It's never easy. Its damned frustrating & heartbreaking. Have hope though because if I can get pregnant then I'd like to think there is hope for everyone.
At almost 37 I'm done. I'm classed as an older mum but I don't care. I never thought I'd be me. I'd almost given up.
I really hope you all get your BFPs & congratulations to all who have.
I hope you all dont mind me intruding but just wanted to offer a wee bit of advice on the prolactin issue.
Flowers to you all. You are all amazing!

loopylou1984 · 23/07/2015 12:12

Thanks glasgowlass, and congratulations on your two miracles!

Fx that will be all of us soon Smile Xx

Itsme247 · 23/07/2015 16:48

Thanks glasgowlass! Just been to docs to discuss the prolactin thing and they've said to repeat the bloods next cycle and if it's still high they mentioned that prolactinoma could be a possibility.

I feel a lot better now, I've only been trying for 12 cycles and so the doctor was a bit reluctant to investigate but she was actually quite nice to me today!

glasgowlass · 23/07/2015 17:10

Fingers crossed sammylou

itsme I'm glad your doctor is being proactive. Hope you get to the bottom of it. Your prolactin levels will be at their highest when sleeping & for first few hours after waking so an early morning blood test might be best to ascertain true levels. As I mentioned I wish I'd been diagnosed sooner (had pretty rubbish care tbh) as I do think my journey might have been easier.
Sending you my best wishes.

chopsface · 23/07/2015 17:58

Congratulations on your two miracle babies Glasgow it must have been tough to keep going all those years. I'd given myself 3 years TTC and then I was giving up and accepting childlessness. Conceived 2.5 years aged 35. Now 19 weeks.

Glad you've got a good doctor itsme great to get a diagnosis so early on.

Shellster52 · 24/07/2015 05:30

Thanks for the congrats aussie. Doesn't feel real yet. I don't know if it's because I've been trying to conceive for so long and didn't think it would happen, or if it's because I'm scared of miscarriage and trying to protect myself mentally in preparation of one.

itsme, I've not got your issues so I haven't really done much research in that regard. I do know of quite a few people who had annovulatory cycles and they conceived really quickly once that was diagnosed and they were given medication to get them ovulating. So at least it's a positive step that a problem has been identified and there is something that can be rectified.

loopylou1984 · 24/07/2015 07:01

Morning everyone Smile

Shell - I understand your caution, I already know I'll be the same and I haven't been on nearly such a long journey as you.

I went back to work yesterday, and it was actually ok. I'm glad it's the weekend tomorrow though as I'm knackered! Lol.

STILL waiting for AF, it's been almost a week since I stopped the progesterone so thought it might have happened by now. Am going to request that if my day 3 scan looks normal that we do ET this cycle.... I don't want to wait until September! Not sure what my chances of persuading them are though?

Also we got our revised bill through yesterday and apparently freezing the embryos costs £1000 more than doing the transfer would have.... Does that seem right? Xx

OP posts:
chopsface · 24/07/2015 12:46

Just make sure you are well enough to have the transfer, if waiting increases the chances of success you must wait! I take it you still have to pay for a transfer too, how much?

I don't blame you for being cautious either shell when is your next blood test? Monday? I have my 20w scan then too. Let's hope it's a lucky day for both of us!

loopylou1984 · 24/07/2015 13:30

Another £1200 ish for the transfer :(.

Yeah I know, I'll do whatever they think is best medically. I just want AF to arrive so I know the plan... I'm in limbo again at the moment and I hate it! X

OP posts:
chopsface · 24/07/2015 19:23

Is the ££££ you paid for freezing for a length of time or indefinitely?

loopylou1984 · 24/07/2015 22:41

AF arrived SmileSmile

I don't actually know, I assume it's for a year....

Have a scan booked for Tuesday morning and by my calculations I think FET will be end Aug/1st Sep. Xx

OP posts:
Shellster52 · 26/07/2015 05:20

sammy, my clinic charges more for freezing than for the ET too. I had two embryos alive at my last IVF transfer and one of the reasons for transferring two was because I was going broke on my 11th IVF attempt and if the single transfer didn't work, I would have had to pay for freezing (which for me is a year, but I don't pay any less if I have them transferred the following cycle!). I would also have had to pay for FET which is about the same cost as yours. Ridiculous that FET costs so much when all they have to do is defrost the embryo and transfer it. They really are profiting from our desperation to be parents.

Will wait to hear how you go on Tuesday. Hope your 20 week scan goes well chops. I assume you are more relaxed now that you are passed the 12 week stage, and it's just exciting to get an inside glimpse. Yep, my blood test is Monday. So we'll all be reporting back here.
